G900F temp root solotion in lollipop?

Dear esteemed experts,
I’m hoping you can assist in my hour of need: My partner has a stock unrooted European G900F S5, which unfortunately had a massive software glitch causing it to crash on start up. Long story short we managed to get to the factory reset options and do a full reset, which cured the problem, however my partner’s data has now been lost.
She regularly backed up and had all the autobackups enabled so contacts, sms, mms, pics, videos, settings, etc were all restored with relative ease, but it appears the most valuable thing to her, her WhatsApp conversation backups were stored by Whatsapp on the internal memory rather than the SD card (brilliant piece of software design going on there) so they are gone. Smart Switch restored all of the other WhatsApp data on the internal memory as part of its “data” backup but not the backup files…
I’d like to run a data recovery program to see if they can be recovered, but am hitting dead ends at every turn: none of the specialist android recovery programs (such as dr fone) appear to work on a lollipop S5 unless it is rooted; none of the usual PC recovery suites can work on MTP or PTP modes and a mass storage connection is no longer possible (at least without root); and the only way to permanently root is to downgrade the stock rom (which will likely overwrite the data I am trying to recover) and use something like towel root on KitKat. In any event, she’s very happy with an unrooted phone with OTA updates and so wouldn’t wish to end up with a rooted phone anyway, so I’d have no real interest in a custom bootloader install, etc: I just want temporary access for dr fone!
To that end, I wondered if there was by any chance a crafty way of obtaining a temporary root in lollipop (a re-root after restart is absolutely fine by me) just so I can run a recovery program and see if we get any luck? If it came to it I think she’d be prepared to sacrifice a knox trip if she got her conversations back….
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I could only fish out advice on permanent rooting for s5 in my searches (both here and on google).
Many thanks for your assistance!
Dav
No way to root lollipop without tripping KNOX if you are not willing to downgrade to KitKat first, which would defeat the object as you could root with towelroot then anyway
Only way to root Lollipop is to flash CF Auto Root with ODIN, which WILL trip KNOX, and it is permanent unless you choose to unroot / flash stock again
This is the file you need to flash with ODIN (Extract and add it to the AP or PDA section of ODIN with the phone in download mode)

custom binary blocked by FRP lock? bricked?

Hi, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but Im having to use someone else's windows phone and its hard to navigate through the site.
My problem is that I tried to root my s6 edge plus using an application called King Root. The install got to 17% and then turned the phone off. When I load the phone up now I just get the message "custom binary locked by FRP lock" in red writing and the phone instantly boots off.
Is there a way to get around this without losing my data on my phone? I have some very important photos that are on there that I really don't want to lose, unfortunately nothing is backed up. I've been researching and apparently this is possible using a programme called Odin? I hope this is possible as I don't want to lose my stuff on my phone.
Any help would be great, thank you.
To be brutally honest if you haven't heard of Odin and you're using Kingroot, you're way out of your depth and you shouldn't be even thinking about rooting your device.
Not being nasty, sincerely. But you need to do a LOT of research.
The only way to rescue your device is to flash a stock firmware via Odin. There are guides on this site, read them and then read them again and again. Your photos are probably gone unfortunately. I would say definitely, but mircles can happen..
Good luck!
Maybe just flashing the stock bootloader may help but once you atart flashing the pda i think your photos may be gone. Unless where ever they are stored doesnt get over written they may be recovered uisng a data recovery app on the play store like gt recovery and the deep scan option.. it still finds photos from 5 new rom installs on my opo

"The camera may be in use" and other camera problems after bootloader unlocking

"The camera may be in use" and other camera problems after bootloader unlocking
Long story short, my camera app is giving me the "The camera may be in use by another application." error even after a factory reset.
Third party camera apps cannot focus and most of the time only produce a green picture when trying to save the image, or fail completely to do so.
The hardware works, as I can see the image on third party apps, and some third party apps manage to save the image as well.
The dirty details:
After getting my brand new X Compact, it quickly updated itself to 6.0.1 (34.1.A.3.49) and since rooting it with some random one-click app failed, I have haphazardly decided to unlock my bootloader, following the Sony guides.
The camera was definitely working OK, before attempting these steps.
I was aware, that some camera functionality would be lost, and I was like sure, whatever, but the end result was not exactly what I've expected.
Bootloader unlocking went fine (except of course I did not read the small text, so was rather surprised rebooting to a factory reset ), but since I still was unable to root the phone with stock firmware, I decided to relock the bootloader with Flashtool and leave it at that. (note, phone still on stock everything at this point).
Flashtool said relocking successful, but it did sort of stop half-way through the progress bar and didn;t move on from there.
Next reboot and the phone didn't accept my PIN or any other thing I could come up with, so after 30 tries it factory reset itself and the next morning I realized my camera is FUBAR.
I am honestly not sure whether everything was ok between unlocking and relocking.
now the Sony camera app is completely hopeless. I have tried stopping everything, including system apps, I've tried a factory reset, I've tried PC companion repair, nothing worked.
third party camera apps are a mixed bag. They all show the live preview image, but modifying anything or saving the image fails:
open camera doesn't seem to do anything (doesn't save the image or do anything when shutter pressed)
FV5 lite sometimes works sometimes not (perhaps depending on some settings? no idea tbh), when it works, can take pictures of the main camera, but cannot move focus. Front camera results in green image.
facebook, instagram etc work, but there's not much control in those. Also they do not auto focus at all.
The generated "green image" has a correct looking EXIF, but then where the image should be there is mostly just a long repeat of the following four bytes: 0A 28 A2 80
One possible hint is that in the file I can see the follwing string: "Qualcomm Camera Debug"
Anyone seen anything remotely familiar?
As I've already did the bootloader unlock, I chose not to send it back even if I have relocked the bootloader and I have no replacement phones available, so I kind of prefer not to be phoneless until it would get clarified.
I'm not sure if it's working, but try this:
unlock bootloader again. then flash your stock firmware again via flashtool. You know how to do that?
I did mark all wipes in flashtool. Then you load kernelpatcher V5.0 tool here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-kernel-dm-t3301605/post64990566#post64990566
follow all steps to patch you stock kernel with DRM-Fix. Did you backup yor TA befor unlocking bootloader?
So you can extract DRM keys and make .ftf in order to flash your DRM keys. If not, DRM Fix should work as well.
You can also read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69993876&postcount=86
of course no TA backup, as I wasn't aware of this and didn't prepare for this properly (I just assumed following the Sony guides would be OK to follow, even if I loose some features)
To be fair, I may have screwed this up while trying to "relock" with flashtool, so there. Lesson learned.
Now that I start reading up on what even TA is, first hit on google: on sony's own forums about an unlocked Xperia-Z3-Compact and lost TA partition is eerily familiar and not promising much good (sorry, can't post links yet. Anyway, the guy's camera also stopped focusing.)
thanks for the tips, I'll look into these in a more relaxed moment.
Question: could the potentially damaged TA partition impact the functionality even on third party roms like CM?
I never used a custom rom, but i think if you did a clean flash of stock firmware, you should be able to flash a custom rom and everything shold be fine, except functions which need DRM keys.

Attempted some kind of quasi root, now having issues. Please help!

Okay, let me start out by saying that I don't really know much about this stuff.
Anyway, I messed up and deleted some photos that were important for my job and in a panic I used some questionable software in attempt to "root" my phone, in hopes of retrieving those photos.
I never got the photos back, but now I have some type of security issue with my phone. Basically, during the boot screen, I get a custom/unlocked logo, and when it boots up I get the following security message: "Unauthorized actions have been detected. Restart your phone to undo any unauthorized changes". In addition, I cannot use my fingerprint sensor, Samsung Pay, or install updates.
After doing a little research, I downloaded a couple apps to see if 1) my phone was actually rooted (SuperSu) 2) if Knox had been tripped (Knox Status). The answer to both is "no", so hopefully that is a good sign.
Is there anyway to restore my phone to normal, or did I do something that is non-reversible?
Anyway help would be greatly appreciated!
Flash a Sammy Rom via Odin in download mode and you should be good to go.

Help Requested: Rooting a Snapdragon Galaxy S8 (Android Pie) to Recover Lost Photos

Hi all,
My grandma recently passed away and her phone contains precious memories of her and our family. I found out that she accidentally deleted her entire gallery without realizing it before passing away and there doesn't seem to be a straightforward to try and recover lost data without rooting her phone.
I researched how to root an S8 but so far have not found a straightforward way to root the phone without potentially bricking the device. Would appreciate it if there is a way to safely root the device to help recover her photos?
Thanks for reading
As far as I know, there are some apps on the playstore that can recover photos without root (I've used DiskDigger and worked out OK). If you root, I think formating the device is inevitable and will probably just make the problem worse.
