What happens if I...? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

So. Here we are.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have been released, and many of us are just now hopping on the S8/+ bandwagon. I, very recently, purchased a SM-G955U model variant of the S8+ (hence the second 5 :silly and, like many of you, wanted to root it as soon as I got my hands on it.
I was happily impressed when I hopped on XDA and saw that there were at least *some* relatively updated custom ROMs and root methods. I tried out several using Odin3 (PCR.. and SamPWND... cuz those were the only two relatively popular threads that I found in my 2 minute search) and PCR struck my eye. I downloaded all the necessary files, taking well over 30 minutes on my potatonet, made sure I had both Odin3 and PrinceComsy Odin3 (and Kies... I think that's still relevant), setup the BootLoader, AP, whatever all the other buttons do, and clicked start.
Waited for a few seconds and... a (Succeed 0 / Failed 1) message appeared, as soon as it started.
Looked at my phone, the realization that it wasn't in Download mode kicked in and I smacked myself in the face.
Rebooted into Download mode, reset PrinceComsy Odin, smashed all the buttons again, clicked start and..
(Succeed 0 / Failed 1).
Great.
This has repeated for 3 days now, on all computers, 10s of different USB cables, well over 20 different USB ports (hubs not included).
So, I decided at a different approach. I'm sure we all know those "CLICK ME DOWNLOAD ME FOR FREE ROOT I-I CAN REALLYDO IT GUYS JU-JUST DOWNLOAD ME!* advertisements. One in particular struck my eye, no names will be given, and I tried it out.
Downloaded the Windows executable for the laughs and giggles (never thinking it would actually work) and whaddya know, right after telling me my device is rootable it's now asking me for 40$.
I figured, what the hell, I just got paid and sent the money over thinking I was about to get scammed. Hoped on live chat and setup everything the way they asked me to (taking even longer than a grandma driving because potatonet) and they start, and I'm not joking, REMOTE CONTROLLING my PC to root my phone (granted, the root method for my phone was advertised, blatantly stating they would have to control my PC but.. come on).
At this point all I can think about is how I'm lucky I have a throwaway PC and this phone doesn't mean my life or I would be really pissed when I start seeing a worm come out of my harddrive.
Needless to say the process took about an hour, maybe an hour and a half (much longer than their *15-20 minute* claim time, but not awful nonetheless) and I walked out of there with a non-bricked rooted S8+.
So.. what exactly went wrong with my setup, and how can you guys avoid spending 40$ just to ROOT YOUR PHONE.
I'm not a professional. I can't offer professional advice. But what I can tell you is I know exactly what went wrong for me in this case.
I never flashed the 7.0 stock android ROM. I was trying to flash PCR (which, ironically enough is what said company used.. yes.. they used PCR. Not a custom method. Not a custom ROM. They literally used PCR) over 8.0.
So, I'm out 40$, but walked out with a rooted S8+ and I'm fairly happy. Apparently those root programs aren't ALL bad.
But seriously.. why aren't there any 8.0 ROMs or root methods that actually work? Every method I've seen requires you to downgrade. I know Oreo only came out last month but there are some seriously talented people here on XDA and the fact that I had to downgrade just to have to reflash in about a month or twos time is frustrating to say the least. But, that's just venting and off-topic.
So, laugh at the idiotboy who couldn't figure out how to read instructions properly or setup his project right, but just know.. just know.. I spent 40$ to root my phone. And that, my friends, is an amazing feat.
(Also, I apologize if this isn't in the right section.. I feel like it's not but I have NO idea where else to post this. This is more of a story thread to make myself the eye of the public humiliation but it does also serve as a reminder to really check everything before you start rooting. I got lucky. I could have potentially hardbricked my brandnew s8+ simply because I didn't read the instructions properly, or plan correctly. This is something that a lot of new users fail to do, and then complain when *their phone is stuck in a bootloop*.
If you don't know what you're doing, there are plenty of people here on XDA and apparently all over the web who will be more than happy to take your money and root your phone, relatively safely, for you.)

"root is not going to happen unless on of two things happen. Either we get combo oreo firmware so we have an oreo boot.img that is permissive or they event root that will work on stock enforcing boot.img for oreo because you can not modify the boot.img on a locked bootloader. Systemless root like on S7 will not work unless we have an eng boot.img with security set to 0 like the s7 has, so that scripts can execute at time of boot to allow a systemless type of supersu to run. I personally would not expect root anytime soon as if you look back at whats been released for combo firmware it only seems to be firmware for the original software that came on the phone. They just update the bootloaders to match the version number so that you can still flash the nougat combo firmware, but I doubt we see oreo combo firmware. It just has not happened on earlier models. The S7 has been lucky that eng boot.img have been released for nougat but the s8 would require also eng bootloaders to be released as you simply cant flash an eng boot.img on regular bootloaders like you can on the s7. There is always hope but in this case it is really dim but we do have some options with safestrap and modded system images but this part could come to an end at anytime if samsung patches the samfail method so enjoy what you have for now"

I have a rooted debloated S8+ (SM-G955U) and I've been looking for custom ROMS for days now and all I could find was the G95XF or whatever that is. And I'm tempted just to throw it on my phone and try but I'm too scarred to do it. I'd really like literally any custom ROM because that's kind of the entire reason I rooted my phone so I'm just a tad aggregated as well. I don't see any progress with the ROMS either I've been searching all over XDA and on youtube. But yet nothing. If anyone finds anything do you think you could msg me? Somehow?

there is only one rooted rom for 950/5 u do not flash f stuff on your phone not only will it fail in odin but if by some weird act of craziness and worked you would be probably near hardbricked

There actually is a form of root for Oreo but it's not exactly root because you only have access to r/w in recovery/safestrap

EDIT; I misread your thread. I thought you were saying you had a G95xF device you were going to throw a G95xU ROM on.
If you have a G95xU device, here is what I used to flash my ROM/root https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...root-partcyborgrom-aqk3-samfail-odin-t3717702.
If you have a G95xF device, I cannot give you any links because I haven't done any research into that firmware.
EDIT 2; My points still stand. Do NOT flash custom ROMs on your phone that aren't for your phone model. You will ruin your phone.
Just don't. It's not worth it.

Disappointed

Got my new Note 4 on my doorstep. From a technical standpoint, the phone is nice. Pretty fast, nice screen. But I feel let down. I really hate the stock ROM. Running Nova helps. It makes it bearable. I really thought I would like the bigger screen. But the problem is everything is just enlarged. You don't actually have more screen real estate. I have had my GS4 running Cyanogen for quite a while now and I like it. On my new Note 4 I feel very disappointed. If there isn't a root in the next few days I may return it to the store and stick with my GS4.
There won't be a way to root for a long time or ever for that matter....sorry to burst your bubble. I would suggest doing your homework before buying a device for modding. The latest is no longer the greatest from that standpoint. That being said if you want root and do not care about future updates or warranty, the Developer Edition N4 will be out soon . the downfall is you must purchase it outright and there will not be much support for it. However it is unlocked and rootable.
I thought I could get used to it. After all TouchWiz has come a long way. Many people like it. The root for all the other carriers is out. And the talk is that once the stock recoveries are posted Chainfire will be able to get it part of CF-Auto-Root.

That "talk" is wrong. cf-root works by flashing a modded recovery and installing supersu via custom scripts made by chainfire for his own personal stuff. since you guys have a locked bootloader that means you wont be flashing any recovery/boot partitions.
plus factor in L's new security and if you guys dont get root before the ota rolls out you may never get it.

whats "L's" because the N4 is KK if that refers to Lollipop.
i cant tell you how many times i have had a phone that gets the dreaded "you wont see root for a long time if ever" and then within weeks (tops) we have root.
i would be willing to wager that before Dec and probably earlier there will be root for this N4

I didnt say you wouldnt ever get root, just that when it finally gets updated to L you can kiss all chances of getting root then goodbye. i imagine someone has an exploit they are waiting to drop and see if its patched in 5.0 whether or not it becomes public is entirely up to them at that point. as it stands that is your best shot at a 4.4 root.
i dont know what OP is talking about i have 100s of apps on this thing and still flying like butta!!!

Towel root will not work. The app itself says the note 4 isnt a capable device. Maybe geohot just has to include it, but i wouldnt get your hopes up
There well be a root method within the next week or so. The bootloader will never be unlocked on this phone. Hashtag was the safestrap guru. If someone picked up the reins from him, then we'll likely get a way to flash roms and recovery. Personally, all I want is root to take some of this crap off the phone. I'm done with flashing ROMs.

I tried it, no go. Luckily it tells you that the phone isn't supported instead of just screwing it up.
I'm going to take the 12 days I have left to pray for root if not I'm going to see what I can do with a Bluetooth stylus and a nexus 6. I'm upgrading from a note 2 running Aosp Roms. I had the phone for less then an hour before it was rooted and unlocked I ran beans Roms at first but my need to be on the newest version of Android and dislike of touchwiz I found aosp Roms with apps like GMD spen control great. Currently with the N4 I miss the custom gestures to open evernote and ime switch

I like your optimism, but look at what happened to the S5 when it arrived. Took a lot more than the 2 week return window to achieve root. I'm still hedging between this phone and the Xperia, but seems like either way root will not be there quickly.

Although the S5 root method doesn't work for the N4, it gives devs a head start.

I agree, it's not terrible and not nearly as laggy as early phones were. I still use Apex so I can use icon and theme packs and make better use of screen size. All in all, if root never came, I'd be content enough to deal... it would be nice for Adaway, Titanium and Xposed though. I'll put my money down soon and see. I'm betting we get root sooner than later.
If root, or more importantly, flashing roms is that important to the OP, then why don't you go with t-mobile? Their Note 4 has an unlocked bootloader. Like another said, do your homework beforehand.

I've had it...

Help...please.
Rooting this phone is a convoluted bunch of bull****.
I am on OC4. I need to downgrade. Yet every tutorial I go to is full of broken links for the files I need and over a year old.
So far I have these as steps.
1. Downgrade via Odin somehow, not sure what file to use for that, as most links are broken af due to their age. I have Odin 3.10.
2. Towelroot.
3. Recovery
4. Custom rom, going Cyanogen.
5. I have seen threads mentioning having to downgrade my Kernel? Where does that fit in?
Before you ask I have searched google and this forum first, as per protocol. I probably didn't look hard enough.
I am not asking for a step by step, just updated links or tutorials, and maybe some info on what I have right and wrong.
I am NOT NEW to rooting android phones. Rooted the last 5 I've owned starting with the G1.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the noobness. This S5 isn't like my 4G LTE or Droid Incrdible, but it is still pissing me off.

There are no Cyanogen ROMs for our phones, since that requires a different kernel than our locked bootloader can accept. Which ROM do you want to use? I'll see if I can put together a quick guide for you. I personally use Freedom ROM, which currently uses an OC4 base.
Right here buddy 3rd post. Most of this stuff is pretty easy you just have to read threw the threads.

freedom rom and alliance rom look good. So one of those if cyanogen doesn't work.

Unless you bought a Developer edition with an unlocked bootloader, it's best to stay away from the Unified Development section. You'll just end up with your heartbroken, since they all require kernels that we can't get on our phone. Your best bet is to stick within the Verizon-specific development thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development
And make sure you end up with the right firmware (bootloader, kernel, modem) that matches the ROM you choose! Otherwise, you won't boot up. It took me a few failed boots and attempts before I learned that the hard way.

So my question is, since I don't have any backup or anything, can someone provide me with the steps to get me started? Like what post to root it on this specific carrier and how everything? please
Thanks

Of course we can get your started but see
But first you must answer us these question three.
Why do you want root?
Do you have a computer? (This is a must for root.)
Are you ready to be disappointed?

GOOD LUCK - BTW use flash fire app in play store to make backups and flash roms

Well while I was waiting I just rooted it. So what do you think that would be the next step towards installing a rom? To answer your survey questions  :
1- Because a phone without being rooted is like a bird without wins.

Well then.
Rooting the phone (as I'm sure you had already found out) was fairly easy.
BUT... since we do not have an unlocked bootloader then we cannot have any custom recovery. Which means we can only (for now) use adb and Fireflash to flash any custom firmwares. And while we're on the subject of that... there is only one custom rom. Well... technically there are two but only one for you since you updated to the latest firmware.
Echoe ROM which was updated (ummm...) September 9th (not including the Verizon version which might work but with no promises)
Tekxv2 which was updated back in July. Unfortunately, that is flashed by adb (computer required) and only supports G935TUVS3APD8 which is... pretty old.
Things that you may notice with root.
Battery life may be shorter.
Strange icons on your status bar.
Might start to have random reboots for absolutely no reason.
Can't use Samsung Pay and some other apps.
Phone might be laggy.
Phone might feel hot.
Some of those can be resolved by flashing the only custom rom that we have (Echoe ROM... which is a rather nice rom) but it's not "there" yet.
Or you can use the guide in my signature to resolve issues like the lag and the strange icons. Yet even after the "fix" you might still experience both again from time to time.
You might even have the IMS force close issue which I used to get about once a month. It would piss me off because no sooner that you click the button, it'll pop up again and you don't have time to do anything. You're pretty much forced to reflash stock, wipe, re-root, restore a latest backup... which can take hours and is rather inconvenient if it happens to you while you're at work like it always seemed to happen for me.
SO...
All in all... root is okay. It's better than nothing I suppose. But until we get more developer support for this phone then in my opinion it's kinda pointless in my opinion.
Too many drawbacks. I eventually unrooted two weeks ago and I love my phone now. I'm using the heck out of Samsung Pay especially since their promotions are pretty nice right now! Plus a few members are testing the Nouget update which probably won't be getting root at all since rooting requires an engineering kernel which we don't have and might not get. Or an unlocked bootloader which we've pretty much given up on.
A lot of members that are testing the Nouget beta firmware are extremely satisfied with it so if we can't root Nouget then having a rooted S7 will probably fade away as more people update to Android 7+. That's where I see this going anyway.

How are you doing with the ads? Like youtube, pandora, spotify? I just installed xposed and the phone feels very hot, and If I unroot it (which I'm thinking to do) I won't be able to get things without ads (I know about vpns and browsers). Also how can I install teaks for apps? Installing apks from pages that promise you this and you have to log in is very untruthful. Any suggestions to all this?

I just put up with them.
In all reality, I don't use my phone for the purposes that require my viewing of ads to begin with.
Sure when I was rooted I had adblocker. But honestly, I had completely forgotten all about that benefit of being rooted until now.
I suppose if you absolutely need to be rid of ads then by all means, retain root. However ads don't effect my daily use one bit.

I just put up with them.
In all reality, I don't use my phone for the purposes that require my viewing of ads to begin with.
Sure when I was rooted I had adblocker. But honestly, I had completely forgotten all about that benefit of being rooted until now.

I just flash the appropriate firmware that you had prior to rooting with ODIN.
Never had any issues. Which "guide" are you referring to?

bro now I'm friking out, I followed this guide and when I click in flash it says Fail. I followed it step by step, I don't don't what's going on and when I reset the phone it says custom and doesn't even load, so tmobil would know that I rooted it...
fff.... can you give me the link, guide, whatever you used to revert it?

You're probably trying to flash a firmware with a V3 bootloader over G935TTMB4APK1.
If you were seriously following that (outdated) guide step by step then you tried flashing TMB_G935TUVU3APG1.zip over a PK1 firmware. Yeah... that doesn't work.
Download the latest firmware from sammmobile.
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G935T/
Try it again.
IF that doesn't work... try using Smart Switch.
I haven't done it before but I think it's the Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.

You have no idea the help you gave me. I went to sammobil before but since it said that the download speed was too slow, I didn't do it through that page. Now I did it and it's working fine thanks bro.
But when I start it, it says: custom in the log in, how can I totally put it original?

If I want to remove everything and just leave it plain how it comes from factory when you buy it, do I just flash the AP file?

You should flash everything.
BL= Bootloader (which should be V4 since you updated to the latest firmware already. Anything less than V4 will fail.)
AP= Is for System, Cache, kernel, etc.
CP= Is for modems
CSC is for your HOME_CSC_TMB_G935TTMB4APK1_CL9507190_QB11413830_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 file.
Important! If you use the CSC_TMB_G935TTMB4APK1_CL9507190_QB11413830_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 (doesn't have the word "HOME" in the name) then it'll wipe your phone!
If your phone still says "CUSTOM" on it then make sure that reboot and check again. If it still says custom then make sure that you don't still have the engineering kernel. Re-flash the AP files again if so. It shouldn't though if it's 100% stock. Also note if you saw the unlocked padlock on the S7 Edge splash screen (before the bootanimation).
Good luck and happy New Year.

Pokemon Go with Fake GPS on the S5 Verizon

Hi,
I bought a used a Verizon S5 hoping to play PoGo using Fake GPS. But I am unable to select a Fake GPS app in Settings. I am currently on 5.0 (version ending in BPB1) and checking for software updates on the phone fails. Presumably because I do not have a SIM in the phone as I would like to continue to use my iPhone. The S5 would be only on Wifi (or iPhone's hotspot) and used only to play PoGo.
I have read through (most of) the painiac's (excellent) guide and I am trying to decide what to do next:
1. Try to install marshmallow update (no root) and see if the option to select the fake GPS appears in settings
2. Root the phone and try several custom ROM's to see if the option appears
3. Sell the phone back and try another phone
I have flashed custom ROM's with older Android phones some 3 years ago. Modding scene has considerably changed since then and I find myself reading warnings and seeing dead ends (permanently locked bootloaders etc) everywhere. Any advice would be appreciated.
Let me rephrase the question. I can update to marshmallow 6.0 with images available on the internet. I will lose the ability to root the phone. But I may be able to run fake gps and play pokemon go.
Or I can try rooting it and then installing xposed or other frameworks to get the set up on lollipop 5.0 - which is root-able.
Which would be the recommended way for someone like me with mediocre android hacking skills and very little time?
Thanks.
Marshmallow will give you the option to make Fake GPS the default mock application.
However, Pokemon Go will not run on rooted devices unless you know of a workaround for that.

you've come to the right person asking this stuff lol I used to cover all that stuff daily on my yt channel. gained 2400 subs in 3 weeks due to posting my vids on other sites that allowed pogo hacks to be posted. was doing 3-4 vids a day.
AOSP based roms will not work on Pokemon Go. That leaves out anything like Cyanogenmod or anything compiled from it.
The only way i got POGO to work on my spare s5 (i use it for testing) was to flash back stock NI2, re-root with towel root, flash a TouchWiz based rom with SafeStrap, then delete the Root binary and anything SU related, basically unrooting my rom and backing it up manually and only putting em back when it was needed
There's probably better ways now, but for me this worked 100%
POGO isn't worth the effort in my opinion.

Thanks so much. I am currently not rooted and when I go to MM I cannot be rooted from what I understand. So I think I will do the upgrade when I have some time. I will lose the ability to root but I can live with that.

I agree on the effort comment, but I am not sure why you are rooting the device if it does not work on rooted devices? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to stay un-rooted and keep it simple and stupid?
Also, can anyone point me to a legit MM stock ROM? I have downloaded ODIN but I am nervous about the sketchy websites needing registration for downloading the ROM image. I need stock un-rooted Verizon ROM so I was thinking it should be easy to find. However I am not having much luck on the Googles.
Using Magisk 10.2 and the root bundled with it works. You just have to use Magisk hide which is now bundled with magisk.
I'm on vzw s5 running phoenix rom with root. Can still play pogo. No luck on xposed though.
Just a quick update. I got all the things in place for updating the phone to Marshmallow 6.0 and connected the phone to the computer for the first time. The phone gave me messages about installing software update agent and I followed the instructions. It offered to install the marshmallow update from verizon and I took that offer.
After the update, the option to select a GPS app showed up on the phone. I selected my installed app and almost everything works on pokemon go now.
I say almost because PoGo still jumps back to home location for a short second from time to time. But from what I can tell, the fix needs root. So I'll just leave good enough alone for now.
Thanks for all the help.

Anyone know how to get fake gps working on iphone full process please and stable working. I need to know full method which includes what jailbreak is best, what iphone versions are best and easy to do. Also how to disable or turn off mock location detection. Like in andriod you can do it via smali. Please I tried looking for usefull info on the net everywhere but can't seem to find solid info. Cheers

Trying to root, stuck at the first hurdle

Hi guys
I have a spare phone now my son upgraded, the S5 SM-G901F. I thought it wound be fun to install another software, possibly more up to date. So I first set out to root it but I haven't played around much with this sort of thing for long while.
I googled and found it seemed to be Odin to use so I downloaded 3.10. Also downloaded cf root. I went into download mode and when I plugged it in, the light in Odin lit up showing successfully connected. When I added the cf file and clicked start it went through some steps but stuck at Recovery. Img and wouldn't progress further.
I tried multiple times, tried a different cable and USB port and also Odin 3.07 and a different cf file even though I think it was the same one but from a different site. All no better.
Originally I bought it a few years back, used from a colleague. I think it was a carrier phone, EE iirc, and I had to get a code to unlock the SIM to use with mine. Maybe that also means it's software is locked?
Any help much appreciated
Thanks, marc
No one guys?

well to be honest, i would need to spend some time, "Googling" your model .... . I believe , your S5 is a Dev phone, meaning, it was not set up for any carrier, just for running demo's and such. IF this is true, I have no true answer for you.
Odin yes, you need that, that is true! (Believe 3.07, 3.09 and 3.10 work the best for these phones. Had tried a very newer version, several month back, and it did not do the job.. something like 3.14 or 16)
I recommend going to Sam Mobile, and run your model # through them. They will give you all the info about your model and possibly the latest firmware for it.
Sorry that I can not give you all that you are needing. I just don't know a ton about those S5 Plus models. (( I had to even look 'em up too) the plus has a slight better chip was well as graphics, but again, I dont know of any that actually work on a modern carrier like sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile , etc.)
Thanks for the reply mate.
It definitely isn't a Dev phone, my colleague definitely had it on contact from a carrier initially.
I hadn't actually realised or noticed it being a Plus model as some sites mention the Plus and some don't.
Any other help from anyone appreciated

OK, Was only going off your model # you had given.
Did check... Odin and a good copy of CF auto root... That should be that.
Then of course, get away from a really old non sucure os (6.01 MM was their last made) .
Other than those 2 pieces, you should be good to root
Not pushing, or anything but LineageOS is rather good and does run well on these!
Plus, get a monthly security injection!

Well, I would have to say NOPE!
Well only trying to keep your Q, on the top, so folks that might know, could help!
BTW, when I looked your model up, totally different CPU and GPU, which might need a different CF auto root zip, or a different one to actually work... Since hardware is different.
Just guessing on that, but, could be wrong. Rather busy at the moment, but will look up your specs again, and see if I find something for ya.
Mean time, Hopefully someone could chime in and point you towards the correct path to take...
OH
Q- What sort Recovery do you currently have? (Stock or custom (e.g. TWRP))
Might want to check for one for your phone.
I would actually start with TWRP, see what they have for ya.
( Will need Odin for this! BUT, once you have a Recovery in/on the phone, then you could use Magisk to root ot try CF and see 8f that works for you (I use Majisk) Plus add in the fact that you should make a Back up, of your current system! In case of issues, you can always jump back to Stock. )

Cheers mate. So, some progression.
Firstly i didn't have a custom recovery or root. I was getting stopped at the first hurdle.
So, i figured it had something to do with it using a carrier firmware, EE, in the UK. So i found a stock European firmware and successfully used odin to flash it. Then i flashed CF root and TWRP. All good.
So with new confidence i flashed Resurrection Remix Android 9. Although it seemed to have worked, each time i tried to complete set up, straight after imputting my gmail address, the screen was black. Not BSOD type though, if i pressed home it went back to the home screen to i just couldn't complete set up.
So i tried Lineage and that was a boot loop.
Not sure if part of the issue was Gapps but i was definitely using the correct version. ARM, Android 9, stock.
I gave up, reinstalled the stock Android marshmallow and rooted again and installed TWRP. that's where i am now.
Shame really as i fancied a more up to date OS.
Thanks, Marc

Wait, isn't what you were wanting?
Well at least you now have a Recovery installed! Now, with that of course you can now make a back up of your stock!!!
( other words,.. MAKE A BACK UP! That way, you only have to wipe the system, data, cache and BAM, in the Flash of zip, your back at square one...)
OK, not sure if you picked up a new info about LineageOS, across the pond....
But
They ran into some issues, (soon and hopefully sooner, it will be fixed). Now, after that, they will be dropping LineageOS 17.1 Official!! Yes, for Galaxy S5 too
So, keep an eye out for that, cause am in same Boat, waiting for the Official release.
( personal, I run LineageOS, Magisk (Root and some goodies.. Unfortunately I do tend to add Ggogle, but like Pico, nothing larger. Do flash a kernel also. That said, rather stable, and most everything works) at least for me.... Just waiting for Official 17.1 to roll out! (like just about anyone left that has these phones...)
