Warning: Banggood sold fake X821 4/64 GB in oct./nov. 2018 -> NO LTE band 20 !!! - LeEco Le Max 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

This is a warning to all buyers of the Le Max 2 X821 sold by banggood in october / november 2018 with 4/64 GB!
They sold some sort of patchwork phone with bodies of X821 / X820 with suspectful having internals of X829.
Reason:
- Le Eco aka LeTV never build an X820/X821 (for the chinese or indian market) with 4/64 GB - the only model having this combination was the X829 for US
- LTE band 20 is not possible to connect (tested with several SIM cards)
- LTE band 20 cannot be activated (tested several firmwares)
Please test your device and report please!
Suggested app for testing: "Network Signal Guru" from playstore.
1. Root device
2. Start app
3. Grant root privileges to app
4. Tap three-dot-menu (upper right)
5. Select "Lock bands"
6. Select "LTE"
7. App shows usable bands
--> Please post results
Thanks!

I think I bought one of them.. I thought something was weird with the device model and firmware.. Well.. at least it works in my network.. Might get rid of it though as it has the camera problem..

I bought one of those too.
how to do the testing for the actual usable bands to be sure?

Please root device and install the App "Network Signal Guru" from playstore.
Start this app, grant root priviliges. Then tap upper right three-dot-menu.
Then select "Lock bands", then "LTE". After this the app will show the usable bands. Please post result here (screenshot). Thanks.
I got the following bands for my "X821": 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12 and 17 (20 is missing).
For comparison: On my bq M5 I got all bands usable in germany: 1,3,7 and 20 (800 MHz)

Are you referring to this: https://www.banggood.com/LeTV-LeEco...8.html?rmmds=search&ID=46149&cur_warehouse=CN ?
But if you scroll down to specs you'll see this:
4G: FDD-LTE: B1(2100)/B3(1800)/B7(2600)
TDD-LTE: B38(2600)/B39(1900)/B40(2300)/B41(2500)
I do not see B20 listed there.
Plus, Max 2 for $130 with 4/64 GB?
That should be a raised red flag, considering the fact that a year ago *real* X821 3/32 GB was selling for $180-190.
Can you return it? I would.

Yes, I am referring to this. Until yesterday evening B20 was listed there. As I am new here to xda I cannot post screenshots... sorry

Thank you for your warning. :fingers-crossed: I was about to buy this at banggood (same link) and immediatly refrained after seeing your post.

after checking:
1. there is no LTE band 20 in this phone (and yes, when I ordered the phone it had band 20 in the product specs, now removed)
2. only one sim slot is working!!!! NO DUAL SIM!!
3. the box is fake, including the sticker with a production date of 07/2018
4. the charger is only 2A charger compared to the original 3A charger of the X820/X821 I have
the rest of the phone specs are comparable to my other X821, the roms work. it just seems the screen is slightly different in quality. The phone is definitely fake, possibly from the same factory than the original.

I have noticed that charger is not original, but other than that it looks legit.
Both sim slots work and i have 4g , probably my provider has other 4g frequencies too, i use 3g for battery anyways.

The focus problem. Clicking noise while is trying to focus and many times won't focus properly. Hit and miss. That's in stock ROM. Any other custom ROM is worse

I seem to have luck. Camera is working perfect on my device. But I will check dual-SIM, because other user wrote, on his Le Max 2 it does not work.

I would not call it fake if it is really x829 instead of x821, it is still better than refurbished or real fake. As i remember x829 was more expensive than x820/821, cdla earphones could not be the only reason.
Charger is leeco but i do not know for which model it was for with 1A, charger for my old x600 was 2A.

No earphones included here! I've two of these fake devices with band 20 missing. Band 20 is still an important band in Germany. There is a reason why different models exist. Calling something fake is absolutely legit in this case if someone (banggood) flashes the firmware to pretend it's another device and sells without pointing to this circumstance. I will even go that far to call it a fraud.

Well, I have bought my phone from banggood during that period (rose gold, as it was the only colour available), and two SIM cards work fine in this model, have installed LineageOS 15.1 and it works beautifully and it supports fix for camera focus (pictures are really nice). I have not been able to check B20 yet, though - but I have trusted specifications and I may confirm, that it was listed there, as otherwise I wouldn't have bought this phone. So, it is another example how tough it is to trust the Chinese merchants...
Network Signal Guru lists following available LTE bands on my phone: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12 and B17. Indeed, B20 is missing and what about B38?
Frankly, am very confused - why does Network Signal Guru not list B26, B38, B39, B40 and B41 (sure, they are not used in EU at the moment but shouldn't it be reported by NSG)?
There is a site, which I have relied on - https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-leeco-le-max-2 - and it is supposed to show, which phone supports this or that. Now, I am really confused... Sure, that phone is cheap and runs nicely - but nobody likes being lied to.

About Dual Sim: the preloaded rom allows data only in the first slot
Flashing any other rom from XDA solves that issue.
After checking band 20 it turns out the phone does not have it.
We have been fooled by BangGood or is it rather BangBad?

Dear Yerry,
I have LTE access almost everywhere in Poland, but only LTE bands B3, B7 and B8. I am not able to verify, whether there are areas where only B20 is available - and whether my phone would support it. But you cannot, alas, presume that if you have good LTE reception - it means, that B20 is there. There is a nice utility, 'LTE Discovery' which does not require root to report, which LTE band the phone uses at the moment. You may then have a look at its log, and verify which LTE bands were available - you can check there, if your phone has ever switched to B20. Mine has not, however. But, as said above, I do not know much about B20 availability in my country - so can't really tell. Gruesse.

Bought One to replace my old Galaxy Note 4. I check that I stop having 4G coverage with my current operator (Vodafone). This only emits LTE in the B20 band in my locality. So it has no B20 band. We have been deceived by Bangood.

Does someone have screenshots of a X829?
Would be intresting wheter it matches the fake version.

yeah but this model as well as telus variant are rumoured to only support AWS bands for roaming.
it's said these models will not support AWS as native home network options.
I'll unlock and test this sucker out when my buddy gets in. he's with wind.
rogers called me yesterday and asked if i wanted to do that...
i was 7th on the reserve list. I had to work.. they even offered to pick me up in cab to come to the store.

[Q] Samsung SG Note 4 SM-N910C T-Mobile Network

Hello,
I recently bought the phone off ebay. It stated that this phone has the Band 4, 1700 and 2100 frequency. When I look at other sites with the same note 4 N910C model, it stated that the model does not support the 1700 mhz but only the 2100.
The seller gave me the samsung website and below stated that this phone supports B4 (AWS). Is that the same as 1700 and 2100 that T-mobile uses?
Can anyone confirm that the phone will work with my T-mobile network at 3g, 4g, or 4g LTE? I am in the USA and zip code 91746 if that matters. thanx!
The link of the phone i bought is below.

I guess you don't have the phone yet, but you may need to actually test it yourself. So far I have not seen any successful 910c units reported to get 4G in the US. That does not mean that you will be unable but the info is just not there(correct me if wrong).
Apparently both bands are needed-one band for out and another for inbound signal.
Good luck, I have been watching this as well.
I'm using mine in TMO Puerto Rico
I'm using my N910c in T-Mobile Puerto Rico and I get LTE. The only issue I have is a weak voice signal in places where I used to have better coverage. But I don't have problems with the data at all, at least as of now. Maybe in Puerto Rico LTE for Tmo is configured differently, but my LTE is working.
One thing I can tell you is that the package doesn't lists 1700 band in LTE AWS. But mine works ok on Tmo PR's network at least.
according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Americas
tmobile uses many blocks of 1700, depending on regions, but only on 1900 and 1700 mhz , and AWS is the one wrongly called 1700/2100 (1710 to 1755 uplink, and from 2110 to 2155 MHz downlink)
so in theory it has everything you need for tmobile in any area, maybe you need an update , check that no one messed with flashing your radio to some other model to make it work on their area
Hi i have 910C i can get a 4G signal i live in nyc my speeds are about 17 over 20 averagely and at best 30 over 30 hope that helps .
From what I can tell, you will probably be able to use it, but you said N910C, but linked us to an N910U. Either way I'll post my findings for both.
T-Mobile's bands are 2, 4, 5, and 12.
N910U's bands are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 28.
N910C's bands are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 17, and 20.
I'm new to this stuff, but this tells me that either one will mostly support T-Mobile. I would use an app to see which band you're currently utilizing on your phone, and pray that it isn't 12, cuz neither one will work.
Bonus: From what I can tell, the N910C will work completely on AT&T. :good:

Did you ever buy it?
If so how is it working?
I'm in the same boat and would like to know as well
Fixed the 4g issue!
I have the N919c from UAE and I got it to work on 4g for tmobile by calling SUPPORT.
When we use auto assign to 4g network through the data settings it will not automatically pick the correct Tmobile APNs. The support rep told me what to type line by line to get it perfect and I'm on 4g as I type this. You have to call them to get the correct values for your region but we DEFINITELY CAN GET 4G IN THE USA! I'm in Tampa Bay Florida with 4g in the ghetto, lol

Everything is good. coming from the nexus 4, i feel i have more control in my device (excluding the rooting and unlocking situation), due to microsd card, removable battery, and usb otg. Performance-wise, I think this phone will last me a very long time (if not probably my last phone upgrade). I don't game much so as long as apps, video and music playback, and web browsing is fast. When the battery falls below standard, i can easily just buy a new one from a reputable third party.
I just notice some "build quality" issue tho. Like the metal shiny sides r very easily scratched, and the top left corner of the screen near the led, you are able to move it if you push it in (made a thread about this but it seem to be normal). My note 4 had a defect, which was the the proximity sensor isn't working, so i sent the device back and i'm waiting for a new one or waiting to be repaired.

Intentional Limitation of Wifi & LTE Bands

Greetings XDA,
After some research, I've determined it to be a distinct possibility that the OnePlus X (possibly others) have built in software limitations.
In a recent tear down of the device (http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/OnePlus-x-teardown/) it was found that the device contains these two components:
Qualcomm WCN3680 RF chip
Qualcomm WTR1625L RF chip
Here are my findings of each of these parts.
Qualcomm WCN3680 RF chip
https://www.qualcomm.com/news/relea...1ac-product-ecosystem-provide-end-end-gigabit
"the WCN3680 is a mobile 1x1 802.11ac combo Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM chip"
This article from Qualcomm states the the chip present in the OnePlus X supports wireless AC.
Qualcomm WTR1625L RF chip
https://www.qualcomm.com/news/relea...olution-enables-single-global-lte-design-next
"The WTR1625L can accommodate all cellular modes and 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE frequency bands and band combinations that are either deployed or in commercial planning globally."
This article from Qualcomm states that the chip present in the OnePlus X is capable of supporting ALL LTE frequencies in use, or in the planning stages of development, as of Febuary 21, 2013. Where are Bands 12 & 17?
Am I correct in my findings? Will we be able to enable these bands with this method? http://www.xda-developers.com/add-frequency-bands-qualcomm/
if youre correct then i guess those features require higher license fees
thus theyve disabled them to keep costs down
I reckon they have the right chips, but haven't included all of the antennas due to size constraints. ie there is a 2.5GHz antenna for wifi, but not enough room for a 5GHz one.
Good news is, "It is not a hardware limitation" The link if I'm right is not working??? Trying to follow you. Update this link works:
http://www.xda-developers.com/add-frequency-bands-qualcomm/

So you're saying 5GHz WIFI and all LTE frequencies can be unlocked?
- edit -
O, now I understand, it was just about the link working, not the real thing.
All chipsets with integrated modems supports virtually all 2G, 3G and 4G frequencies that are user worldwide.. They are not activated because of bureaucratic questions, like regulators approval, licensing fees, etc.. etc... There are some examples on this forum of persons who succeed on activating frequencies that were previously deactivated on Snapdragon equipped phones..
WiFi is another story, because if the phone don't have a 5G antenna, then the fact that the chipset supports it, doesn't change nothing, because it will never work.
As I've mentioned in other related threads, once my OnePlus X arrives in the mail, I'll be sure to try my hand at unlocking band 17 since I have an active AT&T sim (I'll try band 12 too, but I can't verify that one).

Steady progress. I've gotten as far as were I can read and write NV values. This has required a lot of setup, mainly for Windows to communicate with the phone properly. The major problem I'm facing is that any NV value I write does not stick after a reboot. Thus far I've only needed root, but I may need a patch flashed and that will require TWRP. The OnePlus One required a RMT patch, so I'm going to try that later tonight or early tomorrow, making any modifications as required.

Very nice. Have you been able to test the added bands?
Makes me giddy thinking of all you pioneers hacking/developing for the OPX. This is the first time I've seen all these discoveries in real time rather than dug up the fossils of them months later.

Posting here as this is a very cool thread to follow.
So apparently it seems someone may have picked up band 12 on their OPX. Heres a link to the post in the OPX forums in the official OP forums:
https://forums.oneplus.net/goto/post?id=14158562#post-14158562
Want to test it out myself since I currently have another phone that actually picks up band 12. If I'm able to pick up band 12 in the city I'll have my OPX on hand to verify that it can pick up band 12.

The LTE discovery app is very unreliable on T-Mobile. There's many documented instances of false / incorrect information. It's the way T-Mobile sets up their network, it doesn't report the info, for apps to recognize the band.
The only true way to determine which band you're using would be to use the phones built-in service mode. Which the oneplus doesn't have ( I checked).
https://m.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/2w77an/tmobile_please_share_data_so_that_lte_discovery/
Also, here's the FCC approval document, oneplus or any company cannot add / change the radios without getting FCC approval.

I have not been able to. NVRAM values get loaded on boot. After unlocking my X's bootloader, I booted into TWRP and flashed the OPO's RMT storage patch. Let's just say it did not work out very well. Like cellular antenna not working at all, not so well. Thankfully I'm in the good habit of making backups before modifying anything and all is back to normal.
Any updates?
I don't understand One Plus. The One plus one, was/is such a great device. It put them on the map. The one x, is a beautifully designed phone. Why disabled/cripple the phone? To keep the price at $250? I would gladly pay $100 dollars more, for the one plus one, in the one plus x size, and design. I had to send mine back, because of lack of lte in my area on AT&T. Which by the way, I still haven't received a refund. And they received the phone back on 12/5. Their support is total crap!

Well Qualcomm's anti-tamper code is getting the better of me. I've tried using the Blu_spark kernal, but this did not rid of the code. My next step it to try and see if I can't to the mod on CM and have it live once OxygenOS is back on. This assuming CM can take the mod in the first place. I don't really want to have to flash a ROM for this mod. I was hoping to keep things as simple as possible so more people would take advantage this mod. Again, this assumes everything works as I hope it does. I'm so close, yet so far.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 North America Users Experience Discussion

I am opening this thread with the intention of enabling a discussion among the North American users (current/prospective).
It appears that Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon variant) is the logical choice for north american user, as it includes few of the 4G bands.
So, how is the network experience with the major cell phone carriers? Which firmware/rom includes those bands? AOSP/Global/China? Does VOLTE work?
I have been using the RN3P for the last couple weeks. I am in the Florida area in T-Mobile network, and really happy to see that I get 4G LTE most of the time. It's the band 4 according to the LTE Discovery app.
I have tried a bunch of different roms, including global stable, aosp and developer beta. I have observed that the network is much better with the developer MM roms. I am currently using the Epic ROM based on the developer rom, and I think I shall use it as my daily driver.

Connected to LTE with Rogers and Koodo (Telus Band 4 AWS). I ordered the china model which shouldn't have included Band 4 (if you believe the information on all the china sellers sites), and confirmed it's not Kate model as it is only 150mm tall.

That's good to know. There are so many variants of this device, it's really confusing. I ordered mine from Gearbest last week, who knows when it will show up. The problem with these Chinese retailers is that sometime they themselves don't know what they have. I guess I have to see what I get. I just hope that mine also supports band 4, which T-mobile in USA also uses.
Are you still using China firmware? Does the china model come with Google Playstore?
http://willmyphonework.net/
most networks will work on the note 3 Snapdragon version (kenzo).
the Kate or aka Note 3 Special Edition model supports a additional 'band 20' which afaik is not used in the USA (someone confirm?)
the Mediatek note 3 Hennessy most likely doesn't have good usa network support
so make sure you get the kenzo or kate model, though I would stick with kenzo since the kate doesn't have as good of support or accessories

Mine came with Global 8.0.1.0 installed, prerooted, and unofficial bootloader unlock. I flashed official 8.0.1.0 global from tgz file, which then relocked the bootloader. I have done the official unlock with the same 8.0.1.0 official stable with no problems.
It came with Google Playstore, and some gapps (not all).
Anyone tried AOSP roms in north america? Does it also get the lte coverage?
I have heard privacy concerns from many people MIUI roms. May be rumors, may be not. But I don't wanna take the risk.
Can anyone compare the performance between MIUI and AOSP roms?

I have seen a video on youtube where he compared it with a iphone speed, and it got around 100mbps (the iphone beat it by a few mbps) , but it's definitely capable of fast speeds, though it probably depends on the network / bands, single strength and local isp speeds...

I have on hand experience with Umi Super. Which carrier you are on? With T-mobile Umi Super had really poor data connection. Barely got 3g, I couldn't even stream a YouTube video. I don't think it has any north american band. It's a decent phone for the price, but do your research first.
In Florida with T-Mobile network, using band 4.
I recommend changing the default apn settings to fast.t-mobile.com one, which better result for me.

Xiaomi don't have all US bands why?

I'm interested to trying out Xiaomi , but seem like they don't have T-Mobile band 12 why? Huawei, ZTE, even the new company LeEco have band 12 and Xiaomi doesn't?
The Mi Note 2 Global Edition does have Band 12.
There are a total of three variants: 4GB RAM, 6GB RAM and another 6GB RAM variant which is specifically labelled as the Global 4G+ variant. This particular variant has the following bands:

So in theory this could work on Verizon as well? Now THAT would get my motor running.
any idea from where one can buy global edition phone?
answering my own question
geekbuying is selling global edition for 634 usd.
ibuygou is selling for 625 usd
Eudirect.shop is selling for 600usd

mi mix is available for pre order 637 usd @ geekbuying and 625usd @ibuygou. however they are not global edition not sure if xiaomi has any plan to release global edition of mi mix. current phone edition will not work properly on US LTE network it will only work on slower data network (2g/3g)
XIAOMI Mix would be quite a experimental phone, IMO, better sit and watch how it works first.
Only Mi Note 2 have bands that might work in the US...Mi Mix don't have it....luckily i not from/living in US and i can use the MI Mix without having to worries about bands
Does anybody know what bands supports usual version (not global)? Does it support LTE band 3 for example?)

According to IBuyGou:
Frequency:
FDD-LTE:B1/B3/B5/B7/B8
TDD-LTE:B38/B39/B40/B41
WCDMA:B1/B2/B5/B8
TD-SCDMA:B34/B39
GSM:B2/B3/B5/B8
Also a small note on the Global edition of the Mi Note 2: While it does support Band 12 for T-Mobile, you might not get VoLTE support on that network. Possibly something that one brave buyer may have to experiment and find out.

Mi Mix should work pretty well on T-Mobile LTE USA as it supports LTE bands 2 and 4.

i Swore I read somewhere they were also releasing a global version of Mi MIX let me see if I can find it ....
who knows i'm probably wrong
Hoping this is the first step in the direction of releasing US based devices. I like the price point and specs.
Both the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and the MIX use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip though, no? Unless I'm mistaken, the frequencies are locked out only on a software level, not a hardware level - I'm sure I've seen a few threads where people have manually added additional frequency bands to their devices to work in different regions of the world (at the risk of bricking their phone, but that's standard disclaimer stuff).
Wouldn't it be possible to purchase a Xiaomi Note 2 or MIX, and then just 'unlock' the bands that they say are not supported?
I'm in for one as soon as available, not happy after giving up Note 7...that was most awesome device. This looks a lot like Note 7...so I'll bite for 600ish

Just choose global version which supports all bands
For those who are wondering about this phone in the US. I have this phone (Global Edition) and have had it for about three months now. I used it on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon it worked no problem! I had AT&T originally, and it worked fine and even got band 30 in some areas. In my area AT&T speeds were horrible, so I switched to T-Mobile very briefly they had terrible coverage in my area. So I switched to Verizon. I use this phone all the time and get excellent speeds with it. I hope that helps.
