Storage - Samsung Galaxy Tab E Questions & Answers

Is there anyway to get the sd card to act as internal storage. I know Android offered this in newer firmwares but for some reason Samsung doesn't. My SM-T560NU is on 7.1.1.
Thanks

Is it even possible?

Encrypt sdcard

I can't find an option to encrypt the SD card. Under Settings->Security->Encryption there is "encrypt phone", but it doesn't seem to affect the SD card. Anyone know how to encrypt the sd card on this device?
Bump
I think that you have to format it as internal storage instead of a external SD.
When formatted as Internal it's encrypted.
BUT SDcard cannot be used in other devices then!
Thanks for the reply coolhead.
That's kind of disappointing. Am i correct that on some devices you can encrypt the SD card while its still external storage? I am almost 100% sure that my HTC M9 would do that.
I don't know it's been a long time for me to own an android device.
So this marshmallow is really new for me.
I just hate the idea that i cannot use the SDCard for apps if i use it as external.
Maybe someone else can answer your question about other devices able to do that.

I don't like not being able to use for apps when its on the external either. I checked on a friends S7, and found directions for doing it on the M9. So you can encrypt sdcard when used as external on other marshallow devices. Foiled by Lenovorola!!
I think encryption is not working in general and there is an issue about it: https://jira.lineageos.org/browse/BUGBASH-253
I am also quite sure that this bug was already in cyanogenmod and also reported there.
This refers to the encryption of the smartphone, not to the encryption of the microSD by adoptable storage.
adoptable storage with encryption working fine on LOS 14.1

Marshmallow Adoptable Storage issue

After employing the tweak to allow adoptable storage after receiving the Marshmallow update I thought I had addressed the problem of running out of space on my 16Gb internal memory device.
The configuration I chose was to split by 128Gb external SD into 64Gb adoptable and 64Gb portable. Thinking that the adoptable would be merged with the existing limited 16Gb I wouldn't have to face the nightmare of space issues whenever I install a new app. At least for a while.
Well it looks to me that the adoptable storage concept doesn't work the way I thought it would. I can move apps to adoptable storage but I could do that already when I just only had portable storage (before this exercise).
Now when I go back on all the apps that I had thought I moved to adoptable storage it now tells me it's in portable storage (external storage device) instead. I thought that's weird. So when I tried to move it from portable to adoptable it does nothing and remains in external storage device. Yet when I inspect what is in the adoptable storage it lists all the apps that I expected. This is very confusing. But what is more frustrating is that I cannot install new apps as my internal memory is almost full and Android appears to be ignoring the existence of the adoptable storage. So unless I delete apps from the internal storage I can't install any new apps which is ridiculous as only 4Gb out of 64Gb adoptable storage has been used.
Am I missing something here?
Use Apps2SD in order to do the split and to move apps. It's the only way that I was able to achieve the proper functionality for a partitioned SD card and move apps entirely on it.

Can you elaborate on this "split"?

The following seems to be your best bet that, apparently, works on the Galaxy S5 Snapdragon devices with MM installed.

I can't actually endorse this since I've never used this myself but, don't be afraid to ask for some member guidance within it too.
Good Luck!

Adoptive storage...wth?

Hey guys
I updated to Marshmallow from Lollipop coz of terrible battery drain etc
I just found out that after installing marshmallow that it uses adoptive storage. I use a 128gb external sd that I do NOT want integrated with internal storage.
Is there a way to keep MM and still use my external sd totally separate like it was with Lollipop or do I need to go back down to Lollipop?
I prefer being able to remove my external sd to use with my computer, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Are you on stock Marshmallow? I am, and there is no option for adoptable storage. As far as I'm aware, Samsung doesn't support it on our phone (see http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-...rage-on-Galaxy-S7-and-S7-edge-no-root_id79189 for example).
Have you actually seen the option, or are you just going by what you've been told? Even if it does support adoptable storage, you should definitely have the option not to use it, but to specify that your SD Card is 'portable'.
Are you rooted, using stock os/rom, or what? I had my note 4 with marshmallow twice, once with my sd card adopted and the last without. For the last rom on marshmallow(beanstalk), I had it separate because adoptable was awful. Maybe it wasn't working the way it should have, but most things were filling up the phone storage 1st. my sd card was barely touched. though, I only have a 64gb card. Having it separate was better for me, moving files around and downloading and whatever. The only issue was not being able to move apps or install apps on my sd card...which i absolutely hated. I just recently dropped back down to lollipop because too many issues popping up on the phone....and tired of fighting doze.

It's possible to use micro SD card as internal storage without encryption ?

Hi all,
I'm new here and I've read a lot of posts regards new android MM, but whitout a answer.
I've got now a new galaxy j5 2016 that become with MM preinstalled.
Until yesterday I used Lollipop on other smartphone.
Now the problem is :
It's possible to use micro SD card as internal storage without encryption into my new galaxy J5 2016 as I did with my old smartphone with lollipop?
I know how to root the device and I know that I can use sd card as internal storage, but I don't want to encrypt, because in case of breaking the smartphone, I will lost my photo and documents.(backup is never up to date!).
Thanks for answers..
Best regards
Not sure if you already found the answer to your question but it is generally not possible to mount the SD card as internal storage without encrypting the sd card, let me know if you found any other workaround for this issue.

S5 (G900i) SD Card as Internal Storage Access

Hi folks,
I'm guessing it's just my understanding on how this works, but if someone wouldn't mind explaining to me, that would be tops.
So we've got my old S5 with 16gig Internal and a 64gig SD Card, formatted as Internal.
Currently running LineageOS (Android 10; kltedv QQ3A).
Data is definitely being stored on the SD Card and what apps can be installed there, are. However, we've got TitaniumBackup still backing up to the actual, real Internal Storage and that is chewing up heaps of space and as far as the S5 is concerned, we're all but out of room!
How do I either move the TB folder to the SD Card or create a folder on the SD Card so that I can tell TB to use it instead ??
I've got root, but for whatever reason, it's just not computing with me how to sort this mess out.
Thanks for your time - Kind regards,
Dodgy Bob
