App Idea: light sensor decides to turn the screen on or not for incoming call/sms

An idea i just had:
Its unpractical to accidently accept calls or do stuff on the touchscreen after a SMS while the phone is in the pocket.
But its nice to see who is calling or reading the SMS with out having to turn the screen on before.
So why not use the light sensor, pockets are usually dark. So the software would run in background on an incoming SMS or CALL event it would first check the light sensor, if its dark, dont turn on the screen just start the ringtone sounds. If the environment is bright, just display the caller or SMS right away.
Additional features would be:
- beeing able define the values when to turn on or not
- optional auto screen turn on if it gets brighter (taking the phone out of the pocket), this should only work if there is still someone calling, or a SMS was received in the last 20 (or so) seconds
- program should only read the light sensor on an incoming event to save energy
- optional it could read the light sensor all the time and auto turn on the display everytime it comes out of the pocket, some people might want that
Only problem is, has anyone been able to access the X1 light sensor before? There are programs for the lightsensors of other HTC devices, but the X1 sensors seems diffrent.
A more simple version of this program could simply check the light values every 5 min (or self difineable interval) and set the registry settings for wakeuponcall or wakeuponsms.

Mastermind Of Making CAB / Software Here Is A Request For You

Well...I would love to see a software where we can have Blinking white LED signal light on the round scroll panel. Unlike HTC TOUCH where they have blinking green led to show that phone is recieving signals, there is no such thing in Diamond. LED flashes only on unread sms, missed calls , incoming calls and on charging the phone. But there is no blinking light for signals. If somebody would make it , that would be great as i love that white light around the ring scroll.
So if any mastermind in making CAB please bring out something like this.
Regards,
Vishal

display light when missed calls!

I have missed the phone call or message, the message light on the display screen is a green.I want missed calls or messages is red color, I must do? thank all!

something i just noticed about the screen....

just noticed this today, but whenever i receive a text message (sms/mms) the screen doesnt turn itself on. I hear the bell notification and see the trackball light up but the screen still stays on standby mode. Is this normal?
Im used to the iphone turning the screen on its own whenver i get a text message.
Nope, this is normal on all Android phones. Download SMS popup if you want a feature such as this. Quite irritating if you ask me, kinda a battery waster I would assume.
This is why Android phones usually have LEDs, or a trackball. For notifications
Doesn't Handcent SMS have this feature too..
Ok thank you! Its just was never around my phone or actually looking at it when i receive text messages. but for some reason today i was next to it and the screen didnt turn on.
I dont really want the feature, but i just wondering if i did anything to screw up the phone. Thanks again for the help!
handcent and chompsms have the popup i know for sure
I think I may actually like this feature better. The trackball seems more subtler. Although, I did enjoy knowing who was texting.
I prefer the trackball lighting as well (I don't want the screen to light up), but on the Desire ROM from MoDaCo, when you get a message the screen lights up and you see a preview on the lock screen. Messaging application icon also shows how many unread messages on the screen. I think it is cool. I don't want the screen coming on, but I like how it shows a preview on the lock screen.

Why would you want the screen to turn on?
So everyone else can read your texts?
Trackball notifications are awesome.
I just got TrackballAlert on the Desire ROM which allows you to choose your own colors.
During St Patty's day: "Hey your phone is glowing blue. What is that? That looks awesome!"
LOL. i didnt like that the texts would just take over the screen....people can see that mug!!!
not that i wanted that feature, but i thought it was standard for all phones to have the screen turn on from standby when getting a text....i just thought i did something to screw up the phone.

No Gmail notification if viewing email thread

Hi,
One issue I have had with the hero is that if I am viewing an email conversation and I turn the screen off, I will no longer recieve email notifications about that specific conversation. No sound, no LED lightup, nothing. If I turn the screen back on, I will see the new replies but there is no notification at all. I've had this happen in 1.5 as well as 2.1. Why does this happen and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance

My guess is the Gmail app isn't smart enough to tell that the screen has turned off and it expectes that you are still looking at it. I wouldn't consider it a bug as much as I would a "Future product enhancement"
Can anyone repeat this? Am I actually the only one who has this issue?
