Can I completely delete Sprint from my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have an "unlocked" SGS7 edge that I bought from a friend and he had it with Sprint. I tried using on AT&T network but it asked me for an MSL code in order to be able to change the APN settings to the AT&T ones. I was able to get the MSL from someone who know more about phones than I do. After this, I am able to use the network and data from AT&T but it still has some features blocked because I can't get past the "Hands Free Activation" from Sprint. These features are the hotspot and voicemail among other.
So my question is if I can completely delete Sprint from my phone by flashing the AT&T firmware for the S7 edge onto my device.
All help is welcome.

Read the back of ur phone if it says 935u then it's an unlocked version.
Use the xda samfirm tool put
Model SM-G935U
Region ATT
It will download the most recent firmware from samsung servers.
Set to auto
Flash the files in that zip with odin.

AT&T S7 Edge on cricket, how to update?

I am using a S7 and a S7 Edge from AT&T on Cricket Wireless.
There has been at least one update for each phone that I have been unable to receive.
How should I go about getting the phones to update without actually having an AT&T SIM card in them?
I tried Kies 3, the S7 is not supported in Kies.
I tried SmartSwitch and it connects but says the phone is up to date.
Has the update been released by Cricket yet?
Not all carriers have released the update yet. Aussie carriers still haven't pushed out the update. I'm still waiting for it too.
You'll just have to be patient.
The edge isn't supported by cricket because they don't have it. I talked to Samsung and cricket and they both said that in order to receive updated you need to use the carriers sim card. So if you use an AT&T s7 edge like I'm doing you'll need a prepaid AT&T SIM(same for T-Mobile phone, etc).
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
They are AT&T branded phones and will need the AT&T updates, the Cricket update would not apply to them.
I will have to go to the local AT&T store and see if they can update the phones.

The local AT&T store will not help as I do not have current AT&T service.
My "local" best buy is almost an hour drive so I can not get much help that way.
Anyone figure out a way to update yet?

To update, download the firmware tar files & flash the phones with Odin 3.10.7 on a PC.

I thought that odin did not support the S7 and that they switched to the newer smart switch software.
If odin will work, where could I actually find the tar files.
I have used odin before with the note 2 and note 4, so I am comfortable doing it that way if it will work.

Shoot, you're right. How lame of AT&T & Samsung not to make available the tar files. Sucks, man...
The easiest way to get the update is if you have a friend on AT&T and you can borrow their SIM for a few minutes. If not, you can buy an AT&T prepaid SIM with a $10 load, pop it in for the OTA and you're good to go. Cricket rarely provides OTA updates and when they do it's only for Cricket branded phones.
Any active sim homed to at&t will work. Like tracfone, gophone, net10, etc
In another thread, theres instructions on how to download at&t updates directly from their servers.

Question about putting 935u firmware on new phone

Hello,
I got a good deal on a new sealed Verizon S7 edge, going to use on Cricket. The phone will be in my hands on Tuesday.
The question I have is can I just charge the phone and flash it right out of the box to 935U? Or do I have to turn it on and do anything to it?
Thanks for your time.
Just put that sucka in download mode and flash that u firmware
Many thanks for the reply that's what I was thinking.
Just wanted to be sure. Take Care.
I'm using a Verizon S7 Edge right now on Cricket with the 935U software. I don't have any issues.

Thanks for the information I saw a few posts about IMEI issues, hope I don't run into that. Not going to root just flash the 935U firmware. Did you have any issues with activation or IMEI? Hoping to just pop my sim in and go.

Nope. I just flashed the 935U software, rebooted the phone, popped in my sim card and the phone automatically restarted and download all of the APNs. I haven't rooted either.

That's great to hear ! I've been messing with electronics for years. First time flashing a phone, not worried about the process, just the activation. Very happy with Cricket, I don't mind my speed being capped, never bothered me, use WiFi 85% of the time.

I flashed the U firmware and then flashed the latest Tmobile, or at least it think its the latest (Baseband: G935TUVU4APIA), and all functions seem to be working properly, tested SMS, MMS, WIFI Calling, not too sure what other Tmobile functions also are related to the modem so let me know what else I should test.

Is att your carrier? If so is volte working for you? I loved the u firmware but lack of volte bothered me.
Volte seemed to have worked fine. Anytime I was on a call 4g LTE was workibg. No HD calling or WiFi calling.

ATT is not my carrier, I carrier unlocked the phone and have only used the phone with a Tmobile SIM. I flashed the U firmware and the Tmobile modem firmware on it and I have seen better reception then when I had the ATT firmware installed opposed to the U firmware with the Tmobile Modem. VOLTE is not stated on the signal but the quality is the same as VoLTE of course there would need to be testing done on my end to prove if it is indeed working as VoLTE. Any suggestions? Would love to contribute with this.
EDIT: Unless of course you were asking if VoLTE was working with ATT on the ufirmware and if this is just ATT specific and if it is the case then my post wouldn't have much addition to the thread.

Flashing T Mobile firmware on ATT

So I have seen multiple people here on the forum claiming to do it or wanting to do it and I am a bit confused. I have an s7 edge on contract from ATT. Can I do this? If I flash T Mobile's firmware on this does this make my phone usable with a T Mobile sim?

Can you advise the procedure? I'm currently permanently locked to AT&T network and would like to use a carrier (SK Telecom - Korea).
Wouldn't you still need to SIM unlock your AT&T phone to use on T-mobile network? I don't think just flashing another carriers ROM will allow you to use their network. Am I Wrong in thinking this way?

Flashing the phones firmware will not carrier unlock the device. That is tied to the IMEI. It will boot up the Tmobile software, but it still will only work on AT&T network.
Also in order to unlock the device from AT&T they will most likely bill you for the remaining value of the device as soon as you request an unlock code. You cannot take a phone from one carrier to another unless it is fully paid off.
I have an Unlocked AT&T S7 and I can put in a T-Mobile sim and it works. So why Flash T-Mobile onto an AT&T phone if its Unlocked??? My AT&T S7 is Paid for in Full.
My question is, if you do flash T-Mobile firmware on AT&T phone will you get OTA updates off of T-Mobile, like when Nougat comes out????? Also would you still have wifi calling and get all the LTE bands of a T-Mobile phone????

Yes. All the edge models have identical hardware. Their only differentiating factor is the firmware they run. I flashed the unlocked firmware onto my AT&T model and now get updates directly from Samsung. If you flash the T-mobile firmware on the AT&T device, all features will work and updates will come from T-Mobile. Same would work if you flash the AT&T firmware onto a T-Mobile variant. Or Verizon to Sprint, Sprint to AT&T, etc.

So if I flash T-Mobile into my AT&T S7, I can also flash it back to AT&T firmware should I go back to AT&T???

Well people on the S7 edge have flashed the tmo firmware on their AT&T models. Updates come from carrier on branded phones. So if you have an AT&T phone and flash another carriers firmware, it would only be branded by the physical logo on the back. It's like buying a Windows PC and installing Linux. The updates would come from Linux, not Windows, and vice versa. You could always go back to the AT&T firmware, just make sure that both firmwares you flash are on the same bootloader version.

Samsung Pay Works but Wifi Calling and Video Calling Does Not
this odin writes to userdata? So it allows full carrier switch? That's huge if true
so how does this work when its time to get an ota update? do you need to flash back to att and then flash to the unlocked equivalent or can you just take unlocked ota's to update the phone?

You do not have to ODIN back. It will update normally. It was pulled from a US Cellular Device which was sold unlocked. I have the Canada version also with the built in Caller ID to identify unknown numbers with the Samsung Smart Call feature. and you do not have to program the APN. Yall let me know if you want me to upload it along with instructions.

I have a Sprint S8+
Have tried flashing over it with this ROM and a Verizon ROM.
Both flash worked completely n ODIN but when the phone reboots, it is still Sprint.
I have seen other posts with same problem.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have tried both Home CSC and Non-Home CSC and the Userdata file was in UMS field in ODIN.

I have the Verizon variant and downloaded the Canadian version, and flashed that over completely the regular CSC, not the home_CSC. This was using the prince comsey or whatever version of Odin, and I let it reboot after. During the setup I did the same thing the other guy mentioned where you only set a pin, and select yes to boot the device with your pin. Once I got through the setup I turned on dev mode, and flashed my stock FW, which was Verizon. I selected all files and chose the home_csc from the Verizon package along with the VZW AP, BL and CP files.
Flashed them all over and let the device reboot. Once it turned on it took a minute or so to get LTE and service in general but it worked.

Thanks so much for this! Just for clarification the Unlocked US Cellular version does not have Smart Call only the Canadian version does or am I reading it wrong? Just trying to figure out the difference and which one would be best for my G955U.
Thanks!

The Canadian one is the one with Smart Call
So this makes an att phone unlocked to any carrier?
So it makes it be just like this :

I have not tried it on Sprint or Verizon I know it works on AT&T. i have ran both firmwares on My AT&T S8+ With no issues
As stated using the proper ODIN is important

Same thing happened to me. Successfully flashed but when it boots it still is an AT&T. I have the AT&T version and tried the home csc. Everything passes but it doesn't work for me. Weird
I'm on AT&T and wondering which one is better to flash. Is the only difference between us unlocked and canada firmwares the smart call feature?

Just an update but I tried the Canadian one on my device using the home.csc. Notice it does not have a UMS. It worked! The Canadian version is super clean! I am on AT&T, besides for the known things like wifi calling. Are we missing anything by not using the US Cellular version?
Thanks again, it just seems like the US cellular version wouldn't take for me but I am now happy and bloatware free.

They both will work the same. On the US Cellular version I think you have to program the APN and it does not have the smart call feature. The Canadian version does

yes the smart call feature is the only difference is the smart call feature. there is no need to install 3rd party software to get caller Id for unknowns and it still detects spam
