Issue in Contacts, No screenshot shortcut, No in built call recording... - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hi,
We dont have select contacts from Phone or SIM(option to display contacts from SIM or Phone). We dont have slow motion in Camera. Battery is draining even when iam not using it.
There is no screenshot shortcut and it goes the old way( Vol down button + Power button). Front Camera looks cheap, lot of improvements are needed in it. Moreover, we dont have inbuilt call recording option while making phone calls.
One more thing I noticed is We dont have direct video call facility.
Please fix these in OTA update.
Thanks,
V.

Yeah, it is almost pure, basic things are missing, right what I mentioned above.
Even if it is pure, how can they miss Call recording option?

Dude this is stock android 8.1 which mean no advance feature. Only if google will provide you this feature in android P or Q then only you will get built in call recording(This is illegal in many country that's why Android doesn't support built in ), Even Google pixel and android One, nokia phones does not support it due to this. Just download call recording app from play store.
Yes Video call from built in caller app does support by phone. Ypu have to be in 4G network for that (Even Miui (Mi phones) does not support video calling through dialer) or use Google Duo.
Slow motion camera (not that powerful camera ISP,you have to need SD845 for good true slow mo camera mode)So forget about it. You can use tgird party app for fake slow mo camera video. Or buy samsung Galaxy s9.
Screenshot functionality is provided by Google Stock android which mean either wait for Android P update or use Google assistant for screenshot(Actually this is the way Google want you to take screenshot, same with Google Pixel and android One phone.Or use popular custom rom or Magisk (for that you need unlock bootloader and root).
Battery draining is fixel by latest OTA (April patch update), So no problem experienced here (or maybe some thord party app is causing that (Specifically facebook,Instagram ,snapchat etc).

Direct Video calling is working sometime from jio to jio sim. But while video call front camera is too bad.

Front camera is really very cheap, I have used Le 2. It was also 8mp but it was far better than Asus Zenfone Mac pro.

Samsung Galaxy S i9000 - Front Facing Camera?

Front facing camera or not?
I found few sources where they say there is front facing camera on Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for video chat.
Can some one confirm this?
Yes there is one and there are even hands-on videos showing it being used (I forgot where )
eh I watch all videos of Samsung Galaxy S and didn't find such video.
It comes with front facing camera and have a button in the call screen to do video call but personally, i dont use that feature since non of my friends / family use that so i cant tell you if it works properly.
But you can try to use front face video camera with fring (over skype service). To video conf with someone who have skype.
I don't want to use that for 3g video call that is very bad but over internet with fring can be nice.

the new version supports front cams, it might be model specific do you have a link which says otherwise?
just installed and its probably the worst software i've tried so i uninstall.
1) cannot load any contacts from skype
2) load itself even i specifically uncheck to load at startup
3) after i exit, it still stays in memory
i looked at the comments on market and they are mostly negative

I tried the Video Call Test on fring and it works.. I don't know if it'll work on an actual Fring to Fring video call..
Fring still have problems with my Galaxy S, it mutes my phone whenever I make a call.. & it does not transmit my voice..
has anyone made a successful Fring Call???

You got it to make a Video call using the front camera ? Surprised as Fring say they are still working on it and I can't do one with my phone.

Forgiven
lol back camera??? is that even possible? I mean back camera would be much better quality for video streaming.
It uses the back camera at present, which would be good for streaming as you suggested. Ideally a mechanism to switch between both would be ideal !
Yes!! That would be great
I have another question. If you install fring and you are online.
1.) Do you have option to check 'start this application when Galaxy S start' ?
2.) Can this application be in background so if you got call over skype phone will ring? I mean can this phone will be used primary like SKYPE phone?
how does the inbuilt video calling work, ie the one in the contacts menu. What types of phones can it call?? is it some open protocol?
Fring improves audio, adds support for Samsung Galaxy S
http://androinica.com/2010/07/21/fring-improves-audio-adds-support-for-samsung-galaxy-s/
Just upgraded and did my test call with the forward facing camera baby! All good.
Now I'm sure the next thing people will be asking for is being able to switch between the two.

[Q] how to make video call in wildfire?

how to make video call in wildfire?
i cant find the option...
Wildfire can't make video call..
Because it dun have front camera..
hey i have seen on the internet that the phones without front facing cam can make video call and m sure that there is software which can do this on the phones without front facing camera
Skype can apparently do this but I haven't been able to find how to use the back camera for video calling
hey bro...i agree that there r some software bt for which os...
there is no such successful app for android and especially for wildfire...if ur so crazy for having video chat buy a new HTC....
u cn try skype nd have it by using net....bt by default for sim it is impossible
As far as I know, you need Android 2.3 to use Skype to make backward-facing camera video calls. It doesn't work for 2.2.1.
do you mean internet video calls?...you can install the yahoo! messenger and yahoo! messenger plug-in for the video chat feature using the back camera, but i can tell you that it lags like sh.t....i've tried it when i was on cm7 ,but like i said it lags..if you still wanna give it a try, search for them on the market....and good luck

[News] Skype now has video...but not SGS? (link to something may work pg2)

I'm updating Skype now on the market. Says has video now. But says only for selected handsets and SGS is not one of them.
ye, sucks typically skype
This is baffling. If the Nexus S can support it without a front-facing camera, why not the SGS?!
Oh crapas. Its bad enough that they decided not to support one of (if not the most) popular android phone running 2.3 now. What's worse is...
a. DOES NOT SAVE PASSWORD. UGH.
b. I personally think the UI is worse. At least the "Sign-Out" is on the menu bar instead of buried in the "status" menu. But because it does not save password, this really sucks. Would it kill them to put a big red "Turn Off" button somewhere?
c. Seemed less stable, but that might be my phone.
d. I thought that the new "SMS" functionality would mean that Skype is now an SMS client, which would combine messaging functions into one program. Add a dialler into it, and it could be kick-ass. But this is NOT SMS. This is a text message sent over Skype's network to an SMS gateway to a phone. It costs much more than my SMSs through my carrier, which are true SMS.
I only use Skype on my phone when I'm travelling and need to call international. If this program was better, I would not mind leaving it on all the time. Now, google talk is starting to look better vis-a-vis Skype. If only I could call phones from Google Talk, like I can on my computer...

Skype sucks anyways. Do you really think it will become better with MS?
What we really need is open standard video conferencing protocols.

Its one of those things in which the network is the value. Skype is used for international business and communication. It works better than Google Talk (which also is not open I believe) for talk between China and USA. It works for making cheap international computer to phone calls.
But yes...the company does suck. They can't provide chat customer service...and they're a communications company. Also interface is only so-so.
I NEED Skype on my phone...if no Android version I would get an iPhone. Only other way to call USA from China (without paying huge rates) is to activate VPN and use Google Talk. And that option only started 2 months ago. And I can only call a computer, not a phone with Google.
Fring and Nimbus, IMO, are no better than Skype and don't have desktop clients.

I hate it when people suggest Fring as a replacement for Skype. Give me a software to video chat between Android and PC seamlessly and then I'll call it a replacement for Skype.

it's ironic, cause fring used to be like that, it did support video between mobile (syambian i guess for instance) and pc skype seamlessly. but because of skype they had to remove this option.

Not working for me here.... I'm just trying with Skype Test Call user, which video is not showing up as an option... Perhaps it would work with a real contact? not sure.
Ok, I guess i should read more closely... I uninstalled first, then reinstalled your patched version. I get a video call option now, but the video preview on my side is really messed up.... running Darky's 10.1 (JVH base)
I see 4 pictures of my self from the front facing camera, all on the horizontal view screen... each picture is distorted in shape and has white lines running horizontally through it..

How exactly is it better for talk between China and USA? It's just like any video call software out there. Windows live messenger/yahoo/google/apple/logitech all work, to name a few.
And for phone calls, it's about the most expensive VoIP solution out there.
I use voip.ms, which is cheaper and works with open protocols. With my ATA I can call with a real phone, with my computer turned off. Works on android too.

- voice comunication
- voice comunicatiiin software
- voice call
- voice call software
-microphone
The thing is that every source sims to had effect on interlocutors voice loudness and clarity. Please try all and report

Before I reverted back to Oreo, I tried this app. Along with the current state of ACR, the SKVALEX app also suffers from the exact same problem. It's not directly recording the other end, only using the phone's speaker to listen. So the voice on the other end is at a very low volume. Even when boosting the decibels in the app settings, it's not as clear and loud as when either apps were working whilst on Oreo. This also means that phone numbers still can't be recorded by either app. As stated by pop up messages inside both apps.
This may be fine for some but I don't think Pie and One UI is worth losing FIRM call recording capabilities. Along with other features we've come to rely on on Oreo.
Just my two cents on it.

I'm on unlocked stock and wouldn't want to do anything to risk Samsung Pay functionality, so still stick with Oreo?
how to revert back to oreo? Will I lose all my current data?? thanks for your guidance
Call recording in Android 9 (Samsung Galaxy S8)
No call recording app can record bothway voice calls on Android 9 unless the phone maker dialer provides inbuilt recording feature for a particular region. I have tried many on my Galaxy S8 but found no luck. Call recording is an important feature which is essential for millions. Google should open the relevant API so that the app makers can bring back call recording. BTW, Cube ACR couldn't do bothway call recording on my S8. The best call recorder was NLL's ACR for Android 8. It doesn't work for Android 9 though NLL published an unchained version. This unchained version also can't record bothway calls.

I have downgraded my galaxy s8 to Oreo from Pie to enable call recording. Now ACR (by nll) works fine like before. I am not going to upgrade to Pie again if google or Samsung doesn't open call recording API. Call recording is necessary for me like millions.

SKVALEX worked on my note 9 up to the last Android v8.1.0 Oreo release, once it hit Android v9.0 pie it stopped, all call recorders did. Android removed call recording capability with pie. Sux, I hope someone finds a workaround for it because it was really handy, didn't need to write crap down when getting info or directions from someone.
How do I revert my Samsung Note 8 back to Oreo to get back recording feature?

Question Enable Auto Phone Call Recording

Hello to everyone,
I hope someone could help me, i need to record any phone call that i make/receive, the phone should record the call without messages to the caller about the phone call is recorded.
Did someone can tell me how can i do this? i have seen that one option is to root the device but if someone have other suggestion is better for me than root the device.
I have also tried this app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...cord-phone-calls-from-the-phone-line.1441643/ but use the microphone so sometimes there are very noise.

Yes. I am in the same situation. The only things I can think of are, 1. A call recorder app. or, 2. Using a different dialer, say from a Oneplus phone. But I'm still looking into it. I have been using a call recorder app that seems to work somewhat okay but not that great.
I Hope Simeone could help US..
I have also seen that changing the phone app Is not the solution because some apps uses CSC

Not really. I do have two apps installed that are recording calls pretty good ! One of them I installed from Google play called Call recorder. And the other one is one that I came across in one of the posts for the Nothing phone. I have both running at the same time and both are recording calls pretty good. However, I would rather have the inbuilt option.
I'm from Italy and have Nothing Phone for a couple of weeks now so I may be missing something.
I've tried ACR, a well thought app for call recording, but unfortunately it doesn't record bluetooth calls (earphone or car's) so as a couple of other apps. I guess it's a problem that every third party app is having, given Google policy.
So, I'm using the Google phone app call recording utility (upper right corder three dots > settings > call recording). This option has popped out the first time I put in the sim card. I suppose everyone can access this option but with Google you never know...
This makes available a button on the phone screen, a switch between call recording and not recording. Actually, it's only manageable when the call is started and it's available switching in the second screen of the app.
Overall it works pretty well, even on Bluetooth calls. The calls are accessible via the call log history and can de saved. The only drawdown is that you have to put a meaningful name to the file when saving it.
What drives me CRAZY is that it doesn't have the option to ALWAYS record the calls. Apparently, it's an available option (Google has a help page dedicated: https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/9803950?hl=en) but not for the Italian version. Or at least for my version
Does anyone know if and how I can make it a permanent choice? I don't want to manually switch it every time...
Any help is very appreciated

You could use MacroCroid. It can press the button for you and fill in the name for you too. You need a fair amount of time to set it up but it would work good.

Thanks for the tip! I thought the same and tried something similar yesterday (Tasker and another app, forgot the name) but gave up for the amount of time needed!
Going to try MacroCroid anyway, hopefully it's a little bit less complicate
Thanks again

You might like to share the macro you build here and change the title to [Solved] enable auto phone call recording
I love to help, have fun!
