use usb camera for whatsapp video calls - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey.
Was wondering if it is possible to use an externa OTG usb camera for videocalls and if so how to acomplish it?
I am able to connect it to the phone and use it in some 3rd party recording apps, but can't seem to find a way to set it as primary camera so it can get picked up by whatsapp

[Q] Duel Cameras for Non front facing Phones

Just got the new G2 and its a bit disappointing that it doesn't have a front facing camera on it. Now I am looking for a way to do video calling with the use of a Web Camera. It would involve connecting the two devices with a USB Female-Female Adapter and designing an app to use the camera. Does anyone have an idea where to start on something like that?
i guess you have to look into usb host driver, there was one guy doing this with a nexus one i think, just search on youtube there was a video
Once you make the special adapter to trigger your phone into USB host mode (if possible) you will still run into a problem of no driver support for your webcam and no applications capable of using a usb camera.
basically you're SOL for a good while

[Q] webcam using hd2 android with skype dont work?

HTCHD2 ultimate droid 3.3
i installed a few webcam apps from market, i set up them in my mobile and in pc, and thei make connection, all should be fine, BUT -
Skype does not see/recognize/find this web cam, no options in skype video section, its as if it wasnt there. Maybe it somekind of driver issue?
Anyone had any experience, or have any idea how to make it work?
(used WO webcam, droidcam, a few more)
I tried using IP Webcam with no luck... It connects, i see the video, and after 2-3sec connection is lost... can't find solution... btw i have regular webcam but i want to make this work
You can use droid cam over wifi, it worked for me.

Nexus 7 car install help please.

Hi Guys,
I have mounted a Nexus 7 (rooted First gen) to my car dashboard. It was a outside mount using a magnetic CD mount. I have connected the usb cable to power up the tablet and using tasker to automate things. I'm using my Xperia Z2 wifi hotspot to tether internet to nexus and It's all working fine. I want to explore the possibility of adding a backup camera now. Done a lot of research but not much information. I want to forget about wifi cameras as I cant have them with my hotspot cause I can only do one device. I'm trying to see if I can use a wired connection. I want to power the camera at all times when the ignition/engine is on so I can wire it to rear lights no problem.
I saw this video and I'm quite intrigued by this;
watch?v=V-gLrqUHATQ
This is my plan;
- Get a cheap camera backup camera (seen in the above video)
- Buy a UVC video grabber to connect everything.
- Have the app installed.
The camera will power on as soon as car is ignited and will remain on all the time.
My questions;
1. Where can I get a UVC video grabber that will work with my nexus 7 (First gen) the one shown in the TY video is a second gen nexus?
2. How can I connect both my charging usb and UVC usb at the same time? Will it work with a OTG cable?
3. How can I make the app to launch the video window when my car goes into reverse? I was thinking about wiring the power to reverse lights first and then when it powers up somehow get the camera app to auto launch and then close when its powered off. But I think it will be difficult with 2 usb cables and there will be a lag? Any way to automate this with tasker?
Thanks for your advice :cyclops:
hi
i think your backup cam will be connected to the reverse gear lights. it will work when the gear is reverse. so you can use carcam app. it popups when it receives a video signal and closes when the signal ends.
or i think tasker has an option under profile/state/hardware/usb connected/video that detetcs usb video devices when connected. but i am not sure that it will detect the uvc video grabber.

[Question] OTG & USB Capabilities

Hey XDA!
Just thought I'd drop a question your way as I've been trying to find an answer throughout the web for the last three days, but found nobody who can answer it. So, I wondered if you guys could be the ones to answer my question!
I'm running CM12 Android 5.1.1 on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - SM-N9005 (Unlocked), and I'm attempting to route a USB webcam through to being the default camera for my phone. I was wondering, if there is somewhere in the many yonder of files throughout Android if there is a way to change this.
My phone has two cameras, but neither of which are fixed in one location, and due to wanting to use a USB webcam (Logitech C615 HD) I thought it might be useful to run and use as opposed to my standard cameras built into the device. Is it possible to do this -
Webcam -> USB -> OTG -> Phone -> Android (Instead of hardware camera, use USB camera, for apps like WhatsApp, Skype etc)
Please don't point out the software on Google play for this, I've installed every one of them promising to enable USB Webcam feed, and while they work, they only work within their respective applications. Which sucks.

I need a way to remote control video recording

Any ideas? I need to be able to start and stop video recording on my lg v20. I am getting soft quality video from the front facing camera so i need to use the primary camera.
I have a hdmi lcd panel and slimport to hdmi on the way but now i wont be able to see and use the phones touch panel any longer.
So i need a way to start and stop video recording.
Ideally be able to switch between wide and narrow sensors as well but lacking that is ok.
I found a bt remote on amazon with dedicated photo and video buttons but it does not work. Only for photos not video.
Suggestions?
Teamviewer or something similar? Wireless mouse?
Screen sharing would be perfect but 3rd party software Solutions are horrible with way too much lag to be useful I already tried wireless mouse doesn't work because there's no way to see the screen to know what I'm clicking on unless... The wireless mouse cursor shows up in the HDMI screen then that might work a little cumbersome but it might work can I plug a USB C Hub and still use the slimport HDMI out? Although I could use a Bluetooth mouse... I will have to try that
