Gingerbread changes (vs. Froyo)

hi guys,
since lot of us got update to Gingerbread today, what changes have you noticed?
I'm not really a "power user" and I am bit dissapointed, I expected more estetic changes..
The speed seems same too, am I missing something?
Are you pleased with this, we've been waiting long..?
So, can u put a list of changes or benefits we got with 2.3.3 or what have you noticed new?
ciao
For the Android revision it is:
2.3.4 latest release.[32] Based on Linux kernel 2.6.35[33]. On 6 December 2010, the 2.3 (Gingerbread) SDK was released.[32] Changes included:[33]
Support for voice or video chat using Google Talk[34] Google Blog/video
System: Updated user interface design for simplicity and speed
Display: Support for extra-large screen sizes and resolutions (WXGA and higher)[31]
Internet calling: Native support for SIP VoIP telephony
Virtual Keyboard: Faster, more intuitive text input, improved accuracy, better suggested text. Voice input mode
Copy/Paste: Enhanced. Select a word by press-hold, copy, and paste.
Near Field Communication lets the user read an NFC tag embedded in a poster, sticker, or advertisement.
New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost
System: Improved power management with a more active role in managing apps that are keeping the device awake for too long.
Download Manager gives the user easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email, or another application.
Camera: Access multiple cameras on the device, including a front-facing camera, if available.
Media: Support for WebM/VP8 video playback, and AAC audio encoding
System: Enhanced support for native code development
Audio, graphical, and input enhancements for game developers
Concurrent garbage collection for increased performance
Native support for more sensors (such as gyroscopes and barometers)
Switched from YAFFS to the ext4 filesystem[35]

For the HTC change log I guess we're going to have to wait for a user created one.
HTC updated the Sense to 2.1 (with Power controls in noticification bars)
Camera app is a bit better, not much
besides these, Gingerbread was (in general) more a technical upgrade than adding features for casual users. So the memory (RAM) management and battery management is whole lot better.
You'll notice the battery won't drain that much as on Froyo (although Froyo was also a huge step forward in comparison to 2.1)
Some things I noticed:
1. Quick Settings in the drop-down menu. Really handy, but they should have added a Profile switcher and Brightness adjuster in there as well.
2. App overview now scrolls per page. This is very annoying as you can't scroll quickly any more.
3. Downloads app. Can come in handy I suppose
4. Better overview of battery drainage in the Battery use menu

You've put the changelist of Android 2.3.4.
HTC's Gingerbread update uses Android 2.3.3
The colours are I dont know changed I think XD
The phone can reboot fast (I got to reboot alot since the CPU is getting stuck at 100% a few times a day)
Menu changed
and it runs smoother I think ^^
oh, and what is with writing SMS, the underlined text? i tried to disable that "spell check" or whatever, but didn't help..?
and the sound seems louder (is it couse i washed ears? )?
P.s. i noticed two more things..when sending sms to contact that has more numbers, you see on what number will be sent...nice...BUT!!!! THE NOTIFICATION PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS!!!!!!! Have nothing on screen, i open messages and have two unread msg...damn google / htc...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I also noticed that I need to hold the powerbutton a few seconds before it boots (fastboot is enabled)
I like the copy paste options in 2.3
From my impression, gingerbread is much much much more optimised for the mobile compared to froyo. Its very smooth, makes froyo feels sticky/stuttery.

TV effect is only on Nexus phones. But on the Desire HD down app from marketplace called "Screen Off" you can have custom off screens and tv screen is one there.

who's the developer of the screen off u referring to?
Noticed few changes. I dont write those mentioned before. I dont like how calculator is changed. I got used to old location of buttons. Calendar widget in my opinion is much more fluent and events load much faster. Changed skin of almost all buttons and bars to look more 3d. Added sound to weather widget. I dont know why there are no folders (like in iphone) in all apps menu which they made even wore because of slow scrolling. When i have over 150 apps its takes a little to find right one.

I choose this phone over the Honor 8 because of the camera.....!
Since is very difficult to obtain information about this model, I really don't know if it's just a feeling that you've got about the camera or it's really poorer...it's what happened to Honor 6x after updating to Nougat...
Why are you feeling that the camera is poorer....?

At good weatherconditions, the Pictures are really good (like before)

1. I can't install apps from Google play store while using cellular connection, only with wi-fi. I granted permission to use the data to the play store.
2. All of my purchased apps from Google are not recognized by the app and state that I have to buy the premium version.
3. My contacts in the Google account can't be synced (other info of google is synced)
When I installed this ROM I cleared the data

Hi Adam!
I'm confused a bit about which ROM should I use. Currently I'm on stock 7.0.1.0G.
If I'm willing to upgrade which one should I use. There are quite a few options such as: 7.2.0.0A, 7.8.7.16G, 7.8.7.24A or even 7.8.8.9A.
I can't find a out whats are the differences. For sure all of them are Nougat based. but then...
Could you please guide me which one to pick?!
Thanks!
I need the original build.prop of the rom Flyme 7.2.0.0A Stable Final. I made many changes without a proper backup. If anyone can send me a copy, thank you.

I have some issue with 7.2.0.0A. I already installed it. But when I try to login into flyme account I get a message that I'm still loged in with another account and I have to logout with that first. I bought my Phone 2nd hand and the seller told me he removed this phone from his account.
The interesting thing that if I use the 7.0.1.0G than I can login with my own without any problem.
I'm still negotiating with the seller how could és solve this.
Do you have any idea how could I overcome this issue if I can't manage IT with the seller?
Thanks!

Login on flyme account using computer and change the password there. Once password changed you have to login everywhere again since all active sessions gone out.
Is there any way to install a altered ROM on this phone? If I add or delete anything from the official ROM then it states it is corrupt.
Or is it possible to install TWRP on it? I think with that maybe its possible to install some tweaked ROM.
Thanks

apparently there is no custom rom, twrp, xposed. what I recommend is to enable root and delete apps and system folders. I did and I gained more ram and less use of the processor in the background. and longer battery life

Just to help out a bit, if possible:
Camera seems to be fine on my P2XL - though I have not enabled any HDR+ or raw settings.
Now Playing is working for me, grabbed the theme song off the show I was watching last night.
Markup "edit" button can be fixed. Clear data in markup, open photos and use markup from within that; you should get a permission request. (simply going into permissions on the markup app and enabling any/all may work as well, but is untested)
In dialer/recents, tap the number, and choose block from the drop down menu. I am in the beta for the Google phone app - so that may be part of it. Dirty flash may also affect this.
Clarification only: Photos is broken in dark-mode, but only in that all options dialogs/drop-downs are white text on white background. Other than that, you can still browse photos/albums, etc.
For clarity: My device is the Pixel 2 XL and Q was installed via factory image with full wipe (no dirty flash), and I did not restore from any backups.
Camera is fine for me on 2xl. Nothing different. HDR+ works as normal so does raw DNG.

Now playing is working for me - just not displaying on the lock screen. I just got home form a birthday party, and every song the DJ played is in my NP history;
In addition to the charging time estimate, the estimate in the pull down notification area is completely off base compared to the estimated time left in Settings --> Battery;
My built in screen recording works for me, and has worked since I enabled it from the Features flags in Developer Options;
No issues with Google Photos with dark Mode. Caveat: I had dark mode enabled in Pie, and took the Q DP1 OTA over that Pie install;
I found that there is a microphone icon at the top left when selecting Panorama photo mode that I never saw before (was that introduced with Q DP1, or just a very recent Google Camera update?)
I've not noticed a discernible slowdown in the Camera app (and I always use HDR+ / Night sight for my photos), but I have noticed that when I try to view a picture / video, particularly like an MMS in Messages / Google Voice, the phone is extremely slow and laggy.
@eBENdre just got xl 2 ,prerooted, one question,if i install Q 1 will it owerwrite twrp magisk also, will there be problems maybe? Thanks

Yes, it will overwrite twrp and magisk.
There are always potential problems with any update to beta builds, however, many are running Q without issues. Best advice I can give is to familiarize yourself with fastboot commands, since you'll need to install twrp again, and read, read, and read again all of the information in the Q threads so you know what to do and expect :good:

Huge thanks mate, and there is problem for me,as keybord not working on laptop...
You'll probably need access to a different computer - or else need to buy a cheap USB KB to use, because use of a separate computer / laptop is pretty much essential to get this working (root + Q, not to mention installing TWRP by using fastboot boot to boot TWRP, then installing TWRP from inside the booted TWRP).

You should get the next update fine, provided your on stock recovery without root. I don't run betas personally, but my info comes from reading about others that do. As with anything android...YMMV :good::laugh:
Android Q Beta Experience
I've been on Android Q beta for almost 3 weeks now. It is used as a daily driver since I have only the one Pixel 2. I flashed the new image myself using TWRP rather than opt into the beta with Google. Other than a problem with now playing not always showing up on the screen and a slight delay when I go to the Favorites page in Phone app everything seems to work alright. I am getting roughly the same battery life as with Android Pie. Oh, and my banking app (ICICI Bank, India) is not working. It doesn't send an SMS to activate the app. I thought this might be as the phone number is shown as unknown. I understand that Vodafone in India does not show the phone number in the SIM information in Settings. I have activated dark mode and even photos and camera app work without a hitch. I have rooted with Magisk (Canary channel) and that is working without any problem.
OTOH, I've also been on Q since the day it came out (my birthday, coincidentally - love being an Ides of March baby lol).
I've had some issues crop up here and there, but nothing really serious. I was on Pie, rooted, and used the uninstall routine inside of Magisk to de-root my Taimen before taking Q, and then rooted it again with the (then latest) canary build.
What I'm hoping is that the Magisk procedure to de-root the device, take the OTA, and then before rebooting, applying the patched boot.img to the new partition will work, the same as if you're rooted on Pie and get an OTA.
Time will tell.
My notifications is coming like this only.. is this a bug?
or the clock is missing?
My device is not rooted. I'm not using any module or theme.
Clock missing - have you rebooted?

Yes I have. Atleast 2-3 times.
Wonder if it is System UI Tuner related?
You could give this a shot and see if the System UI is set to hide the clock, though the last time I actually tried to hide the clock, it didn't leave that space there....

Yeah I mean you're worrying over something really trivial. Just enjoy the phone man. It's getting better with each update, why are you concerned over such silly things
Btw you linked the India website, I don't know if it's the same as the EU variant, but just a heads up to download the correct update for your device to avoid problems.
Seems like my battery has improved a lot after the update so thumbs up for that

India / EU can be flashed with same firmware.
Just CN is different and can only flashed with CN firmware.

Ah ok in that case, but I'd just rather flash the appropriate file for consistency.
Also, another thing that's not mentioned in the changelog, there's finally an option to tune the vibration intensity, even though there's only 3 levels.

So if you have no problem you buy equipment where you lack the functions that are indicated in a technical sheet of the device so many places for you! But this is not the case with all World. I may still be right to say that the technical sheet is incomplete because realme has been promoting it for its gamer side, but when your ni looks closer it is missing a lot Like double wifi, the game space application is not the same for everyone and it's still incredible! What is the problem? Yes I am one of those who also bought it for its gamer side, so I also have the right to be unhappy not to find the promise made of all these options missing in my version!

No I totally get you, I hate it when companies don't keep their promises and don't live up to the expectations, and I may be biased since I don't see the neccessity of those functions. But it seems you're stressing yourself too hard over nothing and want this just for the sake of having it and not because it's useful.
4d vibration sounds good on paper but I doubt it's that good. Also you would probably not see a real benefit from dual wifi, unless the network you're connecting to is REALLY slow. I'm not 100% sure, but that's my interpretation.
We should totally push companies to do better and to not screw us, agreed, but it's kinda pointless writing that over and over again here on xda. Did you contact them via mail?
just to be absolutely sure , to update if i am rooted with magisk , i only have to :
go to recovery
flash update.ozip
while still in recovery , i flash vbmeta.img
flash magisk.zip
then reboot into os
that is all ? i dont have to wipe cache or dalvik ?
can anyone confirm if i am missing any steps ?
Thanks
yes by email and on their social network but they must always answer me! maia to answer you even if you see no interest in it that does not mean that it is valid for all the people who have bought the realme x2 pro. but he thinks he has partly found the answer to my question .. by dint of trying several version of the 'Game Space' application, it is written in a notification that to activate these options they must connect to their realme account! which only exists on the Chinese or Indian version! Which is totally inconsistent. And as we can see on Youtube the Chinese or Indian version has 3 times more options than us on the "Games Space" application so yes I expect to have the same Thing, I paid dearly for this phone and I therefore think I am entitled to the same options as the others !!!

Can we actually force 90Hz in every app on this version?
That's the reason why I went to LineageOS, so I might come back if it's now possible (And no, the Magisk module available on this forum didn't work when I was on C.29)

The magisk module works for me. Worked ever since I was first rooted I think at c25, up until now at c31. Some apps are not complying, but that's just because they are programmed that way.

Well, those apps that aren't "progammed that way" works just fine in 90Hz on LineageOS, pretty sure that's just the module not really working for whatever reason.

That's not true, try 9GAG and tell me it doesn't switch back and forth?
Also Poweramp works at 90Hz everywhere but in library view, that's what I found out. Everything else works fine. Google Photos app was 60Hz, but after flashing the module it's 90Hz.
i flashed the rom through twrp (was using los before) but not able to use payment apps. it shows "system integrity compromised". can somebody tell me what i did wrong?
