Is this good battery life? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

This is with a custom rom, after this first test, I turned off wifi scanning.
and put battery saving from 15 % to turn on at 25%, also, I set the screen to use half the pixels while on battery saving, I'm hoping to reach around 5 hours SoT with around 24 hours of standby.
Should be doable?

Yeah, about normal SoT, but it depends on what apps you use, what number of them are running in the background etc. To me both of OP and Nikola_zr are pretty much standard SoT and overall battery life.

I was able to get this out of it, I'm quite happy.
As you can see I'm a heavy youtube user, I watch videos while I'm answering messages, or surfing Facebook.

To be fair the app itself isn't really much of an impact, but the screen being on during that app. YouTube won't actually use much because we have a dedicated video decoder hardware.
You would find that 90%+ of that YouTube usage is screen on time while YT was in foreground.

If you're in oreo, this battery life is pretty normal. Why? There's only 4h on screen time, whereas Android oreo has (in this moment) the more enhanced deep sleep, being off-screen almost doesn't take battery life. This is why you got 23h withou charging.
Check out what I think a good battery life is like:

Agreed. Facebook app is a huge baterry drainer (trust me, I had a Zenfone 5, I NEEDED TO BACKUP BATTERY lol). So, since Zenfone I found out that stock Facebook app eat a bunch of battery (even if backgrounding), I started to use Web version and now FBLite wich does pretty much the same as the stock FB app, but almost without draining battery.
Tip: use FBlite and be happy

FB uses a lot on low RAM devices I've found, but on Mi A1 it doesn't seem like too much. If you turn off all notifications and video autoplay, anyway.
I've tried all the alternative FB clients and they're pretty crap compared to official app. None of them remember the news feed position you're at if you go in to comment on something, for example. It always reloads.

Does My Battery Seem A Bit Poor (amongst other things)?

Hi all, new Nexus 7 user here! I'm really liking this device and its definitely a keeper. So far, I think I've dodged most of the known issues such as screen lift, dead line of pixels, sound issues, etc.
One thing I'm noticing, or maybe I'm paranoid, is that I "feel" my battery is draining somewhat fast (compared to my iPad 2).
I'm not running a lot of widgets, only a clock widget, weather widget, and settings toggle widget. Also have sound boost and terminal, which I think are also running since they're always shown in the notifications center. I can't provide a screenshot since I'm new and it won't let me, but here are the stats:
28% and Discharging
1d 12h 7m 30s on Battery with screen taking up 77% (~33% brightness I think, the screen is really bright by the way!)
Time On (Screen) 4h 35m 1s
Basically all my use has been web browsing, via Chrome (tilt thing turned off) and Dolphin HD, and maybe 20 minutes of light gaming. I don't have Push Email turned on, its on Manual.
Anyway, if anyone could provide any insight as to whether my battery performance is on par or not, I'd really appreciate it!
Close terminal when you're not using it.
I get about 6 hours screen on time. Your battery seems fine, idle time with wifi also uses battery so by the time it runs out you'll have like 5 and a half hours plus the idle time. About normal.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I have terminal on because I'm currently doing the manual fix for smartdimmer issue. I'm not sure if turning off terminal would kill the fix, I'll go and tweak around a bit.
I just don't understand how various review sites are saying it lasts 9+ hours though, seems a bit out of reach for me currently.
It can definitely last that long with use, some users have reported that. Likewise, don't think anything is wrong with your device.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I've seen from the battery post various users posting very high battery life, and it all made me very shiny-eyed! Haha. Anywho, I guess I should just go and enjoy this thing instead of being all OCD.
I'm actually getting a little bit worse than that myself, so I wouldn't be alarmed at all
And this is my 3rd Nexus 7 and all of them have had similar battery life to yours.
Thanks for the reply. Feeling much more confident now.
I am using auto brightness and my room condition is usually on darker side these days so I am getting very good screen times although I have turn of prism feature of Tegra 3 which used to cause over exposed colors during and after video play back. Turning off prism does hurt battery a bit but I am still getting very good screen times using xda app, chrome and YouTube. It might be the reason that mostly my room is on darker side and I am on auto brightness and the screen does not have to pump high brightness all the time rather only when required.
I am attaching some photos and in this particular instance I noticed that I didn't use my nexus 7 for 10-11 hours after fully charged and of course unplugged from charger. There was zero drop in battery percentage for those 10-11 hours although the screen time was around 23 mins during that time because of apps refreshing etc which you can also see from screen shots. It seems that very easily I am going to get 8+ screen time which is very impressive of course when I play games in between then it goes down to 5-6 hours screen time. This is the first instance where I have not played any games. People do say the battery consumption is not linear but so far it is relatively linear for me.

I do get full bars of WiFi and I don't have any problem with WiFi which some people are reporting and this does play and bigger role that is when your WiFi signal is weak then your tablet has to use more juice out of battery in order to make an effort to enhance the signal strength. I am sitting 15 feet from router most of the time.

Really bad battery life

My device has been completely stock running ART kitkat.
Battery life has been really bad the last few weeks. (Possibly due to 4.4.4?)
I have switched off location services, Google now, and only sync gmail.
I can only squeeze out around 2 hours and 30 minutes max compared to 4 hours 30 I was able to before. (Same settings, flight mode WiFi only)
Any one have any advice please? How can I monitor and see what's draining? I've tried a a few apps but I can't find anything.
Thank you.

None taken.
I may be a recognised contributor, however in the last 18 months I've lost my interest in mobile technology, and hence I have little knowledge on mobile tech today.
I consider myself a "normal user" now. I just use my phone as it is as a regular user completely stock and I don't know these tech things anymore.
Any help is appreciated, any other info I can give? I'm rather incline not to factory reset my phone.
App sucker screen if this helps?
So daily mail is the cause?
It is the usage that drains your battery life. If fact daily mail online doesnt drain so much. I dont know, how much and how often you use your phone and that is what really matters.
What really drains batterie (and most people dont know this) is waking up your device often. When you wake up your device all cores goes to max frequency before turning down slowly. By 4 cores it drains a lot of energy. The second is the screen brightness. The brighter the screen, the more it drains. An than there are many other factors like signal strength and quality, apps...
So to sum it up, it is your usage behavior that influence your battery life. To compare I am on cm11 with matr1x kernel, do alot of surfing, chatting, listening to music and the average screen on time is 4 hours. You may try it out.

Thanks mate, appreciated.
I forgot to post my brightness.
I usually have my phone on flight mode at home and WiFi signal a minimum of 3 bars. (Excuse the screenshot which is an exception)
I suppose with my phone I do always switch it on and off multiple times, however I haven't had this battery drainage problem in the past, it only occurred in the last few weeks and I have the same usage pattern. I suspect it was the 4.4.3/4.4.4 update because prior to that battery was fine.
Thanks for the suggestion of the ROM, however I'm planning to keep my device stock and I still haven't factory reseted it since day 1 (August 2013) and hope I do not need to.
Thanks all the same.
Open to more suggestions many thanks to everyone.
Install Greenify and hibernate Daily Mail Online. It's the one draining your battery I guess.
Greenify works without root, but if I remember correctly you need to hibernate apps manually.

Throw Out Your Z5 Marshmallow SoT Screenshot

Hi all,
Lemme give you some of my information about my Z5 before we throw our SoT screenshot.
I bought it on UK amazon last October and it was international version. I checked it on Xperifirm and it said mine was taiwan version.
I was having battery drain problem and was guessing the problem was because different region might cause battery drain problem due to mobile data support. So I flashed it on US version and wanted to compare the battery life before and after update.
Due to new user policy I am not allowed to post the link to my SoT image, so i might just let you guys throw out screenshots. But for me I got 3h 43m screen on time when the battery is 16%. I unplugged the charge at 10am in the morning and record it at 1 am next day.
So here it is guys. If you updated your Z5 to 6.0 would you mind throwing out your SoT screenshot and give a comment about how you think about the battery performance for marshmallow so far.
Have a nice day!

Can someone help me figure outwhy my phone is constantly awake? looks like I should be getting at least an hour more screen time. Only have a few basic apps- Facebook, messenger, inbox, snapchat. seems like my android os is constantly downloading over WiFi? 53,000+ packets received via android OS - anyone else have this?
Pretty sure Facebook and Snapchat are huge drainers.

I updated recently so haven't had the chance to check battery time yet, but back on 5.x I noticed a huge difference when I uninstalled the Facebook app. I replaced it with just the mobile version since its nearly just as good anyways.
I don't use snapchat, but Facebook is on mine with emails constantly using data. Mostly on WiFi except about an hour a day.
Yesterday was a day for testing and making sure it all work. Wasn't a normal day, but you should be getting a little more. If you have just updated leave it a few days. Could be just setting up.

How in the world do you get such a hi SOT? I barely reach 4 hours here :crying:

Defective battery ?

Hello,
I bought a grey unit of the Axon 7 and received it on Wednesday. 100% satisfied about the phone but there's something that concerns me : battery life.
I ran the GSam Battery Monitor app to check my battery stats and, particularly the sot which seems pretty low (considering all the things I've read about it from reviews/feedbacks)
The brightness is on max (no auto-brightness), wifi/cellular are on (wifi discovery is off), loc/bt/sync is off. All the gestures, mipop and smart power are off and I'm using Nova Launcher (if that matters).
Now, how I got those numbers : I thought I'd test the battery with several apps before coming here and start a thread. So I ran a Youtube clip for about half an hour, 50 minutes of Netflix, one run of Antutu 3D and 3 hours of the Antutu benchmark. So, basically, I went from a 100% to 9% with the screen on all the time and some cpu-taxing apps for a fair amount of time. I don't know if that's the best way to test a battery but I did it anyway.
Judging fron the numbers you see on the screenshot, would you say this is concerning or good for such a young battery (haven't done a 0-100% charge yet but I thought it wouldn't matter since this is li-po) ?
Thank you.
5 to 6 hours of screen time is the most you'll get out of this device. Knowing you did it in brightness on max and got 5 hours. I'm guessing you're battery is fine.

I get about the same if not , worse and I'm not even on a high brightness. The reviews are paid I bet because I get not so good battery life like they claim ..
Max Brightness, 5h sot is a good score in heavy usage. If you're only watching some videos some might do better (1h30 tops) but if you're using the phone for gaming and **** you won't have any better results on other flagships (at least not significantly better).
I'm just a normal user, not paid. My battery shows up in Accubattery as 3100mAh, but I'm getting 8h SOT — that's 3 hours more than I got with my OnePlus One!

No the reviews are spot on. You need to distinguish between typical SoT and maximum SoT, which Gsam and Accubattery focus on.
Typical for light use would be around 4-5 hours, that's when you have a lot of screen-of time and don't use the phone more than a few hours per days - it is lower due to discharging also happening with screen off.
Maximum for continued use without any screen-off time should be 8-9 hours, varies based on screen brightness and content APL mainly (web browsing - which has around 90% APL - and on high brightness may get it as low as 7 hours whereas video playing - which has around 40% APL - and on low brightness may increase it to 12 hours).
Mine is 9 hours in mixed use at about 25% auto brightness

New Battery Life Discussion

I know there are many like this. But some have very basic methods, that may or may not work. Since most/all threads are currently inactive, I thought of creating a new one. MOD: YOU CAN DELETE THIS THREAD IF YOU WISH
So let's start giving this 2 year old phone, a battery life. Every post claiming with tips/tricks should also provide a screenshot of their Screen On Time, and Time on Battery (since unplugged/ full charge)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...crypted-galaxy-s6-battery-life-t3120047/page2
The above is a link to an xda thread, where a person claimed to have some improvements in battery life due to encryption.
There is no tricks or adjustments. there is no way we are in the hands of Samsung for some we expect updates

I dont use bt and for calibration let the battery discharge to 0 and get the phone shutdown and full charge the battery.
Do this for 3 or 4 cycles and that all i do.
