is Call recording working on android 9? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I just ordered from OnePlus and cant wait.. : laugh:
Well since its comes with Android 9 and I saw about google disabling it, can anyone confirm if its working or not.
If not can rooting the phone make it work?
Thanks in advance.

No need to root, jOneplus (playstore app) works fine enabling native call recorder in OP6T, tested by myself.
You can also restore this setting after each reboot in the app, if not you will need to restore manually the call recording option.

Thanks for trying this out and the detail about enabeling call recording again if I reboot. This is great but I know I'll end up forgetting to enable the option sooner or later when I reboot. I'm glass to see that it is possible. Or use Tasker to enable it after every reboot. Oh but I need to be rooted to use Tasker.
Thanks again ,.

While I'm still on my older OnePlus phone until I get the 6T on Monday I can tell you the option is there to apply at boot.
Gear icon for settings, general, toggle "restore call recorder at boot."
Granted my current OP devices all have root but I'll try it rootless on the 6T. I'm actually going to try using the phone without root since my paid VPN does adblocking I'll just have to forego Viper4Android, Titanium Backup, and Substratum. We shall see how long that goes...

did it work for you?
I tried by using joneplus on op6T but didnt work.. the filesize are in 0B

I tried by using joneplus on op6T but didnt work. I was able to record but after the call when i checked the filesize, it is 0B and was not able to play because of acc format.
are you able to find the file size more than 0B? and able to play?

works fine just did the joneplus on 6T
called my wife it recorded fine
no root just jumpstart the application in ADB with
adb shell pm grant net.jroot3d.joneplustools android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS

[How to] Enable selection of 2G or 3G (NEED HELP)

I discovered this as I was following someone else instructions that didn't quite work and then messing up my phone to where my "com.android.phone" was failing but I was able to find the way for it to so I do not take full credit for this at all and if this has been known I do apologize. This mod does require root explorer (or similar app) and you need to be rooted.
1a. open root explorer and go to system/etc/motorola/com.android.phone/defaults.xml
1b. Long old "open in text editor" change "" to true
2a. Back out to root of phone then data/data/com.android.phone/shared_prefs and repeat step "1b" on "_has_set_default_values.xml" and " Settings.xml"
2b. Make a copy of " com.android.phone_preferences.xml" within that same folder
2c. Open copy file in text editor and repeat step "1b"
2d. Change file name of copy to " com.android.phone_preferences.xml.bak"
3a. Reboot phone
Now when you go into settings>wireless & networks>mobile networks you will be able to select whether you want 2G, 3G, or automatic which selects 4G. If anyone has trouble or anything PM me and I'd be more than happy to walk you through.
Oh and this should work on froyo and GB
*********************************
Looks like this does open the ability to select 2G or 3G selecting either or does nothing. I will continue to look into these files to see if I can make this work
*********************************
I got this far but now Im stuck. The selection can be made but the actual band change isn't occurring. If anyone much have some insight let me know and I'll update the OP.

Since the power control widget is a built in app this tweak unfortunately does not affect it. And since my knowledge is nowhere near a devs I wouldn't be able to make a rom with a widget that supports this mod.

How do I know if I'm really on 2G?
Hi, I have already changed its. But when I reboot the phone. All file in data/data/com.android.phone/shared_prefs are return to the original.
Can you suggest to me for solve this?
Thanks,
Sorry guys I just edited my instructions. You need to edit the .bak file for "com.android.phone_preferences.xml" because the system auto resets to the .bak file for this one so you're tricking it into reseting into the modded file

Thanks, I'll try it.

Once done correctly (instructions were w bit off sorry) you will be able to select 2G as seen in my screen shots

I too struggled a lot to find how to enable this and i installed navalynt's πCRUST v0.3 rom couple of days ago which had this feature enabled, so maybe it has been mentioned somewhere. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
It works on atrix 2.
Does this has permanent effect?
Thanks

[SOLVED] Secure Settings crashed error message

Hi I ran into this issue before but I forget how I fixed it. I thought it was from not having enough free space on internal/external SD cards but I cleaned it up a little and it didn't seem to fix it. I also tried force closing, clearing data/cache for app, uninstalling, reinstalled it, and activated as a device administrator successfully but it doesn't open/work with Tasker.

I had problems with SS when I was using the helper app. But after using Helper Alternative under the SS Helper Tab everything works as it should. I believe it installed SS as a system app so you don't need the Helper app.

Thanks for the response! It's fixed now by using ROM Toolbox Pro's app manager to convert it to a system app and then had to restart the phone
Had to do it before after restoring from a backup and it just slipped my mind
No need to use Ron Toolbox. Just go to the SS app, go to the helper tab and click Alternative Helper. SS will do the rest.

Yeah but Secure Settings couldn't even launch...when selecting it via app drawer it just flashed/disappeared right back to the home screen with the crash notification

Oh! Missed that part. Let us know if installing it as system app works then.
Edit: See that it solved it. Good
I tried all the above solutions and still not fixed, Secure Settings keeps crashing before start.

Dialer codes not working any more, due to root?

Rooted my S7E, and just noticed that the common Samsung dialer codes (as *#0*# or even *#06#) do no longer work!
When I enter them into the dialer nothing happens! I used them successfully before!
Only change is that I installed TWRP, root and Viper!
Do dialer codes work on your phone after root?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes, it works for me.
That's very strange. Root shouldn't affect those codes as they are generic for all devices.

Depends on the rom I find. Echoerom working good for me.

Thx for the replies!
For me this is also strange, I can't remember that this was the case anytime before I rooted an android device!
Anyone else with this problem?

Did you perhaps install the Google Phone application? I installed it and can't use dialer codes with it. If I switch back to the stock Samsung Phone application it works again.

I had this problem once. Factory reset did the trick for me
Solution to failed dialler codes
Boot into recovery using vol up+home button + power button. Then wipe cache in the recovery and reboot.I hope that solves it.
S7 Edge G935V
Yes My husband replaced the stock Rom on my rooted S7 G935v and the codes didn't work afterwards
maybe the feature was turned off during the root process. use a file browser with root permissions and navigate to the lowest level and go to-- /efs/carrier --then long press hidden menu and open it with a text editor. Using capital letters just change the OFF to ON then save it, reboot and try your codes again. :highfive:

I can't find the folder /carrier
Same thing here
try using the search feature in file browser. make sure it has root access with permissions granted.

I see that. Do you use the stock rom? See if you have the actual apk file in your system apps
if you don't have the apk file I think I can send mine. I'm pretty sure if you manually inset the apk in the system folder and change the permissions to match what the other apps in the folder have it should work. I mean you may have to create a couple other files though like the carrier folder and the document in it.

6. Open Security app->Permission->Root access-> Tab to enable Rom Toolbox Lite .( A msg asks 4 times for Next and finally accept <<each takes 5 seconds>>)
7. Open Rom Toolbox Lite ->App Manager -> Find Mi app store and Tab on it ->Tab Freeze
8. Go to Setting-> Installed Apps-> All->Find Mi app store and Tab on it ->Tab Uninstall
9. Open Security App->Permissions->Autostart->Find and Tab on Google Play Store-> Enable Allow Apps to Start automatically and Allow the App to be started by other apps. (Other Apps will address and call Only Google Play Store For Installing another Apps)
Now your Google Play Store is as Default app Store automatically Due to there is no another App Store.
Enjoy !

Yeah, that's annoying. If you need to access preferences, you can just click on the Problems? button in the lower right corner and then select Preferences. If you really need to access the menu I suggest downloading Button Mapper from Play Store. Just keep in mind that some functions require you to buy the full version.
I had the same problem, I solved it by using Xposed mod called "3dot Mod" which forces the Menu button like this:

I'll try this one out. but IMO If it's remapper, it won't work I think. The reason is that even GravityBox's own remapper doesn't work, I've tried remap long-press action to "menu" option in GravityBox, but it just activate the "multitask recent"

Same situation. Tap on 'problems' and select preferences. This is a good workaround
