Unlock bootloader using Motorola's website? - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

I've unlocked the bootloader on a few Moto G4 Play phones and the process was simple enough, but I want to make sure I don't run into any issues for rooting before getting my hands on Moto E4. On the Motorola website, the Moto E4 is not listed as a device that can have its booloader unlocked.

But I see people unlocking theirs? Maybe that page is outdated?

It's unlockable. Except Verizon. Go here and log in. Follow the steps. It works. Not sure why it's not listed, but it's unlockable.

Bought a Moto g4 from best buy but its the xt 1625 model some how.

Is there anyway of me getting root on this phone? Its not a amazon exclusive device and was full price. Im on the retus software channel and have a baseband of m8952 and a build of mpj24 if that helps. Is my best bet to try to contact motorola customer support to get the bootloader unlocked?

What's the problem? your phone is unlockable. Follow normal procedure to unlock bootloader.
xt1625 is the US moto G4, try going to the moto bootunlocking site -https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
Should give you a unlock code just fine.

Im giong to close the thread, seems i had got my info mixed up, i had thought 1625 was only for amazon versions of the phone which cant be unlocked. But thats not the case and i have the unlock code already. Sorry for the wasted thread.

Actually, I had the same confusion. My Moto G4 is US retail version, and it also said XT1625, and it does not come with Amazon ads. But when I searched online, a lot of the information on the XT1625 version was the Amazon version (oh, and there is also the India XT1625 version). I had no problem unlocking the bootloader at Motorola's website, and given that the Amazon ones were not unlockable, I knew there must be some difference.
This is really confusing indeed.
Agreed I had same worries but also unlocked just fine, ofc I knew I was good when their werent any lame ads on the lockscreen lol.

PSA: Motorola Bootloader Unlock now supports Moto E4

I just requested an unlock code for my Moto E4 via Motorola's site and was emailed the appropriate unlock code immediately.
Bootloader unlock went smoothly. On to TWRP, and then hopefully, some custom ROMs?

They always let you unlock the bootloader of unlocked phones iirc, the issue is getting the root and making the ROMs.

Yeah; my point is that while the Moto E4 is not currently listed as supporting the unlock (yet), it is working and available.
This worked for me as well. I unlocked both my wife and I's Moto E4's. XT1768 is the model #.
Moto E4 from amazon
I was unable to unlock bootloader of Moto E4 from Amazon which is with ads and model XT1768.

Weird that we have the same model number. I bought mine from Republic Wireless. I know the Amazon ads version does not have an unlockable bootloader but I saw the G4 Play Amazon Edition just got a temporary root so the E4 Amazon Editon may not be too far behind.

Yeah, Motorola will not support unlocking the bootloader of an Amazon (or Verizon) model, unfortunately.

does anyone know if the consumer Cellular version of the g5+ has an unlockable bootloader? I can pick one up at Target for $199 and it's sim unlocked already.

In general no... No carrier branded device that Lenovo's Moto has supplied can be bootloader unlocked. I can't speak to this device specifically, but Moto G3 and G4 devices that were Consumer Cellular branded had bootloaders that could not be unlocked, so logic stands to reason that the G5 won't be unlockable either.
Yes I unlocked the g5 plus bootloader. You will need to get a code from the Motorola website though

Moto E4 Verizon (XT1767) Unlocked vs Unlocked Moto E4 (XT1767)

(Oops...Title should end with (XT1768) not XT1767).
Does anybody know what differences there are (if any) between the Verizon Moto E4 (XT1767) after you unlock it and the (US) version of the Moto E4 (XT1767) that comes unlocked? A few things:
1. Can the Verizon bloatware be removed?
2. Is the frequency band support the same on both phones?
3. Are the other specs exactly the same?
4. Do the updates for both phones come directly from Motorola, or will Verizon continue to be responsible for updates on the Verizon model even after you unlock it?
5. Do both phones come with the quick charger?
6. Can Motorola provide the means of unlocking the bootloader for both phones?
7. Does any Verizon logo pop onto the screen during startup?
Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I believe that you can edit your post title by editing and going into Advanced. Anyway...
1. Yes. See this. However, it's only semi-permanent. If you reset the phone all the bloat will "re-install".
2. There has been debate about that. Most users don't seem to have a problem but others have reported issues with certain T-Mo MVNOs.
3. I'm pretty sure they are.
4. Not sure.
5. I believe so.
6. Verizon will never allow Motorola to unlock the XT1767. Other version, no problem.
7. Yes

I have both variants; previously provided responses are largely accurate. I use the XT1768 (bootloader unlocked, rooted, stock) as my daily driver; XT1767 is primarily a GPS navigator and fallback device. Highly recommend the XT1768 if you have any intention of doing serious modding. Carrier unlock is effective with most GSM based networks. Things get dicey with CDMA MVNOs.

No. Probably never will be.
I know someone that has the Dev version of the verizon model and they say they cannot unlock the bootloader on that one either - it came locked out the box. So, you're probably better off going Factory Unlocked.
