Oneplus sent me a bricked 6t - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

So I just received a brand new Oneplus 6t like 20 minutes ago. Open the box and it won't turn on. I assume its dead so I plug it in and no response. Left it that way for 10 minutes and nothing happens.
I plugged it into my computer and it shows up in device manager as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. Did Oneplus forget to flash the firmware to my phone?? Is there anyway I can fix this now or do I have to wait for them to send me another and send mine back?

Gotcha, guess it's kinda difficult to boot into recovery if it's not there....... just thought I'd ask,for others to benefit should they run into the same issue.
Definitely falls under the warranty, guessing you'll have no problem getting a replacement,or,getting everything installed on that one & returned to you.
Please keep us posted on your outcome. :good:

Been there myself w/the infamous brickloop on the OG 1+1,someone from here @ XDA came up w/the fix & a few days later,OnePlus magically "solved" the issue, just added a few needless lines of code to distinguish it from the original fix.
Yeah,I spent several hrs spanning over a week w/OnePlus on Team Viewer, not fun, hoping your outcome goes much smoother & in less time.

Same here. Mine worked for about an hour. Then it turned itself off. Now I can't get anything out of it. Tried holding down the power button, holding down vol. up, vol. down, etc. Nothing. Trying to work through this with support.
lsusb recognizes a USB device -- Qualcomm Gobi Wireless Modem. But that's it. adb does not see it.

That sucks, that's the reason i have a 6t now. I ordered a p3xl and it was doa. Line got stuck processing the return. So i cancelled and bought this.
Good luck

I will say that once I got it setup initially and then ran the system update that it did not reboot after hit reboot and I couldn't get it to come on for a while. I thought the update had bricked it. But I kept fiddling with it every once in a while holding down the power button and it came back to life. So who knows.

Uh oh, the iconic Qualcomm 9008, a fix is very rare and very device specific for this issue. So basically yeah, OnePlus forgot to write anything to the storage, more than likely you don't have a recovery mode either. Just send it back and get it replaced.

Is there a charging indicator on this phone? Just curious. My phone is still dark/dead. Dealing with support on getting a replacement. But I'm wondering about the charging indicator. I get absolutely nothing. Is there supposed to be a battery charging icon on the screen, when the phone is off but plugged in?

Yes there is supposed to be a battery indicator. Mine doesn't do anything and is confirmed defective. Returning it and getting another.

Well I ended up "fiddling with it" enough that it came back to life. It started up when I held down the vol. down and power buttons. I had tried that a hundred times before, along with other combinations. No idea why it worked this time. I hope this doesn't happen again. Thanks, everyone.

Don't panic dude. If you have the qualcomm thing when you plug into a computer you might actually be fine. I managed to fix mine (after ordering a replacement ironically). Basically the device is permanently stuck on and you can't do anything til the battery drains entirely. The mode is ignoring the power button.
After mine died completely the power button would get it into a state where it would say its out of battery and to charge. After charging I was able to boot to bootloader (which was already unlocked wtf) and flash the images in the dump someone posted under general one by one.
When it booted it worked partially, fingerprint was ****ed. At this point try to update and it will fail saying partial update failed, try full update. Once this was done it flashed all partitions. The reason for this is my device had the bootloader unlocked but critical wasn't unlocked and it wouldn't let me unlock it saying it already was unlocked, so when I flashed the images from the dump I couldn't flash critical images. The full signed update from the system flashed these critical partitions and its fully working. I am still sending it back because I don't know whether to trust the device.
Update me if this works for you!

this literally just happened to me...i almost crapped myself. i fiddled with the buttons for a bit, and it came back.

I would try to send it back and see if they can send another one out.

I reached the live chat support, they told me to charge it for 2 hours and try to boot it but it doesn't work, now I assume it is fully charged so it will take an eternity for the phone to drain, I think I have no choice but to ask for a replacement unless it boots up until then. Anyway the phone is actually detected by Windows so there might be some hope..

[Q] Nexus 7 bricked

Hi guys, I'm having what looks like a big problem on my Nexus 7 (2012). I've tried to flash the stock 4.4 on it, since I already did that with 4.3. Followed all the instructions on a thread posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
When i made it to the final step, the screen turned off, but instead of rebooting, it got stuck in black screen. I've tried to enter fastboot, but it doesn't respond... Any suggestions?
Is the backlight on and just the screen black? If so I would try adb commands.

The screen is completely off, doesn´t respond to any combination of buttons, whether to turn on, access fastboot... I've tried adb, but the devices isn't listed in adb devices
I still have a nandroid backup, but I'm not even sure how to use it, since the Nexus doesn't respond connected through usb
Try plugging the N7 into its OEM charger for a little while, then discoonect - hold Volume Down button & press Power button for at least 15 to 30 seconds, a minute or so if necessary to see if it will boot back into bootloader and/or recovery.
It had unlocked bootloader, rooted and which recovery did you have - CWM or TWRP ?
Do you have a spare / different PC or borrow one - plug it in with the oem cable, does it beep or install drivers - see the N7 ??

I'm in the EXACT same boat. No screen and it won't get recognized by the PC anymore. I think it's bricked.
I have an RMA number but I don't know if I should send it in because they might come back say it was "modified" (unlocked bootloader). Hopefully, they can't tell and will just replace it. I don't care about the data. I backed it up before this all happened because I was going to go bac to 4.3 (Kit Kat broke flash video streaming so I was going back to 4.3).
Well, they apparently replaced the motherboard and it's in a "SHIP" status, but it's been that way since Thanksgiving week. Haven't received an email from them stating it's shipped, so I have no way of tracking it.
When I contacted support about it, that's when they told me the motherboard was replaced and they shipped it out, but they didn't give me a shipping date. I emailed them back about getting a tracking number, etc. Have yet to hear back from them. They have a slow turn around on email/support questions (48+ hours it seems).
Just hope I get it back soon.

Looks like you'll be good to go then. With mine, you couldn't even get the Nexus logo to show up. Nothing ever came on the screen. In fact, I never saw the screen flash like it does when you hold power+vol up+vol down to reset it, so I think with mine, they couldn't tell I unlocked the BL.
In any case, the new machine is running fine with the new motherboard, but I can't restore my backup from my previous tablet. I did the backup with the N7 toolkit, but the /data backup won't restore. Logcat shows something about a key not being found or not being matched so it just aborts.
I'm wondering if when I did the backup on my previous machine, if it generated a key based off of something on my previous N7 motherboard, like the serial number? So, when it tries to restore the backup, it generates the key based off of the NEW motherboard which won't match with the key in the .tar backup? Is there a way to tell it to SKIP checking the key?
I just don't know. Anyways, glad to see yours is getting repaired. Hopefully, mine lasts a good long time before it dies out. My warranty expires next month in January as that will be a year from when I purchased it.
Love my tablet.

Bricked My 6P, But Not Sure Why/how.. Any help is appreciated

I'm pretty lost on this one and after hours of searching, have not the slightly clue how (or if) to fix it...if it can even be fixed.
Past few days I've noticed the phone randomly rebooting, some of the times it says my battery is 0% when it's almost full. Today I went to go wipe it and reflash Pure Nexus. While wiping and flashing it, it ended up in a boot loop. I've tried everything to get the phone back up and running. I've tried attempting to flash different ROMs, the stock images (tried T and Q), doing a hard reset, factory reset. Literally everything under the sun that I know to do or have looked up.
Right now the most my phone will do is turn on, shows the Google screen, the reboots and repeats. Sometimes when the phone is off, I have to hold the power button for a minute or 2 to get it to turn on. Still, can only get in the bootloader, but can't get it to boot further than that.
Any help is appreciated, I'm at a loss on this one....and phoneless. :crying:
Pretty weird, if nothing works you should flash stock images, lock bootloader and RMA.

I also tried to lock the bootloader and re-unlock it, with no luck. Called Google and they weren't any help, least outside of what I've already tried. I'll be calling Huawei tomorrow when they open.
As of now, it seems when I unplug my phone, it just turns off. I plug it back in, it goes into bootloop (without me hitting power button). Sort of wondering now if the battery just took a dump?
The phone started acting funny every since I tried to Android N. I'm going to attempt to try flashing N again, just for kicks.
I found a USB charger at work. While not a fast charging one, it was enough to allow my phone to boot up. Apparently there is something wrong with the battery some how. When it booted up, it showed I still have 48% of battery left so I took it off the charger. About 5min after booting it shut down again. Now that it's on the charger again, it'll boot back up and now shows 1% of battery.
I can't figure out for the life of me what the deal is. Looking like I'll need to lock the bootloader and RMA it back for warranty and get a properly operating phone. I'm curious how quick this will happen to get a working phone? I'm up for an upgrade through Sprint, think at this point it's best to go get a new phone to use in the meantime since I have no old phones to use in the meantime. If Huawei gets me a new phone within 14 days I can take the new one back and rock on with Nexus. Kind of sucks, but just my luck.

That's exactly what you should do. Most probably the battery is dead or malfunctioning. Charge it with that spare charger for a few hours, then restore stock and lock the bootloader. Finally, turn it up for RMA.
I never had a single out-of-the-box issue with any of my 5 Nexus devices. I hope the replacement that you receive will be up to the satisfaction.

Thanks for the confidence. I'll do just as suggested and return it.
I'm up for an upgrade, although I have to do online so I don't have to pay an extra $30/month for a phone I'll sell after getting my 6P back. I hate sprint not letting me do it in the store, such a PITA. If I do online I can just get the discount and sign a 2yr contract which is fine with me. Any idea if they will ship a new phone so I'm not without a phone for week(s)?

Sorry, but I never had any experience with an international carrier like Sprint, so can't say. Someone here would be able to answer this better than me. :highfive:
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll call Huawei here in a few and start the process and find out. Fingers crossed they will ship a new phone, even with a temp hold on the money while I send this broken one back. I'll post what I find out, just in case anyone else is curious and searching for the answer.

Nexus 6p Won't Start (Suspected Hardware Failure)

My nexus 6p suddenly won't start, I've had my phone since May 2016 so more than a year now.
I've flashed a custom ROM onto it, I'm sure this isn't a software issue because it's been running fine since I bought it (and flashed it) and I followed all the instructions correctly.
I've read through this thread and tried the solutions there, hold the power button for longer than usual (a few minutes), hold the volume down button and power together, hold the volume down button then charge it, now hold the power button. I tried all 3 solutions which worked for many in that thread, but not me.
This all started 2 days ago, with no changes software-wise and using the same configuration as when I first flashed it, I opened the app HERE Maps and then my phone froze, totally stuck and unresponsive, restarting was no good, I had to go into TWRP and wipe the cache and dalvik cache, and it booted fine.
Today, same thing, I opened up HERE Maps and it got stuck again, I now notice that it takes longer than usual to start up via the power button, and wiping the cache and dalvik cache does not work anymore, it stucks on boot.
Now, my phone is not able to start at all. I think this is a hardware-related issue.
So quick recap:
1. Opened HERE Maps and gets frozen
2. Wiping cache and dalvik cache no longer works, stuck on boot.
3. Phone not able to start at all.
I am out of warranty period-wise, but I also custom it, so obviously my warranty is out the window. I need some insight from you guys here at XDA before I buy another costly phone.

You're probably correct. Since you are unlocked and have a working Recovery mode, you may be have some success with the 4 core fix/workaround. Have you attempted a factory reset? Formatted partitions and flashed a full ROM using the flash-all.bat script?

No, I really mean can't start it. Absolutely zero. I can't get it to boot, oddly enough it did work a few times until it doesn't respond at all.
How am I suppose to do anything software-related if there's no electricity? I have zero options, maybe there's something new I could try?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that my battery was 100% full charge when this happened. At this point I think either the battery suddenly died or the power button is broken

Can you access recovery or bootloader mode?
If within warranty, contact google/Huawei depending on where you purchased the phone from.
You could try telling google that your phone is bootlooping for a potential out of warranty RMA.

Is it recognized at all when you plug a data cable to your PC? Your phone may be stuck in Qualcomm's EDL mode. Search.
No recovery mode, no TWRP, not within warranty, plug in data cable into PC not detected (makes sense, it's not powered on after all)

If your phone is in EDL mode, there is no indication the phone is on. No boot, no lights, no noise (except from the PC when the USB driver loads). You may want to try several long power button only holds (several minutes) with the phone plugged into your PC. I suppose it is also possible the power switch is bad, but you would be the first I've heard of. Unless you bought your phone directly through Google you will get nowhere with them. They will direct you to Huawei and you said you were out of warranty.

Okay, this is helpful, you guys seems to think it is in EDL mode (which I haven't heard of until now), I'll try this and hopefully a driver loads or something
EDIT: nope, no drivers are loading, doesn't seem to be anything new in device manager, no device plug in sound, how sure are you that I'm in EDL mode?
It did work a few times yesterday (being able to boot into TWRP and wiping cache and dalvik cache), but now I'm not so lucky, it doesn't work anymore. I don't believe my phone is completely dead for some reason, I still do believe it can be saved. Hopefully I'm right :|
If I plan on buying a new phone, should I buy another 6p? I love the look and feel of it, and it's easy to mod. I can't really go and get another different phone because I prefer purenexus ROMs than any other, it's just simple and clean, problem is, what if another year from now my new 6p breaks? How can I trust that the new phone won't break the exact same way?
What if I end up buying a new 6p every 1 year or so? I'm starting to question the reliability of the 6p, is what I'm facing a very common issue?

I wouldn't recommend the nexus 6p. I would have a look at the latest pixel 2. They have project treble.
Your issue is different than most others. Most n6p with issues are bootlooping devices.
I have the same exact problem and have tried all sorts of fixes...
This is a serious problem most likely on Huawei's end. All I was doing was charging my phone and using facebook and my phone freezes...

As a last resort, I do plan to take it to a phone repair shop and see if they could do something, maybe the battery died? Unlikely but it's worth trying
I tried what was suggested here, plug the phone to a PC and see if a drivers loads or if detected by device manager, or if hearing connect/disconnect sound. Nothing, no signs. Anything else to try by myself?

Repairmen in China have been repairing nexus 5x and 6p by resoldering the cpu. I wish I knew a way to contact a reliable english speaking repair centre.
I was facing bootlooping problem with my Nexus 6P and bootloader was locked so was unable to flash ROM by any mean.
So I tried following few threads and did "fastboot continue" and my device is not showing any sign of power since then. When connected to PC then no USB connection is there.
Is there any suggestions that can solve issue?

Did you managed to solve it in the end or ended up RMAing the phone away and getting a new one?

No. Unfortunately this happened to me last month and ive had the phone for almost 2 years now. Its sad because others are having the same issue and I think the hardware is faulty
I just called up a local phone repair and they said from their experience of repairing nexus 6p phones, most (if not all) of them had dead motherboards. The technician told me to get a new model of a phone and skip the 6p as it is a poorly built phone.
I consider saving up for a pixel..

Ive heard of people baking motherboard on Nexus 5x and many other phones to reflow the solder.

Bricked beyond repair?

So. I have used the unbrick tool several times before because sometimes I want to go back to out of the box factory. Locked bootloader, the whole nine. Well, it failed, so I unplugged it to try again, and no matter what I do, I can't get my computer to recognize that it's connected to the computer. I've been trying the holding volume up while plugging it in while in test mode. Like I said, I've used it before. I made sure I had plenty of battery life before I tried it, so I know the battery isn't dead. Do I need to look into getting another phone, or has anyone had a phone brick this badly and know how to fix it.
Just to rule out the obvious, have you tried different cable and computer?

Yeah. I've tried both of my laptops. Works perfectly on both for my s8+, but won't register my OP5 at all. I plug it in and nothing even shows up in device manager on both laptops.

I'm not very familiar with windows, you could try booting a Ubuntu livecd and typing in a terminal: dmesg
Then plug in the phone.
see if you can find any reference to the device being connected within the kernel messages.
How did you brick your OP in the first place? Does it still charge?

It bricked in the middle of using the unbrick tool. It literally doesn't do anything. No charging, no vibrations. Nothing.

device descriptor read/64, error -32
That's the error I got. Problems with USB communication.
The fact it does not even charge sounds like a hardware issue. Even when its bricked it should at least charge.

This is an EPIPE error, this means the device is not answering the USB protocol requests and the pipe is broken.
In my experience this has always been due to a faulty cable, but in your case I'm afraid the device is juts not behaving as it should.
Next step would be to troubleshoot the hardware; This is not my area but maybe someone experienced can help out indicating what should be the next steps.
It may be that some small hardware parts could be replaced or the damage could be more severe.
Did you power down the phone then hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time to try and boot directly into recovery? If you can boot into recovery and have TWRP you could format the data on your phone using TWRP. That would erase everything on your phone except TWRP. Your computer would recognize your phone as an external hard drive and you could copy and paste a full ROM zip onto the phone memory and flash it with TWRP. If the tool you used installed the stock recovery I'm not sure what your options are but being able to boot into recovery would be a sign that your phone isn't actually hard bricked. Using automated tools to flash your phone is a really bad idea. It is much safer to flash manually.
I think there is close to zero chance that you have a hardware issue based on what you described. I've never heard of anyone hard bricking an OP5 so I think your phone is recoverable. If you can't figure it out a competent phone repair shop should be able to get you up and running again.
There's also One Plus tech support but if you try to get help from them I would probably just tell them your phone got borked after an update. If you tell them the entire circumstance they probably won't even try to help you.
Good luck.
Did you try holding power button for >40 seconds?

If it's totalled then one plus will have no idea what is wrong either, send it back mate.
After reviewing all the replies, which won't work for you.
Way back in 2016, I faced the same issue with my op3. My issue was fixed by one of my friend by detaching the battery and reinstall the battery so that the board can boot. If that doesn't work for you, then suggest you to please check the type c connector funtionality.

I sent it back. They said the main board needed to be replaced. They fixed it under warranty. Just picked the phone back up today.

Note 4 completely dead, eMMC issue?

I recently bought a "soft bricked" Note 4 (N910F, Snapdragon). Seller claimed a friend of his wanted to flash a custom ROM based on a newer Android version, however that failed and it only boots to Recovery and Download mode since. So he wanted to sell it since he's not experienced with phones. The listing actually shows a photo of the phone in download mode and one in recovery mode.
After I got the device, I plugged it in to charge the battery and to my surprise, nothing happens. No charge LED, no charge animation. I tried to get into recovery mode (volume up, home + power) and download mode (volume down, home + power), with USB cable attached and without, still nothing. If I plug it into my PC, it's recognised as Qualcomm HS-USB Loader. Suspecting the worst, I prepared a microSD with the debrick image on it. And sure enough, on the first try, the phone fires up into Odin mode. Interestingly, the bootloader is locked and Knox is not triggered. Which to me indicates that noone ever even attempted flashing a custom ROM, right?
Once in Odin mode, I tried flashing the stock ROM - it fails on the first step and the phone shows the dreaded "eMMC write fail: aboot". So I guess it encountered the well-known eMMC problem?
Since the seller refuses to take the phone back (despite the wrong description), I took on getting it to work myself. Sure enough, after a night in the freezer I could flash and boot a stock ROM before it stopped working. Another freeze to set it up, and a third one to install a wakelock app and set up a partial wakelock. That uses ~5% battery per hour, but the phone is still running after nearly a day.
Does that still fit to the eMMC issue? And since I have a T-962 IR reflow oven - do you think there is a chance to successfully reflow the board so that the phone can operate normally again?
Thanks a lot!
Bought on eBay?
Open a dispute claim as doesn't work as it's not working even in the way how was described on the listing.

Yeah, from eBay, But I can't open a claim since it only allowed payment with wire transfer so there's no buyer's protection. The seller also keeps being unreasonable, claims I don't know what I'm doing and broke it myself, after he sold it as "he doesn't know anything about it and can't flash a new ROM". I gave him negative feedback (and had his revenge feedback deleted by eBay) but that's all they can do for me.

That actually sounds good, do you have any experience with such a new board? Are they refurbished or "new old stock"? Do they keep working for at least some time?

there are a few sellers, of the same board, id read the reviews on each seller..worth a punt considering the price of the note 4 originally.
