Nexus 6p - 3 years of photos please help - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I did an OTA update on my phone recently and I am getting this message that states "Android Recovery google/angler/angler 8.0.0/OPR6.170623.019/4299446 user/release_keys Use volume up/down and power. Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message, you may need to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data stored on this device.
Try again Factory data reset."
My phone is 100% stock. Never modified in any way.
Things I have tried. 1 ) Clearing the Cache 2 ) Heating up the back of the phone to get it to go into LIMP mode 3 ) Hitting try again multiple times
Problems 1 ) I never unlocked the Bootloader 2 ) I do not have USB debugging enabled 3 ) I do not have any of photos synced with Google Photos 4 ) After hitting Try again a few times my phone was stuck in a bootloop but that fixed itself and now it is at this exact same screen
All I really want is my Photos, I am fine if the device does not work afterwards. Is there potentially a service that I can pay them to retrieve my data of this phone? Looking for any advice or help. Thanks for your help.

How long have you had google photos on your phone? I am pretty sure it has been saving them. Check google photos on the web. Just see if any photos have been saved.

I have had google photos on it since the beginning. However, when I log into google photos there's only 10 photos there from various times. Not even close to all the photos I had on the phone.

That's strange. Not sure what to do about the phone. Have you tried reflashing the firmware with out wiping the phone?

I can't flash anything since I never enabled USB debugging mode. Is there a way to flash without enabling USB debugging? or is there a way to enable USB debugging without turning the phone on?

Maybe adb sideload ota will work. You will need to be in recovery. Otherwise you may be SOL with those pics since you can't boot it up without wiping.
Do you have another Android phone? Have you tried logging in the new phone with nexus 6p backups? When you first setup your phone, it will ask you if you want to load a backup from a previous phone.

I will try the adb sideload ota when I get home from work today and let you know if it works. The really stupid thing is I've never made a backup of this phone. Since it came with a USB-C to USB-C cable and my PC did not have any USB-C ports.

HELP My phone has gone insane

EDIT-- Well I went ahead and did a complete factory reset and lost everything
Hey everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini without a contract and got an EE simcard and a 16gb Kingston SD card.
I was downloading music onto my SD card with Spotify when suddenly the phone crashed. When I turned it on, both the home screen launcher thing and messages stopped working completely. I tried clearing memory and cache but nothing helped. I got around this by installing Nova Launcher and using WhatsApp instead of the standard Messages app.
The problem is that last night I went onto Ultra Power Saving Mode, but the launcher doesn't seem to work and now I'm stuck! Can't get out of UPSM and the only thing I can access is basic settings through the notifications window, but there's no option to get out of UPSM.
Here's some of the things I've tried:
- Removing the SD Card.
- Plugging the phone into the computer through Kies, it just says "Connecting" but nothing happens.
- Using Google to find other similar issues
- Going into a phone shop
Help! I really need my phone!
Im not sure about this. Maybe download the firmware for your phone and flash it via odin.

Will I lose all my data? I remember 'backing up' through settings a few days ago... Does that save everything?
Usually flashing ur own firmware wont lose ur data but since you cant connect to kies or backup, i think its worth a try.

Yep,
DL the firmware you need here

(type g901f in search module)
and flash it by odin.
You'll keep all your data safe, don't worry.
Good luck

Encryption failed. Is there any way to save my data?

Hello everyone,
yesterday I wanted to try out encrypting my Note 4 (N910F). The process took over 10 hours without anything happening. I then decided the encryption failed and restartet the phone. It then asked my to reset it to factory settings, which I didn't do (yet). Unfortunatly I didn't make a backup before trying to encrypt it, and I would really like to keep the data, especially pictures, some messages, settings etc. Now is there any way I can still get the data? Or even the slightest possibility? The phone is running Android 5.0.1, is rooted and USB Debugging is enabled. Sadly, Samsung Kies, Samsung Smart Switch and Windows Explorer can't access the device (Windows Explorer doesn'T even recognize it). Now is there any way to still get atleast some data? Via ADB or so?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Have a nice weekend,

There is no way, afaik. Sorry.
I reformatted and ran recovery utilities. I got a few hits, but I couldn't recover everything. I'm followed the tutorial found in the following link. I was able to extract the entire userdata image and am getting ready to perform file recovery on it. Good luck.

Backup dilemma

I have a problem transferring all of my data to my replacement 6P. My charging port burnt up and broke the data connection. My phone will still charge though even though I do not trust it. My problem is that I cannot find a way to conveniently restore all apps and data to my replacement phone. ADB is not an option since the data lines are fried and all of the ADB over WiFi options I know of require me to set it up with the cable first. I am not rooted. My bootloader is currently locked. Native Android backup only has like 9 apps backed up and won't restore anything else but those 9 apps and my contacts. I cannot get the native back up to sync anything besides those 9 apps (not sure why this is happening). I could download all of my apps manually and use my NAS to transfer individual files but that will take forever. I want to lose as little data as possible. I do have an ADB backup from right before I updated to Nougat on the official release day so I might just have to lose a month of data (which isn't horrible but not ideal). Does anyone have any other suggestions besides manually reinstalling everything or using my old ADB backup?

I realize this doesn't really help you now, but you have articulated the best argument for rooting, as Titanium Backup would fix your issue. Second, what about TWRP and a nandroid? You don't need root but you do need an unlocked bootloader. Your only good option would be to manually reset up your apps IMHO.

Lol. I know. This is the first device I haven't rooted and the only one that absolutely needs root. I was happy with stock on this so I never got around to it then when I did have time, I didn't want to restore everything after unlocking the bootloader. I'm the only one to blame for this. I just can't figure out why the native backup won't back anything up. If I could figure that out, I could easily solve this problem.
I can't unlock the bootloader without losing everything. Looks like I have a long day to look forward to tomorrow.

Google backup is OK for apps but your settings and data don't get backed up properly anyway. At this point just suck it up, unlock your new BL, custom recovery and root it, then set it up from scratch. After that you can have nandroid and TB app backups and be in good shape.

[Q] Lenovo K4 Note Vibe Softbricked - Need Help to debrick

Hello guys,
I need some help with my Lenovo K4 Note Vibe (3GB RAM version). The thing is it started popping up random "Unfortunately xxxx stopped working" a couple of weeks ago. That specific app would just crash and restart itself. It can be a system app or game or any random thing (GUI, Contacts, Messaging, Angry Bird and other games etc.). It would usually gets solved on by restarting the phone or stopping the app from setting or on it's own.
Now the problem I have is, I gave it a restart and now it just shows "Unfortunately Notification Center Has Stopped". I have two option "Okay" and "Try To Resolve" none of them does anything except the error goes away for a second or two and pops back up. I can not even see the usual "Enter you PIN" screen. Yes I was using Fingerprint so I had to enter the PIN every time I restart the phone. So now basically I'm stuck at startup screen without any options. The phone is alive I can tell, I can feel it vibrate when I call, hear messaging tones (whatsapp/text). If connect it with PC when turned on, I can see a Lenovo Folder option to browse but its empty since it requires the phone to be unlocked first with pin.
The mobile belongs to my sister and she is dentist by profession and have lots of important data including some research she did (photos) for journal she publishes in national magazines.
How do I get past this error ? I do not have root, I tried the recovery but it is a Chinese recovery and does not have an option to wipe catch partition. The phone was on latest version (Marshmallow) and there is nothing I can do to start it up. Tried booting in safe mode but still the same error.
There is an option to see basic details in Chinese recovery, it shows
Model No. A7010a48
Build Time : 2016 12 27 14:35:36 CST
Kernel Ver. 3.18.19+
Android Ver.: 6.0
along with various other details.
How do I save my data ? Can I recover it anyhow ?
1. Try wipe data and factory reset
if not solve
2. Use SP Flash tools to flash stock rom.
If you have unlocked bootloader, then you can try to flash/hotboot into twrp recovery as it shows all files and folders in pc while connected in recovery mode.
Even if the bootloader is locked, there is no harm in trying.

Bootloader is locked. And there was no custom recovery flashed, every recovery flashing method I searched required for data to be wiped and bootloader unlocked so I`m stuck on that front.

Like I mentioned in post, the data is important, I could throw away the hardware I just need data.
I`m looking for a method to wipe catch partition without getting my data erased or to extract data any other way. Please do let me know if anyone have any solution at all, this is really really important.
Enable usb debugging
Use adb pull command to get the data.
Edit: nevermind, saw you can't unlock the phone.
Pretty sure if you flash twrp it will wipe data data partition as soon as you reboot. So I wouldn't do that.
Other option is do a full nandroid backup using adb but the only way you are gonna get that working is if you flash twrp and like I mentioned it's probably not a good idea but I'm not certain.
Another option is mtktools/spflashtool and do a full firmware backup from that, reset the phone and then restore from the backup, but I have no experience in that but it should work in theory.
Do you see the error even when there is incoming call? If not try from InCallUi i.e. when you answer the phone, try to navigate from that such as opening contacts, if there is a chance pull down notification bar and enter into settings. If any of these happen, it will ask to enter your pin and then you can unlock your phone. Now connect your phone to your pc and backup the data you need
If the data you seek are images, google photos should already backup your images to your google photos cloud account. Check this by signing in from your pc.
If they are media from whatsapp, don't worry, it will be backedup daily to your google drive account and all your messages along with your media will be restored after you install whatsapp again.
If they are Docs, then probably they are in gmail account (PROBABLY) you can always search for required ones in gmail.
Any other files from these cannot be restored if they are inaccessiblefrom your phone.
Suggestion: Maintain a cloud account which you feel safe and backup to that account so that you have no need to worry about the important files. **** like these happen every now and then.
Edit : These are gonna work if you checked the online backup or sync in respective app.

Stuck on 'Phone is starting' after updating to Android 12

Hello!
I tried to update my phone (SM-G975U) via Odin from Android 9 to Android 12, got the firmware from SamFw.com. Everything went fine until the phone rebooted, after unlocking the phone gets stuck on 'phone is starting'. I CAN access the Set Up Menu, Uninstall apps, move some settings here and there, connect to Wifi/Bluetooth, receive calls, install apps using ADB. Also, theres a notification all the time that reads 'Phone restarted Unlock your phone to get app notifications', I'm assuming that the phone thinks it is not unlocked and that's why it doesn't fully boot up.
Some things that I've already tried:
Intalling another Launcher (Pixel Launcher)
Reinstalling the firmware (ver G975USQU6IVC7) / Trying with different CSC with no results
Wiping Cache in Recovery Mode
Deleting/Adding Fingerprints
Changing from Lock Pattern to NIP to Password
I don't really want to do the full wipe, I would like to keep my data or be able to export the photos (Device not Recognized by Smart Switch also)
Is there anything else I can do?, has anyone been through the same issue?

Hi !
@DannOsnaya have you found a solution to the phone problem other than restoring to factory settings?
I have the same problem at the moment, almost identical to what you experienced.
If anyone has some advice on how to fix this problem, please share your advice.

Nothing works. Now decided to show it to anyone. I guess the mobile shops have an option to erase everything. I don't understand how did it happen because it's usually with my toddler, he might have done something.

I followed a video and wiped out. Finally successful. I wasn't worried about data as Google has a backup.
I followed this method and finally it's factory reset.
