[HELP] Buying samsung s8 advice - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello friends!
I'm considering upgrading to a SGS8 and before making a purchase I need your help confirming what I should look for if I want to have an unlocked bootloader in order to install whatever ROM I please ans be free from Samsung's tyrany.
Please tell me if im wrong or missing something here when looking for one of these on Amazon:
-Model: SM-G950F or SM-G950FD (This is because these models came to the market with the "OEM unlock" option under dev settings and they have an Exynos chip)
-Running stock Android Nougat 7.0
-Bootloader version: ??
Got it right? Thanks for your help!!!!

Nobody here will guarantee anything probably, and neither do I, but I'd say that what you wrote sounds good.
You can send it back within 30 days with Amazon anyway

thanks mate, just looking forward an educated piece of advice from someone versed on the whole story and current dev state about this phone =)
I understand there is a whole bunch of models SM-G9500, SM-G950F, SM-G950FD, SM-G950U, SM-G950U1, SM-G950W, SM-G950N....
Some Snapdragon, some Exynos...
I understand its best to go for an Exynos one, and among those the SM-G950F, SM-G950FD.... perhaps someone can tell me why is that or correct me?

F & FD are same. They use the same firmware.
The only difference is FD version has hybrid sim slot (2 sim or 1 sim + sd card).
Whereas F version has 1 sim + sd card option only.

Definitely go for an exynos version. Go for a G950F/FD. What these people said is correct, FD is dual SIM version. they are unlocked international versions with unlocked bootloaders. There is quite a lot of development ongoing for these devices.

[Q] flashing stock firmware over old/ region

hello i require your assistance
i bought a samsung galaxy note 3 SM-n9009 in china. Upon bringing it back to singapore, i realised that i may not be able to use it with local telcos. I have limited knowledge of phone firmware, but if im not wrong, each telco has their own firmware. Hence, my question is, am i able to flash my local telco's firmware over the current one, and use my simcard on it without any drawbacks? and if so, how?
i have did a limited search and found that only european note 3 are region locked. im not sure if the current one is.
thank you for your help
for info: singapore local models are n9005.

There isn't much info around about the N9009 model, Is it like the N9005? snapdragon? -- From what I can see it isn't possible, however it may be possible flashing N9005 firmware but I wouldn't hold your hopes too high.

thank you for the fast reply. its a china dual sim model. how do i tell if its snapdragon? and if its possible how should i go about doing it?
Yup it's Snapdragon - Only N900 has Exynos (my bad should have realised straight away) ---
In regards to flashing, you need to read A LOT on here about the different flash routes you can take, compatability and methods. And be ready to be able to flash back to the software that it is on currently or you could end up with a bricked device. Once you have read up on everything, you can then decide if you feel you can flash your device or not, or if the device can handle it without messing it up.
Although saying that *eureka!*. Have a look if you can change your CSC/Modem radio -- that may work rather than trying to flash a new firmware.

how could i go about checking to change the csc/ modem radio?
Have a look around the development section and you should find Modem radios/CSC files etc -- have a read and see what is there and if others have had similar issues, you may also find someone in that sub-forum with a wealth of knowledge regarding changing stuff (far more than me at least)
hopefully anyone else who has any experience would be able to shed some light on this matter
Theres not much research in n9009 cuz nobody has them
If i were you id try to flash a signapore csc and modem but no whole FW
hit 'thanks' if i helped you

Need help with getting TWRP and root on a Sprint S7 Edge.

I know this has been asked before, but it's been a year.
I have a friend who got themselves a Sprint S7 Edge. As far as I know the SIM lock is gone. Now he wants to get TWRP on it to be able to root it. I've been searching the internet for solutions and came over several guides that showed me how to root it, but no trustworthy recovery guide. The model number (SM-G935P/hero2qltespr) and processor are also confusing me. And as it seems there are no custom ROMs for the Sprint S7 either?
Im sorry if this thread is unnescesarry and Im simply missing something out or am too stupid.
All help is greatly apreciated.
there are 2 different methods depending on whether your phone is a exynos or snapdragon version.
which version does your phone say. Most us version are Qualcomm (snapdragon).
here is the link for snapdragon verion make sure it is the right one for your phone.

Its the Snapdragon Version. I followed the link but I noticed that the download link doesnt work. Why so?
Also, the guide I found linked me to the Exynos version of TWRP though the Model is the sprint one. Is it a mistake or right?

People simply might not know which is why they haven't replied. I can add my two cents but I'm not really sure.
930V is the version of the S7, a USA model. It might be that as the US model, it isn't compatible with samsung pay outside the US. It could also be that as a US model you can't get updates without being on a US carrier network.
Another possibility is that it's not an S7 at all and that it's a fake phone made to look and behave like an S7. Boot the phone into download mode, as download mode phone information can't be faked. See what it says in there.
But that's just a guess, I don't know for sure.
You can use Odin to change the firmware so long as it's a compatible stock firmware (you'd have to be looking at the Snapdragon firmware) which you can find at sammobile.com

its not face it tried g930u rom installed every thing good but little bit network problem network weak and Samsung pay is international not India version
Samsung pay may be an international service, but to work it still requires collaboration between telcos and samsung.
You have a US model phone that is not officially supported outside of the US, and is not officially supports by Indian telcos. That is probably why it won't work. Whatever Samsung and Indian telcos put in place to support Samsung pay likely doesn't include US model phones being used outside the US, with a non-US SIM.
The 930V also uses a different modem to the international 930F variant, which means you won't be connecting to all the same network bands as the 930F variant, which will affect your network speed and potentially any telco services such as VoLTE and Samsung pay.
There is a reason 930V's sell for cheaper than the international 930F variant.
so there is no solution for this phone
I have a AUS version of S7 and I can confirm that I am able to use it in India for Samsung Pay
Why dont you manually update it to Android 7. This will have latest Samsung Pay installed and you should be able to use it in India
Please head to Sammobile and search firmware for SM-G930V
Australia and India both use the international variant G930F, so I'd expect it to work.

Total android noob looking for root help

I was wondering which samsung galaxy s8 should i buy on amazon for rooting since i hear the american verisons have a root but it drains 20% of your battery life.So what if i get a unlocked international version? Would that be the best approach or what exactly should i get?

If your reason to root is to use different roms then you should do some research because my understanding is that most US s8 have locked bootloaders and roms are not an option. I'm not up on all the details, this is ment more as a FYI.

Its to mainly have full control over the device, but i don't want the battery handicap.I asked on a different forum and found out from someone else that in order to not have the battery handicap i have to get a exynos model that has a F instead of a U in the model number and install twrp with magisk.I cant believe you couldn't just tell me that and save me the trouble instead of telling me to do research.
All i need to know now is if a exynos unlocked s8 is ok to get with a root because i am going to want to have a specific sim card working on it

Yes exynos version, as you say, rooting itself is easy and painless. I kept mine stock for 2 months but rooted a month ago, and am loving the flexibility and ability to tweak what I want (debloating lotsa bloatware apps, changing bootanimations, trying and managing various kernels and custom ROMs) enjoy!

Root for the Samung Galaxy S10 5G

Hey all, I have successfully achieved root on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G SM-G977B. The process was simple due to it being the same process as topjohnwu already published. This is the official page for the instructions by topjohnwu which do work: topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root. If you struggle at any point feel free to reply and I will help where I can.
Currently TWRP doesn't work but I am spending time attempting to port it over. I am in no way an advanced developer but technology is my passion. So if I am successful and another developer hasn't already ported one over I'll be happy to post, but expect bugs. Due to this my device is currently unrooted but I can quickly root it and add pictures to prove .
Happy Rooting!.
Verizon Locked?
Are you in the US? The only way to currently buy it is through Samsung/Verizon and I am worried it may be locked to Verizon. Will that cause any issues in terms of rooting?

The US version of the Galaxy S10 5G Model is snapdragon 855 SM G977U and from a bit of search you won't be able to root
If you want to root your phone your going to need an Exynos version SM G977N Unlocked & SM G977B of the Galaxy S10 5G which he has above
Your going to have to wait until someone sells a unlocked version of the snapdragon even then don't know if you can still root

I'm new to this but does rooting depend on the phone being carrier unlocked? Or by "unlocked" you mean bootloader unlocked?

Hey all, a proper guide with all the information will be posted soon in the meantime I am working on TWRP and will post updates on how I'm doing. If any developers want to potentially lend a hand then feel free to PM me or email me.

Currently I can successfully boot into TWRP by flashing a custom modified built using the s10+ device tree as a base with modifications to fit the s10 5g.
TWRP seems to work perfectly, and it seems that the current issue is all the security measures Samsung put in place. I have attempted modifying the multidisabler just by adding my version to the support list but while I do get further then without it. I still get stuck on Samsung logo before a reboot. And based in my limited knowledge on the script and also looking through the files as root previously it seems Samsung has changed a few files around. So that is were I am at.
Latest update: I am now working with ianmacd (the current maintainer of Unnofficial TWRP for the s10/+/e) to bring youse and myself a working twrp for our devices!, according to my observations and Ian's observations when building a custom kernel that the s10 5g is more different than the s10/+/e range so please be patient while me an Ian work on this. Based on everything he will now be the lead developer and I'll be the tester gathering all required files. I doubt my work will be used but it was fun experimenting with it and who knows maybe it could help. I'll continue to post updates

Hey there! Do you have any updates on this? I just received my new S10 5G today (coming from G975).
I saw @ianmacd mention this variant on his G97x TWRP thread... is it already working? Safe to patch AP with Magisk? What about the multidisabler?
Thanks mate!
I just seen that Sprint's US 5g ver has a boot loader that can be unlocked. I just checked on my fully updated Sprint 5g the setting is there. One step closer to root?

do you know if exynos 5G will give 5G signal on tmobile ?

There seems to be a lack of progress in the recent days.
How are we going with it?
I am trying to make a rooting solution as I type this.

I'm actually considering purchasing this phone since I find out it's bootloader can be unlocked and there's root possibility.. I really hope it can be done.
no progress right ?
most people dont have the phone
and the root right now is for the B model which is going for 1500 on ebay
while the N model can be found for 700
N model needs root so badly
i want the 5G but due to lack of support i can't buy it
keeping the s10+ for now

Hello everybody,
I have an SM-G977B and I followed the root guide in the top of this thread.
Arrived at "Unlocking Bootloader" => "Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader." in download mode that option is not in the list and pressing volume up nothing happens.
By skipping that step with Odin I can only load original roms without the root.
How do I get the option to unlock the bootloader in the download mode menu?
Excuse me for the bad English,
best regards.
