Oreo stock recovery ze520kl - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Does anyone have the stock recovery Oreo for Asus Zenfone 3 ze520kl?
I need it to upgrade my rooted phone since I'm getting error "can't install this package on device version less than...".
I know I can download the .raw and extract it, but I don't have PC to do it. Using phone I couldn't find any app which allows me to extract.
Thanks for your attention

Yes, it is outdated, but it might be really useful because there are stock recoverys from ze520kl oreo version.
I believe you can extract files using 7-Zip.

Sorry for answering so late.l, but here we go.
You don't have the correct file. What you have is just a file to update your phone. You need to download .RAW firmware if you want to extract stock recovery.
What are you planning to do? If you phone got bricked (like infinite loop) you can easily use that virtual folder and use the latest available (there) recovery to put your phone in normal, trust me, it'll solve the problem.
But if you really need the .RAW files, here you can some Oreo examples, not the lastest, but also work.
ZE520KL: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y5OVqmmAjb5PWZ6sKknzP0YnQHGyDxD0/view
ZE522KL:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DInYnZ4hLICjI_-cZ-NvUC_Vpzc_FnPO/view
And, in case you need some stock recovery for ZE520KL from that virtual folder, try these for ZE520KL:
[1803.55] https://mega.nz/#F!lw02CLpA!hpetR2-Sec1F__gHPNRE9Q!xhVEhCjB
[1804.61] https://mega.nz/#F!lw02CLpA!hpetR2-Sec1F__gHPNRE9Q!RgFnSKwZ
Again, I don't know what are planning to do, so my answer might not be useful. xD

Many thanks, I just wanted to know how to extract the "recovery.img" file from the .raw file.
But I realized that I was looking for the wrong file, this print I sent is from the stock rom firmware file that comes from the Asus website. (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/ZE552KL/UL-ASUS_Z012D-JP-15.0410.1806.68-user.zip).
Where can I find this ".RAW" file that you put there on the link, has it updated on the asus website?

@mvini_ab
Why don't you just skip the stock recovery and flash it thru twrp? Editing the updater-script bypasses the error you're getting. That's how I've been doing it for years, no issues, you just have to flash magisk or superSU afterwards.

You can't find RAW files on official Asus website.
That was the most recent RAW firmware I could find.
You can flash that and update it through the phone in settings -> system -> update

Put your phone in droidboot mode by holding volume+ and power and then use flashtools.

I honestly don't know how to do it. Never read any tutorial teaching that. Furthermore, I don't have computer/laptop (poor enough for that), just my cellphone. =\

@mvini_ab
I've done it through my phone before with rootexplorer, it's annoying but it works. Open the updater-script in the rom zip, it's located in META-INF/com/google/android/. Be careful, there are two files in that directory, you want updater-script not updater-binary.
Open the file with a text editor, delete the first few lines, pretty much up to "ui_print target asus ww_phone release keys", and then save it back into the rom zip and flash it. I think I had to extract the script, delete it from the archive, and then add the edited script back to the archive when I was done.
Flashing magisk and wiping cache/dalvik is all you need after flashing the modified stock Rom through twrp.

Cant flash stock rom

Hi guys. M currently usimg Nephilim Rom V2. I was trying to flash b594 stock rom. Whenever i tried to install it with stock recovery it just says no update.app is found. Even though i extracted the update.zip file and put it in internal storage in dload folder. I cant even flash it through fastboot because it gives error even though i extracted the img files through Huawei extractor. Can anyone help!!!!
What kind of error fastboot method gives you? I always have went back to stock rom by flashing a rom in fastboot and never had problems with it
While flashing system.img i got error cant load system.img. even though it's in the same folder as adb is. There was also an error whule flashing recovery extracted from update.zip. i was flashing the recovery.img only and it says errot:too many links.

Done that to same result...
So you want your original firmware correct ? If so , go here: http://consumer.huawei.com/nl-en/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=82749
Change region (if needed) find your phone and download that.
Once you downloaded it:
1. put it on your sd card
1.1 Since when you download the file, its gonna be in .zip or .rar format, you are gonna need to extract that and what you get out of that file (its gonna be a folder called dload) put that whole thing "dload" on to your sdcard. ( put in in a main folder of your sd card its called root folder, its where your main folders are like pictures, DCIM etc.)
2. turn off your phone leave it for a sec
3. then hold all 3 buttons ( power ,volume up , volume down) and it should start installing the thing.
Hope this helps.

Are you able to install stock recovery through adb? If you are, you can easily use Huawei's recovery to flash the stock firmware

Top right download full update it'll download once you hit that and remove the proxy but it won't get authorized when you go to install it.
Well the good news I see out of this even if we cannot install is that the update is finally coming after 2 months of the other versions enjoying it for that long. Hopefully it fixes the battery drain.

Thanks for the find! Your file sizes are off unfortunately, they should be:

622MB - update_full_FRD-L04_hw_usa.zip

Likely you'd push both update.zip and the region specific zip to where the stock recovery is expecting, then from a powered-off state use the key combinations to force-udpate. I'm unsure why there are 3 zips this time though since B360 was only 2 zips, I haven't had time yet to look at the contents.

Just tried that too, boot, recovery, and system will flash but vendor fails. When I load to the system it still shows B360 but certain parts of the OS don't work -- can't access Developer Options, for example. It seems as if this package just doesn't work right.
Update: If anybody else wants to attempt it, remove all PIN/password protection first. I had to factory reset.

Of note is that the 72309 firmware (B360) zips can be flashed from TWRP with no issue. This zip however fails to install.
Things I tried which failed:
Unpacking UPDATE.APP and force-updating from /external_sd/dload/ folder
Flashing extracted images from bootloader*
Modifying updater-script and flashing in TWRP (mountencrypt was throwing an error, others too)
Updating updater-script and update-binary and flashing in TWRP (same errors)
Flashing images from bootloader, boot and system worked but vendor failed, but the device did boot. It didn't, however, show the new software version -- but that may be because the software version is read from the vendor partition which wouldn't flash. In any event, flashing this way the device was unstable. I couldn't set a screen PIN and Developer Options would crash the Settings menu when I attempted to access it.
Someone more skilled than me would need to extract the contents of all 3 zips and make one TWRP-flashable zip.

H901 T-Mobile Nougat v30b TWRP flashable update.zip

If you have already upgraded to Nougat using the manual method I posted, you don't need to flash this. If you do, you will get all the bloat back (again), and have to flash your su bin (again), but it isn't going to break your phone.
This is for the H901. Make SURE you have an ACTUAL H901, and not one of the half / half H901 / F600 phones.
If you are still on MM (any version), NOT LP, then you can use this to upgrade (or clean install -- just do a wipe) to Android 7.0 Nougat. This is from the official KDZ that was released on July 18th.
When you flash this, all the carrier bloat / LG bloat / crap / garbage, will come back. You will also lose root until you flash the su bin of your choice. That is the point of this, you WON'T lose TWRP, so you can still root...
Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Lastly, when I have time, I will be releasing a version that is already debloated...
Download v30b_update.zip
SHA1: 4ae9338b9301f4b56437ec761b678c8706c90bc7
If you want the FULL Nougat experience -- that is ALL of the v30b firmware except the stock recovery (we don't want to lose TWRP do we?), then flash this as well.
If you flash this, then you might as well delete all of your MM backups that you made with TWRP because you can no longer restore to MM using your backups (you can flash back to MM -- just not with the backups).
If you choose to ignore this, and decide to restore a MM backup, you will brick your phone.
Download full_nougat.zip
SHA1: b1ac20a6eaccf2dfbd22c09886ddcd03ab638ec3
Known working (tested by me) SU binary: download SuperSU 2.82.
SHA1: d980effb25a8f23bc944d6b1015923f310038031
It has also been confirmed by multiple users that Magisk 12+ works, but I have not confirmed that myself.
This will not wipe ANY of your data / apps / or anything else you may have on your phone. That is why it is an UPGRADE and not a CLEAN install
If you want to do a clean install, just do a full wipe, and then flash.
If you downloaded any of my failed attempts (really -- a typo in a ui_print line?!?!?), and don't want to download the whole zip again, you can download this zip. It is the META-INF directory. You will need to unzip the broken v30b_update.zip, and then extract this over top of the META-INF dir, and then zip it back up.
Make sure you use recursion, and make sure you unzip it on TOP of the META-INF dir, not inside it -- or you will end up with META-INF/META-INF/com/google/android. Won't break your phone, but won't flash either.
-- Brian
Thank you so much man you just made my day...
it will be nice if you can share the recommended SU zip...
Any of the current SUs will work. I am using SuperSU 2.82 (hell, there may be a newer version, but it works, so I don't bother), but I know that Magisk will work as well.

Just opened the zip file and notices META-INF folder is empty there are suppose to be some files in there which helps flash a file...
Weird. I just unzipped it, and it is there. I grabbed the update-binary from one of my LG G4 trees. It shouldn't matter, but I will replace the update-binary, and re-upload.
Sorry about that guys. Unfortunately I can't test this, well I could, but I really don't want to debloat my phone again
It is a SUPER simple script though...

Well THERES the problem. I uploaded the bad copy. I zipped without recursion the first time. Thought I nuked that copy. I am uploading the proper version now -- ya know -- with an ACTUAL META-INF dir

Well, what the crap. Edify script is ... or should I say WAS, one of the simplest things in the world. Now that I am off work and don't need my phone, I can actually test this before I post an updated zip.
The only thing I can guess is that the v10 doesn't let you flash from the zip itself, so I am going to extract the files to /tmp and then flash them.....
I will post an update as soon as I have this working. This has never been an issue before.....

As far as I know you cannot rollback to MM from Nougat. Just have to wait and see if someone is able to create a rooted and debloated kdz or .tot Nougat Rom for our H901. I tried to use Dirtycow method to root but the fastboot commands do not work.

Hello and thank you very much for this useful download link
During the rooting method, my phone (nova 2 plus) became soft brick!
I tried to solve it!
I've done following steps but they didn't work (with your full rom - was linked):
1.
1.1. extract .zip file with winrar
1.2. extract update.app file using HuaweiUpdateExtractor
1.3. Put all extracted file to sd-card
1.4. power+volume up + volume down to update it but after 5 percent, appears "update fail"
2.
2.1. extract .zip file with winrar
2.2. extract update.app file using HuaweiUpdateExtractor
2.3. Flash the rom via fastboot (it completed successfully without any errors but phone reboot loop till huawei logo)
Now my questions:
1. The extracted file doesn't have "cust.img" is it OK or it should have it?
2. What can I do to solve my problem? (I've access fastboot and custom recovery)
Thanks for your patience and your answering.

HELP! Nova 3i / INE-LX2 TWRP Image

Hello All,
Is there an existing working TWRP for Nova 3i? I tried searching, I found one image that claims to be for Nova 3i from the site stupdroid . com.
I was able to flash it, but once I'm inside TWRP, the phone just restarts in maybe 5-10 seconds and just doesn't allow me to do anything.
So now I have an unlocked bootloader with no way to root
I hope someone can help.
P.S. I've asked Supersonic27543 but unfortunately, he/she doesn't have the copy anymore.

If you only want to root you can do that without TWRP. If you want to do that let me know in this thread.

Has there been any further development on this?
I'm finding it quite hard to find a suitable TWRP image.

Sorry for the delay. Here's how, (Remember to unlock the bootloader before this!)
First, download the update.zip for this device (you can find it in Huawei Firmware Finder, remember to download the Full OTA)
Extract the update.zip, you'll see a file named update.app. Download "Huawei Update Extractor", and open the update.app with it.
Now you'll see a list of partitions. Extract the "ramdisk" partition (an . IMG file), and copy it to the Internal Storage of your device.
Download and Install Magisk Manager on your device. Open it, and press Install>Install>Patch Boot Image. Select the ramdisk image you copied to your Internal Storage. Magisk will save a patched image to /sdcard/Download/patched_boot.img.
Now install that image in Fastboot, by "fastboot flash ramdisk patched_boot.img".
Now your device should be rooted with Magisk. If for some reason your device doesn't boot, you can flash the stock ramdisk (before patching) by using the same command as above. (replace patched_boot. img with the image name) That'll cause loss of root.
Good luck!
