Titanium Backup Restore ist not working from Nougat to Oreo Rom - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi
i´m facing a problem whith Titanium Backup.
I backuped my apps under Nougat LOS14.1 , which i wanted to take with to any Oreo Rom.
after flashing of several Oreo Roms , i didn´t get any App to restore under Oreo.
Titanium Restore still stand 0% and did not anything.
Is this a known Problem, that Apps from Nougat can not restored under Oreo?

Not a known problem that I know of. Well, used to be. When going from Marshmallow to Nougat.
I use TiBu on all Oreo ROMs. Originally anything restored was from Nougat backups.
I take it you're only trying to restore some user apps. No system apps which is a bad idea. Also, not sure if Oreo's change in the naming of items in /data/app/ have any bearing. Maybe not. TiBu would just dump the restored apks there instead of in subdirectories.
If possible, I would suggest installing the apps normally (Play Store, apk, etc.) then restore the data with TiBu. Some apps can be easily reconfigured so it's best to be selective.
Another issue you might come across is device ID. Has Titanium Backup shown a dialog about the backups being from a different device ID? If so, normally you can choose the previous and be good, otherwise data might not restore.
Oreo has changed how it deals with Device ID. TiBu can't make the change. Existing device ID changing tools don't work either.
This one does, on a per app basis...

If you get everything squared away and data restored onto Oreo, create a different Oreo-only backup destination.
Moto G5S Plus XT1806, AOSiP 8.1 ROM, microG (NoGapps), MultiROM, Tapatalk 4.9.5

no dialog about different Device ID
i tried only User Apps to restore, no System Apps
the way with only App Data is a good advice , i will give it a try

The auto install mode on titanium. Backup doesn't work on Oreo, U need to change that to Interactive ( Preferences> App processing mode) change from auto to Interactive, But this will ask install permission per app which can be a lengthy process especially if u have large no. Apps to restore but something is better than nothing

I've had no trouble whatsoever restoring apps and their data with TiBu. But I only restored user apps. Could have something to do with your root solution, probably Magisk. Or SELinux interfering. I use SuperSU on Oreo and all root apps work as expected.

I have TB example in latest AEX. Installed new version of google play services, and it was FCing. I tried to restore previous version from TB, and it did it, at least I thought so. TB didn't give any error message. When I looked in settings>apps and the version of GPServices was not the one from TB, but the one that was giving me problems. Eventually I manually installed the proper version of GPServices. I suspect it could be Magisk 16.0, which is what I am using for root. Non system apps get restored correctly.

Titanium Backup cannot restore my data! help!

I flash to KitKat factory image from CM10.2 (wiped everything including my internal memory), and then I flash to CM11 nightly and use titanium backup to restore only my app data. and here is where the problem comes in, none of my data is restoring from Titanium, although it says data restore completed in titanium, it actually isn't. Every apps force close when I open it after restoring. After that if I restart my phone, those app that i restored will be disappeared from my app drawer, it didn't appear in settings -> app either, if i try to install again it won't install, only way is to manually search for the apk file through file manager and delete it. I cant restore anything from titanium backup! FYI, I only backup the data of the app, not including the apk, but after restoring the app force close and restarting my phone the whole app gone missing from my app drawer. I can't lose all my data. what can I do? please help :crying::crying:
Another question, every time after u guys flash a new rom do u restore the old android ID or use new one in titanium backup?
Latest update of TB has caused some issues for many people. For me, on some roms, it fc's when I click an app to restore. Try googling for an apk of a previous version, and see if the problem persists. Regarding the id, you can keep the new one. Some functions might not work properly though, like location update. You can go into your settings for your Google account on a computer and withdraw access rights for apps and devices, then everything is fine. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Q: Best Backup for Note3 Marshmallow Custom ROMs (backup EVERYTHING)?

After flashing and trying out many Custom ROMs on my Note3, I've been burned several times by having backups that don't work.
For example.
1. Had Lollipop 5.0.1 ROM, backed up everything to Samsung Smart Switch and Samsung Kies. Everything backed up, verified it manually. However, after upgrading to CustomROM MM 6.0.1 I cannot restore anything except contacts. No call log, no SMS, no apps and their settings (this takes most time to manually re-install). So Smart Switch and Kies are useless for me.
2. I also backed up everything in Titanium Pro when doing MM6.0.1 -> MM6.0.1 full wipe install. However, when restoring the backed up apps I had many force closes, many apps didn't work at all, many got their Google Play market issues borked (no amount of manual removal/reinstall helped this) and some could not be restored with my custom settings. So, Titanium Pro is near useless for me.
3. I also backed up to Google's own Marshmallow Backup feature. I got _most_ apps backed up, but not all of their settings and not all restored properly. Again, this is nowhere near 100% success and I had to manually re-install Launcher, it's desktop layout icons/positions, all widgets, all call logs, all SMS messages. Lots of work. This has been the "best so far, but nowhere near good" backup that I've been able to find.
So, is there anything out there on Android 6.x that just works? Always. No questions asked. Restores properly. Has clear reports on how/why/when it fails?
Helium Pro and MyBackup Pro both have tons of recent horrible user reviews. I'm not sure they are any better and rather not risk again all my apps/settings/data, because there's another for-pay software that almost works, sometimes
So, any recommendations?
How do you back all your:
- all contacts
- all call/text logs
- all SMS/MMS messages
- all user installed apps and their settings, all system settings
- all accounts and their passwords
- Launcher & setting and incl. desktop, lock screen, icon positions, app re-naming, etc. (I'm using Nova Prime)
Media files, incl. photos I can and always to backup manually.
Of course, I'm not looking to backup a whole ROM, incl kernel/system/baseband modem. Just the apps/settings and everything else.
Titanium backup can do all the things. Except backing up google password for example because I'm not sure which app is storing it.

Thanks, I already have Titanium Backup *root* and have tried it, but it fails on so many issues still.
Even the google backup is better, IMHO (i.e. more reliable on the average).
Never had TB pro fail over many many years .
That with a Nandroid/ Clockwork mod recovery covers all my needs .
Contacts i backup to sim card and Google.
Dont require text/ calls backup nor SMS messages .

Restored via Clockwork Mod backup restore data .

[Workaround] [Oreo] [Titanium Backup] Can't restore apps

For those who can't restore apps from TB on the latest Oreo ROMs, please see my discovered workaround below.
TB > Menu > Preferences > App processing mode > Interactive
You should now be able to restore app and data, however, it will require your interaction for every app.
Remaining problem: can't freeze apps.
I decided to go back to Android 7.0
Oreo no root
This method worked for me, but it is very tedious as I have restored more than 125 apps.

After first restored app, Titanium shows up on a "install unknown apps" list And no further process
I started having this problem restoring from Titanium. I'm using a Hauwei Mediapad M3 tablet on Android 7. I tried all of the fixes I've been able to find:
1. Turn off verify apps
2. Turn off verify apps over USB
3. Turn off wifi and data
4. Change Titanium preferences to Processing>Interactive
None of these approaches have worked for me. Does anybody have any other ideas to fix this?

Great it worked on Samsung
Hello,
i have used titanium backup many times to restore my whatsapp backup from One phone to Another and it used to work without me having to get verification code from whatsapp.
But since i have installed Lineage OS 15.1 (Oreo), i am not able to restore the backup. Even after successful restoration of backup when i open Whatsapp it take me to Number Verification.
Does anyone here have any work around for it? i am looking to restore my Whatsapp and Other Apps along with DATA from my OLD Phone to my New Phone
Old Phone is : Google Nexus 6 (Running Lineage OS 15.1 Oreo) - Lineage OS Inbuilt Root Access
New Phone is: Nokia 7 Plus (Running Oreo OS 8.1.0) - Magisk Root Access
Please help if anyone has a work around for it..
Note: I cant get verification of whatsapp as my sim is lost and cannot get new one.
Will I be able to use Titanium Backup to restore apps in Oreo that were backed up in lollipop?
I want to upgrade the OS but keep some apps and their data, some transport apps and whatsapp in particular.

Titanium Backup Crashes If You Try To Restore

So over the weekend, I chose to root my phone and get the newest 10u update (model h918) and everything seemed to work fine and everything works well.
However, that changed when I transferred my titanium backup files to my v20 from my note 3 and tried to restore a few games. The thing is that I can backup apps, but can't restore them at all. It crashes in response to it. I've checked google play store reviews and others are experiencing this on the model number, so I hope that there can be a fix to this.
Here's what I did:
Dragged and copied all the backup files from my note 3 to my computer
Created a com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup folder into my sd card.
Dragged and copied all the backup files from my computer to v20
Tried to restore from files, crashes every time.
Tested to see if backing up works, indeed it does.
Restarted my phone and tried again, fails.
Uninstalled and reinstalled
Same thing happens again.
If there's something wrong I hope I get to fix it, otherwise oh well, guess I have to get used to it.
Looking forward for a fix, so please give me some suggestions.
Thanks

I used lafsploit with Magisk 17.1. I did get a "this su may not be compatible with titanium backup, if not, try using SuperSU" obviously we know what happened to that however...

And you have magisk manager 5.9 or 6 installed? Does magisk have the same namespace settings as supersu? Did you try and install titanium backup from googleplaystore? You are trying non-system apps?
NVM this post I accidentally erased it while editing

Magisk Manager version is 6.0.0, I did install Titanium Backup through play store and I'm only restoring non system apps. My namespace settings are Inherited Namespace, not sure what SuperSU has.
Seems a general issue which started since August security patch update.
Tried on two different devices (oneplus one and Mix 2S), both with Android P with August/September security patch and there is no way to avoid this FCs after the first one, at the best you can make it start on the first launch and restore only data, but if it crashes then for some reason it doesn't matter what you do, it will always crash after this.

I have the May Security Patch, I have the system version 10u so I haven't updated to Oreo as of yet
I have the same problem on another device. I got a rom on which titanium worked before but now after a clean install not. I only changed the gapps pack. so I think and has something to do with different or newer packs.
Edit: fixes it by installing titanium 8.1.0 instead of newest build. But I needed to clean install rom because it kept crashing from the previous install

I did a clean install of 10u when I unlocked my phone, but I found out that I can only restore data only, which I'm all good for, at least if anything it's livable, but still looking for fixes.
I had problems with some apps (usually system apps) but most of what i needed like google playstore apps restored fine. Apps that need accounts was always 50/50. I'm still on 10u too. There is a warning on titanium startup about if you have problems try turning off mount namespace separation. May be worth a try.
Also,
I'm running supersu on my v20.

TiBu sucks? am I doing something wrong?

Hi, after rooting my phone with Magisk and having installed TiBu I proceeded to backup all user app + system data then I installed System app remover and removed some system apps that supposedly were "safe" to remove (briefing) but after a reboot I end up in a bootloop. I had to wipe everything and start from scratch (install ROM + Magisk)
On my first try I did not restore my data using Google + Samsung backup. I tried to restore my apps + system data using TiBu but after several hours of waiting to restore, it did not progress and stuck at 0%
On my second try I restored my data using google+samsung backup. After everything was set and ready I used TiBu's "Restore missing apps + all system data". This time TiBU did progress and completed the restore. After a reboot I start to notice that most of my apps/system settings customization are not even there... To name a few:
I had Full screen gestures instead of the navigation buttons. TiBu did not restore this
I had several accounts that TiBu did not restore (google, outlook, twitter, steam, blizzard, twitter and the list keeps going)
Simple things like Gboard was not even restored as default input method
Settings like one hand mode, edge lightning, quick panel layout, adaptive brightness, screen resolution (the list keeps going) were not restored the way I had them
TL;DR: TiBu did little to nothing despite having the pro version and the appropriate backup
My device:
Galaxy S10+ (Exynos SM-G975F)
Android 10 (G975FXXU3BSKO_G975FOWO3BSKO_ARO) patched with Magisk v20.2-11b7076a (20109)
I feel like I wasted my money..... worst spent 6+ dollars of my life
TiBu is a powerful tool if you know how to use it, in a majority of the cases restoring any complete system backup is always a bad idea. If you ever want to restore system data, you need to use nandroid backup or selected apps in TiBu. When you restore user apps (missing apps in your case) all their data is restored and restored to the level of functionality they had before backing up.
For full-screen gestures, it's likely some mismatch between existing settings and restored system settings.
As for the accounts, it was likely because of restoring the app itself, they would have been there even before you backed them up.
Again, for system settings, you can't rely on TiBu in One UI, restoring system settings barely works in stock android.
My workflow is like this, If I am just tinkering with the system but my phone is stable, I do a nandroid backup (backup in recovery) and try out the mod/feature if it suits me, I continue with it, if not I restore back.
If I know I want to format, I generally need to do this when I've messed up in the system and need to start over. I install all I need in TWRP, setup the system only restoring call and SMS backup from Samsung Cloud, restore missing apps and go through the phone settings and set them up again. This ensures no ****ups from the previous install come back and now that I end up doing it regularly, I can do all this under 30 mins.

Thank you for taking your time to reply this thread, I am clearly new at this and I am barely scratching the surface. Gonna try and search more info about this "nandroid backup" (not even know what this is and how it works) you mention and see how it works. As for "TRWP" I read something about it but per the offical site: "Long story short, TWRP support for Android 10 is going to take a while." and that is why I did not pay attention to this app
