Athena Development/Progress

Hi All.
Just to keep things in perspective, can we use this thread from here on out to report successes and failures of all development or progress with regards to:
CID Unlocking
Free Sim Unlocking
ROMs cooked or official
...and any other developments relating to the project.
Once enough positive results have been posted, we can ask Midget_1990 or another moderator to move this thread to 'Upgrades', but for now, I think more people visit this forum, which will give our project some more exposure for ideas and most importantly....Donations!
To donate to the development of the Athena Project and know what where your money is going please read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311651
Please post ideas for the project here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311433
Let's keep this thread for technical matters. Thanks for your support and help.
Copied post to here...hope you don't mind hdubli.

What is reqd is someone..or our Dear POF, make a or modify the bootloader which will make our devices Super CID and and will allow the unsigned Rom code to flash.Since the Chipsets of Hermes and Athena are same, so I hv tried lots of tools, was also on the verge of bricking my SPL, but could not make it Super CID yet.
I thought I shd share this, since topic is started.

Friends of Athena.....how corny! ROFL.
All, we're glad to announce that Midget_1990 has accepted our offer and will be the first of 2 developers who will be working on the Athena for the solutions outlined in previous posts/threads etc.
Please don't bombard with pressurized questions like 'when will it be ready' and so forth. He and another developer (not yet chosen one yet - what say you all?) will keep us updated directly, which means all contributors on the mailing list will know as soon as we do, but the rest of the forum will be informed ONLY when we have something concrete to share.
No one is going to be holding out on you because you didn't or couldn't contribute financially or otherwise, we just have an obligation to those of you who have done so. We're talking probably same or next day notification to the forum if/when we have any solution that can be applied by all owners of the Athena, regardless of which variant it is, but ultimately that is not up to me, but the developers as they may breakthrough's for one device before being able to test it on another.
Also, closer to the time of a finished ROM, we could do with some brave souls who will do some testing for the rest of us. I'll be doing it too, so you won't be alone.
If you're interested PM me, apphoen or amongst yourselves and decide who will do it and post the finished list back in this thread please, so we know in advance who is on-board.
Thanks for all your support guys and gals. We all appreciate this community spirit and effort.

@All other contributors, please be patient apphoen is snoed under right now with his regular job, but will be sweeping this thread when he gets the time and will update the mailing list as soon as he can.
Don't fret if you have not heard anything yet via e-mail. That's why I'm keeping everyone informed until all is up and running.
Meanwhile the collection is going well and I am liaising with our mystery member to secure the devices. Just waiting on exact purchase prices and shipping costs etc.

So sorry about the long delay friends. Been inundated with PM's and the like.
Check your e-mails for a detailed update. Hope it got to?!?!
If you receive nothing within 15 minutes, I'll contact apphoen to see what I did wrong.
Don't worry I have a copy of it, so you'll definately get it today.

Developer Team complete...Welcome Jasjamming.
Friends...we're pleased to announce that we now have Mr BlackShadow Jasjamming on board.
We all know how beautiful his black ROMs are, don't we? So I won't spend any more time justifying this decision. I think I speak for everyone when I say 'Welcome aboard JJ we're glad to have ya.'
Now we have 2 excellent developers on our project, all we need now is more money to get the devices, so the party can begin.
I must stress that neither developer is doing this for monetary or device gain, but for the love it.
Midget_1990 was the only developer to actively take part in our forums and Jasjamming offered his help too as soon as he heard of our plight and offered his help FOC.
Having said that neither one of our developers would get very far without an Athena, so thanks to all the members that have contributed verbally/writing and of course our donators as this is what we are gunning for, 2 Athena's for our developers and some time for them to get acquainted with these devices, so I'll only say this one last time and won't mention it again.
Please don't pressure them, they will do what they can for us, but they need to work for a living too.
If we can gently remind any newcomers who may have missed these last few posts, then the community will be helping itself.
I has sent the e-mail to all the contributors via the mailing list, but obviously got something muddled up. It has more info on how things are developing.
Look out for an announcement from our webmaster boinger66 who has hosted and designed a beautiful website for further resources, info/downloads and hacks in the future, just for all variants of the Athena.
Nothing will be taken away from xda devs, only to complement it from the Athena development point of view, by having easily accessible info and software.
If anyone is not happy with where this is going, please say so. Don't forget it's non-profit and for the good of the Athena community.
Wow! Well done, looks like we've got some great people on our side now! I've been a member of this forum for some time now and every now and again people get together and someone organises something cool and community based like this. Jasjamming is the ultimate master chef- I used his Black ROMs on my Hermes and they were superb! Hopefully we can get somewhere with the CID unlock or Hard-SPL so that we can use customised ROMS!
Brilliant work so far guys!

I agree.
jasjammings black3 and 4 are ****ing fast, way faster than the other wm6 hermes Roms. i don't know how he did it and what his secret is but i can't wait for midget_1990 and jasjamming working on the athena.
thx for this project.
You're gonna hate me now...
After such a lovely announcement earlier, I have to sadly be the bearer of bad news....we've got to let Jasjamming go. I've PM'd and e-mailed him about this. Maybe he can cook up some seewt ROMs for us in the future. But right now after careful consideration I think it in the best interest of the development to prioritize our immediate needs rather than wants.
We have Midget_1990 as our chief ROM cooker and his experience/expertise in VGA ROM cooking cannot be ignored...our devices are also VGA ROM based, so having him on board is a necessary forgone conclusion.
I first approached Olipro last night, because he's **** hot on bootloader/low level stuff, just what we need to get our devices CID/SuperCID and Sim unlocked! I was impatient for his reply, and when I saw Jasjamming offering his help, I jumped at the chance fearing we wouldn't get another developer soon, but knowing that his specialty is also ROM cooking, but not VGA.
So...when Olipro got back to me with a positive 'I'm up for it', I couldn't say 'no' as he is exactly what this projects needs too. So he's now officially on-board. Welcome Olipro and sorry to announce your joining us under these circumstances.
I take full responsibility for the hasty decision, but I was just on a mission for the community and wanted any top developer out there without remembering what this project really needs.
We need the team we have now. Hope you're all still with me on this. Let me know if you disagree, but please remember...without CID unlock were screwed anyway as Jasjamming honestly admitted to me was not his forte.
So unless there are serious objections from the contributors, it's full steam ahead with our chief VGA ROM cooker and chief low level coder.
Sorry about the tacky titles.lol but you all know what I mean.
* Some nice member has donated 300 euros to the project. Many thanks to you from all of us.
Apphoen will e-mail us with a =n updated figure by tomorrow morning. There are a few niggling problems with the server, but rest assured we got some professionals on board that really makes our donations worthwhile.
Bad news. Our mystery member has not yet come through with the info we need to purchase an Athena. So as a contingency plan we have to donate more, but I think we almost have enough for the first device even at the dear prices they currently are.
I'll talk to Inkino tomorrow in Tottenham court Road and see if they can do anything for us as we want 2, but don't hold your breath...business is business.
Last but not least for tonight (I'm ending my 11 hour shift now)...I'll recap on who one might need to talk to, even as non benefactors as you're still beneficiaries.
Questions or help offered about:
Website development - PM boinger66 [Webmaster]
Coordination - PM Itxda or myself
Accounts - PM apphoen
Development on Athena - Midget_1990 & Olipro
or PM amongst yourselves and tell us what you want. We're not separate from you, just members like you gunning for the common goal of fully unlocking our devices so we can flash the WM6 ROMs of our choice.
That was yet another long post. Sorry peeps, but the contributors deserve the right to know where their money is going and the rest of you is us anyway, so you will be kept in the loop...just not as soon.

would it be cheaper if brought on a contract?
£119 on FlexT Web 'n' Walk 35 in store. If someone needed a contract coincidentally. But then if they nuke the phone, they have to go through T-Mobile to get another one...
They may be cheaper now as the web prices are reducing.
Yup - I also think it was a good call on the dev front - ROMs won't be any good if we can't get them onto the device in the first place... and while I like IMEI-Check, I can't see the point of organizing a mass-shipment of devices their way.
Having said that, I for one am willing to do another round of funding once we get started to get another dev on board... but we might even have to do that anyway to get another machine if we don't get a break on the price...
Al is not lost....
All is not lost yet my friends. Our mystery member and some of us have been in discussion and it looks like we might be getting the first device some time next week, but we'll keep you informed when it's concrete.

Take care of the chefs / contributors

Dear All,
I have seen this in the about xda forum. But it appears that most of the Gene users don't read any other thread apart from the Gene upgarding etc. forum.
You might want to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539407.
Its high time you take care of your chefs, trust me if you don't, the only one to lose will be you not the chef(s).
I can tell two instances:
1. krazy had a really bad personal problem (his accomodation), but most did not read it or did not care to worry about it, instead continued their demands.
2. ankit360 has not recieved a single donation till date! can you believe it.
I do not say that donating is mandatory, but c'mon guys, you are getting so many great stuffs from the chefs / geeks in this forum.
To be blunt with you, where is the gratitude????
[And if you say you can't afford, c'mon - you are not using a Nokia 1110i, you are using a 10K mobile]
Sorry if I sound rude.
Dear Addicted, i really feel for you man in my heart. You think so much about us, and this forum and its members in general. I am glad we have you in this forum
ANKIT AND SUMIT deserves it!!

And I am lucky to have you .
Otherwise I would have sold my Gene and gone to some other forum (HTC of course).
@deathgame:
And so does each and every fab members of this forum, always remember:
1. Ramersonw first got us hooked to cooking and created the method for determining old / new Gene.
2. vaibhav created an automatic gene verifier (poor guy, doesn't even get thank you's !!!).
3. BesFen: Made cooking a walk in the park.
4. Zelalat: He was the one who ported a M2D ROM for new Gene (If I am not wrong). Lomlom was the cooker of the original.
[WOW MY HISTORY IS GOOD ]
And of course guys like you, karan and all the cooks, who has kept this forum one of the most happening device forum around.
Hope users start appreciating your efforts rather than demanding .
We should definitely take care of our chefs and one more thing we should also take care of olipro & orefkov bcs its because of them all the fun we are having nowadays.....Sumit, Ankit, Ramersonv, Basha, Lomlom, A2X, Nirvana, Bepe....(Sorry if i forgot someone) they all have done a remarkable job in GENE section....
BTW 1 day while chatting with Sumit I offered him technical support for his Pc/ Lappy as i m a hardware eng.
I m gonna donate Sumit N Ankit and wish to donate to olipro too but unfortunately i don hv a credit card

Thtat's really great (but I honestly don't think that I should be mentioned with the pple you have named).
I also wanted to donate to ramersonw and to be frank, before every one to xda, but I also don't have a credit card.
I would request all pple who care about this forum to bump up this thread once in a while. As you can see, I do not have my TD yet (and hence visiting this forum regularly), but once I got it, my visits will ultimately be next to nil.
Thank you,
You folks are really fabulous, and that include YOU!
EDIT:
To be blunt, do you notice how many pple feel like us (even in the original thread).
BTW @everyone, you do not need to donate to show your appreciation. A praise, being less demanding is good enough (perhaps). Understand that these guys have a personal and professional life and they honestly don't OWE US ANYTHING. They are sharing their knowledge and creations with us because they are generous enough to do so. So appreciate it and ACKNOWLEDGE it.

BTW there should be THANK YOU button
@All the chefs
Folks, have you checked this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557152

Please read this Deca and other admins

I hope that this gets some attention and maybe changes some minds. I think we've been having more fighting than sharing in this forum lately when it comes to development and to be honest with you it's making me sick. The audacity of some to claim that since they found something that works that it somehow negates the fact that it's open source is not only ridiculous but harmful to the community. Everyone in here owes everything that they know to someone else. That's a fact. Period. Why you feel you have the right now to be compensated for your ability to read is beyond me. I've been here since my touch pro. I've never asked for a dollar from anyone. I help people as often as I can both, on here and outside of xda and never EVER ask for anything in return other than knowledge. Lately even asking for knowledge prompts a request for a "donation". This may come as a shock to you people but that is NOT a donation!!! That's a paid service!!! Do you give drach a percentage of that since NONE of you would be anything without him? Of course not.
So what's my point? I'm suggesting that we start punishing those who beg for donations by removing the PRIVILEGE (yes it is a privilege) of allowing them to post donation links. Secondly, anyone who does nothing but complain should be removed from xda. I know these are extreme requests but this is an extreme problem. 9 times out of 10 a thread either starts or ends because of these issues. It's getting ridiculous. Please take these suggestions in to consideration. This is damaging the community in a huge way and personally I'm sick of it. I don't want this to be an argument thread. We all know what specific instances I'm talking about so there's no need to bring up the problems. I'm only interested in finding a solution. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely James.

THANK YOU! If I only I was educated enough in writing like that, that is exactly my thoughts! THANK YOU!
As for the donations, like in my signature, after I post this about 5 seconds from now it'll be gone. All I want is to be educated. In fact for those of you who know I breakdance (*cough* *cough* my avatar pictuer *cough*) my breakdance name is even BBOY KNOWLEDGE! Ask anyone who knows me in the dance world they'll tell you I want nothing but to be educated in knowledgable in all areas of the world that interest me, use that knowledge to help, and educate others as much as I can. That is all I stand for. THE ABOVE POST IS PURE AWESOME-NESS DUDE
- Kifno
I agree that there is a difference between a donation and and a paid service...please report any posts or instances when that line gets blurry or if someone is all out selling their work here...we will take care of it.
With so many new devices it brings so many new people to XDA and our job (yours and mine) is to educate them about what XDA is all about. I have moved this thread to general and read your comments. Please report such posts so we can take care of problems.

I disagree, the devs like $, it's motivating, and I'm sure it feels better than a thanks. Now, me personally, I got over 2000 posts and 200 thanks BEFORE putting a donate above my name. I have never and will never ASK for a donation, since I don't "dev". BUT obviously I help lots of people, so if someone felt inclined to push the button, I won't argue. It is entirely likely that I would simply donate it back to xda, since I beleive they deserve the $ more than me, and few dollars will not affect my life. Some users may find it more comforting knowing they are donating directly to a person who has provided them either a developed item (ROM,theme, etc) or help - publicly or via PM. It is for that reason I intend to keep my donate button. It takes more care to donate than it does to say thanks. I have given many thanks, but I have also donated north of $150 to devs and xda. I think that if used properly and NOT abused, donations are a vital and necessary part of this community.

I agree. There is a HUGE difference between being given a donation out the appreciating and kindness of a person's heart for the developer's/theme-er's/person who helped them's work (is them's even corrrect lol ) and asking for a donation/begging to be paid for their service. But in truth even when I have recieved a donation in the past I take that as "oh they like what I did I guess I should keep it up, NO!!! YOU MUST DO BETTER KIFNO YOU FOOL! NOW GET ON YOUR LAPTOP AND GET FUNKY AND SHOW EM' WHAT CHA GOT DUDE! ". Kifno, whatever you're on, you need to share it.
But seriously, I agree. Donations are a way for people to show their appreciation to a dev besides a click of a thanks button. They are to be given freely, not begged or asked for, and when you receive a donation, an appreciative pm should be sent.

Take a moment and Thanks our notorious Devs.

I just got my tab and I tell you im reallyimpressed to see so much development on this device & all the credit goes to our selfless, hardworking Devs. So I request ya'all to take a moment and thank all our Devs.
Thanks so much guys you are amazing. Keep up the great work.
Thank them with a money contribution.
I want to big-up Oldmacnut (aka Jim, aka Mr Stink Finger)
Not everyone can afford to contribute. That's why its a donation and not a charge...
It's nice if you can, the devs still have bills to pay too but sometimes it's just not possible to scrape together any cash (been there, done that)...
It's good to acknowledge them and thank them though if you can't afford to donate, makes them feel appreciated, after all they are sharing the efforts of their labours (which they would've still done anyway - the work not the sharing) with all us poor Android programming illiterates out here who have no technical knowledge or no idea where to begin.
Of course, showing written gratitude is important, but check download stats - contributions-to-download is one-to-thousands.
And really, this device is a luxury item. So anyone using the tab with custom roms isn't in a dire financial situation.
same here, just got my first android tab and its amazing!!
Tks to Task650's rom, its so smooth!
I wish I could tks him but I still need more posts
Thanks to the notorious Developers
Hi guys, I'm such a noob and have trolled the site for a few months to now realize that I should show some gratitude for all the good work you guys have done.
Love the noob video btw!
I have a Galaxy Tab, upgraded it with Gingerbread it's fantastic.
Thanks, Hans
I´m using custom ROM (Overcome Kratos) since de first moment i bought (ebay) my used P-1000. I can´t ask questions (don´t want to disturb using pm) and i still have some issues to make the GT run smoother. I owe "thanks" to the developer and, why not donation, as soon as the forum give me rights to post and get help.
yeah give thanks and donate.
Donated and thanked oldmacnut for his work on the cdma tabs, his roms are great

While choosing a brand new phone for christmas, looking at all of those shiny specs, cpu, ram, gpu, screen size, battery, I also always check one aspect of the phone. What is , for me, a major selling point of the device - XDA device forums. How much roms, how much do devs build for the phone. I was so thankful for you, Meticulus, for CM 13, and then you blasted us all away with Lineage OS - I could never been happier with such great news. However, today, I was REALLY upset when I saw that you are closing the develoapment.. And just because some stupid people who dont even own the phone reply to the thread begging for a port.. However I also understand why you are doing this. I know it feels like **** when you are doing it for free and then people are ****ting on you. Thank you Meticulus, for your hard work.
And thanks community for ruining everything

Development is not stopping. I am still developing but just for the people who know that the work has value. Some feel they need to aggravate me even though they are getting something for free. The feel entitled to a perfect ROM even though, there is no source-code for this device. Working on the ROM is difficult enough without having to endure ridiculousness and the random disorder that comes from n00bs dropping in to criticize but not leaving an information that could contribute to fixing issues. I find that people who voluntarily donate, especially when they don't have to, understand ( without being told ) that the work has value. So I would rather make ROMs for just them. I know they appreciate the effort, even if the ROM is not perfect.
Buy me a coffee and then join me...

It is against XDA Rules to solicit donations in exchange for anything...especially development.
What is being discussed here is a grave breach in that rule:
8. Donations.
As a user, you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work, however donations up front are not allowed. This forum is about sharing and not about getting paid to do something... that is what your job is for.
I would advise all further talk of this cease immediately.
Thank you for your understanding
