Low light - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Real Life Review

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

As I test this device's camera, I think it's one of the weakest things this device can do. Noisy and blurry for a low-light shot.
Edit: I wish I have to reconsider/edit my rating as I also test my family's Vivo mid-range phones without enhancements but HDR (to compare with) can take pictures in low light even worse than this MI A2 Lite, although it's still noisy.

Very bad results with low ligth

I have yet to revise this review again that, due to custom ROMs that fixed GCam focus, manually adding cam2api and GCam, the low light shooting did improved, although sometimes blurry, especially without tripod; but there's a huge improvement over stock anything.

Try painting what you see in low light. I'm sure you will get better results than the camera on this phone.

Really good at night, and the noise reduction is pretty good. The night mode tends to oversharpen and mess up the white balance. However, it still adds a ton of dynamic rabge and if held steady, gives you very decent shot half the times. It can't always nail the exposure though, Google does that better with night sight.
Non night mode shots are usually a bit underexposed to save the highlights from blowing out. Sometimes, the Auto Hdr will kuck in , and you will have to hold your phone steady for a second.I find taking hdr pucs rather slow with p20.
There is a decent amount of detail, but sometimes the oversharpening can make it look bad, but of course p20 pro beats p20 by a decent margin because of the quad bayer pixel binning.
The manual mode is really handy for low light. You can even shoot bulb mode(super long exposure), the iso range 50-3200, exposure is +-3, same for the monochrome camera. Manual focusing sucks with the stock camera, as there is no focus peaking.
I prefer using OpenCamera HDR for daytime, it's way better than stock camera app as long as we are talking close to base ISO.

I can confirm the results from the P30 Pro over here for the P30: https://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin...vs-iphone-xs-vs-samsung-galaxy-s10-vs-lg-v40/
It is no contest compared to other phones. It can basically see at night.
Low light or NO light photography is unmatched. You can virtually see in the dark.
During the launch event in Delhi, I was able to get my hands on for short period of time and this is what I could capture quickly in the completely dark room. (there were other better shots captured by the device). This is the one I recorded quickly.

can you put some more pictures in low light? I considering to buy p30 (not pro version)
Seen tests with the latest smartphone models such as OP7/OP7 Pro, Mi9/Mi9T or Zenfone 6 2019 and none can match the P30 series in low light conditions. P30 does also have a huge benefit of being smaller and does not feel like a brick in your pocket such as the latest flagships.
Why there is no thread for Huawei P30 lite? Nothing can be found.
It's really great in low light! The moon looks unrealistic, maybe because of using ESRGAN to enhance the photo, but still great.
Sucks at greenery

Low light photography leaves much to be desired. The rear camera performance is satisfactory but for the front camera, without any proper flash, low-light selfies leave much to be desired. The photos taken in low-light are sub-par to be honest and can be improved much more with better optimization is software since the sensors are already very good in my opinion.

I'd say it's not bad considering the price, but it surely suffers badly in these situations. Gcam helps it somewhat though.
I capture beautiful photos with Gcam, but the stock camera application does not take beautiful photos in the evening
i have captured stars, even the comet Neowise with the stock camera in pro mode. i am satisfied with the results.
Camera is not really usable in low light, unless taking portrait shots with flash. But then again, you can't expect anything at this price.

Rather Poor Low Light Photos
I've been using this phone for a few days. My previous daily is the Pocophone F1.
In comparison with the F1, I'm disappointed. Using both default and GCAM camera apps, the low light photo is horrible.
In the GCAM night mode, the photos would not be focused and super low res. It looks like it was taken in a 2-5 megapixel camera and upscaled. You can see whats happening in the scene, but no fine details at all. In the Pocophone F1, I could still see some details doesnt look that upscaled.
In the default camera app, the picture would be darker, again no fine details and looks upscaled.
4/10
