No Android P beta for Oneplus 5t, the existing flagship of OnePlus - OnePlus 5T Guides, News, & Discussion

For the first time Google, Android P's latest beta will be available on non pixel / Nexus devices including OnePlus 6, Essential PH-1, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Sony Xperia XZ2, Nokia 7 Plus, Oppo R15 Pro, and Vivo X21.
I immediately jumped to get my 5T signed up, only to face disappointment.
Android P beta for OnePlus 5t was skipped and the same was available only for yet to launch OnePlus 6.
Lately I have got a feeling that OnePlus has shifted their interest from consumer focused company to buiness oriented company who are more concerned about thier new flagship and less concerned about thier previous users.
The unofficial treble support was provided to our device by the hardworking developers of OnePlus community but OnePlus did not make any efforts to provide the same.
The OnePlus community should send a strong message to the company that they should not make the old coustmers feel left out.
We should pass following message to OnePlus:-
a) Providing official treble support to 5 and 5t.
b) Providing the lastest Android version along with their new flagship phones.( Which will be possible if support for project treble is available).
c) Providing all the exlusive upcoming features to previous generation phones (5 & 5t) till the time hardware permits.

A) That is not going to happen. But Mokee ported Treble so hopefully an P Beta port will come to 5T at some point.
C) This is OnePlus we're talking about, I doubt they will.
I really don't think they care about the community anymore.

I thought OnePlus had quietly prepared the 5T for Treble by creating an empty Vendor partition in the background? It's not formatted yet, and OOS doesn't see it, but it's there?
I'm unhappy too, that they didn't use the 5T for their P beta, but if they provided the official base for Treble, then maybe we'll still see something from them or at least it will be easier for the XDA Devs...

A) If we push.. all of us.. we might stand a chance.
C) Exactly

As I commented in the news.
Quote Google: "beta available TODAY from those OEMs".
The "today" tricked me into thinking that this would be my beloved 5t but Oneplus let Google speak about an even unannounced device just to get in that damn presentation.
In other words: Oneplus doesn't even care about their existing flagship the moment they know the rough release date for their next one. This is beyond everything I have ever seen in the smartphone business. At the same time advertising heavily the OP5t on Amazon to get one of the last ones.
Oneplus was never a community focused company they just said it so often that the people thought it would be so.
HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

As far as I can see this whole Situation; we will get a taste of Android P anyway. Either officially or non official.
Official: because there in fact is an unused Partition (unformatted)
Unofficial: because hobby dev peeps around the globe were able to make the oneplus 5t Support treble.. therefore custom Rom creators should be able to create Android P roms for it.

Are y'all really surprised that we wouldn't get a P beta? Lol

Yes I'm in. Let's make a petition on change.org ?

Many people said of the oneplus 5t, it's the best against essencial phone... Better software, updates, design... But Essencial phone 1 have the beta xD
Now who is the best ??
I have a 5t

Android P require treble ?

I know this won't go down well, but did none of you do your homework on OnePlus before buying the 5t? OnePlus launch a new, replacement device every six months and concentrate on marketing and selling that; Every six months our new (to us) device gets moved to the back burner.
This is not a new strategy, and should not come as a surprise! Google how OnePlus 2 owners felt! I owned a 3t that was virtually obsolete four months later!
And every time this happens - every six months when a new device is launched - there is a thread on XDA to petition OnePlus about the unfairness of it all!
If this news is a surprise to anyone you should've been more aware of how the company operates.
Rant over.

Really dont't care for stock android p beta.
Much prefer for oxygen beta program with android P
Stock android is very poor and lack customization and feature option that oxygen offer.
If i want stock android experiance better solution is AOSP custom rom with plenty of feature and customization insteed of totaly naked stock android by Google IMO.

So we get OOS beta based on P later. (OP6 get first.)

I'm guessing we're still getting Treble support. There already is a /vendor partition created in one of the Beta updates iirc and they said: "Something exciting for you OnePlus 5/5T owners later this summer". So i'm guessing they're referring to Treble support.

Yh one does not always remember the exact words. P requires Treble we do not have Treble hence why we don't get it yet. If you really want it install MoKee ROM which enables Treble and wait for an Android P GSI.

Everyone should stop acting like treble is a hardware based thing.
The only reasons we did not get the beta is that Oneplus 1. is too lazy to deliver 2. wants to boost OP6 sales.
Treble is something completely software based and can be added at any given time (even without bricking the device).
I think the real reason we are complaining is (like the title says) that Oneplus is announcing stuff for a device that isn't even on sale yet.
It's like Google would have said "...and of course Pixel 3 is getting the beta from day one. We are already testing it internally and it is working great. In the meantime we are all very happy that you bought Pixel 2".

Not surprising from OnePlus. Unfortunately, they only seem to be concerned with what's the best way to make more money even if it involves abandoning their current users. This move, like all the moves they make, is about money. Doesn't matter if they ignore their current flagship device or users. Sad but true.

Android O

So the previews are out for official devices..
And I hate to be that guy, but... We have the same SoC as the Pixel. Can it be ported without the source code?
If I'm being a derp, feel free to close/delete the thread.
I wanna know too.
Probably it can't! Having the same soc doesn't mean nothing, many devices had nexus 6p soc (SD 810) but none of them had the previews ported to them, there is no sources to build it.
And believe me, there's nothing interesting on the O preview for now, is far away from being stable.
No.
Even if it were possible, it would be reference only (not stable) considering its base is a developer preview (not even beta) you'd be best watching a YouTube video....
https://youtu.be/soeiJsnSzu0
But i highly doubt it is achievable and most certainly not worth any time or effort if it is.....
Just wait and buy the new Pixel (or whatever it may be called) then you'll have O most probably.....
Or buy a pixel & flash the available image......But even then i wouldn't use it as a daily....
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
i see it this way: same stuff ,different name
I believe the developer builds are available to OEMs. Oneplus could make those beta builds but I wouldn't hold my breath. You'll just have to wait 3 years like the rest of us.

No,it's not possible.
OnePlus was pretty quick to put nougat and 7.1 on the 3T. Since they seem to have dropped the older phones, mostly the ones that dont support dash charge, they could have more manpower to put O on the 3T and the upcoming OnePlus 4/5. I'm optimistic about them updating although nougat hardly added anything i really care about. It appears O doesn't add much either. So even if they didn't do it in a swift manner, who cares.

The OP2 doesn't even have Nougat so I wouldn't be surprised if the OP3/T never gets O. It'll probably be on the OP5 in January 2018 at the earliest.

Any news on when we getting Oreo?

What the tittle says
Yes there is, we'll get it in 2 months period.
Any ideas why so long? Sony already got it and they are skinned as well as others are close behind like Samsung with their beta tests and htc why is this one taking so long to push since it is almost pure?

Sony have a much bigger dev team, plus sony has a large community of devs and testers that work for free since they release all their code to open source.
But is this not like the purest of Android ... On paper it should be just plug test and play for the A1?
In principle, yes. But I going by the apparent fact that Google isn't in charge of software but xiaomi is, my guess is that is the reason why there is no oreo yet...
I presume. I've heard good things for this company let's see how this phone will hold up to what people say
I think that the Andorid One topic is quite new for them (too) and they just have to collect their experience first so I'm pretty sure for the following updates they will get more and more routine so this is just the beginning....
With Android One, doesn't Google control the OS updates like in Pixel. We get security fixes along with Pixel
Android one suppose to be the first device after pixel and nexus to get Oreo.
Devices are getting beta version or something of Oreo.
And we are just waiting ,
Don't want to rush anything but atleast a official comment on the Oreo for android one would be grate...
They says by the end of this year, its mean December, calm down
I have a friend working in Mi China and he says their Target is indeed for December 2017. So let's just all chill out till then.
From what I guess Google isn't really controlling the updates of mi a1. STOCK android doesn't support capacitive nav bars and a IR sensor too. Moreover there are dual cameras on this phone. So mi has to so tweaks to accommodate all this. That's why it must be taking some time.

There is nothing like this. Android one is a program which ensures every updates not faster updates. So keep calm. They will release it by 31st Dec.
The update chain is not that what u r thinking right now.
Google - Processor manufacturers - OEMs - Beta testers - OEM - Public Release.
As far as what I've seen and heard on mi community discussions some guy had posted a pic of his discussion with one of the representatives from Xiaomi. It said that they werent sure on when they are going to release the update as they haven't finalized the date yet. They said that it could be in late january 2018

Oneplus is only focusing on their newer flagship oneplus 6. They don't care about their current flagship 5t and the community. Many other OEM's like Essential, Nokia, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo providing the android P beta for their current flagship devices.
Google made everyone believe that android P beta was available from listed OEM's at Google I/O 2018 but Oneplus didn't provide the beta. Instead, they said the beta would be available at time of Oneplus 6 launch which is wrong because Google announced that the beta was available from those manufacturers that very day. Oneplus is becoming more bussines oriented and don't care about the existing customers.
I would like Oneplus to launch the android P beta for the oneplus 5t.
This is a preview of a Developer Beta. You shouldn't expect it to come out for all devices in the marketplace. There are certain restrictions and requirements Google has set in Android P that the OnePlus 5T does not meet (vendor partition). All of the devices on their official list do meet this requirement.
I don't think OnePlus is in the wrong here at all.

Well i agree with you no beta without treble, but oneplus is only technically not at fault, they should have given a vendor partition, all this was just to make sure op6 gets the newbies and 5t has the same cycle as 5, shipping 5t with 7.1.2 hence no vendor partition

Well, you can ship phones with Oreo and no vendor partition. It's just not recommended. But to tell them they should be offering the preview to Android P is a little absurd. Especially since they already have their own Beta program going on with four of their phones.

There is already a partition that can be used as a vendor partition (That's how we have unofficial support). I assume that if there is already unofficial Treble support without re-partitioning OP should have no problem doing that as well. They most likely want us to buy the OP6 :\

This involves a potentially dangerous partition modification that no manufacturer would voluntarily offer to their users. I don't blame them, either.

I would have bought a pixel phone, but it's only available in like 6 countries (which is pure stupidity from Google)
Edit: it costs quite a bit too
Although it's tempting, I would never run beta on a daily driver.
I doubt OP will release a DP for P. But isn't it likely, with unofficial treble support, a Dev will build a DP treble rom? It's open source, right? So isn't that a possibility?
Asking for a dev preview is kinda shortsighted. Personally I would prefer for Oneplus to release a stable OOS based on Android P in less than a month or two after the stable source code has been released by Google.

It is sure that tissot will get Android P by end of 2k18. I am curious whether it will be lucky enough to get Q update being an Android one phone(software support is for three OS versions).

First of all, Android Q will NEVER BUT EVER be released in May 2019. At the very best may be announced and some selected devices be granted with a developer preview (obviously Pixel devices). The final release to the public will yes, probably be in October 2019, but once again firstly for Pixels and then other high range phones. There is no way that Xiaomi will release Q on the fly right on October, and much less for our A1, when they have the A2 and (probably) an A3 by that date.

Since we have treble support(Unofficially)we can get developer preview once its released to pixel devices!
I flashed Custom ROM (Android Pie, LR) and using it as daily driver. Android P for Mi A1 officially is still a long way to go.

Where is the evidence of this?
Do you have any?
Why do you ask such things, if your statements aren't even well documented?
Have you seen any info from Xiaomi team about rethinking their decision about keeping MiA1 "un-trebled", switching their ideas just to take the funny P, carrying with all the process of repartitioning each device's drives, all inside of an update pack, with free support? → no matter which risks people would suffer if something just goes wrong with such update.
Xiaomi won't be riding such horse, when it is already running away.
In resume...
Mi A1 with Q, thanks to unofficial Treble process? Possible.
Mi A1 with P, thanks to official Xiaomi update? Keep dreaming.

Let me explain it another way :
When someone (in this case Xiaomi) is under a contract (think of the Android One Program as a contract), they (Xiaomi)
are by definition forced to obey some rules (2 years of major Software updates, and 3 years of security updates) set by the other party of the contract,
which in this case is Google. When you buy a device branded as an Android one device, then you are guaranteed those things, and that is why you got
the Android one device in the first place. For those reasons the Xiaomi Mi 5X IS NOT GUARANTEED ANY OF THE ABOVE since it is not an Android one device, despite being literally
the same device hardware-wise, it could never get Android P officially, and Xiaomi could stop providing security updates at any point.
EDIT: ALSO THIS ONE
Stay fresh over time
Mi A1 ships with Android Nougat, and will receive 2 years minimum of OS upgrades. And since Android One users are among the first to get new OS upgrades when they’re released, you’ll have access to the latest features and innovations even sooner.

are by definition forced to obey some rules (2 years of major Software updates, and 3 years of security updates) set by the other party of the contract,
which in this case is Google.

I am not to keep having this pointless since you can't understand facts and things that are official, and also provided by Xiaomi themselves in the official website for the phone. Time will show you, what I keep explaining, and you keep not getting.

Prove what you said in bold or die. Give an evidence about this *truth* to make this fairy tale go real.
I'm dying to see how Xiaomi (by you, forced by Google) will support all customers after they make Mi A1 a Treble device with updates (probably, deleting all internal/user data), no mention about crashes, damaged device's that will appear while that happens, just to get P...
...all of this for a 1 year old device... Yes... Time passed away...
...however, there are always newbies, coming here to flash nice stories...

Treble is not needed for android P, so Xiaomi don't have to worry about treblizing Mi A1

Oxygen OS updates

When I was considering buying a Oneplus 1+8 pro I was being told by YT influencers and media that if you like clean and good OS with frequent updates and longterm support that Oneplus is the way to go.
It has now been over 4 months since last update and AFAIK nothing is happening on that matter.
We have OB2 which is nowhere near being ready for daily driver. Even when it is released as stable I bet it will be even worse as what the current 10 is.
We have updates coming out for the 7 and Nord series but nothing for the 8.
If somebody wants to claim that there is nothing to update I will call them idiots. This OS is nowhere near to the level of the OSs I had on my previous Samsung and Apple phones. There are all sorts of issues which are not being addresed by Oneplus.
Am I the only one having a problem with that fact?
Sent from my IN2023 using Tapatalk
There are monthly updates, we have to wait for android 11 like everyone else.

1st - OB2 is like 3 weeks old, not 4 months. Hope you don't expect Stable A11 days after Pixels.
2nd - if you believe YT influencers, then I wish you good luck.
3rd - security updates are spot on.
4th - I use OB2 since the release day and have no complains. Eventually high battery use of Google Play Store app. Nothing crazy.
]1st - I was referring to stable A10. Latest update was released Aug 15, 2020. So not 4 months but 2. Still long time ago.
2nd -I cannot establish my own opinion since I have no chance to see these phones in person before purchase. Also this is nowadays normal and best way to buy stuff.
3rd - No they are not. The latest stable version is on August security patch. We are now in the middle of October. Even Samsung is pushing that as we speak.
4th - I use my phone for work so no I will not run beta SW on it.
Samsung are better with security updates, but oneplus will get android 11 first
No complaints with 8 Pro updates this year...

First off. Don't listen to YouTubers, and influencers, I think I would poke someone in the eye of they told me that's what they did for a job..
OnePlus absolutely smashes the other OEM's in regards to updates, Huawei, old HTC, Sammy, LG, Sony, sorry but none of them come close .
Pixel? Sure that's the source, but the shortcomings Vs pixel on the OnePlus, it makes up for with a bigger battery and IMHO a better Dev community and a course matched beta program.
You can't go wrong with OnePlus tbh.

Based on this report your claims have no foundations to stand on. Oneplus released 12 updates since the phone launched but most of them were minor updates and fixed nothing. Only one major update. I would not classify that in the "smashing other OEMs" category.

12 updates in 6 months is pretty good stats. Small or not. I have had all other brands and came back to OnePlus (I had the 6T as well). Even stock, it is a great OS. But, everyone has their own opinion.

No foundations? Perhaps the fact that OnePlus actually release stable OS' in a timely manner with very little need to change anything, OOS is an extremely stable and fast skin for Android..very light too.
Security update comes out OnePlus gets it... new OS in development, we get it early.....to what OEM are you referring?
Huawei does not offer this speed nor does it offer a beta program like this, Samsung didn't either if memory serves, Sony was pitiful and splintered (as was Huawei (due to device variants /regions) LG (do people still buy these types of phones? Motorola (budget phone not in the same league)
I've had a lot of phones so I have some experience here, this is a public forum, you can take my advice or you can move on, what I won't do is try to convince you against something you appear to have an agenda towards, personally I can say without prejudice or bias that the OnePlus 8 pro is the best phone on the market right now, very few people would argue that point.
Updates are on point, end of story.
A good OEM won't release huge updates because they have nothing to fix, meaning it was done right the first time, a bad OEM will do the opposite, like Samsung releasing a £1500 phone with a camera that won't focus.
Oh wow just saw your end of post, you compared an android device to apple.
Oh dear.
Tell me can you Bluetooth files yet? Is apple still crippling it's OS due to an "update" ?
Don't compare any android device to apple you'll get very little sympathy here in that regard.
Samsung? Really? Exynos processor in the non US variants? And you're supporting them? Anyone who likes android or has an ounce of respect for themselves would boycott them and sign the petition to get Snapdragon in all their phones..
I wouldn't swap my OnePlus if you offered me both the iPhone XS and the ultra.
Lastly I and the absolute vast majority of people have not and do not have any issue with our OnePlus phone.
Fastest phone out not.
Battery life? I get 10 hours SOT consistently, even when gaming.
What issues are you referring to? If it's green tint (see above)
