LG v20 verizon update 20B force close my apps - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi I have a question so the b20 update has my Facebook gallery and kik and Instagram forceclosing when when I open galleryin apps.. I updated the phone Wednesday, everything was working fine until Friday my phone died so I put it on the charger and I turned it on and I came back to it and it said "your phone is successfully updated"! I was like hmmmm then I realize I try to comment a pic in a comment but the facebook gallery said no video or photo in gallery ,same with Instagram and kik etc.. I was curious if it had a update but got interrupted when it died and I did not realize it had a update... What can I do to fix this? I went to apps in settings and force stop and clear cache and reboot. Then I went into recovery and wipe cache and still nothing.. My phone isnt rooted, it is bone stock. I was on 20A in September now Oct I'm on 20B that's been causing problems. My last opt options is to back up everything and factory restore it but yet still not sure if it will fix my problem.

update on stock rooted

I am on stock rooted MK2 with TWRP recovery installed. I woke up this morning to see that my phone had automatically downloaded the new system sfotware(i assume 4.4.2). The notification cant be removed from the notification bar and just says click to install. i dont want 4.4.2. My wife updated her s4 and it caused all sorts of minor issues with it. She was not rooted however. How can I get rid of the downloaded update and the notification? Also, is there a setting I can change so it wont try to automatically download updates in the future?
thanks

Im sure I will be needing the same information as I am still on 4.3 and want to stay here also, I can tell you I had the same thing with my Galaxy S2 and I remember I had to do something in Titanium backup to stop the update process, but I cant remember the exact steps.
I will be watching this thread closely, Thanks for asking the question!
Search fellas. On the notification . press and hold it. Then you should get a popup of "app info" select it and uncheck "show notification". This will get rid of the annoying update notifications. You can also delete the file from system although I am forgetting right now where.

Did that and deleted the file! It downloads it back and the notifications resurrects again.
I froze Configupdater, Sprint Installer, System Update
Disabled System Update on start up.
Dunno what else can stop this OTA notification!!
For me it's even more dangerous because I have the 720T running sacs for 720, hence the update that the system is trying to intsall is the NAE not NAF.
To be on safe side I'm thinking unroot and get to stock MK5 then upgrade to NAF then flash sacs again. This way the update notification will go away. Tedious but thats the only way I think I can get rid of this annoying notification.
Any thoughts?? Keep in mind I'm on 720T

interesting... I had recently ODIN'd back to stock and saferoot'd before calling it a day and woke up in the morning to an update. I also know that the update only downloads if you're on wi-fi. I know before I ODIN'd I was already saferoot'd with a whole bunch of crapware "frozen" by TiBackup and I never got the update. not exactly sure which crapware I froze, but I did it again this time around and I still haven't seen an update message for the past week. below is a list of what I froze... if you have the time to weed out the exact crapware needed to disable the update, please let me know! would be nice to uninstall the crapware that wont affect the update from happening while cleaning up the rest of the crapware.

looks like the inevitable just happened... with all the above items turned off/frozen, I still got the OTA download last night! I'm rooted with the hotspot mod and despite all of that, the OTA still came through. the update is located in /cache.

Indeed! I gave up on OTA block. The only way I can think of if you stop all framework notifications, but I dont want to do that. Got to NAF and CF rooted. Waiting for stable KK before trying it on 720T. I don't care for sparks.
As of last night I hadn't received the OTA update yet, so I decided to try to fend it off buy freezing the system update in titanium backup... I swear I'm at 10 minutes went by and I can I receive the OTA notification! So now it looks like I'm in the same boat right next to you...lol
As I said earlier back in my S2 days I remember having to freeze the "System Update" with Titanium, but I think I also remember having to boot into recovery and Wipe a cache or something, because something is placed in the cache that looks to see if the update was downloaded and installed, and if not just keeps downloading until it is. So the steps that I do remember are;
1) Freeze system update with titanium.
2) Delete downloaded system files (I'm not sure where they are located, so please help me out with this one)
3) Boot into recovery and wipe a cache or two (I can't recall if it was one or more then one, and/or which one) so maybe someone could help with that?
I am going to do some searching for the S2 instructions to see if I can find them, maybe they will help with this.... Not sure if the update process is still the same though.

as I stated in my last post, the downloaded update file is located in /cache. for the time being I've deleted that file and created a zero-byte file with the same name and its permissions set to read only. not sure what's going to happen if I try to update with an empty file or if I reboot, but I have it this way to hopefukky assure me that if I accidentally press update that it won't update successfully. I doubt cleaning up the OTA downloads will prevent it from downloading again unless you can somehow fake your version number.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea! But I can't believe there isn't a fix for this out there though. In my research I found a file for the S2 called fota-killer, you would think something like that wild be available for the S4.

I used the manual method rather then installing the zip thru recovery because they said the zip method is device specific..... I'll stop back in a couple days to update how it's working or b4 that if it doesn't!

Verizon G3 VS985 update not asking to download

I didnt see a thread already but my G3 started downloading an update this morning without me accepting or saying anything at all. Obviously with Root and TWRP(Bump) I did not want this. I pulled down the notification bar long pressed on the update download, hit app info, then force stopped the app. I went into Titanium backup, made a backup of System Updates 1_13_10_0 then uninstalled it. I don't know if the download will come back but I don't think so. Also the update was 220ish MB and I have no issues with the phone after uninstalling this. Sorry I didnt get a chance to take a picture of the update since it was almost done lol.
System Updates Frozen
I have the System Updates App frozen in Ti BU. Haven't gotten any hint of an update and I hope it stays that way.
Same thing happened to me it tried installing the update all on its own luckily it said waiting for wifi network to update so I froze the system updates app with titanium back up.
RyanEJ25, I experienced the same thing as you. I have a Verizon LG G3 (vs985), rooted.
Trying to get more info on this system update and what it contains. I don't think it's Android 5.0 lollipop update, but more like a Verizon bug update/improvements.
I tried to run the system update that was downloaded via WIFI, but it failed due to my LG g3 being rooted.
Before I go down the path of backing everything, unrooting and upgrading and then re-rooting, just wanted to make sure the update is worthwhile.

The main thing that threw me off was that USB charge modes have changed. Charge and internet connection are removed from PC connections other than that its general improvements to the keyboard and docs and stuff.
You can temp unroot, take the update, then reroot assuming Verizon didn't load a bullet that kills root.
Voodoo OTA Root Keeper
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
I'd tend to avoid the update, at least for now, if you want to keep root and twrp. Seems to be a number of people mentioning issues, including trouble reverting to 10b.
I also froze "System updates" with TiBU, going to stay on 10b until things clear up. Freezing that app seems to do the trick.
Why are you posting here, instead of the Verizon forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general
If you take the update, you can't re-root and you can't roll back.
Some people have maintained root after updating.

[Q] Random app crashes on Lollipop (OA8)

I upgraded my VZW S5 from 4.4 (NK2) to muniz's stock, rooted 5.0 (OA8), with the wifi tether hack. Ever since the upgrade, some apps will randomly crash - I can recall contacts, Pandora, and the March Madness apps all giving me the "Unfortunately, XXXX has stopped" popup.
I wanted to know if anyone else has had these issues, and if this is a known issue w/ OA8. For Pandora and the March madness App, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall. I have also tried to clear data on the apps that have crashed, and have tried to perform a battery pull. Unfortunately, these methods don't seem to resolve the issue.
If anyone else has experienced these issues, and/or has a potential fix for these random crashes, it would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping that i don't have to reflash everything, but it's more important to me that I get my phone working without these random crashes.

Did you wipe everything but your SD card before install and do a factory reset after, then flash the OA8 kernel? Also, sometimes, if you go into application settings, force stop, clear data and start again, it will help... this has been an issue with contacts, but the cleared data will clear it up.
When going from NK2 to OA8, don't restore programs, since OA8 ART is so different. Just reinstall the programs and allow Google to restore your data.

Yes - I did a full wipe and did not restore any programs. I also tried the force stop/clear data method that you mentioned but the random FC's kept coming back.
I'm back on 4.4.4 (NK2) and, thus far, no issues w/ the FC's.

[Q] New Google photo's app crashes on startup

So far I've yet to get this new version to work with the fancy new backup and organization features that just came out. When I first installed it would just crash immediately when trying to boot. What I've now tried is Force Stopping and clearing cache and data. This gets me into the "intro" screen, but as soon as I hit 'get started' It just crashes. Any ideas what's going on? I just updated to 5.1.1, had issue on 5.1.0 a well. I am rooted.
:highfive:
Tried force stop and clearing data and cache for both the camera and photo's app. Then tried rebooting and opening camera (worked fine) then photo's (crashed as usual). Tried doing it again but opening photo's first, still crashed on the screen where it looks like you turn backup on or off. I think there is a backup issue. I had auto backup off for photo's previously by the way.

Nougat Issues

I just reverted to T-Mobile firmware so I could upgrade to 7.0, since then I've noticed some issues.
I can't use my photos to change my wallpaper, or for the AID.
I can't go to the settings for the camera.
I've had some screen freezing when trying to change the notifications.
Has anyone else had similar issues, or are there other problems I should look out for?

My wife's phone is stock and I took the OTA for 7.0. I checked the camera settings and they are fine.
I'm wondering if you might need to flash the update again. If you do, you should wipe davlik and cache to make sure nothing got left behind.

I'd hate to do everything over again. I can't imagine how I screwed up either. I ODINed the T-Mobile files, and when the phone restarted, it updated to 7.0 automatically.

When I checked smart switch, it didn't have an upgrade listed. But the phone did. This tells me that it was a TMO update. Since you flashed tmo files, I'm assuming the ones listed in T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion, it should have taken. OTA is considered a dirty flash in that it doesn't wipe everything. Flashing with odin wipes everything. I'm just wondering if it didn't wipe everything the way it should.
The other possibility is after you updated, you loaded something that nougat doesn't like. If you do reflash, once it is done, do the bare minimum setup. Then try the items you listed that were a problem. If everything works ok, then you know it is something that got installed after the update. During the initial setup process, I never allow it to restore from another device, or samsung account. I get it setup as a new phone and then reboot. See how everything is working, then use smart switch to restore. If anything is missing, I go to the play store and download. Yes, it's a pain, but I've never had any issues.

I should have asked, have you rebooted since the update? There were some things like wifi calling and video calling that were missing after the OTA update. On reboot, it was all back. Try a reboot first. If things still aren't working, reflash.
If you previously backed up your apps and docs and images, etc., with smart switch before the update, then use that one when you restore.
Be sure though that after you do the odin flash, do a minimal setup. Then reboot. Then check everything out. If it is all good, do the restore from smart switch.
Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Will do, thank you.
The keyboard is what has me the most annoyed, it is not as good as it was in Marshmallow. I have the Auto Predictive text Auto replace languages English, and Spanish. Back on Marshmallow, there was no need to switch between languages, you just had to type in either one, and the keyboard itself would switch automatically. And on Nougat, that doesn't happen anymore. I loved that feature on MM. Does anyone else have that problem? is there a way to install the MM Samsung keyboard on Nougat? or is there a solution?

Awesome!
Seriously all I'm waiting for is the Note 8
Should have posted this here... (oh well)
Has anyone else with generic quick charge 2.0 car chargers notice they are not "quick charging" anymore since the nougat upgrade?
I've got a couple of generic ones from ebay in my cars and they worked on the S7E using MM and still work on the note 4. But on the S7E after N7.0 update they aren't quick charging, they are just charging. (does that make sense?)
