Swipe up twice gesture with custom launchers - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

While using Android Pie...Using Nova launcher I don't get the swipe up twice gesture to bring my app drawer up. There is also no recents bar on first swipe up. Switching back to stock launcher makes it work again. Does anyone know a workaround to get it working on custom launchers?

I got the recent with APEX launcher but not the app drawer.

Be aware not all apps are completely optimised yet for P

I use Nova works for me. I only use the single swipe up function for apps. How is it even possible without using 2 fingers to double swipe up?

I'm using Nova as well, 6.0 beta 1.
First swipe up on pill gives me overview apps.
Second swipe up or long swipe do nothing.
So, I just set the home pill to open the app drawer ?
So, two quick taps on the pill and I'm in the app drawer.
From what I've read this is because the new app drawer is contained in the launcher itself.

I would like to use the pixel launcher

On my phone with Nova 6.0 beta3, single swipe up from the dock, not the pill, will bring up the apps. Single swipe from the pill brings up recents. My phone is on Pie, locked and unrooted.

How about performance, animation, customize, unread count and other?

I actually use the default TW launcher. Customize the grid size, slap a theme on - it seems pretty damn smooth this time around.
Action Launcher 3 is my go-to besides that. To me it's the Google Experience Launcher + the tweaks it needed.
Nova Launcher has custom resizable grids, custom scrollable dock, and a host of animations and is very fast.
But the reason I can't live without it is gesture support. I can double up every icon with two functions depending on tap or swipe up. I can do this on any icon, any folder (tap opens the folder, swipe up opens the most used app in the folder), and even the icons within the folders. I can pull down the shade from a swipe down motion from anywhere on the screen instead of reaching for it. Through the use of swipes, folders, and a resized grid, I have every shortcut I need on a single screen. I only scroll to the other screens for widgets.
Flow Home Beta. Because it's everything I need right there on my home screen without having to open multiple apps to get the same info.
We're already discussing that here:

This, plus LMT, is my approach as well.
Thread closed.
As already mentioned, there is considerable overlap here with the discussion in this thread - let's try to keep the conversations unified and what not - thanks!

How can I swipe down from anywhere for notification panel?

I know nova launcher offers this, and I know you can use the fingerprint reader as well.
Is there an app that allows for this feature while leaving the stock launcher intact?
This thread didn't offer any solutions.
Thanks

This is unrealistic. Because swiping down in other apps has different functionality. Even in the app drawer of Nova you can't swipe down to pull down the notification bar.

I'm sorry I meant from my home screens, not inside apps
Well, even the launcher is more or less just an app.
You have to use other gestures or remapped buttons to make this work. The thread you mentioned offers one possible solution. Give it a try, I'd say.
Btw: Your fingerprint-scanner can do this also.

HELP: Hide Navbar on S8 Touchwiz doesn't work after installing Nova Launcher

So I stupidly installed Nova Launcher just to try it out. Discovered the inability to hide the navbar on my homescreen problem (seriously teslacoil? not cool).
Spent ages searching for a way to get back to where I was.
Installed Nova Laucher Beta 5.4 beta 3 which allows it to be hidden whilst using nova laucher but still isn't hidden if I go back to touchwiz! I can see the hide button inside apps and it's working (navbar disappears, just swipe up yo see it) everywhere but the homescreen.
VERY frustrating. Anyone know of a fix for this?
I just want touchwiz back the way it was with the navbar hidden on the homescreen
EDIT: Just to be clear - Navbar was hidden on the homescreen using Touchwiz before I installed Nova Launcher. Isn't now.
Latest beta Nova launcher supports hiding the navbar.
Install it then go to settings > look & feel > notification bar. You will see it there.
Can't help you with touchwiz as I've literally never used it

Gestures and third party launchers

I'm thinking of getting the 6T but have a few queries.
I like the gestures but do they only work on the stock launcher or do they work ok in nova launcher for example? I tried the mate 20 pro and the gestures didn't work well unless the stock launcher was used.
How much customisation is in the stock launcher? Can app names be edited or flow into 2 lines? Can you make folders, what size grids are available etc?
And finally can you change the shelf to be the Google feed instead?
I'm using the gestures with Nova. No issues. T-Mobile 6t
The gestures are OS level, not launcher level. I'm also using Nova with my own custom launcher gestures and I've had no issues with inputting either sets of gestures.
Gestures are working with nova, but not as good as stock:
-on stock, when you go home, animation shrinks into an app icon
-on nova application shrinks to the center of the screen. Also homescreen icons are present on this animation, while nova appears when it is over. I hope, they will fix it.

Gesture nagivation + 3rd party launchers BUGGY MESS - any way to fix?

I know gesture navigation in 3rd party launchers is suppose to work on oneui 2.5 on note 20 ultra. But it doesn't work very well at all.
1. Swiping up to get to recent apps is not a very smooth animation, but worse is that the current app gets positioned in the middle rather than to the right, so quick switching is cumbersome.
2. Trying to use the swipe right on the bottom for previous app is a buggy mess. It's unsmooth and pops in the recent view briefly. Often you get stuck and cannot use the app you switched to, needing to swipe back and switch back and forth to get normal operation again. After trying to use these swipe right/left gestures to quick switch apps, you cannot scroll through the recent apps view quicky anymore, one swipe always mean moving one app to the left or right no matter how strong the swipe. This stays until rebooting.
It's a buggy mess, is there any way to fix this? I'm using Nova, but the problems are the same on all 3rd party launchers.
it might be improved with Android 11
I'm using lawnchair and don't have any of your issues. Only issue swipe to home conflicts with swipe up for app draw.
Everything else works fine. I do think recents menu trigger too easily tho. I get into it when I'm trying to go home.

Oh. I'll have a look at lawn chair and compare the experience. Seems strange how there would be different results in different launchers. Trier Microsoft launcher and it worked the same. I'll make a video of the issues if they turn out being the same on lawn chair.
I just installed the Microsoft Launcher and yeah quite some few animations are missing, plus recent apps are showed blank until I swipe between them.

I just tried Lawnchair and it acts exactly as Nova: the recent apps is buggy, no difference.

This is one of the bugs when using a 3rd party launcher and from my understanding, it doens't matter WHICH 3rd party launcher: they all exhibit this behavior when using gestures.

I realised why i don't have your recents issue. I use good lock's task changer. I just turned it off and saw what you meant.
With it enabled the background in recents it from the app your in not the home launcher.

Oh so the good lock task changer is working better in this regard? That's interesting. Is the quick task changer working better too? (swiping right or left on the bottom, browsing previous apps without going through the recent screen)
Is the good lock task changer available for oneui 2.5?

I don't have any issues so you can give it a try and see how it goes. Yes, its all in the good lock app.
But animations are part of the launcher so its totally normal that you won't get the same effect from a third party launcher. My gestures work fine with Nova. No issues here. Animations are different but its a different launcher so that's to be expected too.

Just install an app called gesture control
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.conena.navigation.gesture.control
You can create your own gestures and it is not affected by the launcher

Do you use good lock as well? Animations are OK as is i guess, it's the bugs that bother me. Stuck screens, glitches etc.

Looks interesting but there are missing features like a swiping left or right to move between previous apps, also there's usually issues specific to this kind of solution. Haven't tried it though. It may be a viable alternative.
This app compare with the other has an advantage, that you set up the app how you want to. if you want to have left or right to go back to last apps you can do it. Like for example I have it for mine
Bottom center click
Go home
Bottom center click and hold
Google Assistant
Bottom center swipe up
Recent apps
Bottom center swipe left
Go back to last app
Bottom left swipe up
Last app
Bottom right swipe up
Recent apps
Buttom Left and right side of screen
Go Back
Top Left and right side of screen
Lauch apps
All but the buttom center are transparent
I'm using a combination of Nova gestures and One Hand Operation+, set system navigation to buttons, double tap navigation bar to hide system buttons.
Swipe up from bottom and nav / home button appears.
Use side swipe in OHO+ for back and switcher.
Use nova on home screen, swipe down for app search, swipe up for switcher, double tap home screen for notification / quick settings.

Just tried swiping right in Nova and you are totally right it is glitchy. Unfortunately it summons the recents functionality and your left with a hybrid of recents and previous page so i can swipe up to close a page thats in full size. I had never noticed because i dont really use that functionality.

Just tried good lock app switcher. Seems to fix the glitch

For those that cannot run Good Lock (such as myself, since it is not running in my country) you can give Nice Lock a try, helps you run Good lock services anywhere
One Hand Operation+ works very well and uses very little battery.
Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu, my favorite gremlin exterminator.
I'm running nova. Not getting any bugs or errors.
