Disadvantage to use LineageOS instead of original rom ? - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've ordered a Shield TV in replacement of a Raspberry Pi3 for use mainly with Kodi and Netflix. I'm very familiar with Lineage OS on my phone and really willing to use it on the shield TV (and root the beast by the way), I know all the advantages of LineageOS (privacy, more control, less Google or manufacturer base app...), but is there any disadvantages ? Function that will not work, app or services from Nvidia that I will not be able to install ? Change in interface that is not as good for TV ?

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but this is specifically what I am looking for and came up first when I searched Google.
@Eluc - Did you get ever find a good pros/cons writeup? If you installed Lineage do you have any feedback after installing?

GridOS ROM?

Hi everyone.
I've seen a video of GridOS today. It's a new OS based on Android Kernel developed by a tablet company. It looks really slick.... any of our cookers knows or is interested in porting that OS to the Iconia? The desktop is superb!
Cheers
If someone provide a dump we can try to port it, but with no dump it's quiet impossible! Maybe someone with a Grid10
---------- Post added at 07:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:40 PM ----------
We need also something built for Tegra 2!
Lenovo
Could the Rom from the Lenovo be ported to the Iconia? I believe the dump is already available.
I can give a look, but I don't really like portings, they give alway a lot of bugs!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G870W)

Hi Guys,
I used to have the Nexus 5 and loved the smooth stock Android experience but it broke so I decided to upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active since it is much more rugged. I am very unsatisfied with the Samsung experience so far since my Nexus seemed much smoother and stable. I've played around with rooting and custom ROMs a few years ago with my Samsung Galaxy S2 so I am somewhat familiar/comfortable to install ROMs but I don't find any for the S5 Active. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction to find one? Or else I'm willing to do/extract whatever is required to build one. I'm also opened to trying to build my own custom ROM but would need to be pointed in the right direction of a tutorial or guide to get started. Any help will be greatly appreciated because I absolutely love the hardware but hate the software on this phone, maybe that's why Samsung sales are slipping. So many pointless bloatware!
Slicster
I would appreciate help too
Yes there is one.

Have modified à s5 base Rom to match

I know I'm late on the answer .

[Q]Porting SM-G360H CM13 or any other rom to SM-G361F??

Hello there. I was wondering if it is possible to port that to this variant. Also is it possible to port J5 marshmellow rom to g361f? Since they both have the same CPU right? I know the screen resolution is higher on the j5 but wouldn't that be fixed by adjusting the DPI size? I am new here and i don't understand much about android stuff. Would someone be nice and explain me a little bit?
Thank you.
Hi,
I don't want to be negative but no developers want to work on this model: it's a stock model, hard to modify and not interesting and popular enough to work on.
Personnaly I also got this model and one of my main project is to create a modification of the pre-rooted firmware for this model. But the problem are:
-I am new to application coding, even modifying the XML of an app will be a pain in the a××
-Deobfuscating, dexing, building, reconstruct...
Horrible, just horrible. Creating or even Re-Creating a ROM is everything except easy and funny.
-If I succeed (in 3 years, maybe) this will only be for my build (AOG1) because I'm too lazy to work on other builds and I would discontinue it quickly because I would prefer buying another smartphone with more available and interesting ROMs
So be like me, stop hopping.
I saw a thread what exactly you looking for.just search a littlebit around

Btw.do not port any rom that not mensioned in the OP.you will brick your device

Porting Flyme OS 5 from Meizu M3 Note to UMi Super

For all UMi Super lovers out there,
I am starting this thread as a beginning of my project to port Flyme OS 5 from Meizu M3 Note to our beloved UMi Super.
Here are some facts:
1. As many of you with some Custom ROM development knowledge know, porting from one device to another is relatively easy and certainly possible between 2 devices with similar specs - such as display size, RAM size, ROM size, CPU and so on...
WELL GUESS WHAT - turns out M3 Note and UMi Super run off the same processor, have the same amount of RAM and both have 5.5", 1920x1080 (401-403 PPI) displays.
2. Flymoe OS 5 is an excellent skin of Android 5.1, supporting many advanced features such as background task management. More info here: http://www.flymeos.com/
3. UMi Super - although a brilliant device, lacks support from developers massively. In return, this means there is very little optimisation available. This project is intended to kick start further development for our device.
4. I have limited experience and knowledge with porting ROMs, hence I would appreciate and share credits with anyone/everyone willing to help me develop this port.
Cheers,
Cr1ms0n
nice project! I'm noob and have zero experience about custom Rom but if you need help feel free to ask
Plz , I want flyme is in my umi super ... Do it :/
Plz , port this ROM FASt
Previous post was few months ago, don't this is happening Victor
Could this be it?
Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure I'm onto something here, however like I mentioned in posts earlier I have very limited porting/Android development knowledge, let alone time and energy to fiddle around after long days of work.
Nevertheless, I am attaching all links I researched (took a couple hours) and found - I think something can be cooked out of all the ingredients below, it just takes the right chef!
Hence I'm leaving my knowledge and research to someone with more time, knowledge and experience with Android development than I have. I hope someone can take over this project and deliver a nice ported version of Flyme OS 6 to our beloved yet well under-supported UMi Super!

This is all I found. I tried cooking the ROM myself but gave up at 4am one night. It might not be all information required, I don't know... Either way, it's a start so I hope it can be useful!
Cheers guys, good luck! :highfive:

Rom For SM-T235?

Is there any new rom for SM-T235 since the last one CM13? Can someone do new lineage OS much appreciated Thanks.
If only just the internet here in the Philippines is kinda blast, i could have builded one I already have an Ubuntu installed alongside windows and it sits there over a month now.
---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 PM ----------
There's a Lineage13 for T235, look for AndyYan's post (link) in the last page or second to the last in CM13 post by CTXz, it is a Marshmallow build under Lineage.
prokiller1199 You can build one, you just need a lightning internet connection. Maybe 50 Mbps or 100 Mbps for faster transfer becuase of the large Lineage sources that could grow up to 65GB on your Ubuntu OS.
First go to the last page of CM13 post and look up for AndyYan's guide post for building Lineage. But before you follow the guide, make sure you have a github account as you will need that later(U will be asked before you can sync the source) and you already installed Ubuntu alongside Windows( I don't recommend using VM because it can slow your building process even with 4GB of RAM). Make sure that the partition of Ubuntu is 125GB or more as you will alot several GB for the speedup process.
