Unofficial way to unlock bootloader of MAX ZC550kl without the app ? - Asus Zenfone Max Questions & Answers

Hello everyone
My phone suddenly went into a boot look after multiple process getting stopped.
After that its not booting.
Now it shows the unable to mount E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument and i haven't unlocked the boot loader.
please help me with the same.
i have tried wipe cache partition , system reset everything,

If I understand correctly you can't use the official bootloader unlock app because your phone isn't booting android. I'm guessing your recovery is also not working or you would just factory reset the device and boot into android to unlock the bootloader.
I don't know of any unofficial way to unlock the bootloader so if I were you i'd just do it the official way.
1. Download the raw firmware for your device as well as the ASUS Flash Tool.
2. Boot your phone into fastboot and flash it with AFT.
3. Boot your phone into android if you can. If not, at lease your recovery should be working now. Download the latest device firmware form the ASUS website and flash it using the recovery menu of your device. (power + vol down)
4. Boot your phone into android install the bootloader apk.
5. Open bootloader unlocker app to unlock the device (you need to be connected to the internet for this bit)
Raw firmware for your device can be difficult to find but this one worked for me https://ainotech.com/how-to-flash-fi...twrp-recovery/

I am looking for the unofficial method because the official method does not work now.

I am successful this way, Peetama flash official beta rom 6.0.1 raw. After successfully booting back to fastboot to flash twrp. Once done, immediately reboot into twrp. Flash the magisk if necessary. But I went straight to the custom rom viper os 3.1.1 and done.
For details You can read the article here TWRP WITHOUT UBL

Is this is TWRP for Marshmallow? Because the recovery files.you have uploaded are dated 25th September 2015?
@mfbcool yes...this is for Marshmallow... But dont swipe allow modifications!!
Member gettin error after swiping...just do read only...
I root my device by this method yesterday
but today root not work in titanum backup
I check it by root checker and everything is ok
Even though this method works, I would not recommend moving SuperSU to system partition. I didn't moved it and still SU permissions are working fine. I say so because Chainfire in his new SuperSU adopted a 'Systemless Root' method that roots without modifying the system partition so that apps like Android Pay work properly. He achieved this by patching the Boot image and so root is installed in boot image and is enabled at every boot (that's why you may experience some boot loops after rooting). This makes taking OTA updates and unrooting the device easier as you can unroot by flashing the Stock Boot.img instead of flashing the whole system partition.
I believe moving SuperSU to system partition destroys the main purpose and idea Chainfire had while making SuperSU compatible with Marshmallow. We all know EMUI won't update on Rooted devices. So it would be a pain to reflash whole Stock System Partition before taking OTA.
Hi thanks, I'm root my mobile I'm in android 6.0 now how to get back to kikkat a stock rom from twrp
@G E N E R A L open supersu app and tick the mount name separation and restart phone... Titanium, kingroot all will recognize root
Hit thanks if it helps....
@TMDMOOSA if you wanna go back to KK, Flash stock recovery first!!
Then flash the back pkg B320, then B070
If you gets error, flash middle pkg of chc rom and then flash directly KK Rom usin stock recovery!!

I have successfully built TWRP 3.0.0-0 for our device which fixes the weird swipe to allow modifications bug and is fully compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-twrp-3-0-0-0-huawei-honor-4c-t3349495
Also, to re-flash Stock ROM, you don't need to flash Stock Recovery. Huawei phones have 2 inbuilt recoveries. The second recovery (which is the Stock) can be accessed by 3 buttons method (Power + Volume Up + Volume Down).
@mfbcool i saw that thread early... Great work man... I know huawei have 2 inbuilt recoveries but 2nd one is erecovery and thats of no use at all... I tried it too many times!! If twrp 3.0 can flash update.app files,,, it gonna rocks , wish u best of luck man!! You did it

Guide to revert oneplus 3t to stock completely and install OTA update

Hello Friends,
I have seen several Youtube videos and read the thread of xda senior member the rooter to unroot and revert the oneplus 3t to stock. The senior member guided very beautifully to have the stock ROM with or without the bootloader unlocked and fix DM-verity issue.
The following guide is not my invention, I have taken the sources from internet and xda site. The difference is that I used TWRP to flash official oxygenOS zip file of 4.1.6 and I am surprised that this file also flash stock recovery, therefore I did not flash stock recovery and proceeded further for full wipe and lock bootloader. In the middle of thread, I also alerted and said that if stock recovery is not flashed after installing zip of 4.1.6, then it is mandatory to flash stock recovery from fastboot before locking bootloader, otherwise your devices will be bricked.
1) Flash Oxygen OS 4.1.6 through latest TWRP 3.1.1.2 and remember to wipe system, cache, data and delvic cache excluding internal storage before flashing. Do not wipe completely otherwise you will have TWRP installed again and you will have to flash stock recovery through fastboot method.
Link for official TWRP for oneplus 3t: https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus3t/twrp-3.1.1-2-oneplus3t.img.html
Link for official stock recovery for oneplus 3t: http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_4.1.7/ , here go down the page and click on "Download Oxygen Recovey (Optional)"
After booting successfully, go to setting and tap the build number 7 times to enable advanced reboot and usb debugging and connect your mobile with your PC and make sure that you have adb drivers installed on your PC.
Now, extract the folder of fastboot and press the right click of mouse while pressing shift button. Basically you have to open command prompts. Now type: adb reboot recovery and hit enter.
2) Your phone should boot into oxygen stock recovery and if it does not boot to stock recovery then flash stock recovery from fastboot.
2) Now your oneplus 3t is having Oxygen OS 4.1.6 with stock recovery but having DM verity issue. Now, full wipe ( select erase everything) in stock recovery and reboot. This wiping through stock recovery may be extra step (locking the bootloader will erase your data completely) but I did this to avoid any problem.
3) Now, sideloaded the same file i.e. oxygen OS 4.1.6 or OOS 4.1.7 through the following command:
adb sideload OTA.zip
where OTA is zip file downloaded from oneplus site for oneplus 3t and renamed it as OTA
(For this, you will have to go to stock recovery and select the option of "install from ADB" then a pop up screen will show you that you are in sideload mode. But remember that sideloading the OS is a slow process; so keep patience and do not remove cable in the middle of installation otherwise your device will be bricked.)
4) Now, lock the bootloader from the command in fastboot mode:
fastboot oem lock
after entering the command in fastboot mode, a confirmation will be asked to lock the bootloader for Yes or No, confirm from the volume keys and let boot the phone automatically and wait to finish.
5) If you sideloaded the OOS 4.1.6 in step 3 then you will see the update notification of OOS 4.1.7 which is about 450MB, download it ,install it and reboot.
6) Enjoy............the stock
Thanks to guides on youtubes and xda site.
Please note that if you follow these steps, you will not have any issues because I have done again and again without any issues but I do not take any responsibility of bricked devices if you perform wrong method or skip any thing.
Please hit the like if find this useful, it is absolutely freeeeee.............
What if I currently have no OS installed? Does that matter?

How can i find one plus 3t recovery I cant find both twrp and one plus official recovery.

Hard/soft brick

I think I messed up my PH-1 something royally.
All I was trying to do is unlock my bootloader and load Magisk.
To preface this, my PH-1 seemed to act a little wonky from the get-go. I bought it 3rd person from a guy on craigslist so anything warranty involved I think I'm out of luck.
The phone would take a while to power on, it took something like 10secs on the power button just to turn it on. And if I set it to reboot , it boots into the bootloader. Also, I was never able to access the recovery (even using power + up). It always felt like I had to hold the buttons for way to long to get to its destination; e.g. up and power to get into fastboot.
Ok where I'm at now. In can occasionally get into fastboot mostly after it bootlooping a few times. It won't get past the Essential logo if I try to boot it up.
PS I was able to unlock the bootloader.
Steps I took to remedy this:
> erase all user data in fastboot
> hold power + u + d to hard power off
> follow this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/how-to/guide-rooting-essential-ph-1-magisk-t3701976
> attempt to install stock system image via flash-all
>a ton other
Here are the results of that.

This is also very helpful
https://mata.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
That's the exact process I was going through, and it finally booted up.
The issue I was having was a bad usb connection which wouldn't allow me to unlock_critical.
SOLVED. Still no Magisk, we'll worry about that another time. 5hrs of troubleshooting is enough for one night.

SO close to getting Magisk to install, any reason the refuses to flash the boot partition? I used the stock boot.img and had Magisk patch it before I flashed

You have to flash magisk in twrp recovery NOT bootloader mode.
It's right in the OP from the rooting guide you followed:
Do not set up a password if you are on 8.1 twrp doesn't work.
You need to read through that rooting guide and make sure you know what you're doing before you try.
This phone is easy to hard brick and there is no solution to recover from that.
OREO 8.0/8.1
REQUIREMENTS:
An unlocked bootloader.
A working ADB/Fastboot environment on your computer. Knowledge on how ADB and Fastboot works is also preferred.
The stock boot image for whatever build you're running/trying to root.
The latest TWRP build for our device.
If on 8.1, remove your pin/pattern/passcode until the root process is done.
1. Download both the stock boot image for whatever build you're running and the Magisk or SuperSU zip. Transfer both files to your device's internal storage.
2. Reboot your phone into the bootloader, then open up your command prompt or terminal and flash the latest TWRP build for the device using:
Code:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img
3. Once TWRP has finished flashing, reboot into your recovery. When prompted, enter your pattern/passcode/password to decrypt your data in order to gain access to your internal storage.
4. Once you're in TWRP, install the stock boot image and then the Magisk/SuperSU zip.
5. Whenever Magisk/SuperSU finishes installing, simply reboot your device! You should now be rooted.
*NOTE: TWRP will NOT remain installed on your device.

I realize all that, the issue is I cannot access any sort of recovery because I think my bootloader is defective.
For example from a cold restart if I press the power button for say 3 -5 seconds it wont boot, just boot to the Essential logo and loop. To get the phone to boot I have to hold the power down for 15-20 seconds while it bootloops a couple times then it'll boot.
Is there a possible way to reflash the bootloader software if it is defective? It's unlocked btw
There is a way to install magisk via fastboot with a patched_boot img which I'm working on. Cant seem to find the right boot img to patch for 8.1
PS Is it possible to flash .zips through fastboot? e.g. custom roms etc
Was finally able to get into recovery, so all is well. Thanks for the help yall
OP, what was your process to successfully get into recovery and fix your problems?
It may help others sometime?

It's really hard to say, my phone has a serious problem with it. sometimes I cant get it to boot, it will boot into the bootloader over and over and over. I've managed to get Lineage 15.1 on if for a bit until I tried to get back into the recovery which sent it manic.
I just got lucky I was able to get into TWRP and flash lineage.
my first issue not being able to flash the stock image via fastboot because I didn't unlock_critical which can sometimes fail when the usb connection is bad.
Currently flashing stock again if my phone will boot up. I'm not sure whats wrong with my bootloader but its causing a ton of havoc

Same boat for me - just keep rebooting to show Powered by Android Screen and then reboot again and again. Was able to see my device using fastboot devices command but all attempts to access recory just repeat the bootloop entry. I would happily check the OEM UNLOCK option in dev settings but can't even get it to book to any OS to make that option happen. Still shows bootloader locked on bootloader screen - any help someone can suggest?
I had this problem tonight also. In my case I suspect it had to do with the install of magisk in which I checked both boxes and patched the bootloader. on reboot I was stuck on boot. Just wanted to add my solution. I got the pie back to stock zip here https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/stock-7-1-1-nmj20d-t3701681 then I put it into the adb folder and ran the flashall.bat script. I tried the no wipe one and it saved my information. very happy I didnt have to resetup my phone in the end.

I am in the same boat. I tried to re-install the OS, but because my USB debugging was not enabled, Fastboot worked but ADB would not and since I basically wiped the recovery area, my phone will only boot into Fastboot but will not allow any loading of recovery. I would pay for someone to help. This is so hard to figure out. I have contacted Essential but since my phone is over 12 months old, the warranty has expired.
Help please. It seems like such a waste to have a bricked phone.

Failed Update from 10.3.12 to 11 - Assistance Appreciated

Attempted to update from the latest stable 10.3.12 to 11 by flashing the full OTA zip in TWRP.
Install failed and phone locked up.
Attempting to boot to recovery or system results in Qualcomm Crashdump Mode.
I can get to Fastboot, but I'm not sure if I should try flashing twrp.img or pull boot.img from the OTA or what.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I did not have time to wait so before bed I just reset everything.
I ended up using the MSM tool located here:
The Complete Guide to Unbrick OnePlus 6/6T from a Hard-Brick using MSMDownload Tool
Unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP & Magisk, installed A11 zip, everything is working again now.
Good luck!

Flash temporary recovery first ( lineage recovery ) then from fastboot.. boot into recovery.
You will see lineage recovery.
Select apply update - > update from adb ....
Then "adb sideload <twrp image>.img...
(probably it ask to verify choose yes)
Go back select advanced restart ( not sure the right word ) -> reboot to recovery.
Then you will have twrp installed.
If you only want to root why not flash magiskpatched image there no need TWRP just to root.

Hm but how would I install lineage recovery? Flashing recovery through fastboot doesn't work on the new devices anymore right?
I also tried booting lineage recovery without flashing but that also didn't work (although it didn't get stuck on crashdump but booted into the regular OS instead).
I did notice that it seems to be related to OOS 11 firmware. On 10 booting into TWRP works just fine and as soon as I upgrade to 11 it stops working (maybe this means it's fixable?). What I used as a workaround for now is to have 10 firmware in one slot, upgrade other slot to 11 and flash TWRP to both slots from the 10 slot. Seems to work so far but is not ideal IMO. I'm not a developer sadly but maybe someone smarter than me will come up with a solution.
What do you mean by "new device"?? New OOS version right??
I use this method all the time with oos 11.x.x.x.x to install TWRP so i can install Custom ROM later.
no need to go to oos 10 you can flash it from newest oos11.

First boot into fastboot mode.

fastboot flash boot <lineage recovery image>.img
download from here https://download.lineageos.org/fajita

Help! stuck post unlocking bootloader

So i was just following the instructions from this page https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/flox/install, was able to unlock the bootloader of my nexus 7 device. Now at this point i didnt know my device codename, i thought it was flox but i just noticed on the bootloader page it says deb. [Im a noob..guilty]
Now the 2nd step was no biggie either, i was able to flash twrp recovery, but somehow it was not working as i was keep getting error 1 and vendor invalid argument when i tried to flash the lineage 18.1 zip.
The recovery img i tried were
lineage-18.1-20211018-recovery-flox.img
twrp-3.4.0-0-deb.img
twrp-3.5.0_9-0-flox.img
twrp-3.5.2_9-0-flo.img
twrp-3.5.2_9-0-flo_followmsi.img
Now after flashing twrp recoveries i was getting the problem of not able to flash the LOS 18.1 rom file, plus if i would format the device and then try to reboot the device back to recovery i would get an error with android logo collapsed [check the image]
what am i doing wrong? plz help.
I sense its repartitioning process? also i am not sure if i did an EFS Persists back up.
so if someone can give a walkthrough. would be very greatful _/\_
thanks again
Was your device rooted? Start it in to recovery mode, go to "Mount". And see if you could chose system directory. If not, that means TWRP can't access system directory and will not be able to flash any custom ROM until you sort root permissions.
Edit: Sorry just now noticed that you can't get in to recovery mode anymore. Connect your device to computer and use Nexus Root Toolkit to flash TWRP recovery.
