Pixel 3 XL at $699 or Oneplus 6T at $579? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Do you guys think Pixel 3 XL at $699 (discount of $200 off for Thanksgiving) is a better buy than OP 6T at $579? I have OP 6T, but has some annoying bus like widgets not refreshing, apps not sending notifications, wifi calling not working like Pixel 2 XL I had

OnePlus. I have none of those issues. Reset it.

I had a 3xl and sold it after using the 6T for a week!! Camera is the only thing I miss and the but an is pretty good.
That notch on the 3xl is redonk!!!

What about Pixel 3XL at $629.99 vs 6T? Verizon is offering $300 off with trade in

I love my 6t! Never had any of those problems you mentioned. Did you buy your 6t from T-Mobile? Their variant is already 5 updates behind the international variant I believe. I have the international variant and my software version is 9.0.5.
Also worth mentioning. The only thing I don't like about this phone is the speaker placement and the fact that it's just a single one, easily muffled. Hate that. Everything else is GREAT! The specs are simply better than the Pixel 3!

dont verizon lock their bootloaders with no chance of unlocking?
Im personally going back to my v30+
Phone is a heavy ass hell.

Pixel 2 XL owner here so I was able to make direct comparisons between the pixel and OP6T. Seen and played around with the Pixel 3 XL but simply hated the notch but Pixel 2 & 3 performance looks more or less the same. Sure, the notch can be hidden by the UI but that makes the screen estate smaller than the Pixel 2 XL (with a large forehead).
1. Pixel camera is generally better. Night mode on pixel looks better than OP6T and is more forgiving. If you don't have steady hands or can't keep the camera steady, OP6T cams will turn out blurry. Alternatively, just use GCam for nightmode on OP6T.
2. The extra RAM on the OP6T makes a big difference, unless you run 1-2 apps at a time and constantly terminate the apps.
3. The OP6T speakers suck. Pixels dual front-firing speakers are loud and clear which makes for better sounding calls and watching videos. Not an issue if you mostly use a headset like me.
4. FP unlock on the pixels are faster than OP6T. Would be nice if the OP6T has both front and back FP unlock.
Frankly speaking, I don't think the price on the Pixel 3s are justified. I chose the OP6T because its what I wanted the Pixel 3 to be - top-notch hardware with almost-stock android.

I did factory reset 3 times and still have same issue... It's just two apps having this issue and I didn't have that on Pixel 2 XL

OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T

Who here prefer buying a OP 5 now and save a few bucks instead of a 5T? And why?
Am I the only one who prefers the 16:9 screen ratio of the OP5?
I bought OP5 on the same day it launched and now am regretting it. Had they released 5T next year or atleast at a higher price tag than OP5 would be fair. Now we OP5 users are desparate to upgrade to OP5T. Atleast the company should've come up with buy back scheme for OP5 users to upgrade to 5T hassle free.
Atleast my OP5 is 5 months old. But what for those who bought it a couple of days or weeks before OP5T release. This is very disappointing by the Team. They ripped off 5 with 5T just like they ripped off 3 with 3T.
Go for oneplus 5T, it's much better deal
Honestly, with not much having changed in regards of CPU, RAM and other performance factors, I'm not feeling the upgrade hype at all, especially since the fingerprint sensor of OP5t is on the back and the camera has not been considerably improved.
So I'm actually preferring my OP5, and think 5.5" is already almost too big for my hands. I hope by the time an actually upgraded Oneplus comes around they stick to 5" or 5.5" rather than a 6" formfactor.
It'd be nice to have a real camera upgrade that actually takes clearer photos like they advertise. The OP5 zoom is more useful than downsampled images.
As far as I'm aware you can't buy the 5 no more. It's discontinued on their site.
For me the 5 is a beast, if I didn't have it then I'd buy the 5T, I believe you'll get slightly less stamina on the 5T Vs the 5 due to the battery not being too dissimilar and the screen being larger and a higher resolution, can't see the paltry increase making up the difference there.
But then again that's just my opinion based on specs and past experience with higher resolution screens.
Maybe I'm going blind lol I can't really tell the difference :silly:
The 5T isn't a good enough upgrade for me to warrant a purchase. I'll just wait for the OnePlus 6.

Same here!
The op5/op5t camera isn't even an upgrade regarding the camera if you come from op3. In fact i think pics are worse
Im taking about rear camera, selfie camera is a bit better.
I looked for a mint condition used OP5 and bought it a week ago for 70% of OP5T price so I don't regret anything
No reason to switch from 5 to 5T
For me there is absolutely no reason to switch from 5 to 5T.
They are apart from the camera (possibly a downgrade) and a slightly larger screen the same phone. (so same same but different)
I'm annoyed that OP is artificially limiting the 5 regarding face unlock. (So it seems that it is currently just a sales point)

Pixel 3xl IS 95% Pixel 2xl (photos)

Assuming (and we all are almost certain now) that the leaked images of pixel 3xl are right, and assuming the Chinese manufacturers who started making screen protectors and cases for the P3XL are accurate, i wanted to see how bad the notch could be in real life, and compare sizes with P2xl, so i bought one of the Chinese screen protectors for p3xl and started comparing it to my P2xl.
I can confidentially say that P3xl is 95% or more in size with P2xl, to a level that we can say ITS a P2xl with a screen stretched up around the notch..
You can see in the attached photos, putting the P3xl screen protector over the P2xl screen, the notch is as deep as the top bezel of P2xl, and the bottom bezel is almost identical in each..
Size is also identical, both phones have the same overall size (in screen protector photo over the back of P2xl)
Side bezels are more slimmer for my eyes..
Photos attached should clear everything out..
Thanks for clearing that i dont need to buy pixel 3 this year ?

What he said!!
This is definitely going to be a dud, sticking with the Pixel 2 XL.
My Pixel 3xl is looking more and more like a OnePlus 6t!
Versus the Pixel 2 XL:
-Most likely a very similar LG P-OLED display (but notched): Nothing groundbreaking
-Still 4GB of RAM: So don't expect less app reloads
-Snapdragon 845: Slightly faster than the Snapdragon 835 in real-life usage, probably not even noticeable in most scenarios
-Supports wireless charging: Cool feature but not exactly a game changer (Coming from a Galaxy S7 edge, I don't miss it)
-Smaller battery
The only question mark that remains is the camera: Will it be vastly superior to the already great Pixel 2 XL camera? I have a strange feeling the hardware (sensor, lenses, etc.) will be the same, with only a tweaked camera app (that will be ported for the Pixel 2 XL anyway)
The more I think about it, the more I struggle to understand why the Pixel 3 XL exists.
It exists for OG Pixel owners to upgrade to.

Usually people upgrade every 2 years. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL may not be much better than the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL since they're only a year old, but it's a pretty good upgrade from the original 2 year old Pixel or Pixel XL. Personally I can't wait to get a Pixel 3 XL. It will be a massive upgrade from my dying Nexus 6P.
People ***** and moan about the notch and chin, but I think the Pixel 3 XL is a fine looking device. I guess I'm like one of those parents who thinks their child is adorable even though it's ugly as sin...

Exactly - if you hide the notch via blacking out its "corners", the Pixel 3 XL will look decent - almost like the 2 XL. If there is no default option for this, I'm sure that there will be Substratum overlays to do so.
I won't upgrade my 2 XL this year, this is completely pointless. But if my contract would be due for a new device, I'd definitely get the 3 XL.
The Pixel 3 is simply not worth upgrading from the Pixel 2. We get the camera update, same amount of RAM, the only major change is the processor from 835 to 845. Definitely not worth the money, considering how fast depreciation ocurrs. Most of the High End devices, LGV40, Galaxy S9, Pixel 3, seem to be at a standstill when it comes to any significant upgrades from their successor. The. Previous versions are nearly identical, Qualcomm 835 vs 845 is minimal, camera improvements are insignificant, with possible exception to the LG V40s 5 camera system. Anyone upgrading to latest version from previous versions is wasting money.

OnePlus 8 Pro?

I currently have a Pixel 2XL and am starting to itch for an upgrade. I was excited for the Pixel 4XL but I can't justify the price for what you get. Then the OnePlus 7 Pro caught my eye and I'm considering buying that with the Black Friday deal.
Do you guys think it would be worth waiting for the OnePlus 8 Pro (April-May 2020) or should I just pull the trigger on the 7 Pro with it's current discount?
I'd go for the OP7Pro if the black friday discounts are substantial. selling the OP7Pro in future will not suffer much loses if you wish to change phones in future.
Get the 7Pro for the win! Then trade up to the 8 later...
Getting the OnePlus 7Pro was the largest jump in phones as far as tech/display and just all around happiness with the device(previously used the LG G7/Mi Mix 3). Easily money well spent and to be honest, if i completely bricked this one i would try to buy another one to replace it.
Well I heard the 8 is gonna have a hole punch. So if you want the gorgeous display get the 7pro

HOLE PUNCH?!?!???! BLEGGHH. I cant go from a full, un-interrupted display to a silly looking punch hole in my screen. I really loved the look on the Mi Mix 3 and i love the look on the 7Pro( i never use front facing camera's anyway)
I have both the 2xl and OP7 pro and love both. 2xl camera still runs laps around 7 pro but 7 pro is in another league in every other measurable.

That is disappointing to hear. I love the camera on my Pixel 2XL and feel it might be the only thing to make me return the OnePlus 7 Pro when I get it.
In my personal opinion I feel that camera quality is very subjective. Let's face it, we are talking about looking at the majority of our pictures on a 5 or 6 inch screen that has more resolution than most TV's! The only way you can tell if one camera is better than another is to hold them side-by-side while looking at the exact same photo....who does this? The camera on the 7 Pro is great...it takes pictures...in color....on a fairly large high resolution screen. To make our choice for a "phone" (communication device) based on how accurate the pictures might be (which again is subjective) is not the way to do things. There are too many other things that are necessary for one of these compact computers to work properly that I feel that the camera is the last, and the least important. If the battery runs out...no pictures...if you cannot maintain a good network signal, then you basically have an overpriced camera. It's just gotten way out of normal reasoning to worry so much about the camera on a smart phone. YMMV

There is a ported gcam app for OP7 that closes the quality gap a bit but you have to be rooted to use the Telephoto, and Wide lenses with it. The upgrade is still worth.
I wish the front cam cutout were in the middle and not on the left side like how it's shown in the leaks @ 8 Pro.
OnePlus 8
OnePlus continues to attract attention until the official announcement of the OnePlus 8 phones, and once again new official images emerge showing the colors of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
This year, OnePlus introduces an exclusive blue color for OnePlus 8 Pro, or is known as Ultramarine Blue, on the other hand, OnePlus OnePlus 8 Pro is presented in green or Glacial Green hue, which is also offered for OnePlus 8 flagship edition.
Oneplus OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 are slated to be offered in Onyx black, and OnePlus 8 Pro does not come in blue like the Interstellar Glow model presented in OnePlus 8.
Roland Quandt also highlighted new leaks on the OnePlus 8 Pro screen that appears curved design on both sides, while the screen appears flat in the main version of OnePlus 8.
OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the screen brightness ratio reaches 1,300 nits.
Previous leaks confirmed that OnePlus 8 Pro has 48-megapixel sensors, with the main Sony IMX689 sensor 1 / 1.43 and 1.12µm pixels, while the IMX586 sensor comes with wide viewing angles, with an 8-megapixel zoom sensor, and it supports up to 3 times optical zoom , While the last 5MP sensor comes to collect more accurate color detail.
It is reported that OnePlus company recently confirmed that the OnePlus 8 Pro phone was launched with a Snapdragon 865 processor, and also reviewed the efficiency of the refresh rate of 120 Hz in the screen, the phone also comes with LPDDR5 standards in random memory, and UFS 3.0 standards in storage capacity, as the phones support 5G networks .
Current Pixel 2 user - I'm going to ride out the last year of Google support and jump ship next year. Will be interesting to see the advancements going to the 5nm SD875, which I assume will be on most of 2021 flagships!

Pixel 4 XL to OP 8 Pro?

Thinking maybe ditching my Pixel 4 XL for the OnePlus 8 Pro. My main beefs with my 4 XL are mediocre to poor battery life, and dim low brightness screen.
Anyone do a similar switch?

I did I had pixel 4xl for few months it is good phone and I choose one plus as replacement and so far I don't regret
Oxygen Os is almost as good as stock Google Os
Only thing I miss is gesture for nav bar from pixel 4
Anyone else switch from a Pixel 4 XL to a OnePlus 8 Pro?
I also switched from a 4xl to an 8 pro.
Virtually everything is better for me with the 8 pro.
I'd give the camera edge to the 4xl but it's closer than I thought it would be.
The wide angle lens and video of the 8 pro brings things pretty close.
The 8 pro is faster, smoother, looks and feels better, is brighter and the Oxygen OS is an upgrade to the pixel launcher (although I still end up reverting back to Nova).
The display with its 120hz and qhd is just ridiculous. Best display ever to this point.
All in all just a great phone and a real upgrade to the 4xl.
IMO

June 2020 - Purchase a new OnePlus 6T or wait for Pixel 4a

I am looking for a new phone and B&H has a great deal on the 6T. I am torn between buying a new 6T or waiting for the Pixel 4a. Do you have advice?
Thanks
I recently bought mine for roughly 210$ minimally used. With the current announced specs of the Pixel 4a the OnePlus 6T should still be on top performance wise.
Do keep in mind the 6T is nearly 2 yrs old and will not receive new android version after 11. If that matters to you get the Pixel, else the 6T is still a great phone even by 2020 standards

Also consider storage for your usage, fingerprint sensor, and overall size.
I have a Pixel 3 (which is about the same physical size as the Pixel 4a) and a 6T.
Fingerprint sensor: I much prefer the rear-mounted sensor on the Pixel. The in-screen sensor on the 6T can be finicky and takes longer to read but it does have face unlock which works really well.
Size: The 6T feels significantly larger when using it with one hand and in pockets.
Storage isn't an issue for me as the 64GB in the Pixel 3 is more than enough so the 128GB in the 6T is just a bonus. When I do play mobile games, it's always on the 6T only because of the additional storage, bigger screen, and bigger battery.
i have 6t and im waiting for 4a because of camera. the one in 6t is awful. i hate colors it produce and the oil painting effect.
also the fingerprint sensor has troubles with my fingerprints.
Pixel.

Hey, check out the OnePlus Z, it should be similarly priced to the Pixel 4a, and has a 90 hz display.

Yes wait for oneolus z.... You wont regret it!
I went throught the same decision process. Got the 6T. It was $300 vs. $500 and waiting til October. I love it. Not worried about support because it's a very popular device with lots of dev support for 3rd party roms and I won't be keeping longer than 2 years anyway. I've seen reviews that compare the camera favorably compared to pixels. I like the camera (but of course I'm coming from an Essential).
