For those who want to Root

Hey guys...i have the same device (Pra-la1).
If you want to root just follow the same instructions that are on Huawei p8 lite 2017 section.
And the recovery for p8 lite 2017 (pra-lx1) is the same with honor 8 lite (pra-la1) and I've been using it since day one that I bought that phone.
And i think both phones are the same except the model name...
I tried to flash the ROM from pra-lx1 and actually they are both the same.
Sent from my PRA-LA1 using Tapatalk
Wow , great Info
Yea since they are both "PRA" so just the same.

If you need a tester I'm willing to help... I'll do anything to see a custom ROM on my device...not EMUI based...maybe LINEAGE OS or similar AOSP based

@hamzio7, If you successfully rooted your device, make a Complete guide post on that in GUIDE SECTION, It helps for Healthy development in this forums.
Every attempt at rooting has led me to be stuck in eRecovery
I have no problem flashing and using TWRP, but i when i flash SuperSu (i tried all verisons for p8 lite 2017) and it always gets me stuck at eRecovery :/
Rommco05 said:
So u can flash recovery but no Supersu? Which firmware u have right now? and android version

Firmware : pra-la1c185b100
Android 7.1
Yes, the latest version of TWRP is running just fine, but whenever i try to flash SuperSu (Using TWRP) i get stuck at eRecovery, flashing unSU.zip doesn't fix the problem, the only way to fix it is to remove supersu file from /data
Rommco05 said:
Android 7.1? can I see screenshot please? Try download custom supersu from twrp thread in Honor 8 is for all kirin devices maybe should work

That's not needed. Just need to mount vendor before flashing.

Twrp can't access internal storage

So i flashed twrp on my Honor 8 Lite with fastboot (I did unlock bootloader). When i boot into twrp, internal storage is just random letters and numbers, but external SD card is fine. I don't know if this is related, but whenever i try to flash anything out of twrp, it doesn't work. (For example if i try to flash a new magisk version in the app it doesn't work, but if i download the zip and flash it in twrp it works just fine.). Also Viper Android FX drivers say they installed but when i reboot my phone, they are gone.
P.S, Just installed twrp manager from play store to check my twrp version, but it doesn't detect a custom recovery. (Also i checked my root access just to be sure, and it was fine.)
Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Device Model Number: PRA-LX1
Emui-Version: 5.0
Android Version: 7.0
Rommco05 said:
This can be because:ยจ
1. this twrp isnt exactly for this devices (for which device is original this twrp?)
2. Isn't fully decrypted your internal storage. For decrypt data u need to make format data in twrp
But if this twrp isn't exactly for your device u can brick your phone, please do full backup to sd card!!
Whicj twrp u use? And Which is your build number?

Original twrp version is for honor 8 (frd).
I don't know if formating data will help if i just have the wrong version. Right?

I suggest you don't using this twrp because this version isn't for this model, u can brick your phone, I can't u give any other advice, don't want broke your phone...

US Huawei Mate SE users discussion thread

I requested an specific forum extension for users (like me) who also have the Huawei Mate SE version in the US. In the meantime, we can use this thread to discuss specifics for this version.
Another Mate SE user posted this in the Oreo Beta thread. It seems there will be a also a FUT trial beta for Mate SE.
mobstaj said:
I had signed up for the 7x beta and then traded it in on a Mate SE for the extra ram and storage. Very happy that I did, camera seems to load consistently faster.
Anyway, I emailed the FUT testing team to inquire about the Mate SE and this is the response I got back:
"Last time we checked the Mate SE will have the FUT trial right after this model. But, yes. We can add you in the test if you did not get to participate in this model."
I emailed them back to see if I might be able to get a more specific time frame and information about how to sign up for that test. I'll let you know if they reply.

@mobstaj Can you please post in this Mate SE specific thread if you get any reply from huawei folks?. Thanks again.
I got my Mate SE last week. It is on Build B101. Is this what the rest of you are on? Or is there something newer?
Jon
Yes, same build...BND-L34C567B101
Will the se get the face unlock update like the honor ?

Thanks guys. I was wondering since the B101 build is "old" for some of the 7x's. I did notice though that the security patch is current as of Jan 2018.
Would be interesting to find out why in the US the 7x with 4gb/64gb is called the Mate SE, and in rest of world it is a version of the 7x. Seems like a weird marketing strategy. And the Honor guy on this forum can't/won't answer questions about the SE. You'd think that the Huawai/Honor staffing would be combined in the US.
Just wish we had some idea of when we might get a beta of Oreo.

Typical behavior from mobile staff. Thanks.
Ok, I've done searches, but I can't figure out what FUT stands for. I know there is a FUT Team, but that doesn't help. Anyone??

So uh... I kind of bricked my Mate SE. And there currently doesn't seem to be any stock boot images or firmware around anywhere. Does anyone happen to have either of those two? Or does anyone know when the stock firmware will be available for download?

In that case, would you or anyone else happen to have a clean dump that I could use? I know I should have waited till official firmware has been released but I was really eager to root it and whatnot. Ended up flashing something I shouldn't have and now I can't boot.

I don't and we are all waiting for either the stock images and/or oreo beta.
In case you are wondering about rooting your Mate SE, someone already confirmed the same process for the international Honor 7x works with the Mate SE.
Harfainx said:
I decided to test it out and see if this would work for the Huawei Mate SE (BND-L34), and it does! Went through the normal bootloader unlock stuff, and then I flashed your TWRP image and it worked perfectly. Sideloaded SuperSU because it seems like everything on the internal storage is encrypted (can't see files, and all folders are gibberish names), but it looks like it worked fine.
I have root, and I've got TWRP on my brand new Mate SE!

Has someone captured the OTA for the international or US 7x oreo Beta and attempt to flash it on the Mate SE. If the root process is the same as international hopefully it can take the OTA from the international too.

Hey,
So, for one, there is no EMUI 6. Huawei made the jump directly to 8 from 5. Secondly, EMUI 8 hasn't been released for the Nova/ Nova Plus, and I honestly don't think it will, so you're pretty much stuck with EMUI 5.0.1 on your device. The only thing you could try is LineageOS from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nova-plus/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3704606
Just know you're doing it at your own risk.
