Flashing stock Oreo with odin fails at SetupConnection - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I'm trying to reflash Oreo to my Verizon S8. I have downloaded the latest SM-G950U VZW Oreo 8.0.0 firmware using SamFirm. Latest Samsung USB drivers and Odin 3.13.1. However when I run Odin, it fails almost immediately with the output below. I have tried using an older version of Odin along with the modded 3.13.1 version found on XDA and it fails at the same spot. Have tried with all 3 USB ports (2.0 and 3.1) on my laptop and 2 different OEM usb cables and none of them fix it.

I'm having the same exact problem with my Note 8. Have you been able to solve this yet?

Yes. I had to use a different computer. Not sure why it mattered, but I used the latest version of Odin, same firmware files, OEM cable, latest samsung usb drivers, and android adb drivers. Didn't change anything besides the PC and it worked. Hopefully it solves your issue too, good luck.

Wanting to remove T-Mobile Bloatware from New Phone.. What to do?

I am used to rooting my older phones. Just got this Samsung Galaxy S8 today.
However it is loaded with bloatware from T-mobile. I really want to get rid of it..
Any links to how I can remove this, or add another ROM / Stock Firmware without all the bloatware.
Any advice helps.
Thanks again..
Flash the unlocked U1 firmware. Go to updato.com and search for G950U1. There's TMobile versions that have carrier settings but no bloat. There's tons of guides around so I'm not topping one of those out.
Same thing..
So I did flash firmware from the site you listed, found my T-Mobile firmware..
Still has T-Mobile bloatware and tons more of Samsung apps then before....
Which version would have 0 bloatware??? I just want a clean version with no T-Mobile crap.. =[
Did you wipe it afterwards? Did you flash the G950U1 or G950U firmware? Unlocked FW should have no carrier bloat, but will have removable Samsung apps...
Odin Flash, it will restart in Recovery and apply update. Watch for it to restart. Hold Bixby and Volume Up. Wait for the recovery screen to show up, chose Wipe Data/Reset. Then restart
You should be flashing this one: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=2FE5DAF5D55111E7A5F9FA163EE8F90B
Update & FW
I have downloaded SM-G950U1 XAA Firmware, however when I load it into Odin, It gives me 'Wrong Model' or it fails.
I had to download SM-G950U T-MOBILE Firmware, seemed to be the only one that would work for me. Yet still has all the apps, etc.
Im usually pretty tech savy with this stuff, but this is picking my brain. Not sure why its so difficult to have a 'lite' or 'debloated' version.

I downloaded the other Odin you had recommended. This is what I got, I did not use the Home.
Additional Note: The lady at T-Mobile store did the upgrade, so would it be because my Android version is more new than the one I am trying to flash? If so, how could I revert this?

Thanks for all the info :good: Btw Your thread is being moved to Q&A
But I am XM CCT user:good: It appears your U1 s8 is on the revision 3 bootloader
So you have to goto sam mobile and flash this firmware here https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/CCT/download/G950USQS3CRE2/220596
which is also bootloader 3 and flash in odin
Now sam mobile is horribly slow so it will take several hours to get it but once you get to this point hollar at me and i will help you out....

I tried another computer and it worked flawlessly. I was doing everything correctly with the correct binaries just that my Surface Pro 4 was not correctly executing where my old core i3 Samsung laptop (series 5) did the job. Both are on windows 10 don't know what the issue was.

Sbl error upload mode on s7 edge sm-935v

Hi i was trying to flash a new rom to my s7 edge so i downloaded what i thought was a good rom to use. However, when i did the flashing using Odin, it now boots directly to recovery, and when i click on the reboot system, it goes to a screen that says SBL ERROR UPLOAD MODE and that pretty much stays there. I am so confused and frustrated now because i just don't know what else to do. I can boot to the download mode, however, all the models i have tried(s7 edge sm-935v) do not get past the FAIL! SHA256 is invalid error. PLEASEE any help would be highly appreciable.

No matter what I do I cannot get Odin to move past SetupConnection. I have the Samsung drivers installed, I've restarted my computer and phone a million times, used different USB ports and cables, and every odin version from 3.12.3 to 3.13.3.
This is my log output:

Failing on setup connection will occur on any Odin version that you use.
Does your phone show up on PC ( using file explorer )?
Does it show up with a com port on Odin?
Apart from what you tried ( and other issues that people have had )
If you have smart switch/Kies install, un-install it.
USB cable i'm assuming is a data cable.
USB port try plugging into USB 2 port.
Plug phone directly into PC not any hubs.
Use latest Samsung USB drivers.
Run Odin in administrator mode.
Boot into download mode then reboot back into download mode again.
Maybe turn off any anti-virus programs.
Try a different PC.
Only a few suggestion i can think off at the monent as failing as setup connection is a connection issue between phone and PC not Odin itself.

Yes it shows up, and yes it shows up with a com port. No smart switch/Kies. Tried multiple USB ports, both USB 2 and 3. Have latest drivers, ran in admin mode, booted and rebooted. Only thing I haven't tried is a different computer. Though that would still beg the question of what is wrong with my desktop with regards to Odin?

If you can try another computer. I have seen a few issues about connection issues. Some of the common fixes mention in previous post others have had to use a different pc. As to why I am not sure.
