OPPS28.85.13-2 October Security patch TWRP flashable. - Moto G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I had posted this in another thread but then I realized I made a mistake. The TWRP flashable zip made by @NZedPred is made out of reteu/retca's OPPS28.85-13-2, which is different from retbr/retus's OPPS28.85-16-2.
Despite being on retbr this firmware works normally on my device, but I decided to create another thread to avoid confusion.
Here is the link for OPPS28.85-13-2 TWRP flashable https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603847745

hallo all, just wantet to know if i install twrp on my oneplus 2 + SuperSU.zip will i be able to update thro settings>about phone>system update (regulair ota update)
will i have to uinstall root/superSU.zip?
or can it simly not be done with twrp
i know i can just download OTA Signed flashable zips from like oneplus forum (or here) and install them, but thats not what i wanna do!!

No, regular update is not possible if you are rooted. You will need to do dirty flash of stock ROM and then update your phone.
Hit thanks if I helped!!!

I can confirm flashing OTA's with the offical version of TWRP works!
So I downloaded the official version of twrp from the site and flashed
Downloaded and flashed full version of OxygenOS 2.0.2
Downloaded and flashed 2.1 OTA
OTA flashed with out any issues. If you do have issues make sure you download the latest version of twrp. Also make sure you are not rooted.

@Stephen says it, I don't tried it, but it seems that you can flash OTAs with TWRP, but you have to be sure to unroot your phone first: it migth be easier to download the OTA than the full ROM every time, I agree.

upgrading to nougat

Hi all,
I am using xt1643. I installed nougat sock test rom and it is not providing options to update to final nougat rom. Current build npj25.75-2
I read in a thread that downgrading can cause problems. So, what should i do: downgrade to marshmallow and then upgrade via ota or directly flash final nougat rom??
Thanks in advance.

The 75-2 soak test update is a dead end unless you were on the official soak test program. I've not seen any further updates captured to allow you to formally upgrade via OTA to the official Nougat (currently build 93-14).
You could explore either option though:
1) Downgrade to MM, do not flash gpt partitions or bootloader (omit those commands) - you may find a signed stock ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1643-updated-signed-t3460695 (and the associated guide for downgrading: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/how-to-downgrade-nougat-to-marshmallow-t3487201). Then update via OTA to Nougat. You may prefer this to ensure that your update comes directly from Motorola. EDIT: note this method will void your warranty.
2) Flash via fastboot/RSDLite either the 93-11 Nougat update (v7.0, Nov 2016 security update) https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/android-7-0-install-nougat-official-t3531612 and update to the latest version via OTA, or flash 93-14 (v7.0, Dec 2016) https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1640-43-athene-npj25-93-t3549369 This option is the more direct/less potential for things going wrong, it's up to you how much you'd trust the updates you flash. EDIT: This method does not appear to void your warranty.
With either option, back up your key data and be aware your settings and personal data may be erased in the process. Personally, I'd suggest a full wipe to limit the number of issues that may arise. Good luck though
You can now flash full stock roms with (the right) TWRP:

bootloader and partition table is not flashed with these zips
Hey @echo92 and @Droidphilev...
Can I use this method??

No idea. Never done that. I use the flashable zips.

It appears to be the same method as one of the 93-11 methods I posted above: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/android-7-0-install-nougat-official-t3531612
Just bear in mind with using the 93-11 update to install it in India or somewhere we know that particular firmware has been released (and thus has an upgrade path to the latest 93-14 firmware) or download this 93-14 OTA update once you've updated to 93-11. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/ota-zip-update-npj25-93-14-t3539407
Thanks for the help....Followed the other link and successfully upgraded to Nougat full build 93-11 and then updated using OTA to 93-14.

Unfortunately, absynte's guide is unlikely to work.
Have a look at your own past thread from October last year about the same query, which was answered & seemed to have been solved?
How to update to 6.0?
If not, follow erayrafet's advice there. Let us know if you need help to follow it.
Please don't keep opening a fresh thread for the same query - post in one thread from now on: either that one or this one (not both). Thanks.

Unfortunately, FlashFire doesn't work well with Huawei phones. After posting this exact same suggestion in that previous thread, I tried it on my P6 despite the prior warning (see below), & true enough it didn't work. Thankfully, I easily managed to fix the resulting 'soft' brick by restoring a nandroid backup.
"- Added warning for Huawei users about brickability" (from the main FlashFire thread Changelogs post)
--------------------------------------
So zuperpailon, whatever you do or try, please make sure to create a prior nandroid backup with TWRP & transfer a copy of the backup to a computer or similar for safekeeping.

If you get now answer, nobody wants to share his backup since it's too much for most data plans to upload.
But you can do the following to get your own backup fast and easy:
You can flash the stock December security patch rom yourself
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
and make a backup after temporary booting twrp afterwards like mentioned in the root instructions.

Mod Edit: :good:

Can't find twrp file that works for SM-350. Please help.

My apologies if I accidently broke the rules with this post. I haven't posted for a long time and I'm a bit rusty on use of this forum.
I have a Galaxy Tab A that I have been trying to load TWRP on, without success. I am convinced the reason is that the TWRP files ae for the wrong hardware.
After calling Samsung tech support here is the info I can provide to identify the tablet.
Samsung SM-T350NZWAXAR gt58wifi-gt58wifixx-smt350 Build number NMF26XT350XXU1CQJ5
Now when I search for the TWRP tar file, the only thing close to a match for the hardware is codename a8hplte . I selected the most recent TWRP file.
Well, I've flashed that tar file using Odin several times but I still get the stock recovery when I boot into recovery .
Is it possible that Samsung has a device for which TWRP doesn't work? I'm hoping someone out there has the same model and can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention, I sent an email query to TWRP. They didn't respond. No help whatsoever.
No idea where you were looking, but the 1st page of the rom, kernel + recovery subforum for the Samsung tab already has a thread with TWRP for the SM-T350.
Now it's not my specific tablet so idk if it works, but you can just read the thread and ask there.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I had been trying to get a image/tar file from the official TWRP website. Now, I also saw the page you provided a link to. When I read it, I saw that the version (
twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t350_18317.tar) that was recommended is in a category labeled "for Marshmallow only). What I have is Nougat, and in that category there is no SM-350 TWRP file. So if you would please help me one more time; Should I be using the file from the Marshmallow only category, or the Nougat for SM-355 (which doesn't match what I have)? Thank you again for your assistance.

Like I said - it's not MY device, so I suggest you ask in the linked thread as the users there will HAVE the device and know better
download ROM/firmware (lowest possible version) from https://www.sammobile.com according to your CSC, repair tablet with Odin3, and unlock bootloader first
