one plus 6T camera quality - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Guys recently bought one plus 6T 8gb ram thunder purple intl variant. Everything is good except the camera. I used one plus camera which had a lot of noise. So installed gcam 1.3, it's having issues with front cam not saving any pictures. Can anyone suggest a solution or any better app to try. Mine is rooted, any suggestions is welcome

What's wrong with your camera? Is there a functional issue or are we talking about subjective view of its quality? What smartphone cameras are you more accustomed to? Many folks around here like to use Open Camera for a third party option. As for the Pixel Camera port, I'd just keep an eye on the thread and try out the latest versions.

Google Camera and HDR+

I know some devs have succesfully ported pixel camera for nexus devices to allow HDR+. Is it possible to do the same for the LGV20 so that we can also expirience that HDR+ software?

So this question really irked me, in a good way of course. Whilst studying for my history exam, I was thinking that HDR+ is essentially software based. The Pixel's camera's specs are kinda mediocre aside from the 1.55um sensor—only f2.0 aperture and no OIS; the best part about the camera is the software to back it all up. So, I looked around to see if you could potentially port the camera app itself, which might have the correct algorithm for HDR+. I came across a dev who made the app Camera NX, which in essence is a port.
So here is a brief overview of the app.
And here he explains how the HDR+ has zero shutter lag.
What really got my attention is the following quote:
This mod is just an update to Chow's Camera NX app, which itself is a port of the Pixel's stock camera app and libraries. What that all boils down to is that you don't even need to be rooted to get Zero Shutter Lag with HDR+ mode right now.

Anyways, since I do not own an LG V20 (I hope to soon, once my Note 4 contract expires), you'll have to do most of the testing and report back, if that's alright. Nonetheless, I hope this was helpful!
Thanks for the reply. I did come across that apk and installed it. It does work as a camera but unfortunatly there is no HDR+ present. There is exposure setting and whitebalance toggles. The other problem i notice is that the slow motion seems worse quality then what is found on the stock app. By all means i am no expert bit if any one else has feedback or have tested this themselves and see improovements or HDR+ present let us all know.
Unfortunately I haven't found Google Camera to work on the V20;it works good on the note 5 though...weird. Stinks because there is no option to make photo-spheres with the V20 .
scrap that. I just downloaded the latest from xda...no problems!

actually the hexagon dsp on the snapdragon 820/821 does the heavy lifting for hdr+ which works different between the pixels and the 5x/6p. the latter ones only can do software hdr+. there was an interesting post on reddit about this. currently also searching for a modified google camera app as camera nx is only modified for the nexus phones. the lg g5 and v20 are very much capable of what the pixel does.
It probably isn't as simple as that. But have you tried changing the build.prop to identify the phone as a pixel?
I can't try myself as I don't have root access.

Photo sphere works on the regular Google camera app available on the play store, you don't need a modded version to use that feature

Except Google camera app is not available in the store with stock LG V20 software.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the pixel camera mod with the wide angle lens? I'm not sure how you would put the ability to switch from regular to wide in the app but is there any way to have it default to the wide angle lens instead of the regular one?

There are reports of the app using the wide lens and for others it uses the regular narrow one. For me on my h918 it uses the regular narrow lens. There is no button for switching like on the stock LG camera so as of right now I'm not aware of any way to switch between them.
I've found nice GCam mode suitable for V20

Oneplus 5 w/ Google Camera vs. Stock Galaxy S8+ camera- which is better?

So I currently have a Galaxy S8+, and have been eyeing the OP5, specifically the 8gb variant. Mainly because the battery life on my Galaxy has gotten to be pretty bad, and it's starting to lag/stutter more and more frequently. I know the stock OP5 camera needs some major work, but i was wondering how good the OP5 camera with the Google Camera port is compared to the camera on the GS8+?

Well apparently, the camera is complete crap in low light after the 4.5.10 update.
From most of the reviews it was crap in low light since launch....
Don;t use camera that much so no idea... Wasn't what attracted me to it, 8gb ram was....

Fair enough. The camera is pretty important to me, but having a phone that doesn't lag is also pretty important.

Post processing is a joke, in manual mode the OP5 can take excellent shots. Things could get better as soon as Oneplus hires someone with knowledge about photography. For example, in lowlight it will switch to ISO 9600, in manual mode I get a great shot with ISO 800, you can imagine what a picture looks like with ISO 9600...

As you say, apparently...For me, I actually have the 8 g ram version and I am running the latest OOS, the quality of the picture is quite good for me whether in low light or good light. That's the best phone I ever have. I am satisfied with the phone in every aspect. I see no downside for me. I may be blind

does your v20 lag already? this phone is pretty solid.
Op5 camera is very good, specially for the price. See youtube reviews, they compare the camera with iphone 7+, g6, s8, etc. Imho, this is more than acceptable for a small sensor camera.
on gsmarena, you can see many test.
people on xda *****ing the camera because they must be kind of pissed about the ''clearer photo'' op marketing, and at the end, the camera is not the top one on the market.
I personally think the camera can hold its own against the other phones. Especially in manual mode. I do a lot of sunset pictures and they comes out good. However, I think if TouchWiz was more bearable, and if it was easily rootable (I use a lot of apps that requires root) I'd have gotten a s8 instead.
I prevously had the S8+, I now have 8gb oneplus 5, camera quality is about the without any noticeable difference, plus you get the portrait mode. Battery life is better, ram management is better, speed is better, only thing i miss the the bezzeless display.

Lieageos photo quality vs stock Android one

Hi! I'm thinking off buying a Xiaomi Mi A1 and was wondering how does the lineageos photo app compare to stock one? Is the photo quality the same? Does the 2x optical zoom work?
dont buy mia1 in 2018 buddy, get something with sd636/660 or 845 instead. Redmi note 5 pro, mia2 and poco f1 are my quick suggestions.
Thank you for you repley but it doesn't answer my question. I don't play games so don't give a crap about faster CPU. My Nexus 5 is enough for me so I presume that Mi A1 CPU will be more than enough. It has micro SD and 3,5 jack so all I need. Back on topic. How does the lineageos camera photo quality compare to stock? I would like to run lineage Google free.
If you want quality, you must install Gcam port. Both stock and aosp cameras suck.
Not running Lineage, but I saw Magisk module for stock camera on custom ROMs, so you should be able to use stock app with 2x zoom. 3rd party camera apps do not support switching to 2x zoom lens (at least none of those which I tried). Though 2x zoom lens is not very useful, thanks to slow aperture it's next to unusable in anything else than bright light. Portrait mode is nice in theory, but you can't turn of "beautification" mode, which is utter crap as it smears all the details. Otherwise stock camera performance during day is very good (IMHO much more natural than GCAM). In low light it's crap, this is when I switch to GCAM and its magical HDR mode. But I don't know if you can run GCAM without Google framework.
So I'm stuck with either google looking into my pants or using some patched files which I can't trust or having a crap stock camera. SNAFU
Well, pick your poison..

I know people love Gcam but unless you have an old phone or a phone where the built in camera app is poorly coded (ie any phone by OnePlus) then the native camera app will take better pictures than the ported Gcam app because the native camera app is coded specifically for the hardware and firmware.
When I had the Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro some people still wanted to use Gcam which is insane since both take better pictures than Pixel phones out of the box and they also have much more powerful camera hardware than Pixel phones are equipped with.
The S10+ doesn't take better pictures than Pixel phones but it does have a capable native camera app optimized for the hardware.
If you really want to take better pictures you need to buy a better camera phone. The S10 series has the same camera sensor Samsung has been using since the S7 series. It's not going to turn into a great camera phone no matter what app you use.

I disagree.
I say this as a s10 plus owner. Gcam provides a huge boost in image quality. I've taken many photos, plants, people, clothes, and nearly always, the gcam produces photos with much better detail and sharpness.
I don't want to buy a Google or iPhone, I like Samsung phones. The only major issue is the camera software, not hardware. Thanks to gcam, I now have a great camera set up and hundreds of thousands would agree across the world.

I also disagree. There is a noticeable difference in the level of fidelity of photos when zooming in on gcam photo versus a stock samsung cam photo. The samsung cam even after turning down the post processing effects to zero still have some splotchieness to them where as gcam photos do not. This is noticeable not only on my S10+ but also on my 32 inch 4k monitor where I do photo editing.
Also, the portrait mode on the gcam is far superior than sumsungs live focus mode.

Thanks for the comparisons! I'm hoping to be comparing my Pixel 4 and 8T side by side with Gcam here in the next week.
Photos are a huge thing for me as well so this will be my primary driver towards OnePlus or moving to the Pixel 5.

Same for me. I really enjoy the Photos of my OP3 with Gcam 7.2 very much, everyone is astonished about the quality a 4 year old 450€ phone can achieve.
It's just too slow, takes 30 seconds after 2 shots to process
So far, I had no time to test the OP8T, but tomorrow I hope my wife and me can make comparison shots with OP3 and OP8T, both with GCam. The macros that you can achieve with of the OP3 and GCam are really amazing, you can see single hairs on bumblebees.
Why did I not choose a Pixel 5?
1. You can't buy it officially in Austria and they cancel illegally purchases from Austria in the German shop
2. Google support is the worst of the worst, while OnePlus has fantastic support, easy to reach.
3. You get so much more raw power in the OP8T than in the Pixel 5. While the Pixel 5 is good for anything it does today, it's CPU is 1/2 to 1/3 of the power of the 865, so in ~2 years it will already have problems with some software
That said, the pixel camera software is unbeaten and If there would not be Gcam mod, I had a Pixel.

My Jeep in the snow
Anybody managed to get a good enough picture with the macro lens? For me the macro camera is really poor. I mean, like 2005 used to have better camera than this, the photos are very unclear and grainy every single time, pretty useless. The main camera is good enough and the Ultrawide is ok, usable. But the other 2 are really a waste of space. imo.
