Screen replacement - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

Hello guys, i have a problem with my htc u ultra, i got an yellow stain on my display near the buttons and its a big one.
And as i am a lucky person, thr warranty dosent cover it as htc is known for.
So my question is, do you know a good/original screen replacement?(good price too, to be worth the repair)

Nothing? Nobody changed the screen? ?

Seems like none. It is quite uncommon phone so aftermarket parts will be really hard to get. (Plus the service will be a pain because back cover is glued and will surely crack while opening!)

Nea, it wont crack, with a heat gun you can open it.
The problem is what screen is a good replacement

Urgent help required!!!!

Hi guys,i dropped my phone and my screen stopped responding.it was a nasty hit on my HD so i contacted HTC here in Cyprus and they told me that is the screen and its gone!!!They do not cover drops and they are overpriced in changing my screen cause they say that the bezel has to be changed too!
Does anyone know where i can find a fully assembled screen with the bezel so i can do it my self??If not does anyone has any idea how the screen seperates from the bezel along with the digitiizer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Does it have cracks? If not:
My suggestion, Go to another HTC centre and simply say screen is not working. Let them find the cause See what they quote. If it is a micro-crack or something not visible to naked eye they might simply replace it for benefit of doubt under warranty. I had a very trivial fall of my Nokia and I saw that LCD stopped working. No cracks nothing. I went to svc centre and they replaced it. When I asked why it happened they said sometimes LCDs do fail..
Some others may be upset with my suggestion though.. but worth trying. I think they should have given a better prot4ection or more easy replaceability of the glasstop/digitiser.

touchscreen does not "untouch"

Hi Folks,
I'm reading this forum since about 1,5 weeks, as I got my first smartphone then. Unfortunaly I sent it back today, as it got broken yesterday. It has the problem, that the touchscreen doesn't untouch. I made a picture:
I can get rid of this touched area by pressing on it with my fingernail and move it to the bottom.
I think it's from that lether case. Anybody else ever had a problem like that? Probably with another phone type?
Looks like condensation under the screen to me.
Reapply screen protector... That's it..
I thought about water also, but under the microscope we have seen that it wasn't water. I was able to remove it restless until I touched it next.
I removed the screenprotector, but that wasn't a solution.
Unfortonaly I had to send it back today, as I'll get a brandnew one within the first 14 Days after delivery
Wow that's new. Mebe condensation.
Maybe since the touch part is 2 layers, Glass and Plastic screen hovering on top of that, that it got too hot somehow and that the plastic part got stuck to the glass. mebe if you had let it cool or something it woulda unstuck.
Was the phone near any heat or in direct sunlight?\
This looks like a cracked digitizer, a touch sensitive layer above the screen itself. The screen underneath usually seems to be fine, but it doesn't have the touch capabilities anymore. It has a look of spilled liquid and you should be able to see dots of the touch grid, you can't see them normally. It happened to me on my Orbit2. I think whole screen has to be changed...

I thought about something like that too. Has the digitizer a "spazial" filling, so that you have a "soft feeling" when you tab it with the penzil?

I had the phone in my trouser pocket every day. No sunlight or heat. I tried cooling down...no chance. I had a Cassiopeia once and had a waterdamage to it. There I was able to get the water out of the touchpad by having it on my heating for a few days. But it looked not like this here.

I had the same screen protector...strange. I removed it before i sent it back. After removing I tried, but the error wasn't gone. I think better remove it before sending it back, but you should also try if this fixes the problem. Tell us if or if not

i have removed the screenprotector but is the same error, i have sended it to assistance center this afternoon...
i wouldn't pay for damage why the phone is never fall
i hope well
Just had the same problem with my Td2. Not impressed. The phone was fine one minute as listening to my music on it, popped it in my pocket went upstairs ang got this blob right in the centre of the screen.
Glad I took the insurance now as this is going to have to get sent back. Not overly impressed as only had the phone for 6 weeks and having a problem with the build.
Just a quick question for those that had this problem. Was the damaged screen visible under all types of light?
I ask this because taking into different rooms in my house and different types of light it seems to disappear, then reappears under other light sources. I will test in the daytime tomorrow but am now starting to wonder exactly how long it has been there...

My "blob" couldn't be seen when I looked straight from above. As on my pictrue I had to look from a angle to see it. Also it was hard to see under bright daylight. Hope that helps.
But I have a question also: You all used the leather bag shipped with the phone? I think the case isn't plain enought inside. I think there is a higher pressure one the display while wearing it in my trouser pocket. Anybody else who can tell more about that?
I've the same problem, at least I think it is the same. Touch still works fine, but it seems like there is some condensation underneath the screen.
I can confirm that it has nothing to do with the screenprotector.
If I put my finger on it, it moves to the sides. Sometimes it seems to be gone, but after a while I notice it again.
It's a very colourful stain. Can I claim warranty for this kind of 'errors'?

As you are the 4th in this thread I think so
It's not under warranty of HTC, at least that's what they told me...
Did somebody else contacted HTC about this problem?

too bad it seems like they classify it under 'cracked display' - and according to the user manual it is not covered by warranty.
Probably, but I think it's just an error of HTC. The way they treat their loyal customers is, in my opinion, verry disappointing. It was the same with the problems everyone had with the TytnII.
Today I got my phone back from my provider...the same broken one. In the letter they told my I sent it back too later
Now I'm dissapointed from o2 Germany, cause the customer support told me what to do and I did it.
guys i had the same problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519441) and i got a replacement. but i tell you.. this is caused because one time the phone got hit by pressure on the screen and the screen itself kinda felt into the phonecase. check out from the side.. you probably will see that the screen is lowered - then when you use fingers on the touchscreen this blob appears. in my case the screen didnt work anymore as soon the blob appeared... but was able to get it out with some tissue and rubbing.
also i saw some oil liquid under de screen - depending on the light outside.
so.. just take care.. this phone is very sensitive to any pressure on the screen and using it in a trouser pocket is already dangerous!

How to polish or replace the screen on a Topaz?

My Topaz screen has developed a disappointing amount of scuff marks in the four months I've had it, making it not quite as clear to read in a few specific areas as I'd like.
Does anyone know of products or services to polish or replace the screen?
And, thereafter, any product (preferably cheap so I can replace it occasionally as needed) which will protect the screen without noticeably reducing the touch sensitivity? (Since the Topaz touchscreen just isn't quite as good as some of its competitors in sensitivity to start with).
Thanks!
Jay
you have to replace the digitizer, do a search on "digitizer" in this forum. you can get them as low as 20$ on ebay. I just bought one, but I haven't got it yet.. with screen protector I don't know..
if you still have the htc warranty u should send it in

I checked with the authorized vendor from whom I purchased my device. They replied that the warranty doesn't cover screen scratches. Much as I'd like the warranty to cover this, I can't see how it should...
Given that warranties, by statute here in Spain, are 2 years, I'm not going to void it by opening the device and replacing the digitizer myself (my device is less than six months old, and something more important - and covered by a non-voided warranty - might happen in the next 18 months). So I'll check with official tech support and see what they charge for replacing the screen (in a way that doesn't void the warranty).
Oh well...
Jay
oh ok sorry for that, now i understand.
let me ask you a question. are there dust particles getting into your device? if so then you can ask them to replace the digitilizer for you.
for me dust was getting into the screen on the top left corner and i told them and they called me and told me that they were going to replace the digitilizer.
Nope, no dust, just my own scratches. Heh.
Yeah, I'd seen the discussions about dust getting in. Unfortunately, I don't have that problem to leverage as a way to get HTC to pay for my new digitizer screen :-}
Thanks anyway everyone, cheers.

This is what screen protectors are for. HTC phones comes with one in the box. All the phones I own, their screens look brand new. The HTC Screen protectors are actually pretty nice quality.
Same, look on Ebay for some good screen protectors...
Quik - HTC Touch Diamond2 Twin Screen Protector Pack - these are fantastic ! A class above the standard one- if anything better ssurface than the stanard screen.. and yes you're supposed to put them on at the beginning , but you might fine that they cover the scratches well enough
get them from Amazon

Broken screen .. (only the glass)

I woke up this morning i my screen glass was boken (i dont remember how 'cause i was too dunk ) ..
well, the thing is ... are those replacement screen on ebay like the original, i mean super amoled ???
is there a way to replace only the glass and not the whole screen? anyone know where to buy only the glass?
thanks a lot ...
The replacements are LCD. The reason you have to replace them is because you can't seperate the glass from the OLED. Maybe getting so drunk wasn't worth it?

Im sorry, your wrong. They aren't LCD replacements. They are SAMOLED screens. I just put my replacement in friday. The one i got from ebay was OEM and works and fits perfectly.
Also, getting drunk is ALWAYS worth it.
how much money do the replacements run for?
ebay links?

$55 - $100
So this screen replaces the glass front as well.
Not that i have damaged mine ( touch wood) but always good to know.
That's one reason why you shouldn't get drunk!

You're 100% sure they're AMOLED? Whatever the case I don't think breaking a phone is worth it to get super hammed. If you're so inclined to get hammered maybe you should leave your phone at home because having broken your screen just cost you 2-3 bottles of some Grey Goose...

Im 100% certain that the screen i got is SAMOLED. But i still need to find a home button
i have replaced the screen on my galaxy s, the screens advertised on ebay are infact super amoled screens, they are advertised as LCD is just a simple mistake (i remember picking one up around £30). The original screen is attached to the phone with a double side sticky tape! You'll just have to rip it out but when you get to the home button you have to carefully separate the ribbons for the touch sensitive buttons which are attached to the glass. Then its just a matter of sticking everything back in place and jobs a goodin'
There is a guide on youtube on disassembly which is simple, the rest you have to figure out yourself.
thanks for the reply's ...
but i still have one doubt ..
since the front glass covers the whole front of the phone, maybe it's not the same glass of the screen .. could be an aditional glass above the screen .. or not?
im telling this because my screen broke just 2 or 3 millimiters above the menu button and 1 o 2 mm bellow the screen ...
so, maybe i don't have to replace the whole screen system ....
do you know about a case replacement? maybe that could have the front glass ...
i'll post some pictures of my broken screen when i have the chance ...
thanks ...

You will have to replace the whole screen/SAMOLED assembly as they are expoxied together. The SAMOLED is so thin that removing it will ultimately damage it.
It is indeed a very stupid design from Samsung with the screen going all the way down around the home button. It has made the glass very vulnerable there and practically all screen cracks start there.
Does anyone have any idea on where i can get a home button. I dont need the ribbon cable and sensors just the physical peice of plastic that is the button itself. I am realy desprate.

broken screen glass

so.. my screen glass has been broked.
I bought the phone through the UK (im from Israel) and not through a carrier.
so im screwed.. you think a private store could fix my glass? i mean things are pretty bad.. the screen is STILL showing everything..
but the glass is broken badly.. even the capcitive button is broken and there is a crack that shows the led light of the front buttons...
do you think its fixable? I'm aware it will cost alot and I dont care that it wil..
the question is, is it fixable?
and if its.. wont they put a regular glass instead of gorilla glass? i will loss glass toughness huh..?

Does the screen still responsive to touch in spite of the damage? If yes, probably you just need to fix a new glass. On eBay for an iphone it costs around £15-30 to fix it (service included). If it's not responsive to touch then you have to change another piece (digitizer) which is more expensive, around £75-150 for SGS2 (without the service).
Check on eBay for "i9100 screen lcd digitizer" or hit the link
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_trkp...d+digitizer&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=2&_sc=1
Of course, as you'll have to pay the service in Israel, you should know the average price for this in your region better than me.
It can definitely be repaired, so don't worry too much.
Good luck!
PS.: Don not worry too much about the gorilla glass either, as your gorilla glass wasn't so tough, was it? Anyway, it is possible that the replacement is a gorilla as well, who knows...

It's really easy to replace the screen yourself. You have to change the whole glass and screen as they are bonded together.
I've got a used screen for sale, look at my sig below

Tough, as in harder to crack/break. Not scratch proof ^^

I could be wrong but isnt the glass on the SAMOLED consturction a part of a whole thing? I mean you can have the glass just replaced you need to get the entire screen, I see a lot of people posting spare screens on the other thread, quality is of question though if its a real SAMOLED Plus or just a Class A replacement.
yea the touch is working just fine..
just worried about the fact that there are cracks where i can see the light of the buttons coming out....
I hope it can be fixed... hopefully with gorilla glass...
any 1 got anymore tips?
Please let us know what route you take and the outcome. You know, just in case.

I can't read Hebrew but I'm guessing since they sell phones in Israel they probably have an authorized repair center there. Take it to them and at least your warranty will remain intact.

Hi, I am rfrom the UK, and I bought my galaxy s2 from a selleron amazon, so does it come with warranty because it is a UK modal and I'm in the UK, so say if my screen broke, would I be able to contact Samsung and ask them to repair it, obviously for a cost.
any 1 else? maybe some 1 who had it?

you probably sat down, or ran. causing your pants to squeeze the key and the phone against your leg. This exerts more force than you realize. I have the Black tie protection plan on my CAPTIVATE from best buy, I Cracked the screen in half against some stairs because of poor gps reception. one hand on the top one on the bottom of the phone, battery cover off, and PUSH!!!!!, however before it was in two, i took my house keys and tried to scratch the glass without any luck untill about 30lbs of force then light scratches started to appear. i have not put keys in my pocket with my cell phone since my Samsung B7610 Pro got F'ed badly even with a screen protector. keys+phone+pocket+sitting/running=scratches
