Yalp Store let me reset Amazon system apps to factory version - Fire General

I am on an Amazon Fire Table 7 (5th Generation) I thought I would try out Yalp Store since I have no Google apps on the device, I use YouTube Vanced etc. Anyways I downloaded Yalp store and chose the option to show system apps, it let me reset all the huge apps to the factory version freeing up a whole gig of storage. I only have the 8 gig and only had 2.4 left with just my primary apps installed. It also gave me about 40-50 free RAM which is a big deal to me on this little device.
This is the only way I have found to do this with this tablet as there is no option to disable the apps. The apps I reset were Appstore, amazon video, Alexa, home pages, kindle app I believe, and a few others. All the ones it would let me and I NEVER EVER use any of them. It is amazing how huge those useless apps were, now I just wait and see if they will ever try to automatically update again. I have appstore updates turned off and I never registered the device as I use it as a secondary. (thank God) I thought I would share. It doesn't disable the app but it gives you back all the precious forced storage it took.

AppMgr III also does the same job.

[Q] disable autostarting amazon apps

i noticed the kf is autostarting some amazon apps:
amazon appstore, amazon video, amazon mp3, amazon kindle, amazon launcher and pulse
if i close them, most of them restart and use memory.
i don't need them preloaded, some of them i don't need at all.
is it possible to disable the autostart for these apps ?
the usual progs from the market don't seem to work on the kf !
tried startup cleaner, startup manager and some others.
any suggestions would be very appreciated - thanks !
I had good luck uninstalling these apps with Titanium backup. Definitely back them up though. I remember staying away from anything that looked like an Amazon library and not necessarily an application. I didn't suffer any repercussions, but I can't say what would happen if you uninstall something you shouldn't or when the next update from Amazon comes. Also it's my understanding that Android is designed to load and unload apps from memory as memory needs change, so you might not really gain as much as you would hope by uninstalling these apps.

i don't want to unstall one of these apps - only stop them autostarting ..
Android is designed to load and unload apps from memory as memory needs change
Click to collapse
then it doesn't matter what's loaded at startup !
thanks for the info !
If you are rooted System Tuner Pro has the ability to disable startup of apps. It's quite handy for other things also. It's a paid app, $3 I think.

[Q] March 24th update messed up my Fire

After today's update, I no longer have any of my books, can't view the cloud books either. The music section is no longer there, and I have a stupid music button scrolling my last song played when I hit the setting at the top. All of my favorite apps are gone and Amazon tech has no idea why, they are wanting me to do a factory reset, but we spent so long trying to fix it that they have to call me back when the battery if over 40%. Anyone else have a problem with this update?
What update are you referring to? There hasn't been an update past version 6.2.2.
Yes, there was today. http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...Forum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx1SYOUQZI1SLRR
It updated the reader and mp3 player and I don't knwo what else, but it also installs Google Play.

u sure about that? i don't see that listed anywhere...
I found out what the problem was, as well as the updates were coming from Google's Play!
I had the same problem. Only way to get my books back was to do a TWRP backup that was a month old.
Same here. Had to recover from an old backup using TWRP.
After all of the BS, I found it best to turn off background sync and make sure the Play is not allowed to update automatically.
Looks like it will be an active day in this forum after the Amazon KF update has tweaked rooted devices.
i'm doing following (on stock rom):
- no automatic updates (only manually)
- don't update amazon software from google play (the kf has special versions which are integrated with the stock launcher - google play is'nt aware of)
- atm this is amazon mp3 and the kindle app
if you accidentially updated one of it simply go to settings - applications and select amazon mp3 or kindle - select uninstall updates - no need to restore a backup
hope this helps ...
I too noticed that all of my books disappeared today.
I still run the stock 6.2.2 ROM, rooted, with Market (google services apps), GO and ADW launchers installed for a more android-like experience. I have my home button set to run GO launcher, and I access the original Kindle Fire UI via a shortcut to "Launcher"
After fighting with this problem of my books all being gone for about an hour, I found that:
1. the Market app is now Play Store, so it looks like that has updated itself.
2. Google's Play Store has installed "Amazon Kindle" app which seems to conflict with the native Kindle software (the app drawer used to have the app "Launcher" as the only app to get back into the stock looking UI that incorporated the reader and book list, but now there is also the app "Amazon Kindle" in the app drawer as well that allows access to books, not the stock UI though).
3. re-registering the device via the Amazon Kindle app seems to allow me access to my books, through the Amazon Kindle app, while the native UI/reader (called "Launcher", with the shelves) does not properly download/show my books.
4. Instead of short-cutting to the "Launcher" app, which is the original kindle fire UI, I set my shortcut to the "Amazon Kindle" app, which seems to work fine.
I only now realize that others are having the same problem I've had, as I read this thread. I still wonder exactly what has been updated -- is this trouble caused by Play Store or Amazon or both?
I for one will not miss running the stock UI, "Launcher", because I thought it was ugly, and now that I can't use it to access my books, it is also useless to me. I suppose that for those who do like it as a launcher, you could add the new GooglePlay-added app Amazon Kindle, to your list of apps in the native launcher, if you really like it and want to continue using it.
After all of this, I am seriously considering flashing a new ROM, which leads me to a few questions: If I run CM7, can I completely erase the kindle ROM from hogging up a portion of ROM space? More importantly, will I lose the ability to take full advantage of my Amazon Prime account I pay for, such as watching Amazon Prime videos?
I actually ran into this problem on Thursday. At first, I thought it was because I played with SuperUser and tried to install Busybox. I ended up restoring a backup that I had from when I first rooted my Fire (which was only a couple of weeks ago). Then when reinstalling everything that I had done in the meantime, it happened again. So another restore. I then started reinstalling things one by one and came upon the problem being the Kindle app. I deleted the update and things seem to be right now.
So maybe just deleting the update is enough to get things back to normal?

Makes perfect sense... Thanks, b

Google Play (Market) vs. Amazon Appstore

I'm not attached to any Google Apps and it seems to me that getting Play (Market) installed on the Nook is a bit of a pain.
Moreover, Google goes out of the way to make it difficult.
The Amazon Appstore gives you a URL to just download their store app.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get-appstore/android
Isn't Amazon a better place to go for apps? Your opinion?
Afaik, amazon apps only can be downloaded from few countries, such as usa, canada, australia etc. It is not active on my country, so its not an option..
It's just another app store; there's several others. The only differences I've seen are 1) some apps get updated faster on the Play store; and 2) your purchases are not backed up to your google account so when you set up a new device you have to go to the amazon app store and find/download the apps you want individually.
There are a number of apps I use that aren't on Amazon; the Market is the only source.
I'll just add that some of the apps that you get off Amazon, including free ones,
require you to keep the Amazon Appstore on your device to run them.
This may not be an issue for some, but if you use logcat,
continuous 1/2 page burps of complete nonsense out of the Appstore application in the logcat is a distraction.

updated to fire os version 7.3.2.2...what did they do?

ok, thread title says it all..what'd they do to Fire Os this time?
...and while I'm thinking about it...anyone know where I can find patch/release notes for the fireos?
so far all i've noticed is that they removed paginated scrolling from folders
I noticed that SD cards formatted as extended storage (to install apps) are not working fine under kids profile. When you try to install an app that goes on the extended storage (SD) instead of the internal storage, it gives a warning saying that it is running low of storage space; yet I can proceed with the install.
If I restart the tablet, however, the app(s) installed in the SD card, under a kids profile, are gone.
The issue happens in two different Amazon Fire HD tablets: One 9th gen, and one 11th gen
Each tablet has a different SD card: 9th Gen a Samsung EVO 256GB, the 11th gen a SanDisk Ultra 256GB.
The issue ONLY happens under a kids profile. Any app installed in the extended storage (SD) under an adult profile does not give a warning of low disk space, and they persist just fine after a reboot .
I have an 11th gen still running 7.3.1.9 and second adult profile cannot write to SD card acting as portable storage. I was wondering if an update would help, but sounds like these tabs still have issues with SD cards vs non-primary profile.
so..it just updated AGAIN...what did they do to it?
I'm not hallucinating! split screen apps! yatta!

Is fire hd 8 have dolby atmos ? I can't find that icon to access it
SUPPOSEDLY they do, but I cant find any settings for it either.
i noticed another thing too, the keyboard now has a speech to text option.
it...can kind of be..hit or miss on accuracy.
lets just say I tried to voice type a comment about grocery shopping to my sister and it ended up with words I wouldn't repeat to my own worst enemy, forget family ^^;
now there's a recent apps section and the home screen is completley different now, and somehow worse. and the imdb tv app can be uninstalled from google play... yay
how do I access the recent apps section?
it doesn't seem like every device has it, its at the top of the home screen.
heres a screenshot of it
how interesting..it looks like its part of the 'recommended widget'
looking at it some more they also added a unified search option in settings which allows you to turn on bing (lol) and use it for the searchbar search engine, i think it also effects silk
they also revamped the help app, it's actually useful now!
You can always just install Google play store/framework/account manager/services the install a new launcher and disable com.amazom.firelauncher it will be identical to a tablet without fire Os and the home button will make the launcher home once the Amazon app is disabled with ADB
I set bing as my preferred search provider...thanks for the tip there ^^

Amazon Fire 10HD 11th Gen + Google Play Store error

So after my grandchildren signed me up to Amazon Prime without my knowledge on my kindle fire, I decided to use the kindle toolbox on their brand new fire HD 10 tablets (11th generation).
I completely debloat all the Amazon software (after enabling dev options menu), install google play services, waited a minimum of 10 mins as advised before trying google play and I also installed evie launcher – all of this was done using the toolbox v27.
The problem is when I try to log my kids into their new tablets using their own gmail accounts, I keep getting the ‘something went wrong’ screen and all I can do is try again, but it keeps on failing.
I’ve tried not removing amazon software and then adding google play, but that doesn’t work.
The only thing that does work is if I login to play store using my account.
My thinking is this must be a family link / permissions thing because they’re all under 8 years old.
The really confusing thing is when I did this same thing on my kids Huawei T30 tablets, it worked fine, no problems???
So, it’s either some security setting in the fire tablet, or because these fire tablets have a newer version of android than the old and no longer working Huawei tablets (Android v6).
Anyone got any ideas how I can login my kids into their own play store on their own fire hd 10 tablets using their own google accounts, without creating child profiles and without leaving my account logged in on their tablets for them?
The only thing I can come up with is to change their d.o.b. in their google accounts, log them in, then change it back, but I suspect this won’t work long term.
I really need to understand what’s causing the problem first.
