Any way to update via zip since ZTE's servers are dead? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

My phone was broken through rigorous device testing at work. Took ZTE a very long time but they finally delivered my repaired phone in November. Been extremely busy and transfered my life to a replacement Moto G5 but now I want to go back to my trusted ZTE...
...except I can't update my device. What they sent back to me was a device with the last installed update from Jan 2017. Now that's OK if I can just go and update it, but I can't. Servers are dead, and I don't have the time to go and start rooting/unlocking/installing Roms. And I think because of how old the last update is, apps like Android Auto aren't working properly with my car.
Would be nice if the US gov't played nice and just allowed ZTE to at least keep their servers up and running, but I have no control of that. Right now I'm at the point where I'm deciding on buying a Oneplus 6 if I can't get this phone working properly. Android Auto is a #1 priority for me.
Is there a way to grab update Zips somewhere online and easily update from the updater tool? I did this before when I got my device to Android 7.1.1 ways back (I purchased my ZTE almost 2 years now).

Which one do you have the U, G and the Chinese version?

Really ? did you even searched ?

Not without the B35 stock firmware which no one seems to have as ZTE never put it up on the support page before everything went down.
I still have a fully stock phone for now and I have been trying to find a way to root without wiping my device so I can try to pull the OTA from /data, but so far I haven't had any luck.

FYI, just EDL the B35 with @djkuz B35 stock rom.
Give the guy some proper credits

As i got my A2017G two day before, there was the v B02 installed on it! (from apr. 2017?)
Unfortunately, i can’t get a newer OTA update because all ZTE servers seems to be offline.
But I have found several v A2017G/B10 zip files in the internet. I have downloaded two of them and compared. Result=Equal
After putting some of the files onto my sd, the update was found and installed successful! Now i am on B10.
A little bit of work, but a good result!

Broken Wifi, Recovery img after botched OTA upgrade & restore-to-stock

Hi, I'm new to ROM flashing etc. and seem to have gotten myself in trouble.
I bought a used Moto X Pure (XT1575 model) with, I guess, the Motorola unlocked bootloader and TWRP already installed. I accidentally approved an OTA update this afternoon and ended up in a boot-loop.
In trying to fix it I used the "restore-to-stock tool" for windows found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...ndows-tool-moto-x-style-pure-edition-t3199905
This was semi-successful; the OS loaded and I was able to begin migrating my old apps, but
(1) the wi-fi doesn't work at all! I can't turn it on in settings -- the slider will slide on but then slide back off by itself
(2) the recovery image seems screwed up; I can't get into recovery mode, and get an error there instead.
I am at a loss as to what to do but see my last resort in using fastboot to upgrade to the 6.0 stock image as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/pure-firmware-tuff-wip-t3224833
I'm too tired to try tonight, so I thought I'd ask for advice before I go to bed. What are my options here, especially if the upgrade to 6.0 creates new problems? Can I get error meessages for the wireless so I at least know what's going on? Can I reflash the wireless firmware -- might it have been messed up if one or another upgrade was interrupted somehow?
Also -- hope I'm in the right forum -- please point me in the right direction if I'm not!
Many thanks for the help!

Oh man, I had NOT read far enough in that thread. The solution was simply to reflash the modem,
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
Just did it and the wifi issue seems to be fixed!
How should I approach the crashed recovery partition? When I got the phone, TWRP was installed as well as SuperSU. I tried the restore-to-stock tool mostly because of the problem with OTA updates being so frustrating; but I wouldn't object to reinstalling TWRP and SuperSU, if I knew how to get and install new images within a few days of the OTA update arriving (I have been deferring the last OTA update since the day I got the phone, a month ago -- I was bound to make a typing error eventually, and it happened yesterday). Anyway, if you can point me in the right direction for learning that stuff I'd be grateful.
So psyched to have wifi working! THank you!

Nexus 6P BOOTLOOP after using Facebook

1 hour ago, I was checking Facebook, and a moment later, my phone started to restart... After a few moments, I realized that my phone was in bootloop. I tried booting into recovery, but It started a bootloop again. Flashed TWRP, nothing happens, still bootloop. Flashed vendor, system, boot, cache, recovery, radio, bootloader from lastest factory image. I have very important data on my phone, so the last thing I want to do is to do a factory reset. But I still hope that I can somehow get the userdata partition from bootloader or somehow make it boot. Can you help me? The only thing I can open right now is bootloader.
I'm having an exactly the same problem with you.
The only difference is that I didn't use Facebook.
I dared to lose my every data so I formatted userdata partition of my phone and flashed stock image, but it didn't fix mine.
I failed at figuring out the solution yet, but there's still one hope.
When I contacted with huawei, they said there's an upcoming update, and it will fix bricked phones.
I don't know if it will work, but considering you had your bootloader unlocked and can access it, and you have some important datas that you don't wanna lose, I recommend you keep your phone until the update gets released, then manually flash it without wiping your user data.
Given our phone's symptom is exactly the same and you tried similar methods I've tried, this is the best way I think you can try.
Good luck. You're in the same boat with me.

Yes, but we can wait for this update for months.. Also, when you flash a factory image, you lose you data (correct me if I'm wrong). So, it doesn't matter to me, if I try to format user data, or wait for the update. Hm...

Well, android 7.1.2 beta for nexus 5x, pixel, or etc was released a few days ago, and for nexus 6p, it'll be released soon.
This is just my imagination, but maybe they're taking some times fixing boot loop so the release for 6p is getting late.
Also, you can flash factory images without user data lose by manually flashing it using fastboot commands.
The released image will contain some .img files, then you can extract it and then only flash required files without formatting userdata partition.
Don't use flash-all.bat, and use fastboot commands to selectively install image files except for userdata.

Guys, did you manage to fix it? I was doing some research, talking to some persons, and they said that it is probably a hardware problem. So, I went to the nearest Huawai servis, and they told me, that if the problem is really on hardware, it will cost me around 340€ (363 dollars) to replace motherboard... I can't afford that much... Its is almost a price of a new phone. I hope you came up with some better solutions.

For now, I failed.
New 7.1.1 minor build update didn't fix my phone.
And google said they can't assure there will be update that will fix my phone.
I'm waiting for 7.1.2 beta, and if that doesn't work, well.. I don't know.
Maybe I should await 7.1.2 official, or.. just give up everything.
My hope is getting faded, and yeah.. for now, I can do nothing but wait for update.
Actually, I don't think those updates will work.
I'm just giving it a last chance, since repair service at here also costs about 350$, and if I fail, I should keep using Nexus 5.
Ah... It didn't took 2 weeks for my phone to be bricked after I bought this phone.
I really want to get this phone back, but the hope is too faint.

Exactly... I was thinking... What if we lock the bootloader and send the phone to repair service with warranty papers... Do you think that can actually work out? Can they see that the phone was rooted, if we lock the bootloader with ADB Shell?

I live in South Korea and in my country, they provide repair by post service for devices in the warranty period.
For me, my warranty is expired, so I had to bring it to the service center myself.
I've locked the bootloader and brought it the center.
They didn't check if it was ever unlocked or rooted.
The engineer only tried rebooting my phone several times, and said he should replace the motherboard. And they said they couldn't fix it for free because the warranty is expired.
I don't know how Huawei in your country will handle it, but I think if you flash the stock image and lock your phone, maybe they won't see that was ever rooted.
But I also don't know if they will provide free repair.
No luck on my end. I tried everything... I've been flashing and repairing problems like these since the nexus one but I'm totally stumped. Lucky/Unlucky for me I've only had the device for 3 months so I have an RMA ready since it is under warranty.
Most importantly tho is that I want to recover the files on the device which will not happen if I take it to the repair center as they reflash all the devices before proceeding to fix it.
I tried getting TWRP but the device reboots back into the boot as soon as I select recovery.
Also tried flashing everything but user data using flashboot and the nexus 6 .img files but still in the same situation.
I just wished they would've at least added a microsd option so I could at least have some of my files back...
I don't think I will ever get a phone without microsd option again or root and unlock bootloader on every device I get. This was the first phone I decided not to mess around with since everyone kept telling me to enjoy the stock experience....
Worse experience to date with android.
Well I gave up trying to fix it by software, and found another solution.
My warranty is expired, so it wasn't cost-efficient to bring my phone to official service center.
Now I bought a display-broken phone at about 60 dollars.
Gonna bring it to an engineer and replace my phone's motherboard with its intact one.

It was a one-off purchase of a broken phone on a Korean market equivalent of Craigslist. You'll have to dig around and find one locally... and be lucky, too.
I just had reboots today for the first lasting about 20 minutes. I was able to get into Recovery and clear the cache and then shut down the phone. Upon restart it looped a few times and then fully booted (thankfully). I have placed the latest firmware in the phone in the hope that if this happens again I can flash the firmware and access the phone.
I hope this helps a bit.
I am rooted and running N2G47H.

Hopefully it will but realistically this could be the beginning of the end for your phone given the 6P history with the boot loop of death. Presumably your phone is out of warranty?

Yes it works fine and the issue has nothing to do with root. Probably half of us using it are rooted without issue
Bit of a thread-dig here, but I just got a PH1 and went straight to P (not rooted yet) and saw no WiFi. Wouldn't even turn on.
The phone came with 7.1.1 and I flashed P via fastboot. Tried rebooting and monkeying with it, but never saw any progress, no list of networks, etc.
7.1.1 did see WiFi for the 5 minutes I ran it.
Flashed latest stable 8.1 and it WiFi worked again immediately.
Then flashed 9 a second time and now WiFi works fine.
My best guess is the 7.1.1->9 transition has some kind of issue (doesn't quite make sense to me, given that I think EVERYTHING is being flashed by the 9 update, but this did fix it).

If I take your post at face value... You have a bad flash and need to try again... Or blame your cable... And go buy a new one...
Otherwise... You have a bad download... Or there is something wrong wrong with your zip or batch/script... Or you're not completely unlocked
Listen guys, the issue is bc the ota zip for p doesnt flash both slots and the fastboot images zip doesnt either. If u look at the script (flashall. Bat) with a text editor it specifically shows only flashing one slot. To fix the wifi issue, u need the july oreo images file and that flashall. Bat flashes both slots and will fix the lost wifi and or Bluetooth. Once u do that, it reboots twice and go back to dev options and renable usb debugging. Now u reboot bootloader and flash p. Now it should all work. Also, in doing this, you will have to lose your data.
Same here but can't roll back to Oreo
See.issue here but I seem.to not be able.to resolve wifi issue or roll back to Oreo. When I try to reflash it just says it expects a newer version of is. Any ideas?

The reason is because one of the OTAs did not have the partition you're looking for... And it created a mismatch somewhere...
You DO NOT need to have the same software on A and B... It just makes troubleshooting easier from our perspective... And... It forces you to reflash and probably fix the problem...
As intended... There should ALWAYS be a mismatch between A and B... At least a monthly security update... If not an Android versioning difference
Edited. We are all just trying to help others. Lets keep it that way.
so, uhmmm like yea...... there is this thread here, called the stock images thread (link for posterity https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/stock-7-1-1-nmj20d-t3701681 ) this is firmware images, directly from essential. I have added the remaining images that you dont get from essential, so that way you can reflash, and get the same version of software on both sides. there are wipe and no wipe bat files in there, twrp11 (the working twrp we have), and the fix red boot (in case you broke verity), and a stockboot.img (coincidentally the same file as called boot in the zip, but renamed for your twrp/rooting pleasure).
These images work great, many many many people have used them to go back and forth between O and P, OTA, or recover from catastrophe. As usual, beware of dragons, make SURE SURE SURE SURE you have a working adb/fastboot environment (use the version that comes with essentials drivers) (you can always do ADB VERSION or FASTBOOT --VERSION ) to check your version and where its working out of. It is 1 stop shopping. I also know the guy that makes the zips

No prob, i understand the frustration.i assure you i was not guessing. I only post what i know is for sure. When faced with the exact same issue as OP i was forced to flash both slots to fix it. Yes, they could boot up with slightly different partitions, but the wifi was broken still. I believe the whole phone needed both slots flashed with each corresponding img simultaneously in order to resolve said issue. For whatever reason, i had both a and b screwed up. At the time i was trying to fix the ril and camera issues on the pixel 2 system image after flashing it on my essential. I want to get that working fully to release as a port.

Screen Not Responsive After Flash ..... +

Hey,
I've been on quite a journey since I attempted to flash the Treble rom for newbies. My phone eventually ended up as DFU'd but, I brought it back to life after a following the DFU Unbrick - Disassembly guide. After doing this, the screen was not responsive to touch at all at the Welcome screen of the EDU ROM. So, my adventure continued as I took the phone apart several times again to make certain things were connected, not damaged, etc..
After flashing TWRP I concluded the screen itself must be fine because I could use TWRP using the screen/touch. I have since tried flashing several different roms, tried many combos of unlocking the bootloader (again, because I assume it was already unlocked due to the bootloader warning screen of can not check for corruption message), tried flashing bootstack and the stock rom from DrakenFX. Used MiFlash, EDM Tool to flash various items.
Each time and currently, when it boots to the Welcome screen it does not respond to touch.
Can anyone please help me with this?
Thank you!
I remember this happened to me some years ago with a different phone, and it was a bad flash.
I resolved it by flashing the stock firmware again.
What did you flash with MiFlash? Stock firmware untouched? You must do this, try with B35 untouched. Don't flash stuff with TWRP.
Untouched? Is there anything on here like that?

Those are "untouched" system images. Replace recovery.img with a proper TWRP version before flashing:

Yeah, unfortunately the very first link (since I am in the USA and have a U version) is the very stock EDL version I used with MiFlash rightg after I was successful getting the phone out of DFU. I have tried flashing it twice after and still nothing.
Thank you for helping!!!

Sad to hear that... Maybe you can try again? Who knows, with a little bit of luck...
Or try another version, like this one:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=890129502657579386
btw, did you try every single spot in your screen while in TWRP? Maybe some pins in the connector are broken and some parts work and others doesn't?
And for the sake of it, you could try discharging your battery completely.
Last thing I can think of... is to restore the stock recovery and apply the official update via sdcard:

Yeah, the entire screen works perfectly in TWRP. I disassembled it several times before when I thought I may have put it back together wrong or damaged something so, the battery was removed those several times therefore, no power.
I'll try the stock above. I'm actually trying another stock rom atm --- flashing from sdcard

Well, EUREKA! I found I had saved the first files you were supposed to load when the Axon was first unlocked ( file name STEP_1_3-B20_FULL_OTA). Flashed it and the screen works fine. Now, I have to remember how to update it...lol I've unlocked the bootloader in Developer mode and I should be on my way..... fingers crossed.

Strange.
Nevertheless, congratulations. Happy for you.
Well, it's great that I now know the screen/hardware is fine but, I am unable to get any further than version B20. OTA doesn't work, the other files to flash (STEP_4-B20_to_B27 and STEP_5-B27_to_B29) won't flash and get aborted due to it expecting a certain version. I've tried DrakenFX Bootstack and then Stock System and it boots to the Welcome screen but the screen is no longer responsive again.
I have been at this all day again and it's shaping up another all night too. I am so baffled!
Restore to stock firmware your phone came shipped with. After that update trough ota or sd card package and maybe dont flash Treble again, its broken

i wish i had seen this sooner, because i have this same exact problem on one of my boards. it will update perfectly to any of the MM sd card update files (see rootjunkys bl unlock video, thanks @Tomsgt) but the board/phone will not retain touch functionality on anything higher than mm b29. i had lost my imei on that board, and actually swapped to another one despite eventually regaining it simply bc i wanted to be on Oreo ROMs. if you find a fix, id love to know about it. i flashed and reflashed every update, sd card versions, edl versions, and OTA updates to no avail. Nougat or above, touchscreen didnt work... mine was a gold a2017u. good luck, man. im glad im not crazy.
Sorry to bump an old(er) thread I started. I wanted to ask if anyone has found a solution to this issue yet?
I have since tried updating using OTA to Nougat and the screen doesn't respond so, I had to flash back to Marshmallow B29. Thank you to anyone who might have an idea!

Android 10 Verizon Variant update!

I had to manually check, but it's here on my phone .
For some reason the screenshot wouldn't upload, so here it is on imgur.

Yep. Here in the Seattle area, the Verizon Android 10 update is here for the Moto Z4. Update went without a hitch...phone runs well and smoothly.
Anyone know how to get rid of this? It just started after the updated lol.
I think they put that there to remind us that once Android 11 is released, we'll be stuck on Android 10.

It's there because developer tools are enabled, if you turn them off that message disappears.
I had the update last week, but was waiting for it to come up on Software update center since I have retail version, but now update is gone and it hasn't been released on the update center.
Could someone pull the update and post it here for the rest of us to manually update??
There is a new one today, it said critical, and applied itself, no option to delay it, it's called Update 5+.
I agree we really need the system image for this update. My phone will not update using the update system option, it only tells me it's already up to date. I tried using the tool from Verizon, same thing, up to date. I called verizon, after the second tech they want to send a new phone. But I don't really want a new phone. Also they had me do a factory reset just to be sure. I had a lot of apps disabled, and had other modifications through adb. Turns out those weren't the issue.
Pretty Please with Sugar on Top.
I'm sure all it would take is for someone to use the Verizon update tool or whatever it's called and select reinstall but keep my days then it'll download and extract. You just have to grab it once it starts extracting the zip and copy it somewhere so that when it finishs extracting it doesn't get removed. The app deletes the system image/zip when it finishes extracting. You could also unplug your phone when it starts extracting and it would touch your device.
Edit...... Then upload it anywhere.
This is an excellent idea, however it'll only work for people already on 10. Myself and others cannot update neither OTA or using the update tool. Using this aforementioned method of extraction would be absolutely fabulous, and I myself would buy some beers for anyone that would pull the update whatever way they can and upload???
Just manually checked and the update was there. I didn't think of it but there used to be an app that a Dev put out for Moto phones that would copy the update. Probably to old to work anymore though.
I did the same thing a couple days ago.
It's finally in the repository

Ive used LMSA (lenovo motorola smart assistant). Just set the download folder to someplace you recognize, then copy it out of that folder before lmsa extracts the zip

%#*%^$^%$#$(&!! I've been scouring the web all evening trying to figure out why my bluetooth stopped functioning recently...all worked fine until this new update that came across on my phone yesterday. I haven't been able to find any info on this, I was starting to think I was the only one having issues after that update. Is there a fix for this?
