Device locked by forgotten pattern - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi,
I tried to change the pattern of my device, it seems that I didn't set what I thought and now that I restarted my system, the device (Android 7) is asking my for a pattern to let me turn it on, that I don't know.
Of course I'm the owner from this device, with my Google account and everything but I made a misstake and I don't know how to fix it.
What are my options now?, Should I restart the device with recovery options, wiping data user and that or what do I need to do?
Regards in advance.

Do you by any chance have TWRP installed? If so, there are certain files you can delete to remove the pattern.

Try it enough times and it should offer to unlock another way, then use your Google account.
And don't use pattern unlock... PIN an fingerprint are fine.

[Q] How to unlock the screen with fingerprint?

My Samsung S5 (SM-G900F, 4.4) device has a fingerprint scanner to unlock the screen. It was working perfectly, but now it only asks for the alternative password, but I forgot it. I tried on the Google webpage to lock my phone, I hoped that the password given there will be overwrite the alternative password on the phone, but it said, that it found the phone already locked, so no need to use the password. I don't want to do a factory reset if it possible, how could I get the fingerprint scanner to be an option again, or somehow unlock the screen and use my phone?
This happened to me today in the morning on my S5 mini with stock OS. At first I typed in the correct alternative password, but it was not recognized. Latter I successfully (?) changed password with "Lock" option on Android Device Manager, and it didn't help either...
At the end I did a factory reset and lost all my data
Is this a common bug? Should we report it somewhere or something?
After too many failed fingerprint attempts, it will only ask for the password
Maybe someone else has been trying to access your phone
Factory reset to regain access if you don't know your alternative password (Probably a good idea to write that down)

Yes, you are correct. I tested this again, and I think that, in the morning, I really used wrong password . And the first time I didn't notice the displayed info, about password already being set, on Android Device Manager site, when I tried to change the password.
Thanks for the replay

[HELP] I Forgot My Pattern

Hi,
I was changing pattern. Somehow I applied wrong pattern and then locked phone.
Now I can't unlock with fingerprint. There aren't any connect Google Account button even I am connected to internet mobile + wifi.
I didn't install TWRP and my phone is not rooted. Are there any way to unlock without losing any data? I can do anything possible (like root or install twrp) if I wont lose data.
wont a hard reset work
Without TWRP you can't do much...

That will delete data.
Unfortunately, hard reset is the only way out of this. Since the data on the phone is encrypted, you require the pattern to decrypt the data in order to access it. This also includes access to the hash that is generated by your fingerprints which is why you need to enter your PIN or pattern on startup before you can unlock with your fingerprint.
Bottom line, never ever forget your backup authentication method!
Edit: I can't guarantee this will work, but it's worth a try:
Visit https://www.google.com/android/find (Find My Device)
Log in with your Google account
Click "Lock" and enter a new password.
Try that new password on your phone.

Need help please

So my friend has this device, so he locked his device with a pattern lock and didn't set his fingerprint...and now he forgot his pattern i don't know how...now he needs to unlock his phone and doesn't want his data to be deleted i.e he doesn't want to factory reset... Can anyone help with this issue?
Any help will be appreciated.
Not sure if it's true for pattern as well, but with Fingerprint, you need to enter a pin after reboot.
With other words, after re-boot you do not need a fingerprint.
You can always re-install the FW with MiFlash-Tool and click 'preserve data'
This takes 10 minutes or so ...
This might help.

But if it's updated to May unlocking the bootloader will wipe the data.

My kid changed lockscreen pin

Hello there, I'm using OnePlus 6t on OOS 10, somehow my kid changed the lockscreen pin and now forgot.
I've read multiple threads and asked a lot of people, but there seems no method to bypass the lockscreen pin.
I'd some important files which I couldn't backup/ not until my last backup.
Is there any way possible to recover my files after a hard reset as that's the only alternate i can think of without bypassing lockscreen without root.
FYI: Bootloader locked, currently locked, haven't hard reset yet, usb debugging off.
Nope, if you hard reset you lose everything. User storage is encrypted with a per-session key that is wiped when a reset occurs meaning everything on the phone becomes useless garbage the moment that key is lost. If you have adb enabled and have authorized your computer once before you might be able to pull files off using that but otherwise you might be screwed
The lock screen is designed to keep people out, wouldn't be much use if it let people exfiltrate data whenever they wanted
Don't even think you'll be able to get the pin off the phone. When you reset Google asks for the old pin used in the device.
If USB debugging is off, I don't even think you can flash stock firmware onto the device either.
You're pretty much screwed.
The best way to do is MSM tool. If you don't know the password your can't even get in to recovery mode( required password). By doing that all data will be gone.
