Adoptable Storage - LG V35 Questions & Answers

So, i've tried to get adoptable storage working on the v35.
It worked... until I tried to migrate my data...
Settings app crashes every time I hit migrate data.
I've tried a 50:50, 25:70, and entire sd card partitioning sizes but the migrate data will always crash.
Commands that i've used:
Code:
sm list-disks
sm list-volumes
sm set-force-adoptable true
sm partition disk:<disk> mixed 75
sm partition disk:<disk> mixed 50
sm partition disk:<disk> private
sm set-force-adoptable false

What model of phone are you working on?

Mine is LM-V350ULM

Huh, i think this might be why it's not working correctly:
Caution: On devices running Android 7.0-8.1, file-based encryption (FBE) can't be used together with adoptable storage. On devices using FBE, new storage media (such as an SD card) must be used as traditional storage. Devices running Android 9 and higher can use adoptable storage and FBE.

So, we may need to wait for Pie to drop on our phones before we can use adoptable storage.

So I now have 9.0, pie. It looks like if I put new media of a high enough quality Android will test it and if fast enough will allow it to be used as adoptable storage? Or if I wipe and reformat my existing card? Or am I missing something?

Tried it on android pie. no go. settings crash on migration.

"Description
nueStorageManager is a control panel applet that lets you control and fine tune storage on your device. It enables you to format, defragment and scan storage on your device, as well as mount and unmount devices.
Changelog
1.1 Updated GUI
1.0 Initial Release

It's my understanding you should NEVER defragment flash based storage as 1) All areas of the disk are read at the same speed and 2) Due to the limited # of reads/writes flash media will take you are basically shortening the life of your card.
Why would you defragment a storage card? You defragment a HDD so it doesn't have to spin to find the data as much, but why a storage card?
I jsut got the Vogue version of this yesterday. The version I have only has the option to mount which is what I need. It's better than Softick because it's freeware and better than WM5Storage because it supports 8GB SDHC. Plus it just works!
Defragmentation on storage card is goods
Defragmenting card can boost speed of file searching as if the file sare in a logical order its speed the process to find teh file and also fragments of files may be spread over differnet areas which again reduces loading speeds, so this file is very useful and simple in principl, flash cards have a stupid lifetime for over 1,000,000 write operations and a nearly limitness read lifetime..

As of #2, that counts also for a normal harddisk which is 100.000 times for 1 sector. Besides that, this app is not only for formatting, it is also for partitioning. Which is great if you have a large sized memory card. Thanks for this great tool.
Hello,
This is a nice utility for sure. Thank you
My question is that when I run this, and do a scan it tells me I have 529 lost cluster chains, and whether or not I want to keep. It would be nice to say yes to all that are alike although i can only decide on one at a time. perhaps you could fix this. What is a lost cluster chain and should I keep or no? by the way the chains are all 16kb or 48kb.

Got a new SDCard...

I'm running CM6 Nighties and WildMonks AVS/CFS Kernel but I've never done anything special with the SDCard. It's just the 4gig card that came with the Nexus One and I haven't formatted it since Eclaire, probably about 200+ flashes ago!
So... I got a new 16 gig card; is there anything special I should do before I start using this?
Oh, and can I just transfer the files over, keeping the directory structure or is there more to it?
Thanks a bunch,
Billy
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
you might want to give the EXT4 partition more space since there will be DATA2EXT
Alright. No other suggestions? I guess it's just an SD Card, right?

Yes, you can just copy files and it will work. At last works for me
I think without any moves it will stuck on boot, especially if you using app2sd.
Moved from sandisk 16gb to kingston 16gb.
Btw i always thought that nexus1 comes with 16gb card.. i founded my one in the box, box was sealed. It was Sandisk 16gb Class2, that i have changed to Kingston 16gb class6
might want to fill it up once or twice ot make sure you really have a 16Gb card before you trust your data on it.
there is a flood of bad / fake microsd cards out there now.

Make sure you copy over all this hidden files and directories too.
Download h2testw and run test on the card and makesure you get what you paid for.
Box was sealed..
Or Korea Telecom have found the way hot to broke it, put-in fake 16gb card, seal it and sell it.... via their own office

Sd card and Marshmallow

Hello,
I've got a Galaxy S5 G900F.
Is there a fix to Read/Write on Ext Sd card on Marshmallow 6 (like Sdfix on Lollipop) ?
Thanks,
Regards
Fred
Tried this one?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply
no good.. Error (the same thing than Sdfix : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix)

Hi,
nobody would have an idea ?
Had exactly the same problem myself with BlissPop MM ROM, even connecting it to the PC via USB wouldn't give me access to the MicroSD
Some permissions problem with MM I think
I posted about it in the ROMs thread, and no-one had a clue there either
Back on 5.1.1 and everything works as it should
Thanks,
if you have an answer with a solution , I'm interested
Yep, I`ll post here if I find one, annoying, I use MicroSD card PC access a lot
updated to MM and can no longer find Ext SD, it seems to have been renamed and nothing can find it..

Yea, it's named a load of random characters now, like 9C8B-74A9
HI
I have the same problem.
On SM G900F with MM 6.0.1 stock (XEF) (Rooted + TWRP)
The SD Card is locked to "read only" whith some apps (Titanium backup, Locus pro), I can't enable read/white.
Difficult to SD write acces with ES File explorer (root)
Have you 1 idea?
Thanks
I found this (somewhat risky) procedure for the S7, I didn't try it yet : http://bgr.com/2016/03/11/galaxy-s7-edge-tips-microsd-adoptable-storage/
All this snafu seems to come from the new way MM uses the SD card, which is really not a good idea in my humble opinion. Internal storage is a good idea idea on the paper, but not being able to use your SD card as you please is just a disservice. An on top of that, Samsung decides to disable the only thing that would have been helpful (Internal storage) and only allow portable storage, which the large majority of apps don't know how to use yet :/
You can read more on the internal storage feature here : https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/109134/p/1449,9582
Tried it on my S6 with a 64 Sandisk U3 :
Code:
D:\Utils\Android\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb shell
id: unknown ID 2000
[email protected]:/ $ sm list-disks
disk:179,64
[email protected]:/ $ sm partition disk:179,64 mixed 50
[email protected]:/ $ exit
D:\Utils\Android\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>
By the way : of course this manipulation wipes your SD card content ... backup backup backup.

Marshmallow now shows 2 partitions (one internal, one portable. I rebooted and I'm now going to fill internal storage to see if I can exceed the internal memory limit.
After partitioning. You need "migrate" your data from internal memory to SD card partition. On SD card, click on menu and there chose migrate data.
After this android shows external sd card as internal memory. And all your apps use your SD card instead of phone memory.

Memory issues driving me crazy

Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum, after reading it for a while now.
My P8Lite is driving me mad. I keep getting " This device doesn't have enough space" messages whenever I download or update apps.
I have a 16G SDcard installed and selected the SD card as default installation location.
That doesn't seen to have any effect, because I still have to move recently installed apps to the SD by hand.
At this moment, my internal memory is at 89%, and the SD card at 7% and I can not update my apps.
The phone is rooted, and I am using EMUI 3.1.
I haven't tot a clue how to resolve this, maybe someone else that had an idea?
Thanx in advance.
@d.
How much system storage do you actually have on the device (Settings > About Phone > Phone Storage)?
It should be ~10GB.
If not and it's 2.5GB, back-up all your data and reset the device to restore the lost 7.5GB of storage.
This occurs when installing a new ROM; ALWAYS reset the system after installing a new ROM (you may have to set-up the device first).
You selected the SD card as the default installation location, but did you move the largest apps to the SD card after you did this?
If not, do so and you'll re-gain some of your space.
With system storage running out, you'll also find that other stuff stops working such as email fetch and push.
Hi,
According to the RAM value I have 2G of internal storage.
What do you mean with resetting the phone? I guess it's not juist a reset with the power button?

Please provide the value of the internal storage.
RAM is completely different to internal storage.
You can find it in Settings > About Phone > Phone Storage:

Hi,
Please tel me what you ment by resetting the phone. I rebooted it a couple of times, without result.
Did you mean a reinstall?

Missing internal memory storage space

My Moto X Pure (2015) keeps on losing storage space. I've reformatted the phone twice now and it always happens.
15gb - Total storage
6.5gb - Android OS
9.5gb - internal storage for everything else
Right now it says I've used 8.59 of the 9.5 gb. I can't install any more apps because of "insufficient storage". However the main problem is that I'm actually only using 4.5gb with the apps/cached data/ etc. Where did the other 4gb go? I've already tried to boot into recovery and delete the cache there.

Nope. My phone is practically unusable because of this as I can only add a handful of apps before it runs out of space.

Are you storing your backups on internal storage? Because that can eat up a LOT of space that you can't see

I haven't backed up anything, unless Android has a built in backup that I don't know about.

Ah, I was referring to backups done in recovery (nandroids).
The other potential culprit is app data. Game saves and per-app cached/temp files, things like that... but you couldn't even check that unless you're rooted. I lost 14gb on one of my nexus devices once and it was a combination of nandroid backups and miscellaneous app data.
Yeah, there is something weird here. I intend to root mine, and will attempt to figure this out. It seems to me like it may be related to the MM upgrade. I just have to wait until I get back from a trip.
Have any of u figure it out where is the space going? cause i just bought this phone 1gb model and im using like 6gb but it says im using 8.30gb so i have 2 gb missing somewhere and i havent been able to figure it out where... i tried formating cache but still the same :S tried a google search but no solution ether
***UPDATE***
I found the missing space, im guessing thats a new feature on the phone that some things r hidden in the memory for some reason in my case it was the nandroid backup, those were the 2 gb missing that i wasnt able to free, i had to root my phone, then go to /data/media/0 to be able to see it and there it was lol
