Is this safe to update on my rooted device? - LG K20 Plus Questions & Answers

Is it safe to do this security update on my LGMP260 rooted device? Or will I lose my root?

Not safe.

Currently, of you want the latest stock updates while rooted, you'll have to use the unroot/unbrick method with the latest kdz file. I've tried it with flashify/flashfire in the past to no avail. Ota's also don't seem to like custom recoveries on this device. Best of luck.
Alternatively, use a custom rom like incipient and dirty flash when new updates happen.

You can use LG uppercut to restore the stock kdz, which you can get from here:
Make sure it's the MTP region version
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-mp260-firmwares/firmwares/
If you restore the kdz, you lose root & everything. Then the existing root method may not work.

Noob Question, how to get OTA updates with root?

Hey guys, I'm new to Android and have been using iOS for the last 4-5 years. I've been reading up on the basics and I'll be rooting with Wugfresh's toolkit soon.
First, I'm wondering if I can get OTA updates while rooted but on stock rom. If I can, then what options do I select on wugfresh's toolkit to maintain stock rom? If I cannot, what I do to get OTA updates in the future?
I use Wug's toolkit too and have never had to mess with any settings or run into any trouble. Also, it will run stock ROM until you deliberately load up another one, so unless you start playing with others, you shouldn't need to worry about having any trouble getting OTAs. If you do go with another ROM, devs are usually pretty quick about incorporating updates into them.
Root alone has zero effect on ota for nexus devices. Neither does unlocking the bootloader.
You will receive them. If you're root and WITH stock recovery it will install no different then a completely untouched device.
With a custom recovery it will fail to install AUTOMATICALLY but will install just fine with a manual flash of the ota zip. Toggle the signature check in custom recovery may be needed and it flashes
just leave recovery stock, and download ota rootkeeper to backup your root.

Can I flash OTA zip over a unlocked and rooted stock firmware?

I know that I can't get OTA normally if I have any system level modifications like root or xposed installed.
However, I came across this thread which lists both, the stock firmware images and individual OTA update zips.
With the zip for OTA in hand, will flashing them on a rooted stock device cause problems?
You can install the factory images but it will be a clean install. You will have to root the phone after. You can learn how to flash those images here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
No. You can't flash an OTA if you're modified. You must flash the factory images.
Thanks! Guess I have to download the full thing everytime.
Thanks!

Unable to install OA 6.0.1

hi,
I have a rooted moto x play (indian version)
I downloaded the OTA update, which reboots to recovery and fails. I use twrp as recovery.
And then it keeps failing. I want to install OTA update but don't want to reset my mobile.
Screenshot. ( boot loader is unlocked)
Maybe do a search prior to posting about installing an ota when rooted and running a custom recovery. There's more than a few threads regarding this specific situation.
All you're really doing is cluttering the MXP threads with non needed threads.
I'm not even going to help you out because I hate spoon feeding people who can't even or are to lazy to do either a search on XDA or google.
I did try searching for. no help
can anyone help?
Rooting means you're modifying the system. The system will not be like before. You may be able to download the update but that won't get installed. The modification of system files won't allow you to patch them with the OTA update. So the only way is to flash the firmware manually
since Lollipop, Google doesn't let the OTA install on top of a modified system. (any modification at all). If you were rooted, and you unroot, the system is still considered "modified".
you want to install an official update from your manufacturer, the recommended process is to first return your device to completely stock including replacing TWRP with a copy of the stock recovery.
If you have nandroid backup before install SuperSU, first flash that and flash stock recovery and boot into stock and get ota and flash then you can re root and flash recovery again.

OTA updates after root?

Hi, I have a european S8+ fully rooted and with TWRP.
Everything's working great so far but I read somewhere that I won't receive further OTA updates.
Can I install them manually with TWRP?
If yes, 3 questions:
1. Where can I get them?
2. Do I need every single update or are the newest update always containing the older updates as well?
3. Do I lose root or TWRP after installing an update?
I've rooted with Magisk by the way.
Typically if you're rooted and modified the system partition (BusyBox or twrp or whatever) the update will not install in stock recovery. Usually you have to unroot reinstall stock recovery and flash ota. There's toolkits out that can do that. Or you can just find an awesome rom like a rooted debloated rom thats just recently updated and just flash that. Or you can what till somebody snags the ota update location then posts that.

(US996) LGUP - Apply upgrades incrementally or just go to newest?

I have a basically stock factory unlocked US996. Bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed, rooted, but otherwise the stock 10d ROM.
I see there's a 10n KDZ out there, when I check for updates on my phone it offers 10f. So should I do each one incrementally or can I go straight to 10n via the LGUP app? I realize that I'll lose TWRP and Root in the process, as I understand it Magisk can get that back for me.
Magisk is a root solution and has nothing to do with TWRP. I'm not a 996 guy, but I can at least assure you that installing Magisk does not guarantee TWRP or vice versa. It might be true for your phone, but it's not guaranteed.
There is no need to update incrementally. Each update is a "full" install. You're not going to lose anything by skipping a release.
But once again, don't do an OTA update. At the very least, do some research on what you're jumping to in order to see what you might lose. For example, I'm a 918 user. Updating to the latest version for me via OTA means I permanently lose root and TWRP. Full stop, no going back. Even updating to a ROM with the latest bootloader means I can never go back. No Lineage, AOSP, or anything, ever. But I can use other custom ROMs based on my bootloader.
Is that the case for yours? No idea. But no modder ever took an OTA and walked away happy. You won't be the first.
If you do LGUP you'll lose root afaik, it overwrites everything, and afaik too, the latest versions have some sort of anti-rollback protection, and you can't root on new firmwares. Might not be the case with 996, I'm on H990DS. Just use KDZ Writer, it will protect the root and TWRP.
None of the existing US996 updates, up to and including 10n, have incremented the anti-rollback counter.
