Aadiós OnePlus One people - ONE General

So long people,
I've upgrade myself to a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, my gf had a Lenovo A7000 phone and was in need for a new phone, I was happy with OnePlus One(running CarbonROM - android 8.1) but opportunity occur so I'll get an upgrade and she'll get a WAY better phone, so I moved on after 4 years(3 years and 350 days to be accurate ) of great service.
You won't see me a lot after this message unless someone replies or I'm super bored . I rarely would play with roms as I don't want to mess my gf's phone from now on
P.S. To the people thinking of upgrading well, stock Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S while having SD845 feels snappier but only in specific situations ...of course after custom roms I expect this to change. Unless you look for some extra things like back camera which is a lot better especially with low lighting, battery life which is better, not day/night but better. You can still have your OnePlus One, no need to replace unless you are a heavy gamer or want better pictures or a more futureproof device(I did it to help gf and have a futureproof device as OnePlus One probably won't get Android P or any future android as it's x64 only rom AFAIK ...although some might find a work-around, who knows)

i will also retire my OPO soon. currently i'm leaning towards the xiaomi mi a2.

you are wrong, nexus 6 is 32 bit phone and It got android pie

Is this board going to be wiped when the N4 comes out?

Apart from the usefull threads, can the mods wipe this and QnA board completely, it's painfully how much people are moaning about problems. I don't think I've seen a phone been complained about so much
This happens on every launch, should've seen galaxy nexus' launch with people whining about old SoC, crappy camera, pentile display and what not. Don't think they'll wipe the board as they haven't ever done that yet.

Wont really make a difference lol, the noobs would just flood the forum again anyway
i'd just want to delete "a vs b" threads - instead of being objective, they're just filled with blatant and pissy fanboyism.
The other threads will eventually die out but those always stay up on the front page. fanboy fight to the death
Most posters will wait till they actually have the phone to start posting. Once they do, these garbage opinion threads will naturally start drifting to the bottom. It's more under control than it appears. Give it a couple weeks after launch and we will be fine in here.
Yep, just normal transition...
What really bothers me is the low price of this device.
Different type of idiots will buy this phone and decide to root it just out of curiosity.
Then they will bombard "Development Forum" with unbelievably ignorant posts. Developers leave because of this. It happened in Galaxy Note forum and I'm sure it happens with every single forum nowadays.

I think it happens to all phones now days. Keep on mind that millions of devices are activated everyday so its becoming increasingly harder for XDA to enforce all the rules (like search before you post etc etc) and everyone is a volunteer, so you know ? Times are changing I guess we better get used too LOL
But god knows I agree with you, even tho I only signed up like 2 years ago I remember coming here way before that just to read, everyone here was so knowledgeable, and far ahead of my skill level, it just made me refrain from posting and look stupid ! Now ??? 60% of the things I read here are stupid answers to stupid questions that have been answered numerous times before
My first device was the HD2, the forum there was nice and helpful, ROMS where actually good and everything, Getting WP7 activated and messing around with ICS
Moved to the SGS1, pretty much same thing, a lot of new stuff was coming along at my end of the device (Gamerzrom ect)
Moved to SGS2, started off well, then everyday was a new ROM that was basically stock with 'speed mods' and 'improvements made all around' and an ugly skin
Im hoping the N4 will have a somewhat good developer base and not idiots making a themed ROM everyday.
Anyway, this is going to be a painful 6 days till I can order it ):. I will see you lot then

So i just traded my One for a Galaxy S4.....What an absolute mistake that was!

traded out of interest really, i didnt dislike the htc one, i just like changing my phones... a lot... lol, always wanted to try an S4 and what a mistake that was....
1. The screen while nice indoors, put it anywhere near sunlight and forget it
2. Touchwiz lag and bloat, the amount of crap and novelty software on there is crazy
3. The plastic back really does feel cheap after owning a One
4. Just doesnt seem as smooth or responsive as the One at all, even with the GPe rom
5. For me the battery was nowhere near as good as my One`s, when i put the one as a GPe that battery was excellent
6. The external speaker.... this had never been an issue or me before as i didnt care, but after having "Boomsound" the difference is mahooooosive
the only positive for me was the camera, the One camera really is unpredictable, good shots 1 min and poor fuzzy the next where as the 13mp shooter on the S4 provided great crisp shots all the time, thats the only thing i wish htc had done,
I`ve just been left really underwhelmed by the S4, and im now selling it on eBay after 2 days of usage to return to the One
Just thought id throw this out there for people considering trading

Issues on the Moto G (2014) XDA section

I'm a senior member of this forum. I'm 51 years old. I always used this forum for the several devices I own(ed) with great pleasure ever since I joined XDA.
This is the first time I start a thread because I need to say this!
My latest phone: the Moto G (2014), XT1068, is a great phone.
Unfortunately I can't say so about the XDA section here!
First of all there's very littlte development here. Understandable, because it's a relatively new device.
But now to my point: people here are starting threads for the most silly reasons and this morning I read a thread that almost made me leave this section and triggered me to make this thread.
I don't know what kind of people buy this device and then sign up for XDA, but I see a lot of 'unprofessional' posting. A lot of new people who obviously don't have any experience in flashing roms, kernels, recoveries, etc. Nor do they have much experience on this forum! A lot of people seem to have only signed up to know when a Lollipop update wil be there and how to get it! I'm afraid many people are just teenagers here...
I miss the threads with Orginal Developed roms, with questions and logcats to improve a rom. I miss Cyanogenmod, and all the other general roms...
Furthermore, I don't have anything against people of India. On the contrary, one of the best roms here is from an Indian: Pyr0_Bl4de with his Andro-X! But you Indians dominate the threads, not only here on XDA, but also on the Motorola Owners Forum with just asking for ETA's of Lollipop. Many people (and not only Indians) don't read and search first. They just post a question that has already been answered before.
I'm always willing to help, if I can. But somehow my patience has come to an end.
Possibly this thread wil be closed soon too. It doesn't directly contribute to the development here. But I wanted to have it said anyway.
Sorry in advance if I offended people!

"Praise Jah" YOU people..
I couldn't agree more and am probably going to sell my phone for these very reasons. Thank you for saying it out loud.
Agreed, had many phones in the past, never seen such a boring section as this, multiple threads closed down because of stupid lollipop questions, imagine how motorola must feel with the amount of owners asking about LP all the time, I want the update like most of us, but come on people, get some sleep, go out and enjoy the fresh air doing walking, sports or family things and get on with your lives.
In the process of waiting for a new phone to arrive, as much as I like the dual sim on this phone, redraws, memory problems, screen touch problems are starting to get too annoying and I think it's nearing the time to say goodbye to the moto g 2014, sadly., but I will not be loosing any sleep over it.

To be honest, I did report several posts and threads. Most of them where closed after me complaining... But I'm always reluctant to say I reported, because I don't want to be flamed for it....
I'm not a senior member and I get a lot out of this section for our great phone, with advice and tips here I've improved it considerably from stock. I've also owned other devices and XDA is a great resource for those and will be for the Moto G 2014 in due course. Patience is the key, more development will come in time, although a couple of non stock kernels and at least one ROM are already here. Enough for me to be pleased about so far.
I don't pay to attention to the kind of threads you allude to, so am happy to ignore them, it takes all sorts to create an active forum, though gw's immature outburst earlier today was classic and earned him the temporary suspension deserved, we shouldn't let posters like that spoil XDA and derail the section. The thread title is usually enough for me to know if its worth opening.
I like this place.

I am an indian, and a senior member of xda. Ported few roms for Galaxy fit as well. But i am also annoyed with ETA for lollipop kind of questions by naive users. Good Luck for Moto G(2014)

To be clear: I still like XDA! There are several very useful threads, and very good how to's! Maybe I have to learn how to ignore the 'bad' threads. Bus as they say here in Holland: sometimes I can't see the forest anymore because of all the trees...

If you thought that was bad, take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2942803
(Same OP)
The lack of any significant project work for the XT106x is easily accounted for -- an update to the next major revision is due OTA. No-one who is seriously considering working on this device is going to bother until then. And even then, it is best to wait for Motorola to publish the kernel sources.
I don't really understand the fuss about CM on the Moto G anyway. The stock environment is close enough to vanilla that I would be happy to apply Xposed (assuming it will eventually be rewritten for ART and the new framework), build a kernel with a few extra modules and useful patches, and then cook up a zip with half the gapps and motorola software removed... Job done.
It seems like 5.0 still has a few significant bugs to squash before Motorola are happy to roll it out. I'm glad they're taking a more cautious approach, rather than pandering to impatient and self-entitled kids.
I have been a member for nearly 10 years now, when XDA was a very small site dedicated to the XDA PDAs and phones back then. During this time I have seen the site grow into an extremely useful support and development forum for professionals and enthusiasts.
But now I am witnessing a slow decline in those people and a rapid increase in members who contribute nothing and complain when they don't get immediate help and don't thank you when you do give them that help. There are more and more vile trolls who stir up the community too. It's disheartening .
I am not a developer and I still see development as a black art which I would love to be a.part of. But over the years I have offered my help to those in need and spent many hours working through something technical in order to do that. Often as I said with no thanks.
I am not sure what we can do about the influx of those that spoil it for the rest of us. But I am not going to give up being a community spirited contributor to these forums and I hope you guys don't either.

For the most I totally agree with you! Still, for the past few years CM was my rom. So I was accustomed to it. It never ever crossed my mind when I bought this device, that there wouldn't be a CM for it... Call it naive, it probably is!
To make things clear: I'd prefer CM11 over stock lollipop! Even when this lollipop it's very vanilla and AOSP
Whatever, most likely there will be a CM12 in the (near?) future.
Guess I have to learn to be patient too...
@smitharro It is a sign of these times. People do not read. Do not give anything from each other. They think that it's okay to start hundredth thread on the same topic.
I'm on xda since 2008. My first phone call, because of which I set up an account here,is the HTC Wizard. I knew then that I was a noob, so I've read. I read everything possible,to not ask stupid questions, to find answers, to learn something.
People do not read and do not care about others.
Now I think that ignorance requires napalm and a bulldozer.
@rufflove i will always prefer cm over vanila aosp or stock mototrola....cm is way better than anything else out there...
and yes i am a member since 2008 ...and i used use my htc at & t 8525 hermes phone( ya that phone still working and i sometimes use it as my 3g modem).
That time xda used to be a site for windows mobile enthusiasts. (xda is name of windows mobile pda)
Now the members grown to enormous amount....
Still i think xda is the best site around to get help ...

Just simply keep watching otherwise we need to become Moderator xD.... Jokes Apart
Since my old was 5830i Galaxy Ace , i was happy with that forum it was because half of the forum was controlled by us ( RC's ) , no one was a big noob like don't know anything , even that person doesn't know anything but posting in right section helps him . In these forum when i came to see , my first observation was it is totally messed up with many new to ( ANDROID ) users get my point (ANdroid ) due to that , that members post anything what ever they think & just post .
To control these 1 . Take all over unread thread to be read and understood , then a genuine reply . ( it will take too long time not easy )
2. Or just simply reading there OP & hit report button .
3. Or just ignore them & simply watch .
I understood your thoughts , but what can we do 1 or 2 people against the whole bunch of million people so just time is a key wait for a while & we will be on track . Let they get little bit matured & understand what is XDA .
Thank You

To control these 1 . Take all over unread thread to be read and understood , then a genuine reply . ( it will take too long time not easy )
2. Or just simply reading there OP & hit report button .
3. Or just ignore them & simply watch .
I understood your thoughts , but what can we do 1 or 2 people against the whole bunch of million people so just time is a key wait for a while & we will be on track . Let they get little bit matured & understand what is XDA .
Thank You

Funny! My daughter owned a 5830i once. It came to CM 9 quite stable! Then she dropped it on a rock while riding a horse. The phone rests in peace...

NEVER BUY A HONOR PHONE - heres why.

In the beginning I would like to present you my device and experience with Huawei, I am a smartphone geek and I had many devices in my life, and the most sentimental hate I have about is Huawei, I bought my favorite Honor 7, 2-3 months after it was released, Huawei was something new for me because in those days the "flagship" Hisilicon kirin 935 in 2015-16 was cool and new, not to mention fast charging, ar blaster (remote control), 20 Mpix camera with HDR and slow-motion recording at 60fps, revolutionary thermal construction, "Hey Honor" head control, audio + Hi-Fi, several annual updates of new functions and Android from version 5.0-6.0 until ... until the moment Huawei shoves its "sales system" of new devices, in previous device brands in which I sat I had an impression that my device is "on time" but in Huawei is quite the opposite and here it gets worse. Users of Honor 7 know that the last update of Honor 7 was in November 2017. (version B396). In brief, I will tell you one thing: Huawei gives a fu** about us, even if Ren Zhengfei is reading this, let him understand that we are awake. Every device that you release and is supported until the end of "materialistic" two years, put our Honors in the trash can which means that since the last update the device gets, youre phone starts to get boring and older which brings you to buy a new Huawei, but wait a minute, I just bought my honor 2 years ago and it's not good anymore? Naturally, we look at the internet why we do not get new upgrades where everything becomes clear the processors produced for Huawei are specially designed to work only for two years! Then Huawei tells us that you need a better version of Open Gl / CL and that the new EMUI will not go ble ble ble. And then we understand such a device with pseudo-strong peripherals it loses support after two years and spending hunderds of $ isnt worth it. So the question to Huawei is why you are making the same mistakes, why you are blocking the bootloader, and why EMUI is so limited, after all EMUI can compete with MIUI or Samsung Experience, just open up for people, update our devices more often so that they do not retire at the age of 2 years. It's all artificial. For now it is the silence before the storm because I hope that people who have reached to the end of this message will understand that people who purchased Honor 7,8,9,10 will be disappointed and how they will be treated after the warranty period and the end of Android support, where unfortunately the company counts money and not users.
Honor/ Huawei are only good for hardware, the software experience is not that good, plus their partnership with XDA was just a publicity stunt, I had thought that there would be more development for the Honor devices but it's just false promises, I would have never purchased Honor 8 if I knew that there won't be any ROM development for the device
LMFAO. Wow. You posted a whining session. Good for you. Hate to break it to you but Huawei is no different than any other company. Samsung, Apple, Sony. All the same. How about you go build your own smartphone so you can find something else to complain about. Claiming that Huawei specifically design their phones to only last two years. Are you daft?! Here's a little secret for you bud, the head of honor USA (his name's Chris) has been getting all kinds of responses from customers regarding the bootloader issue, but you wouldn't know that since you are so high up on your horse. So while you might think Huawei is some evil corporation designing a grand scheme to screw people, you couldn't be farther from the truth. People like you are exactly the reason XDA has gone downhill and it's sad.

I agree with you on this, everyone on xda whines but no one does anything about it. It is an open community and anyone can make a custom rom. It doesn't take much to make an aosp rom or even a custom EMUI rom. I just don't do it because people on here piss me off. They then go on a rant session like this like we owe them something. The community has lost respect for devs we make roms and they make us look like we own the software. They request things like I am free to do what you want me to do? NO I do it out of my own time that I have spare for everyone. But when I hear people get all cry baby mode and request stuff like they want it now it disheartens me from deving at all. This is why there is no development I just make my own rom the way I like it. At least I know no one will complain and moan after.

I guess there is the option to ignore all the nonsense posts, upload your rom with no support and let people decide.
Either that or perhaps share your build scripts with those of us with some knowledge of oneplus and xperia builds, so we can build our own honor rom too
No demands intended, just trying to blag some build scripts
That's because devs aren't transparent with the users. When you just pop up with some software, of course, the users will think it's easy and takes no time. Developers are pretentious and users are ignorant. Users would have less to whine about if they actually understood what was going on half the time...That's why everyone got all this tech, but no one understands how to use it and just revert to complaining. It's only gonna get worst for devs/users down the line.
But shid, where a guide to make a custom EMUI rom? I'll make a rom for the culture.

Learning to build a ROM isn't difficult. There are literally hundreds of courses you can take, but instead 99% of users are lazy and don't care to learn. Most developers AREN'T pretentious. They simply aren't required to teach others about what they do and how they do it. That's on the user.

How can you tell an average user that creating a rom isn't difficult? How can you determine how difficult something is to someone else? You just proved my point (considering you are a dev).....Cause that's pretentious. Sure you may be right...It's not my job as a developer to teach others how/what I do, but because development is treated as some easy to do thing we are here.
Once you understand something it's easier to appreciate it...User don't understand and if we keep giving them stuff with them understanding what they are getting you created spoiled users. I'm not saying go teach every user what a dev does, but transparency is important.

I say it's simple because my 11 year old can code. Learning is easy if you put in the effort. I myself, have been developing on Android since the Motorola Cliq. So, a little over 9 years. I've directed tons of people (even a few here on XDA) how to go about coding and each is now doing it on their own. It's not pretentious (that's not the right word anyway) to conclude that ANYONE can learn with dedication and time. So, say I build a ROM then go into details about what I've done. Who does that benefit if 96% of users have no clue? So then I have to go in depth and explain what's going on. That's a waste of my time which I donate. I don't get paid to work on Android. It's all for fun. When it becomes work, I stop. There is an amazing website called GitHub where most devs upload their work and you can see what they're doing. If there's something you don't understand, then you ask. You can not expect anyone to give you anything. Like I said, ANYONE can build a ROM. I thoroughly encourage you to dive into ROM building of that peaks your interest. Sadly, majority of users don't care to understand. They just want free things and immediately.

Transparency seems to work well enough with game developers. Like I said, seeing how something is made helps you appreciate it more. That doesn't mean a user needs to learn how to make a custom rom to appreciate the process, but we can agree to disagree on that note.
However, just because your 11 year old can develop (while awesome) doesn't make coding simple. I honestly hate when people make it seem like being a developer is just a simple and easy thing. Only a hobbyist or someone who lacks passion would make that claim. I mean I know kids who can write stories, but does that mean being an author is easy? I know kids who can draw well, but does that make being an artist easy?

Actually, it does. Writing a book means you're an author. Singing a song makes you a singer. These titles are often held to such a high standard that it makes no sense. If I draw a picture, I am an artist. I don't need a degree or even to have gone to an art school. Being a developer is easy. Those who view it otherwise are the ones that doubt themselves and aren't able to set realistic goals. Or again, they hold the titles to a ridiculous standard. XDA has offered courses for coding, and those are by far the simplest. Nothing is unattainable unless you yourself put that doubt in your mind.
Earlier, I wasn't stating that users need to learn to build ROMs to understand what's going on, so my apologies if it appeared that way. But if a user simply wants to learn the definitions of certain words, or what a process is then that user should on his/her own look it up or ask. It's genuinely that simple. While it may take time, everything is out there and available but again, nobody wants to put in the effort.
Game developers post changelogs. 99% of Android developer do the same. Fixed this bug where blah blah blah. Same thing. But believe me when I say that there are tons of things they don't post in the changelogs because they know users aren't going to understand it and well time is money.
Back onto the whole Huawei thing though. Yes, companies can always be more transparent. That's a given. But, they don't owe that to us. They owe us absolutely nothing. While personally I'd love more transparency, it's generally not that easy to do. Maybe it costs them too much to maintain all the devices, maybe they don't have a big enough dev team. IDK. But, to go straight to Huawei is screwing us over is well.. Moronic. When we as users boot our phones up we agree to their ToS before even using the phone for the first time. Hell, soon as you purchase the phone you agree to it. It's the same with every tech company. Ok, I feel like I wrote way too much. So, I guess this will conclude it for me. It was a nice change discussing things with you. You don't see that often on the internet unfortunately. Have a great day

Yeah, I think I see your point. I feel my friend sums up it up pretty well...
"Easy" is subjective. Everything is "easy" with enough experience. It was difficult when I was starting, but I loved it so I kept going. I'm both a hobbyist and a professional."

I guess when I really think about it, I really just want people to learn how to be inquisitive and teach themselves. I hate this lazy user era we are in...All this tech and barely anyone knows how to use it. No one benefits from it....It's aggravating.

As much as I hate to say it, your right. I also enjoyed our conversation...I strive to carry out polite/constructive conversations with people on the internet. Normally I'm challenging people on their thoughts, but for once I was challenged and it made me reconsider some things. Thanks and you have a great day as well.
I have to say that if Huawei phone gets regular updates for 2 years than good fo you. My last Android phone by HTC had one update after release and that’s all. Somebody wrote here that every brand is doing the same. It’s not true. My very old iPhone 5s just got a new system like any other newer iPhones. It will get normal updates until end of iOS 11 in September 2018. 5s was released in September 2013, so 5 years of constant updates... On the other hand will you be able to live with one phone for 5 years ?

Agraceful mentioned Apple. There is a really big deference in that regard between Android and other OS’s. Windows phone were also supported for a very long time. I think the cause of the problem that people do not care if they have newest google security updates, support is not good to advertise. What is or was good to advertise are the numbers. Screen size, pixel density, processor speed, aperture of the lens. Numbers are important but more important is software and developer support after you buy phone. Htc 10 had some minor flaws which were not polished at all because they did not care... Best phone with Android I had in that regard was Asus ZenFone 2. Asus did not update Android from 5 to 6 fo a very long time but 5 was polished with a constant updates, phone had a one or two month old security patches no older. I wonder how it looks in Huawei.

I don't get it. They now have to update to new security patches and we have been promised Oreo and they are already testing in China.

Lol, well perhaps more people could try harder to learn, but wild generalisations don't really help anyone.
If you have family and friends in the arts or engineering etc, none of them know what a ROM actually is, nevermind to actually build one.
You are assuming a level of computing understanding that is just not as wide as you appear to believe.

It would be appreciated if you guys can lower the tone a bit. There was at first a "polite/constructive conversation" but it derailed quite fast.
Not sure if your whole conversation has something to do with the thread topic, but please stay civil, any time.
Also, if you see posts which break the rules, please just report them, don't reply in threads.

With all that being said, I, personally, will never buy a Huawei and some other brands phone again because they simply will not let people unlock the bootloaders.

To provide better user experience and avoid issues caused by ROM flashing, the unlock code application service will be stopped for all products launched after 2018-5-24. For products released prior to this date, the service will be stopped 60 days after this announcement.

Incredible phone for the price. Shame XDA is not becoming the central sharing platform it was for phones I used in the past.
Partly because of that a very efficient community on telegram!!! Just took for Lenovo Z6 pro group on the app. We are already 300 members, and lots is going on there.
How to get 3 page and where
If we had a big community, it would be easy, but we don't have it... I thought this phone would be a best seller, 230 € for a sd855... It was a miracle, but now, i'm looking to sell it, :/ no updates, always bugs, can't use some features, and i think it has a lot of backdoors, seriously , when it will sold, ill try the poco 2

Here is the Lenovo Z6 Pro Forum link with many custom roms : https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-z6-pro
There is also a big community in Telegram : https://t.me/LenovoZ6ProChat
And one last advice : don't sell your Z6 Pro because the best is yet to come
Do as you wish my friend.
But you totally missed the fact that despite the community being small, it is great !
We now have many great 100% stable custom roms.
For the price this is a GREAT phone and even better with roms like RevengeOS or Havoc only to mention 2.
Good luck with your sale.
