How is the phone holding up. I it worth buying. - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

How is the phone holding up, it it good. People are complaining about touch lag, poor battery optimization, poor vibration etc. Did Asus tried to cut down the cost by using cheap quality components. Is it worth buying over Redmi note 5 pro.

I did not faced any issue apart from one freeze Sound settings ( which was fixed after restart).
Other than that it is smooth and great.
Battery backup is excellent after turning off background run of google play services.

Stock ROM Google Services eating battery

So I've been using this phone for a little over 3 weeks now, and I am loving everything about it (except being stuck on MF3.. thanks Hash!)
My question is how do I stop Google Services from eating so much battery? It seems that whenever the play store decides to update apps.. or sometimes just no reason at all it decides to take up a chunk of the battery?
I'm quite happy with the battery life on the stock ROM.. but when google services starts to take over my phone while it's in my pocket it sucks any advice? Here is my most recent battery life with GPS and WiFi used when needed.. normal day but it had 37 minutes of wakelocks due to google services.
Thanks

I've been through this... I only sync the things I used to sync with my other Androids nothing has changed. But thanks!

if youve used google maps before it turns on automatic gps, so you gotta turn that off too. for that
youll have to open google maps>google location>then turn off acess location
there are a number of factors that play along it as well. ie: nfc, and the samsung features.

[Q] Google play services battery drain..

Anyone having trouble with over normal battery drain from google play services? I haven't had any issues with this unntil now
I do not have google now on, location services is off, so what is it that drain so much?
Might be a stupid question, but anyways thanks for all answers!

try these settings.
Settings -> Location access -> Off
Google Settings ->Location -> Location Reporting Off, Location History Off
with those settings, i can have google now On, and still not battery drain.
I have google now and location settings on. I don't have battery drain. I average 22 hours with 6 hours screen on time.
Sorry, Gsam says my average is about 18 1/2 hours. Play services uses 0.1%
nlpwakecollector under google services is wake locking my device like crazy. Trying different settings to see if I can reduce the wakelocks
If you are rooted, uninstall play services and reinstall it from the play store.
Im going to try that last thing cash. . So thanks for that
Anyways, have 17% left and only used the phone for 11 hours and 3.45min screen on time, not that
Good...
And im not rooted yet, has not felt the need for it like with my old galaxy s2..

Location.
1. Disable location reporting from both Google Settings and the Settings menu of the phone.
2. Clear data of the Google Play Services app.
3. Reboot.
Let us know if it helps.
On another hand, on Android Police there is an article about how Play Services drained the batteries of numerous people across the world. So it might be something temporary over on Google's side.

Before blaming Location services, people should do some googling. On 11/19, there's been reports that Google Play Services is causing a good number of people to have battery issues. It seems to be an issue on Google's side.
Wait a day or two before making any changes.

Sucks that its happening, but glad to see that other people are experiencing the same issue with Google Play Services that we have seen the last couple of days. Its not horrible, but it is draining the battery an extra 10-15% during the work day so i get home with 70% instead of 85%
Hopefully google fixes it or someone figures out the actual cause !

You are right. Today I do not have a battery drain like how it was draining yesterday Only thing that I did yesterday was to uninstall Goolge Play Services and reinstalled it from play store. After full nite's recharge it is doing really good on battery like always. Today I'm still left with 77% of battery after 11 hours on battery. So in fact my battery is better than ever.
I hate to bump an old thread, but I am having this issue as well. My phones been on for 11.5 hours and Google play services has kept it awake for 10.5. I thought it was from listening to music, but I didn't listen at all today and still the same.
One thing I do notice is it keeps popping up saying keeping requested music in the notification bar even though I haven't selected any new songs in a couple days and they are all downloaded already.
I'm not rooted yet

Fixing Google play services battery drain

Ok so my phone would die after around 5-6 hours of doing nothing, I found by going to device administrators and disabling "android device manager" and then going to settings > apps > all > Google play services. You are now able to force stop the app. After doing this I have now have no battery drain and this don't seem to cause any other issues

So the battery drain problem is on Google side instead of SONY?

I believe that you did not fully understand what the OP has stated in his first post. I think he might be on to something. I'm going to test it on my phone and (if I don't forget) I will report back. Turning off location for ADM would actually be a better solution for me than turning off location as a whole.
ok, and what I do at all is Setting > Locations > Google Location Reporting > TURN OFF Location reporting , TURN OFF Location history .
and the problem just fixed ..

Toggling 'Location reporting' also toggles location reporting to Google Device Manager I guess.
For me disabling google services helped
On xperia z disabling network and wifi location, location history, some other stuff and some google services increased the battery life significantly. See pics.

Don't you remember the last time you said this and people linked you to various examples of other devices suffering battery drain because of Google Play Services? Or do you just like finding reasons to complain about Sony?
I suggest that you'll be better off posting complaints (valid or not) or suggestions in the Sony support forum for the Xperia Z in future, where someone from Sony will actually see it.

It's just the powered cradle for the motorbike. Had few rides and in between used for 50 min google maps in a car without charging.
For me the problem would always creep back after a few days of use.
The way I fixed it was to disable location reporting, ads and automatic backup. I then rebooted into recovery and wiped Dalvik and Cache.
Now it's been over a week and Google Play Services doesn't even appear in the top list of battery usage anymore.
Hope this helps.

I just noticed the manage space button under play services where you can force stop it. Is this a kitkat feature? I never had access to it before. It actually crashed on me after I,cleared the cache the first time.. Weird
I have a few questions (sorry if they're unrelated):
1. If I disable location reporting, will google's android device manager be able to locate my phone?
2. If GPS is disabled in the action bar, are apps still able to use location reporting? If so, do they use wifi triangulation or do they turn on gps temporarily?

It's not necessarily on EVERYONE's phones. I didn't have this before and when GPlay Services updated I did. So no, it's not Sony's fault. Some people just don't understand that Sony does not have control over Google Play Services and what it does.
I also have access to both a Z1 and a Z2, both of which are running 4.4.2 and just disproves your claim even more.

[Q] Android OS high battery use, no apparent wake locks

All of a sudden, my battery life went from awesome to crap like it does from time to time after something gets updated. At first the culprit was Google Play Services so I started hacking away services and receivers using 3C Toolbox which made the problem worse. So I backed up all my user apps that I use, wiped, and re-installed PA 6/20 build with the latest pico GApps. Google Play services had a good wakelock on the system so I disabled the SystemUpdateActiveReceiver and SystemUpdateSecretReceiver with AutoRunManager (SystemUpdateReceiver was already disabled). That solved the Google Play services wakelock but now I am left with Android OS crushing my battery, but no listed wake locks. CPU Spy reports a few seconds of deep sleep, if any. Here is some info from Battery and WLD. These were taken after I charged 100% before bed, and had most of my user apps frozen with Root App Delete, wifi, data, and location off.

See or it's maybe related to google play services, click on it and see if there are maybe any related things. If you are going to return your phone for this reason then I don't get you cause this is just a awesome phone. Try to maybe do a factory reset if nothing works.

My phone still says it's awake all the time and Google play services is using the Lions share of my battery, however I am getting about 2 days out of my battery like I used to before this problem. It's annoying, but I don't think it's that bad. You can try disabling those 2 receivers with auto run manager like I did but if your battery is even worse after that I would just re-enable them and leave it.

The phone was bought off as the last one on the store. Worten, in Portugal. So it was a demo phone. I have no idea, for how long the phone was plugged in to the charger, being demo'ed. I am afraid the batttery has lost some of it's power. Nonetheless, i will use it for a few days and then return it for warranty if i don't think it's in prime condition...
Also, i had an HTC HD2 with custom rom, then moved to a Galaxy S2 with a custom rom as well (AOSP 4.4.2 with Cyanogen) and now i am using the stock LG rom. I can't say exactly that it sucks, but for sure i prefer the stock AOSP experience with the right tweeks.
Well, a patently I got 6:55, and 33 hours of phone usage on my first experience with the car phone. I used 3g, wife, and web browsing. I don't know if it's good, but I highly doubt it...

Nexus 6P / mediaserver / audio on - battery drain

Nexus 6P users with GSam Battery Monitor and Root Companion, do you notice the one of the highest battery drainers is under "System (mediaserver) and when you click into it is shows "Audio On" for a very long time?
I did not play any music or anything with much sound except normal apps notification. I also tried uninstalling updates of Youtube/Google Music etc and cleared data and cache, and uninstalling a few possible apps such as apps relates to "sounds and music" and the "Audio On" time just keeps going.
Is it normal? If not, any solution or suggsetions? Some users suggested it's Ok Google always on. Thanks.

I have the same, but never managed to find out if it was normal or not. Audio on time was generally a bit more than the Screen on Time. OK Google was completely turned off.
I'm still to establish if it is a GSAM reporting issue, or a real problem.
Are you on the stock factory image but rooted? Is your OK Google set to always on, within the Google app, or never? I had the same problem when reverting back to stock, but switched to PureNexus and started using Amplify and Naptime and it has improved significantly. It does go up when I play music/podcasts though but that's normal I think.

I am on everything stock except rooted. My OK Google is always on but i tried to disable it and still see the "Audio On" time counting. But I do notice the Audio On time does not always count. I failed to find any sorts of co-relation of the time to any apps though. It feels so random. I have already tried uninstalling Music App, some apps with notification time and now disabling Google OK always on, but still the time counts on.
I am having the same issue since few days now.. The mediaserver (especially audio on) usage is really really high.

It looks like wechat draining bro, after receiving any notification from wechat or idleing it will cause it drain on audioon bugs.
If you force close wechat and recheck it stop at the value.
I've been having this issue too. I've been switching back and forth between Chroma and Pure Nexus and it hasn't changed. I always get at least 25% drain due to mediaserver audio on. It's driving me crazy :/

I have the same problem! I will give some stats: Ok Google always on, no local music only play music, no spotify, pocket casts, I tried to only scan with notification, 2 clean installs, my kernel often keeps the device awake.
Running Kylo on Ubermallow with Amplify. I think this drain is real, because when I did not have it my battery lasted longer.
absolutly same issue here :/
it seems started with February security patch, no media file change (not added, not moved of folder, nothing!). I've not played music/video while testing this.... :/
OkGoogle everywhere is OFF
i've no music streming app/services, any chat (just hangouts), any other change on my setup these days.... :/
Has anybody figured this out yet? I had skipped January and February's security patches and was still on MMB29M. This only started about 4 days ago for me. I upgraded to the latest patch, MMB29Q, and... the glitch was fixed for a day hours but has now come back. :\

Interesting. I use gravity box notification light control. Are you suggesting that when an app controls the led it could cause this issue?
