which car player do I have? can I change firmware? - Android Head-Units

Hi,
I've just brought a Chinese car player from tomtop (w w w . t o m t o p . c o m /p-k7189.html)
I'm trying to figure out which car player is it and if it is possible to install a custom firmware.
The main reason I want to do that is since the data partition is too small and I can't install more than 2-3 apps (so I need to decide if I want spotify or waze )
The box says it is CK-1018 and the user manual reference to ezonetronics (which I already contact but they asked me to contact tomtop instead....)
this is what I see in the info page:
If someone can help me identifying this player it would be awesome.

You ever get anywhere with this?

EDIT DElete

Haha, I bought the same one too and installed it today, my version is with an Android 8.1 GO, that's a light version for mobile devices, a bit higher than yours on the picture.

Everything seems to work reasonable fine for this price! Concerning internal storage I saw that 15GB would be free of the 16GB, didn't bump against a data storage problem, maybe later
Yes the manual is extremely short, maybe after your experiences you can help me with following questions:
1.When I turn on my car, the clock & date are always wrong, I always need to have wifi in my neighbourhood to synchronise.
I had set the date manually, but it keeps resetting, is it because there is no internal battery in this gps or it doesn't take a small amount of power from the car battery when sleeping ?
2.Is there a possibility to light up the buttons on the panel on the left ?
On youtube I saw some people with other gps'es that looked like this one, they could even choose the colour of the buttons in white, blue,...
3.Is the built in wifi 820.11 b/g or n ? (I think maybe a cheap b as my signal wasn't so good from my apartment (2nd floor) to my car parked in front).
4.For the mirrorlink via wifi "iphone" is mentioned, I will probably have to download another mirrorlink app as I don't have an iphone.
5.How would 4G work, with an android compatible stick & simcard in, connected to a free usb port, is an extra app needed ?
6.The radiostations can be stored is mentioned in this auction, I don't see any button to store them ? strange
7.The GPS with brackets is a bit smaller and can fall in my 2DIN, can the brackets be bent a bit that it's more firmly ?
Most brackets have some extra metal that can be bent so that it's more firmly fixed.
8.The steering wheel control, this is something that only works with cables?
Wireless would be nice, cause on the steering wheel this is a bit unhandy with cables.

i just buy the same unit too (i guess).
this is mine.
my experience, dont install car launcher agama. your unit will always hang n heat up.

i guess i can help a few answer.
1. nope. the clock not come from WiFi. its from gps or radio station because mine not is connect to any internet source.
it takes 1 or 2 minute to get the right time.
2. i'm pretty sure u cannot light up those button.
3. the gps signal is ok outside. yours was blocked by your apartment concrete slab.
4. -no idea-
5. -no idea-
6. yes. long press to save the channel.
7. dont place your GPS behind or any near the head unit's heat-sink.
8. yes. only car with button on steering.

Yes, you can In factory settings select "key light settings", check "Open light" option and click + or - in brightness (it works too). Back->Save->Done!

Well I just installed everything, gps, .... don't want to go to factory settings now to start all over...
Strange that this wasn't activated by default, but I still doubt that the keys can be lighted up, maybe you have another model
I just saw youtube videos about the best launchers and tried a few, car launcher has a nice interface, but the play/next... seem to be for spotify and not many people have 4g on their car radio.
Tried to tweak the interface, but I don't think it's possible to put a play/next/back button directly on the home screen for the local mp3's.
If I saw good, Carwebguru could do this, just downloaded the APK as I don't seem to find it in the play store anymore.
Still have to get the back camera to work, it's connected with the yellow/red plug into my radio, but I guess I still have to connect the little red cable for power or the wire "back" when you drive backwards.
Don't know if an extra app will be needed for the camera, I saw some sort of app "DVR", maybe it's this one.
So this simply is a no-brand unit ?

It is fake 8.1 GO - in real it is just Android 6.

Decent unit for the price
After trying to get a 2012 Nexus 7 mounted and running the way I wanted it to with headunit reloaded, GPS, backup camera I gave up and bought this.
Is there anyway to update mcu/android/firmware?
It works okay with just google play music/maps but for headunit reloaded on a pixel 3, it stutters constantly when maps is open.
Looking forward to hearing more about this headunit.

Great, the lights work thanks!!!
I was surprised there were so many advanced options, I will have a look if there is something else interesting to tune (but not too much offcourse
The only thing I need to do is to get the camera to work, I attached the 2 red & yellow coax (or whatever) cables to the unit.
But it doesn't work as I forgot to attach that small red cable, probably that's the power.
Also there is a purple wire on the unit "reverse", I still have to see if I can attach this somewhere, that the backcamera starts automatically.
Then opening the housing of my car to put away the 3 meter long cable and drill some holes in my numberplate.
Then testing the USB unit with 4 tire pressure monitor caps to put on the wheels, hope this will work out of the box.
The last thing I have to do i testing the 4G stick that I bought on a free usb-cable, if this works out of the box, for android probably no drivers will be needed I hope
I think i'm going to have usb connections short on this unit

how to change boot logo..i mean the car logo using my own logo..trying using by browsing the custom logo in the logo setting but when reboot it not show my logo..

Rear view cam
Dvr is for the front safety cam. Dash cam...
To connect rear camera:
Yellow chinch to yellow chinch is obvious...
But the red cable sticking out of the cable is s "signal" wire, you must plug it into "reverse" eire on the unit.
On the other end, you connect the signal wire to a plus on the reverse light (so when it lightes up he unit will automaticly switch to reverseing camera screen).
The chinch is a video wire that transmits an image from canera.
Do not connect the power wires for the camera to the ame wire as the signal wire because you'll get image flickering on working engine.

Reverse engineering the Blu Studio 5.3 dock port

Okay. It seems that Blu Products isn't going to explain anything about the dock port on their Studio 5.3, so I am embarking on a project to reverse engineer it. I'll update my progress here.

Pictures of the plug that fits it. It's the same 30-pin plug as found on the iPod and a bunch of other devices.
(Last 3 images from https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8295)
What I just ordered to work on this project:
(Again from https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8295)
Here's what I've figured out so far.
The cable from my iPod Nano 6th gen has pins 1, 15, 16, 23, 25 and 27. All others are missing. I haven't had time to analyze it all yet, but according to allpinouts.org, 1 is a ground, 15 and 16 are grounds and are tied together (internally on the iPod motherboard), 23 is USB +5v, and 25/27 are USB Data+/- OR, alternately, they are resistor-to-ground value-based signals.
My theory so far is that there is some internal resistance between the pins in this cable and other pins or ground; because plugging just the cable in--with it not being plugged into the USB port--disables the Blu's touchscreen and automatic screen rotation features and locks the screen in whatever position it's in when you plug in the cable. (Although interestingly, if you plug it in in landscape mode, you can use the screen rotation lock hardware button to put it back to portrait mode.) Plugging the other end of the cable into a USB port brings up the Recent Apps display (the thing that comes up when you hold the touchscreen home button down) and the phone says it's charging, but the touchscreen is still disabled. Not sure if it's actually charging or not; I'm gonna leave it plugged in for awhile and see. The phone does not show up as a new USB device when this (iPod) cable is plugged into the dock port.
Once I get the breakout board I'm gonna take the phone apart and see if I can trace where the pins in this dock port go. I'm also going to wire up a USB cable to the breakout board and see if I can get the phone to enumerate.
Hopefully I never toast my phone.
Edit for more pics from teardown:
Notice that this ribbon cable is 3 layers; those are little pieces of a paperclip holding them apart to show the layers.
It really looks like PDMI connector
If it IS a PDMI connector, would getting a usb-to-pdmi cable work to connect to the phone? I've never used pdmi. I know the Dell Streak has a pdmi port though.
You should open it to see what chips are used in that thing. That will help you a LOT to figure out what is going on...

I have both Dell Streak 5 and Blu Studio 5.3 and I can comfirm that the pdmi cable for the Streak does not fit in the Studio 5.3.
The ports on both are the same width and same number of pins but the Streak's pins are arranged on 2 wedges, for lack of a better term, whereas the Studio and ipods are 2 rows of pins on both sides of a single wedge. It's like the Streak has a female type port and the Studio/ipods have male type ports.
This could be some kind of dock connector that Blu has not released for our version. I've been doing some research on this phone to find the original recovery firmware and found that this exact phone is being sold under the following names:
Blu Studio 5.3
Texet TM-5200
Umeox X-Land / X-5
Pearl Simvalley SPX-5
On every "rebranded" listing I found they all had this port so it isn't just unique to the Blu. Also might try seeing if anything can be found for the MTK6573 chipset that would include this port. More info on this chipset here mediatek.com /en/Products/ featured_content.php?sn=2 {will have to copy / paste too new to post links yet}.
I've also found other indications through russian and chinese sites that this thing is being pushed in some countries as an iPhone knockoff with a custom "iOS" skin / launcher. Hard to tell for sure due to some things being lost in translation.
So to wrap it all up I would almost go for a crazy guess that this might be used on some of the "iPhone" knockoffs to fake as a 30-pin connector that may or may not actually work or only work for charging.
Its seems like its a docking port for a keyboard. I found this for Pearl Simvalley SPX-5 site found at http://www.pearl.de/a-PX3502-4072.shtml.
Now we know. I think I may import one of these to see if it works on the Blu as well. Might be disabled in the firmware though....
Just got the PodBreakout board. To the soldering station I go. Send good karma my way.
I took the entire thing apart. Everything is under full-board metal shields as can be seen from the recent post-op pic. (You can also see the breakout board.) My phone still works, so I'm not prepared to go pulling the shields off just to see what's under them. I think that the only things would be the MediaTek CPU and some RAM and Flash chips anyway. Everything else is pretty tightly integrated.
Puppeto if you get ahold of one of those keyboards please keep us updated.
Behold the wonders of voiding your warranty:
Ok here's what I've figured out so far.
1. Make sure if you take your phone apart that you reconnect all the connectors inside the phone, or else you'll spend an hour trying to figure out why the dock port won't work at all before realizing what you did.
2. Onward to real research, here's what's been found so far.
Connecting pin 15 to 16 disables the touchscreen, but there is a threshold that must be met that I haven't found yet. If the 2 pins are directly tied together the touchscreen is disabled, and if there's a 3k resistor between them it is, too. But if there's a 100k resistor inline it doesn't disable the touchscreen.
Pin 1 appears to be a ground pin.
Pin 16 is USB ground
Pin 23 is USB +5 volts
It DOES charge when just Pins 16 and 23 are connected. My next step is to find which pins are the USB Data +/-. As can be seen below, it's non-standard.
Connecting Pin 27 to ground presses the hardware multifunction button (bottom middle of the front panel)
Pin 6 to ground presses hardware power key
Pin 29 to ground presses hardware volume down key
Pin 28 to ground is an oddball. Connecting it to ground through a 10k resistor seems to start the music player AND press the hardware volume up key
Connecting pin 9 to ground with a resistor less than 4k causes a white screen followed by a black screen and the phone freezing until the battery is removed.
Audio
Pin 3 - Audio Ground
Pin 4 - Audio Right
Pin 5 - Audio Left
The audio pins appear to be connected to the same lines as the headphone jack, only they don't have the hardware external speaker disable (or if they do I haven't found it yet). Apparently, the headphone hardware triggers a software signal of some kind that disables the external speaker. I confirmed that this is the case by plugging in a set of headphones, in which case these lines still give the audio output but the external speaker is disabled. Apparently this is something that can be controlled from within Android, because there were some bug reports awhile back about the external speaker not disabling when headphones were plugged in. So we need to find (or maybe someone can write?) an app that does nothing but disable the external speaker while leaving the headphone line active.
No luck yet on getting USB working. Still hoping someone here can help me out with knowing how to monitor what's going on by using adb?
Puppeto any luck on that keyboard?
FYI received the keyboard, plugged it in, and YES it works. Didn't receive a prompt or anything when I plugged it in. I opened up a notepad app and just started typing away.
I do forewarn you though it is very cheaply made. Not something I would recommend anyone wasting their time or money on. I found it faster to just type on the screen.
Puppeto would you mind taking the keyboard apart and taking some high-res pictures of it? It would be very very helpful I think because it will have the data lines and possibly some other stuff
Please guys, is there no one trying to get flash working on this phone?

I also recently bought a Blu Studio D510, and I have an issue with play music...
I tried with several music players, and I'm still not success...
All the type of files that I tried are .mp3 and .wma
Do you know were I need to put the files in order to used the music player?
Thank You...
Can someone please provide the ROM without the bloated softwares(facebook, twitter etc.). Just the barebone os. Reason for this is I can then install apps I want and move them to memory card. More memory available.
Found this link which seems to be the ROM. Can someone verify: http://www.pearl.de/support/product.jsp?pdid=PX3459&catid=4073&nodocs=1

Its not the rom. If you are willing to try some other roms for this device (i cant find a blu rom either), search for either the umeox x3 original rom or the texet tm-5200 original rom. the umeox is in chinese and the texet is in russian but change the language in the options and change the launcher and everything should be fine. I have found the texet to be a little lighter and faster, however, i couldnt get any of the drivers to work for it. umeox uses the spx-5 drivers which windows is able to find easily. Im looking for a rom for the pearl simvalley spx-5 phone which is another clone and uses the same hardware, but i havent any luck yet. right now, though im using the umeox which also was able to be rooted with SOC and its working fine so far.. hope i could help
virustwin
Please share the link to this ROM. Thanks a lot.
Hey you all can anyone please supply me with a link to obtain the actual stock rom for the blue studio 5.3 or even a custom rom would be of great help thanking you in advance

MKV Jetta 2013 Nexus 7 Install - work in progress

Hey everyone. I have been working on an in-dash Nexus 7 install in my 2010 Jetta Wolfsburg, and I thought I would share my progress as I go in case any one else was considering this for their car. I did a similar install with the original Samsung Galaxy Tab in my 1998 BMW 540i which can be seen on bimmerforums if you're interested. Just search E39 Android Tablet Install.
The first think I did was to buy a double din kit from Metra for about $12 from ebay. I took a Dremel to this and modified it by cutting off the center piece as well as all 4 clips on the corners. Then I got some Plastic Weld made by JB weld from Home Depot and started to shape the bezel like I wanted it to be for the Nexus 7. To get this to be flat and mate with the tablet nicely, I had to take a nail file and sandpaper and fill/sand/fill/sand etc until I got it to be as flat as I could. This is what it looked like at first:
{

}
I then added more to the bottom molding to give the tablet some support from the sides as well. I think this will help in keeping it stable. These are depicted by the yellow arrows. The filing/sanding I was talking about was referring to the red lines in the pictures. I am trying to get these surfaces to be as flat as possible so that the tablet will mate closely with the bezel.
I plasti-dipped the bezel, which FYI matches remarkably well with the interior plastic. Then I attached elastic bands traversing each other diagonally to hold the tablet to the bezel. In addition, I attached magnets around the bezel, which can be seen as the black circles around the edge. I will explain why I did this in more detail as I continue with the install. I also started messing around with the tablet to make it how I would want it in the car. I am using the 2013 Nexus 7 running Paranoid Android so that I can customize every app individually. I put the buttons on the side and made them red to match the interior. One thing that I am happy about is that the way that I chopped up the bezel, I left the camera, light sensor, and notification light open to be used. This way I could even do video calls (granted I will be looking at the road) which might be pretty cool. Here are some more pictures:
I then removed the stock headunit.
This gave me more room to work. I bought a CR2-VW2 harness by PAC from one of the VW forum members. This harness allowed me to connect an aftermarket headunit and retain the stock audio system (amp, speakers etc) but did not include steering wheel controls, which I did not need anyway. I chose the Alpine UTE-42BT for a few reasons. First, it is only $88 which is very reasonable. Secondly, it doesn't have a CD player which is good since that feature would never be used anyway. It has a front auxiliary port and bluetooth handsfree built in, which will allow me to use handsfree from the tablet. I will explain the intricacies of this in a more detailed write up when the project is completely done. As of right now, this is how it is looking:
Pardon the mess, the project is ongoing =) As of right now, the tablet is running on battery, but I am planning on setting it up so that it receives power when the car starts, thus turning on the screen, and when the power shuts off, the screen timeout of 7 seconds will kick in. I'm realizing that 16GB is not a lot of space for something I want to keep music on, so I recently bought a USB OTG cable to mount external storage and I'm waiting for that to arrive. Does anyone have experience with using USB OTG that could provide some insight into this? Will Google Music pick up on the media on the USB storage and add it automatically if I use Stickmount or something like that? I'm going to see how that works out before I decide I need to buy a 32GB Nexus 7 instead. To charge it (if USB OTG works, meaning that the micro USB port will be taken), I will get a wireless charger and plug that into the cigarette lighter for power. If USB OTG doesn't work, I will power it directly using micro USB. One thing I would recommend to anyone trying this is to pick up a ground loop isolator, since charger and using auxiliary at one can lead to some interference. There should be more to come over the next week as I get some more of these peripheral supplies. It sounds great though, and the functionality is far superior to the stock headunit.
Very amazing. I've a plan to put a tablet of some sort in one of my cars! you beat me to it long ago seems like! I wanted to connect my rasberry pi to some sort of 7inch touchscreen!
but this is wayyy nicer.

Dude, leave me alone! Unless you're here to answer my USB OTG questions. Otherwise, back to leaving me alone Olley.
Looks good, but otg and charging will not happen unless a kernel supports it.
They got it working on the 2012 n7 so most likely will happen

I can confirm this for wireless charging and USB OTG. On mine the wireless charging cuts off when the OTG cable is plugged in.

Oh shoot, you can't do wireless charging and USB OTG at the same time? That is going to be a major problem for me. Well I'm glad I didn't buy a wireless charger yet. The USB OTG is working out like a charm, but I definitely need to have a long term charging solution. I don't want to have to take it in and out. Do any of you know if anyone is working on a kernel that allows USB OTG and wireless charging simultaneously?

Could you somehow use Bluetooth instead of OTG?
Options!
I made a steering wheel interface for Androids, n7 primarily.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2206156
For one, I can tell you that you can Charge and use USB OTG if you install the right kernel.
read here too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2113259
I haven't tried the pogo pins and USB OTG together, that might work. Otherwise there are a few options.
(to be clear, the best option would be a kernel that allows USB OTG and charging, at the same time. )
:good: First, probably best, Buy an adjustable regulator like this : http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/adjustable-dcdc-power-converter-125v-35v3a-p-1534.html and adjust it to 3.9Volts (lipo used in tablet works between 3.7v and 4.2v) , use the always on BATT 12v input. Then remove the back cover of the N7, remove the battery, and power it directly from the car. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+Teardown/9623/1 It looks like the black, yellow and red wires would be Ground, Vcharge and Vout, but you'd need to verify. You'd probably have to cut the wire. You might want to order a replacement on Ebay to use. You can then use tap to wake to turn the screen on or a USB micro setup like the one I made to tell the tablet to turn on/off with the key (act as if a keyboard was plugged in and you hit the power key).
Second, and most tricky. USB OTG uses pin 5 as the sense pin for Host/Client. IF you don't intend to use Host mode all of the time, like just when pressing a steering wheel button, you could use a Microcontroller to trigger the mode.
Third, Would be to charge when the car is off, and USB host when the car is on. Again this comes down to using pin5, or if you follow Kuchar09's post he has a wire diagram for this.
---------- Post added at 01:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:14 PM ----------
Sorry, I just realized yours is a 2013 version. Same deal, not sure about the kernel, but someone will make one. Also not sure about the touch control, it needs kernel modules to work, so again compatible kernel.
BUT my first option, still the best work around.
Here is the tear down http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+2nd+Generation+Teardown/16072/1 and you can see the battery still uses wires. you'll need to test what they are. Powering the tablet with a regulator in place of the battery would be ideal.

Yeah, my first thought was a wifi HDD as well. Just give it power and put it somewhere out of the way. personally, I'd wire it and put it in/under the glove box for easy media adding/removal.
I've done this in several vehicles so far.
What are you doing about heat in a parked car in the sun? At 90 outside, in my sons car ( lighter colored cloth interior ) it's approx 110-115 in the car. In my 350z with black leather, it's over 120 inside.... With the hookup you have going, making that a removable mount would be pretty easy with a pair of nice magnets to snap that entire enclosure and tab into place. Makes it nice when you have to leave the car in the sun for any amount of time, or to work on it, etc.... I've seen 1 screen physically crack, and a 2nd device just flat out die. Something to keep in mind depending on where you live.
As far as the power issues.... I use tasker. When the power is cut to the device, I force it into deep sleep and airplane mode. It will go for 2 weeks+ sitting there idle without dying. When the power is fired up, wake up ( no lock screen ), and set the screen to full bright and no timeout. No need to hack the device. A kernel for this would be great like the orig N7 had, but until we get one, this will work too.
Also, don't go BT to a head unit IF you care about the sound quality ( compressed audio sucks and if you have a good system, you'll hear the difference ). Go with a DAC ( from 30 to 300 bucks depending on what you get ). The sound quality will be much better then using the compressed BT crapola. Or even go out via the head phones, it's still much better then BT.
Just some things I've come across doing this for a few years now with various devices.
Oh yea.. and put an anti glare screen protector on it. Play with them to find the right one, or your screen will be invisible when you have glasses on. IPads do the exact same thing. Once you go into landscape mode, black screen ( put on your shades and just turn it, you'll see.... it sucks )..

How exactly do these wifi hard drives work? Can I connect to a wifi hotspot while using one of these? How exactly is the storage mounted? Do you have to use a file explorer to access the files, or will Google Music be able to find the media automatically? ie media scanner

Good advice. Yeah, that's the plan with the magnets I built into the bezel. I am going to put some metal/magnets in the cavity where the tablet will go and I'll use those to put the tablet/bezel combination in and out.

I was thinking about rolling on battery alone, but I thought it would be nice to run it from a charger. I'm realizing that there physically isn't room to use the micro USB port, so I think I will use a wireless charger. I figured I would use Tasker to turn the timeout off, turn on the wifi and bluetooth, and other stuff like that with power, and reverse it when the power drops out. I am planning to use the auxiliary output for now.

That is definitely something to think about. Are there any brands you would recommend or have experience with?
You could also mount a 120mm fan behind it for when it's hot. Heck, I bet the fan could run while the car is off and draw next to nothing from the battery. You would only need to run the fan at a few hundred rpm as well.
Fiio makes some pretty good ones without breaking the wallet. You can bypass the charging issues by just going headphone jack into the DAC, then into your headunit via an aux port (3.5 or RCA, they make DACs for each). You can go with a USB DAC as well, but I think there are driver requirements and crap to deal with on top of the power issues when hooking up via the N7s usb port. Just sounds messy so I've not tried it that way.
I pulled the HU from my son's completely and go from DAC right into the amp ( well into a crossover first so I can pull the sub frequencies into a separate amp as well ).
I kept my HU in. I just like having the 2 7" screens on the dash so I can still have full nav on the HU and music on the N7.
Oh and I just checked, the spigen ultra crystal screen protectors will cure the landscape sunglass issue. I'm sure others will as well, but I can verify these.
The hdd's create a hotspot the tablet would connect to. I don't know how the tablet would react as far as scanning media. You could soft link the files from the hard drive to the tablet if it doesn't just recognize cans play them. The Seagate is dlna compatible so it should be easy to play from.
A small fan would be easy enought to cool the tablet, you could even have a temp sensor on it, think attic fan, that would just come on automatically. Also of you follow my suggestion and remove the battery, and power it right from the car, the back cover would be off so cooling would be easier.
I run my system phone to Bluetooth (Sony sbh20) straight to my amps, it sounds great. All this bs about USB DAC's is mostly BS. The tablet has a DAC inside its what is converting the 1's and 0's to music. Yeah it might not be the best DAC on the market but I don't think its the source of bad sound quality on most any unit.
I personally am not a fan of hiding a deck just for the amp inside of it. This basically makes zero sense. However many new factory sound systems have the head unit specially eq'd to make the crappy speakers sound good. You might have to get new speakers to make a direct tablet -> amp -> speaker method sound good.
I did car audio for 10yrs I know a bit about it.

Just a place holder for now. I rec'd my test/sample unit today. I took it out of the box just long enough to snap a photo or 2 to send to a friend. Nothing detailed worth posting here yet. I'll try to take better photos this evening, and might even try to get wired into the truck.
Of note: It looks just like the NU/NR3001. Same screen size, same buttons. It also came with a dash cam with a dedicated harness/plug. I haven't investigated the underlying connection type (USB, Composite, etc).
Will post more details and clean up this OP as I do.
Thanks two-head/three-arms. Looking forward to it!

Hey. It is not clear, and where a slot for a SIM card. Look on their website in China http://www.newsmy-car.com/product/showproduct.php?lang=cn&id=75
Thanks for posting. I am wondering if they packaged the main board in an NR housing as the new one is not yet ready, and this is a sample. Just a guess as the one on the web page looks a little different and it definitely needs a slot for a sim card. Seems like they made very little change to the MCU portion if the same code runs on it; stating that based on version number. Dash camera specific slot is of course new but all other cables are identical to the ones I received with my NR. If you get a chance please test USB behavior on shutdown. Thanks!

There is indeed a SIM slot inside. You have to void warranty to get to it though? I'm now starting to also wonder if this isn't the final chassis.
I'm also very frustrated in that the only USB Connection is on one of the small harnesses and it's USB-Female A. Which means I need an Male A to Male cable to connect to my computer. Since that is technically against USB Spec, I didn't have one of those. Started to cut a few cords apart and make one, but decided to just order one from Amazon instead. Will be here in a couple of days. Hopefully I can sideload Play services and get some real apps on here, check out ADB, etc.
I can't put this in my truck until I am able to load G-maps and/or Waze and G-play Music or Power amp, etc.

Definitely looks hacked together. The main board is much smaller than the NR one. I think they would take advantage by packaging in a smaller chassis. No heatsink on the one you have; the NR one is not adequate as is if you run all four channels at moderate to high volumes.
Does it really only have 1 GB RAM, as listed on the webpage?
Be careful with the USB you order. Several people have had issues with cables longer than 3ft. You should have gotten a second USB cable with it and too bad they did not give you the 5.1 cable (sticker shows it has the output).
hello, I am also curious. the Carpad 4 has really only 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal space ?? For me to have 1 GB would be a total regression.

What I saw is a failure . The device really is not ready at all. And what they want from you? What is the test? Here it is necessary to refine the mind is still lots and lots. 1GB of RAM is not serious at all. My NU 1GB of memory and I want to buy a new unit with 2GB of RAM, 1GB is not too much and not enough.

Where do you think the SOC is? I think it must be on the same board as the sim (underneath the MCU board or on the underside) as the SOC they are using has built in 4g/Bluetooth/wifi and all the antennae are all originating off that board. I am guessing that black overhang off the back are the external 4g antennae?
This is my Carpad 4 . It has simcard slot in the unit. We need to open cover to insert simcard - this is so fun! And we have somethings more:
1- This unit haven't Chplay to install app from market; may be in final version they will update this. I have only head unit for tester
2 - xposed additions (one of the most interesting module for exposed framework on our car) will not work at all. So we can't use this exposed addition module to do something as carpad 3. We will ask Newsmy do keyeditor can function as addition xposed.
3 - Ram 1Gb - this is downgrade product from carpad 3
The good new is Camera has got verry good quantily (HD camera 720p or 1080P)

The 1GB seems to be the only real downside so far. But, that may or may not affect real world performance. I'm still trying to sort out a few things before I put it in the truck full time. Then I can see if the RAM degrades performance.
The camera additions are pretty neat, and I'm waiting to see how this 'New Yan' remote app works (I can't get logged in).
I cut their rear camera harness and tried to wire in my existing OEM rear cam (I REALLY don't want to run their camera to the back of my truck!), but that didn't work on my initial test. The front/DVR cam is pretty neat. I was able to sideload Waze, and will make another stab at sideloading Google Play services this weekend.
I'll take some more pics/videos when done.
I know some are dismissing this device due to the 1GB, but I'd suggest holding off on judgement. What myself and @ngochoangimsat have is an early engineering build. If we give them good feedback, the final product might be well worth having.

That's what I'm hoping. I still think the NR is a pretty great device with xdAuto on it (with the stock ROM I could never get it to stop reporting "Main activity has stopped".
Unrelated I am curious about the relationship between Bonovo and Newsmy. Is Bonovo a supplier to Newsmy. The MCU board on the 4 actually says Bonovo, not Newsmy!
Another test video:
I also came up with a really crazy idea. I was working on a friends NR5002 getting ready for his install next week. Realize that all the Nu/NR and Carpad4 chassis and screens, etc. should be interchangeable. I have an NU5002 with no android box to power it... and of course I prefer the 8" screen to the 7" universal so ......
Tearing them all down now.... Could be able to make a Carpad4 version of my NU5002
Well, crap. I broke it.
The 8" screen from NU5002 does work. The chassis parts are not quite as interchangeable as I had hoped. I could force it to work, but still had a few too many issues to solve, so I went to put it back together in original form. Unfortunately, the LCD ribbon connector is in a vary precarious spot and it evidently lifted away from the board at some point during my trials. I tried to superglue it back to the board, and can get video to display if I put just the right amount of pressure on the cable, but as soon as I let go, it quits.
Back to square one.

Very interesting, I too have a NU5002 and would love an 8" version. Is it still mostly empty with circuit boards on the bottom? This would help me as I need to modify the case and maybe remove the screen from the rest to make it fit in my car.
Software wise, is it lollipop with a kit kat base like I've seen other manufacturers do?
Syncing text from phone to head unit seems like a neat feature. Any idea of back porting it to previous units? Honestly that should already be implemented in Android natively.

New Pumpkin 7.1 Nougat 2GB Ram, 32GB Rom and Fast-Boot Model AS0272B

I just picked up new Pumpkin stereo and I'm pretty excited as it is my first true Android powered car stereo. I have been looking at them for a long time and the biggest hesitation that I had was the complaints that I had heard of slow start-up times. I have been looking around at stereo options for my 2003 Silverado recently, and noticed that all of the higher end name brands were just so expensive. And they are only now just starting to get the Android Auto integration. That led me to look and see if there were any new improvements to the true Android stereos. Then I came across this Pumpkin unit that had every option that I was looking for; HD capacitive touch screen, Steering wheel integration, Bluetooth 4.0, phone mirroring or Google Navigation (this has both), and a rear backup camera input.
I really haven't had a lot of time to play around with the head unit, but so far I'm very impressed. One of the things that I was concerned about was having something that wouldn't be easy to navigate for my wife. I installed last night and when she got in my truck this morning, she was very impressed. I really like the UI that it comes with stock. Some of the icons are locked, but I'm ok with that. There are a ton of great pre-loaded apps such as Torque, and the Navigation app that came standard is Google Maps. Once I get to play around with it more I may make a video of the operation to help others make a decision. The unit is just as advertised for the quick boot up times. When I first booted up the unit it took only about 15 seconds and then every time after that it comes on almost instantly playing my music.
I'm hoping to finish up the install this weekend and play around with the placement of the wi-fi and GPS antenna's. I also want to wire up the backup camera and get that functioning. I will keep this updated as I progress through installing the rest of the components.
Unboxing it:

Let me know if this is what you were looking for:
I finished up the physical install of the radio last night. My factory truck harness to the original stereo didn't have a dimmer light or switched 12v+ so I added those pins to the truck side of my harness so that I didn't have to have any extra wires to unplug if/when I ever need to pull mine out.

It's been a few days now and I am very happy with the radio overall. There are two quirks that may just be user error, but sometimes the radio app doesn't want to stay open and will close, but the music still plays? If I open it up and push another button it will stay on though? The other is I have a fairly significant amount of static when making a bluetooth phone call? Maybe I am getting some sort of interference with the radio antenna or something? Otherwise it has been smooth sailing and I'm mad I didn't do this sooner! I'm hoping to get my backup camera hooked up this weekend and then the install is complete.
Looks good, you've got a px3 processor which is different to my px5 and explains why you've got a newer version of android to mine even though the radios look identical on the outside.
Not sure about the static, they do have their quirks but there's not much that people on here have xperienced and fixed.
Pumpkins own forum also has good support from pumpkin staff.
I'm not too familiar with the hardware, but hopefully my PX3 is a good processor. That's a great tip on the Pumpkin forum. Maybe I will search over there to see if I can find out why I am getting the static.
Looking at one of these units. I notice it doesn't have a normal wiring harness and has RCA type ends on the wires. Am I correct?

I picked up one too. Not this exact model but it is the Octacore 7.1.2 version and 6.2" screen. You def have a newer build version than mine.

I am having problems with the Radio not changing frequency and not showing RDS on all my stations. Old headunit did. Also my fast bootup doesn't work all the time. Pumpkin gave me a new version to download and install, but I haven't done that just yet.

There are the RCA connections for back up cameras, and a bunch of other inputs, but there is also the regular unterminated ends that you have to solder to your existing radio or radio harness adapter. They called it an ISO plug in my instructions and I ended up cutting that off to splice on the adapter for my truck.

I'm not very savvy with the technical side of the radio for installing different versions, but I haven't had any issues with mine. The only issue I have with RDS is that when I have a weaker radio signal it will spell out gibberish, but that is understandable given the weak signal. Other than than it works perfectly and tells me the artist and song that is playing, or the radio station. As for the fast boot not working, did you hook your wires up properly to switched 12v+, constant 12v+ and ground? Make sure those connections are rock solid. I soldered all of my connections and heat shrink to protect them.
I was googling these updated units as I have an older Pyle PLDNANDVR695 and it's just driving me nuts with how slow it is and the issues I have. I came across Pumpkins new unit that is an octa-core with 8.0 (https://www.autopumpkin.com/pumpkin...screen-octa-core-with-gps-navi-bluetooth.html)
Has anyone tried this one yet? The specs look great... I realize there will always be issues with these types of head units and I really want to upgrade from my current unit but I also don't want to have a bunch of new issues to deal with.

I actually have the 7.1 unit I just bought last week. I am going to return it and get this one. Just hoping it gets on Amazon soon as my return window closes March 2nd. So far the headunit has been good. I did have to update the MCU which fixed the buggy radio. Now it works well. I also thought I purchased a fast boot unit. I did not. So that is another reason I am returning it. Takes around 25 seconds to boot. This new one takes 1 second supposedly which is awesome!
I have an aftermarket system hooked up to it as well and it sounds fine. The presets aren't bad either. I tested the headunit's clipping volume on my O-scope and I was able to turn it up to max volume without the unit clipping. Impressive if you ask me. The rule most go by is 75% max volume then do all your tuning from there.
I got rid of the crappy factory look and downloaded Nova Launcher that I use on my phone. I will be doing the same with the new unit. Though one thing is when you add a new launcher you can't add a radio widget like the factory one has. I just bypass this by hitting the "band" key on the left.

Cool, thanks for the response! A lot of the issues I have with the Pyle aren't necessarily show stoppers, but they are absolutely maddening to me. For instance, it always delay initiates my amp by like 3 seconds... I have all my fronts through two crossovers into to a JL HD600 and I have the rears hooked into the HU directly; music starts playing and then the amp kicks in with the front speakers. Could be my issue but I've had a setup like this before on other headunits and it was never an issue. Also the auto-dimming is broken and manually changing it has this really weird issue where you change it, it switches back almost immediately and you have about a 1 second window to change it again... it's almost like it has a Min & Max value of brightness and it just jumps back and forth. Insanelyyyyyyyyyy annoying at night time as you're trying to turn it down and it will just go super bright and blind the piss out of me.
Anyways, I am pretty close to wanting to order this unit anyways and just try it out. The specs look fantastic and hopefully it's just a generally better experience than what I'm having now. The Pyle was my first android based unit and overall it's been cool, I just want a bit more out of it and expect a better experience overall.

That sucks about the delayed amp. I have my remote wire from my two amps spliced into the red (acc) on the head unit which then goes into the pac harness for my truck. Soon as I turn my ignition on it powers up my amps. Though I am not sure if yours boots up quick or not, but maybe mine taking close to 30 seconds to boot my amps have time to turn on. For now I have changed the settings to where the headunit powers down after 10 mins when ignition is turned off. This allows for a quick start up of less than 5 seconds. Obviously this is for quick stops like the store or something. Overnight it is of course a cold boot.
The dimming on my is not auto either. I didn''t hook those wires up as it was a bit confusing which ones were the dimmers. Though the volume knob is actually the dimmer as well. You press it in and it goes from Bright, Dark, Off. I can adjust it more by pulling the system settings up, but the dark setting is perfectly fine at night.
I really think you'll be pleased with this unit. I am impressed by my current one and I have used nothing but top of the line Kenwood units for the past decade. I wanted more freedom in my headunit so I took a plunge at the low cost of these. Of course there will always be pros and cons. I also love using my phone as the hotspot and playing Spotify/etc from my headunit. Of course I did this with my old units but that was through BT. No need for BT now. I also don't care to have BT calling either.

I like your idea a lot about splicing the remote turn-on into the ignition on. I think my amp boots pretty quick but I will still plan to do what you've already done. That way it can also make sure that the remote turn on isn't losing connectivity and causing this 3s timeout. As I mentioned before, it's really weird because it does it for every song or transition of apps... insanely annoying.
The other question I had is how did you set yours to do remote shutoff after 10 minutes? One thing I haven't been able to do is this... not sure if my Porsche supports it or if I need to find an alternative power source that has this function built into it that keeps power for X# of minutes after the ignition is shut off.
I'm most likely going to order this updated unit this week... the only downside is I'm impatient when it comes to buying/shipping. I checked Amazon, nothing. with the updated unit There is an EBay store but it's coming from Hong Kong as well so it still has ~2-3 week delivery. I will likely order directly from Pumpkin because I want to order some of the add-on products directly from them (OBD2 and the 3/4G wifi dongle, which I'm super excited for since I have a spare, free sim).

I am not sure about the Joying units, but I would think they are pretty similar to the Pumpkin when it comes to wiring an amp(s). Usually you have a blue/white for your remote off the headunit. Though I do not recall seeing one on these. Also the subout is usually two rcas and not just one. So I had to buy a Y adapter to plug my sub into it.
You go into settings, then car settings and there is an option to turn on the option. It gives you 10 mins, 30 mins or 1 hour shutoff. It actually puts it into sleep mode. This allows the screen to turn off and not display while you are out of your vehicle for potential thieves. Hopefully I won't need to use this on the new unit.
Yes I have been trying to get ahold of Pumpkin on when they will be releasing the new unit on Amazon. I get 5% cashback and Amazon is just easier to deal with. As I mentioned before I hope they get added before March 2nd which is the last day for my return window on my current head unit. Do you not have a hotspot on your phone? Verizon is what I have and I have the unlimited plan so using Hotspot is free. I thought about grabbing the 3g/4g dongle but I didn't trust it. Testing the hotspot proved to me that I don't need the dongle. I also use the OBD2 BT device to track my vehicles sensors/gauges. Works well. Even though the headunit comes with Torque Pro already installed. I ended up having problems with that one. So I uninstalled it, purchased from App store and it ended up fixing all my problems. $5 is not bad for the app either.
Another thing I would like to add is the GPS. I am not sure if it is because I have the antenna inside the dash or what, but it tends to skip and not follow me very precisely like our phones do. I think I need to relocate the GPS antenna outside the dash and have it sit at the bottom of the windshield out of site. This is something I will test when I get my new unit.
I also just saw you posted on the Pumpkin forum, just responded to yours on there!

Yea I fotgot about that. My first couple posts needed to be approved. Though they always responded within a day. They have replied back at all and it is making me impatient. I see they have one on Amazon now https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079N9XDFT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ANVW61FB1ZGIJ&psc=1 but I am not paying $350 for it when it was $310 on their actual site.

PX5 FYT 4+32GB Head Unit from Joying - Improvements & Upgrades

Hi everyone,
Due to the lack of (and dispersed) information about these particular head units, here's a thread where we can discuss and help each other out to make the most of these units. Please note this thread is not for Sofia or MCDB/C/D/E units, there are ample threads about those. I am not a full-time software developer, so please do correct me if you think I'm wrong about something. Please do think twice before experimenting on your unit, no one else is responsible for it but yourself. I'm also dying for a custom ROM, if there's any dev making one for these, please know I'm availing my unit for experimentation. It is a powerful Unit which unfortunately is plagued by software problems which is why I believe a dev can make a better job than the manufacturer.
Also, special thanks to @surfer63 for his Joying Extra Tools (JET apk) which has been a critical tool for rooting, among other things.
I will be taking the unit out of the car and opening it up to install a heat sink and take some pictures of the insides, let me know if anyone's interested in close-ups of anything on the board.
{Reserved for Hardware}
The unit was advertised as compatible with BMW X5 and E39 (5series 1996-2001). My car is a 1997 520i with the low-end dashboard so that's the context I'll be speaking in. The unit shipped complete with adapter cables which connect to the original connectors for the radio, magnetic GPS antenna, external mic (more on the internal mic later), 2 USB ports which are permanently attached to the unit (as well as an sd card slot), a couple of flimsy brackets which screw in place of the original radio holder. However 2 screws which attach the unit to the brackets were not provided and i had to rummage around until i found 2 screws that fit. Unfortunately the original radio antenna cable on the car doesn't fit the unit, however the bundle of cables has an antenna plug with it, it's just a matter of replacing it (someday, as I don't really use radio at all).
The Unit is reporting to have an ARM64-v8a architecture and an rk30sdk board, 4GB RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage. External storage is detected almost immediately as well and I had no problems with files stored on a pendrive. The CPU tends to run hot, occasionally going beyond 80degrees Celcius, I therefore have a small fan and heatsink ordered which I will try to squeeze into the single-DIN box. Worth mentioning it has buttons and a knob on either side of the screen which are backlit and positively responsive. Regarding the in-built microphone, it "works" in theory, ie. it hears you if you tap on it, but it doesn't hear my voice even with the engine idling, let alone cruising down the autobahn. Fortunately it comes with an external mic, I'll hook it up when I pull it out for the fan job.
{Reserved for Software}
This is the latest ROM & MCU update from the manufacturer:
Android Version: 8.0.0
Build number: px5-userdebug 8.0.0 OPR5.170623.007 eng.bsp.20181107.190240 test-keys
System info: APP 1024x600 2018-11-23 08:48:14
MCU Version: 2018-11-23 16:12:28 JY_(R68*)__26_C26_CAN(All)
BT Version: BLINK_8723DS_RELEASE/2018:10:08:17:05:26
DigitalAmp Version: Unknown
CAN Version: Unknown
Serial Number: 00000000
I'm not going to give the Wifi Mac address for obvious reasons.
Cold boots are pretty quick, it's usually done in half a minute. It has a rudimentary "recovery" mode which is achieved by pressing the reset button with a needle 3 times, and after a pause, a countdown is shown under the boot logo, at which point one has to insert the SD card into the right hand slot. If it identifies the ROM on the SD card as equivalent or better, it starts flashing. If it doesn't recognise it, it does apparently nothing and leaves you with a black screen until you remove the SD card and boot it up again.
I have on several occasions attempted to flash TWRP recovery image as well on the unit, with no success.
Description of operation & issues:
Ever since the latest ROM Update, I've been having issues with the WiFi: despite the dozen wifi hotspots around the neighbourhood including my phone and home wifi, the unit doesn't "see" any until I completely reboot it.
The ROM provided by the manufacturer doesn't have a proper bluetooth menu. Despite being equipped with Bluetooth 4.0, as it stands for now, there is no proper bluetooth menu like you get on your phone/tablet/etc... a bluetooth app shortcut does open this menu but the menu doesn't offer any options or work at all except for the on/off toggle.
The CPU runs hot, it is a well known issue and I'm intending to install a heat sink and fan on it.
Several other settings menu items usually found on phones are also missing.
There buttons of course are lit up but the colour options are just 7. There is no way to choose your own colour and I don't know of any app that can do it on this particular model.
So I've opened up the unit and took some pictures before i stuck on a few small heatsinks on the FYT6026 bigger metal heatsink as well as a small fan. I've not taken pictures of what I've done, but you can all suppose how it's set up. It's pretty easy. I've got more closeups of the board for whoever wants to see them, just ask.
Hey @surfer63 or @gtxaspec @xxRaiyanxxYT do you know what the connector circled in red (4 pins) is for? It was not connected to anything in my unit. The other 2 are USB (5 pins) and the one on top (2pins) is microphone.
Sorry didnt upload for some reason.

Wondering that myself... Could it be power for a fan?
I have the same unused plug in mine.
Any info would be appreciated

What? No you didn't understand. I disconnected the plugs before i took the picture to get a clearer view of the board. The 2 plugs in the Blue circle are both for USB cables that go out from behind the unit, and the green one is for the external microphone which I also use. The one I don't know about is the one in the red circle. it was not connected to anything when I opened the unit and I'd like to know what it might be useful for.

I was thinking the same thing, I was going to hook the fan up to them but I needed to measure the voltages across those pins and my car is downstairs in the basement and I don't have a proper kit to power the it up on the bench. I would've made one but I was in a hurry yesterday. I need a whole day to mess around with it properly and find out what each part does but right now I'm working through the weekends until the end of the year. Until I get some time like that, I'm trying to gather some more info about it so I won't take it out for nothing (it's a ***** to install this unit back in the car).

I have the JY-HOS01P4
8.8" 4GB/32GB
No Hardware button at all. Not reset hole.. nada (Will make it easier to weatherproof.. )
Will at some point put a heatsink on it.. But being single DIN the room is limited...
So far I have only have it rooted and JET installed on it.
I do not think I will mess with the bootloader/custom ROM as it does pretty much what I want out of the box.
Testing different software now.
And the unit will be installed in my HD Roadglide.
So basically the sound output will be 2 fold:
Speakers driven by an external AMP so I can shut of sound by turn the amp off thru the settings
Bluetooth comms headset connected to a bluetooth transmitter taking it's input from RCA jacks
My requirements are the following:
Launcher: CarWebGuru
Radio -> will use stock app
MP3 -> Still testing players but for now I'm happy with google play music
GPS -> Osmand+ with data on SD card
Phone-> Android Auto + Headunit Reloaded (will finish testing and probably will buy.. Do not link ZLink.. even thought it works sort of ok) At this point I'm able to dial/see the phone on the radio and hear/talk with my BT headset
That is pretty much it.. Might attempt to put a DVR at some point...
I'll take a pic tonight of the board but aside from the location of that big capacitor (Mine is beside the wall of the radio) it is pretty much the same as yours.

I had to hotspot my phone for connectivity when needed but it is chewing my data!!!
I did all my downloads from work and brought the files/apk home to install.
What kind of issues are you seeing?
Which version of the latest do you have? the first 2018-11-7 or the 2nd 2018-11?
(I hate how the have they same file name.. Joying is pretty bad naming stuff...)
Hi,
I tested the header last night and got nothing. 0 power
Now, I have not had the time to play with the settings in the radio so I do not know if something would turn that on.
Cheers,
haven't tested it myself, but from my memory this red-circled connector has something to do with audio (either Ins or Outs).

I didn't realise they published the 2018-11. I downloaded the previous update, 2018-11-7. I think they published the second one after the first november update gave us issues and somehow forgot to put the full date on it. I'll try flashing that update at some point and see what happens.
