Notes on moving from Xiaomi.eu MIUI on Android 8.1 to Android 9 - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have recently upgraded from Xiaomi.eu's 8.11.8 build (Android 8.1) to their 8.12.20 (Android 9) and thought I would let the community know how things are going:
What works well
1. The UI performance is noticably better with the Android 9 build than it was with any of the Android 8.1 builds. Swiping between homescreens is more fluid and the full screen gesture animations are faster and have far less lag.
2. There were no significant issues in the upgrade process - I simply dirty flashed 8.12.20 over the top of 8.11.8. See below for more details.
Resolved issues after upgrade
1. After flashing, I had to re-apply Magisk 18
2. My previous Magisk Module to enable the Camera2 API did not work with Android 9. I removed the old patch and installed this one. This module allows the use of the Pixel camera, as discussed below.
3. I upgraded the Pixel Camera to the latest MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova_TlnNeun_1.2_Final Camera apk, but this was too unstable. I have since downgraded back to MGC_5.3.015_B-S-G-based_V1.0.15_final_fix_TInNeun which works well. The relevant Pixel APKs can be found here.
4. I use the Google Clock, rather than Xiaomi's, and found that I had to unlock the phone before accepting an alarm. I resolved this by going into Settings / Installed Apps / Clock and giving it the Show On Lockscreen privilege.
All in all, I am now very happy with the upgrade to Android 9. The performance, in particular, has been an unexpected bonus! I think the current build is more than good enough to upgrade to, so if you are still hesitating I would recommend you upgrade.

Do you need update version of TWRP or you can flash pie on old version from Oreo?

[Magisk][Module] Debloat & Optimize MIUI Global Stable

Objective
The aim of this MOD is to bring all the optimizations brought by MIUI EU, EPIC and Pro ROMs to the MIUI Global Stable version systemlessly.
Why
The customized versions of the MIUI ROMs like EU, EPIC or Pro bring different modifications and optimizations of the MIUI ROM.
Most of them update the Beta\Stable Chinese firmware releases (EPIC released for global). I'm more fond of Global Stable version due the customization MIUI offers OOTB to India users. But I also don't like the fact that I have to download whole ROM every time whenever there is new release and the same can be simply done via Magisk without actually touching your phone in permanent way. This saves lots if trouble related to OTA and DM-variety etc.
What this MOD offers
Debloated lof of Unwanted apps

Please read the OP,
It clearly says Global stable.
Why does this change the round icons from the Limitless theme to the ugly square shaped ones?
I have removed some features to avoid bootloop on miui 9.2 stable.
Module updated in repo.
I'm getting around 4-5 hours SOT and 20 hours standby on stock kernel and debloat.
Is it possible to make one for Mi 6(sagit) I installed this to Mi6 and its working, but I would be more calm if I know its made for Mi6, thanks. Great work by the way

I'm already using it, but I realized it says Mi5 today. So if you ever find the time to "tweak" it for Mi 6 we will appreciate it.
Edit: for example the led notification is only white, ppl at the miui forum said it can be multicolor but is more likely software limited. Another
Also missing background blurr to Multitasking window, Advanced Power Menu... just saying. Thanks again.

Module name doesn't make any difference, all it does for now it remove some background apps and put some build.prop to enhance. should work as it is.
camera2api
I read on github you encountered the upside down front camera when enabling camera2api. You can fix this by editing an XML file. See this post:

Halo
Is there a list of the removed apps? I use more than one app from Google and I would like to be sure I don't mess anything up...
Thank you for your time

Hi Man, very good module, i like it
I have a small feature request: I really like the rounded corners of the EpicROM for MI5, but cannot find any ressource what so ever to actiate it. And no i dont mean to install an app that draws over the screen. I mean a system-level tweak. On lates Epic-Rom this looks so neat
Can you implement this?

xXx System Tweaks
I added several tweaks on different levels to make the rom faster and snappy.
These tweaks also improve multitasking and maintain the system to be constantly fast.
6/8 GB RAM can hold a lot apps and services in the background. If you like apps to popup in virtual no time I recommend you to not close them when you change to another app but just put them to the background. Also, when speed is more important to you than window animations you can reduce the 3 Animation scale values in the developer options.
There are also several more features under the hood like:
Native Call Recording
WiFi channel bonding for the 2.4GHz frequency
ART Optimization
Detaching of modded apps
Dirty flash Survival mode for AKT, Substratum, Fonts and system media
SU & BusyBox Leftover Cleanup
Root support for Tasker
LMK Tweaks to use all RAM down to about 700MB left
some more…
Debloating
The rom is light debloated already and removes only apps which could be downloaded anytime later from Google Playstore
I also included a flash option to select Extreme Debloating. This will debloat the rom down close to a core Android level. You need to enable this option to take advantage of it.
The advantage is even more speed and battery saving as less unused apps and services are running or even more free RAM to hold your favorite apps in background.
The downside is that you might miss certain apps or functionality but definitely nothing what will make your android unstable.

After so many people asking for a 5T version of my xXx NoLimits Rom I was in a good mood yesterday and decided to provide a special Eastern Present.
From now on I will continue to support the 5T side by side with the OP5, but I'm not planning to maintain an extra 5T thread.
So I already fully integrated the 5T into my OP5 thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...xxx-nolimits-1-1-speed-ram-optimized-t3627121
You will find respective downloads in the download section on the first page side by side with the OP5 downloads and Infos.
As the device behaves more or less identical, I believe everything could be handled in the same OP5 thread. This will reduce my effort as I don't have to maintain an additional thread.
Enjoy the Rom

i have to delete that statement. This was true some month ago. Currently, I believe there us no workaround to get slow-motion working with the gcam. But the OOS Camera can do it.

from OB5 I have bootloop in TWRP with a clean flash:
-Wipe cache, system and data,
-Install xXx
-Reboot in system and I have a bootloop in TWRP
I tried both TWRP, blu_spark and codeworkx.
I tried after the reboot in TWRP to wipe again cache and data (no format data) but it didn't work.
Does anyone happen to know if we will need to wipe userdata if you we flash this and then want to go back to a stable OOS build?

[FIX][GSI][TWRP] Mi Max 3 ROMs

What is this topic about?
I've spent quite some time writing fixes for GSIs to work properly on our Mi Max 3.
As part of that, we now have a list of easily flashable fully working Mi Max 3 ROMs to pick from.
This topic will be used to keep track of all fully working ROMs and of course to host the latest set of GSI patches / flash templates.
Available ROMs:
These have been tested and confirmed fully working (sans ROM-specific bugs).
AOSiP
Build date: 2019-05-14
Patch date: 2019-05-17
Flashing guide:
Unlock your device's bootloader.
Flash nijel8's modded TWRP recovery.
Pick and download one of the available ROMs.
Reboot into TWRP recovery and flash your ROM of choice.
Go into TWRP's wipe menu and "factory reset" your device (aka. slide the bar).
Flash Gapps (Opengapps / Bitgapps) if your ROM of choice requires / you want it.
Reboot your phone and set it up to your liking.
How can I get my ROM of choice listed here?
Download the TWRP package template from here!
Grab a GSI of your choice and unpack the system image (if it is compressed).
Rename the unpacked system image to system.img and place it inside the system folder inside the template zip file.
Rename the resulting zip file accordingly, flash it, test it, and after you've confirmed everything's working fine, upload and share it.
How do I enable DT2W (double-tap to wake)?
Create a file named "enable_dt2w" (without the quotes) in your device's internal storage.
Reboot your device.

Stuck how? If you have "unlock" trouble, as in, your PIN won't let you in, use the "Remove lockscreen" option inside TWRP to remove your previous lockscreen data.

Make sure the GSI you picked supports Pie vendors.
Not every GSI does... and the ones that are still stuck on Oreo vendors are... troublesome, to say the least.

The last time I had problems in booting the GSI roms I did the following:
1- I reinstalled the latest global version of Miui Oreo via miflash (Beware of ARB)
2- Logged in the Mi account, enabled the USB debugging and installation by ADB settings to install the TWRP
3- I installed TWRP (nijel8's modded), formatted the data and then installed xiaomi.eu
4- I configured the device and made a backup of xiaomi.eu
5- As I already had the files, I installed AOSIP, without deleting the system, just cleaning the data of xiaomi.eu
6- After the boot, I installed the gapps and magisk.
I never had any problems installing GSI's on my device.
When I was in Miui Oreo, I tested some roms that only boot the Oreo vendor (Bootleggers, PixelDust among others), but I think with the Oreo vendor they spend a little more battery life.
(hope this helps you)
guys, i want to try this but not trigger arb, with .eu or aosp, pixel experience etc.. i'll trigger it?

So if i install this rom https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-10-0-10-1-10-2-stable-release.47170/ i'm ok and without arb? I get confused because on the image they say mi max 3 has arb, if they mean the official 10.2 has arb, why even put the image in the .eu version? It just confuses people.
So i go with this rom reach setup screen, recovery and install the gsi rom?

Try the xiaomi.eu versions from last month based on installing AOSiP. Today I tried with the versions of this month and did not boot.
I am having the exact same issue. I followed the guide and installed the latest xiaomi.eu 9.3.7 beta and boot no problem then i flash gsi .img and it gets stuck at MI Logo and wont go any further. I have tried latest xiaomi.eu beta, stable, last months, month before that. All xiaomi.eu boot fine without issue but as soon as I flash any gsi .img it gets stuck at MI Logo screen? Am I doing something wrong?
Also the gsi i am using is latest pixel experience arm64 A only.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same. I tried 3 different GSI roms and kept being stuck on the mi logo... :'(
only aosp gsi works, still getting android.process.media and bluetooth crashes
Edit: instead of com.android.media it was android.process.media
I tried installing Descendant_TwoDotOne. It stuck on the mi logo when pairing it with xiaomi.eu 9.3.7 & 9.3.1. It works perfectly when paired with xiaomi.eu 9.2.21 (or earlier version should work). I guess there may be some changes made to the 9.3 version vendor content leading to this problem.

I had the same problem after installing magisk on beta 1. the phone began restarting itself until it couldnt boot to desktop. i searched then but nobody was reporting the same issue so i gave up and reinstalled pie.
no issues here, i had to flash both booth partitions manually. been running beautiful
I figured out the problem. İf you use system in English everything perfect. For me changing system language to Turkish starts Bootloop when restarting.

Camera 2 API for Xperia Z3

Hello all!
Ultimately I would like to install a version of the GCAM on my Xperia Z3, cos the picture quality is just so much better than anything I know from stock.
However I'm already failing at step 1 - Getting the Camera 2 API enabled on my phone. There are some Magisk Modules and other patches floating around which I tried - No luck.
I also tried editing the build.prop file and set persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 - No luck
I use the Camera2 Probe App to check if the API is enabled but alas it always shows "Hardware Support Level - Legacy" only.
I'm currently running AOSP Extended (Android 9). Also tried with Carbon ROM and some other custom roms, all with the same, negative result.
Is there any limitation here that I'm not seeing - Does anybody know of a possibility of enabling this API on the Xperia Z3?
Ok, let me try a different approach - The Z3 was launched in 2015, so it's a pretty old phone.
Question1: Is the Camera2 API a pure software API, or does the underlying camera hardware also have a role to play here?
Question2: Is the API part of the ROM, or is it part of some Google framework / GAPPS? If it is part of the GAPPS, which part?
I'm curious because I tried several Android 8 and 9 custom ROMS, installed several versions of GAPPS, fiddled with the build.prop file and none of these measures enabled the Camera2 API on this device.
