Success with retgb OTA security updates using reteu links - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi all,
Fed up of waiting for security updates in retgb, still on November 2017 patch level, I used the Motorola OTA link generator tool at https://motoota.lolinet.com to generate links for reteu. I grabbed the January, March and April (released in the last few hours!) 2018 patches, applying each in turn. I'm now on NPNS25.137-93-10. All installed without issue using
Code:
adb sideload
and I've had no radio issues after the update (2G / 3G / 4G all happy, GPS fine etc). As expected this still leaves me on retgb, but future manual updates / auto updates when retgb catches up will work.
For reference, these are the build details I'm running -

Thought I'd share this here in case anybody else was fed up of waiting. After reading that UK orders for the G5 Plus resulted in some people getting reteu devices direct from Motorola, and as this procedure worked without rooting and without any build number / verification issues, I thought I'd give it a go.
Still won't get us Oreo but at least reteu isn't totally forgotten by Motorola!
As an aside, I also stumbled upon the 4G / GPS problem commands -
Code:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
I ran these to be doubly sure I didn't have a mismatch between installed and cached modem firmware. I can confirm I ran these commands and haven't lost 2G / 3G / 4G / GPS connectivity. Some people report loss of connectivity on other devices but from what I can gather modemst1 and modemst2 are cached, and rebuilt from the modem partition / NON-HLOS.bin.
P.S. Can anybody recommend a good custom ROM? Lineage and Pixel Experience seem to be the best. I need a ROM which passes SafetyNet and camera quality and battery life comparable to stock.

Wondered when someone from the UK would comment about lack of updates, nice workaround.
Just out of interest which network are you on, mines O2, was going to post on the Motorola forum, see why retgb phones seem to be outside the update system, maybe this is all down too brexit lol

Which Details did you use is motoota.lolinet.com I mean model, software version, carrier as if i try it gives me no ota available can you share the final ota file as I am currently on NPNS25.137-93-8 and I just need 1 ota to get there

I'm on TPO, but I've switched a few times. My G5 Plus was bought direct from Motorola last May. Doesn't seem to have any link to network, they just ignore retgb! My wife has a Nokia 5 and that's been running Oreo for months. Although the Motorola G range is great value, the lack of updates and difference between the release channels mean I won't be buying again. As soon as LineageOS have an official potter build I'll be switching to that.

Model (ro.product.model)
Moto G (5) Plus
Software version (ro.build.version.full)
Blur_Version.25.321.12.potter.retail.en.US
Carrier (ro.carrier)
reteu
You will need to retrieve your current ro.build.version.full from
Code:
getprop
in the ADB shell, the number above is the latest version with the April 2018 patch. Only use reteu if you are on retgb / retus / retapac.

Software update notification just received

Just got a software update notification on my G5. I don't see any version number or details, anyone else get the notification?
I just got it, did the update, and was wondering the same. I was hoping to get a surprise android 7 update. I guess it would be too much to ask for LG or any manufacturer to release an update with an android version released 6 months ago.
The one good thing I can say about apple. When they release an update it gets pushed out. They dont let the manufacture and then the carrier finger f#%^ it for a year before making it available.
AT&T update also
I also just got the update, in fact it's still installing ... Phone nows says Android Version 6.0.1, Kernel 3.18.20, Build MMB29M Software version H82011n ... no idea yet what is different
I just got the notification. I'm not installing it as long as the phone doesn't forcefeed it, that last H82011K buggered my phone pretty bad and it gives me flashbacks of bootloops and factory resets now when an update pops up.

It will force it, I had a notification that I couldn't get rid of. And since the hopes of getting root are very low I decided to just go with it.

AT&T has finally started rolling out the long-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update to its variant of the LG G5.
---------- Post added at 03:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:29 AM ----------
Currently downloading the update now.
Yep just got the update on my phone.
It has been a week and have gotten the notification twice and been unable to download it on the Wi-Fi network I was on. Now I don't get it at home and even when I set the clock ahead it says android is up to date. What gives?
It's only too bad Nougat is so greedy for battery. Look at that - 37 minutes screen on and I'm down to 48% left. Awful.
Not worth the upgrade IMO.

1.) Return to the USA, power down your phone and insert your active AT&T Sim card.
2.) Power your phone on and then go to settings>general>about phone>software update.
3.) Press "update now" and wait for update to finish.
Since you aren't yet on the H82011N firmware, you will have to repeat step 2-3 until you are on H82011N, before you can finally update to Nougat, which is H82020J.
:good:

I've been looking for a way to capture the actual file myself. Apparently it's impossible for the AT&T G5 because the bootloader is locked and no root is possible, which would be necessary to intercept and copy the actual OTA file.
These problems directly stem from the fact that AT&T will never release a KDZ or TOT for us because they're evil, and ultimately don't want their clients to gain root and potentially extend the life of their phone hardware via 3rd party Roms like CyanogenMod.
Since I am not a developer I am curious whether you can make anything that would for us with the nougat source code for the h820?

Okay thanks. I too am hoping this update will fix the bluetooth connectivity issues. I read somewhere that Google has been working on a fix.
Droid Life believes this will include BT fixes.
Which would be great as I felt like throwing my phone out the window as I never connected to my BT speaker at home yesterday.

and what's wrong with 7.1.1?
So I'm rooted with feb update. Franco kernel, unlocked bootloader, suhide, and safety net lib patches for android pay to work. I'd really rather not start over with all that again so does anyone know which or what of that I'll have to redo if I take this update?

Security patch

Just got new OTA today for Osprey 2GB 1540 got January 1 2017 security patch. I was shocked this is the first OTA I have gotten on my wifes phone since we did the initial OTA update when we bought it to get 6.0. Did anyone else get it? Build # MPIS24.65-25.1-14

I was prompted with a Jan 2017 patch update this morning as well. Osprey, 2GB, 1540 model. Update Version: 24.211.14.en.US (from the system update notice)
I haven't accepted it yet.
I am using XT1541 1GB model and I went back to stock ROM with stock Recovery few weeks ago . I recieved two security updates one after another which I acceptede an disntalled succesfully . However I am not sure if you have a custom recovery and whether they will be compatible with customer recovery . One of them was security update an dsecodn one included support for security+ unicode 8 support in text messages or something like that
usually they wont work with custom recovery. Nice to see they are at least giving us security patches, since we wont get 7.0 officially. (as of now anyway)
Well, just over a year of phone uptime, haha. I was seeing how long it would go before crapping out, and now Motorola wants to give us security updates from the past year and 3 months.
I'm not sure I'll give this phone another year of use to try again.

There is no such thing.
I received the security patch, switched to stock recovery before trying to install, but was unsuccessful, I have root/xposed so it seems you need to have an unmodified system partition to work
anyone knows a way to apply the ota successfully without flashing stock system first, or at least a way to get rid of the annoying notification, prompting for the update?

Hello guys!
I updated my moto g TE (xt1556), to january security patch, but I'm having problem to install xposed, after install stuck on warning bootloader, anyone more having this issue? or any idea how can I fix that?
I've installed the update on my XT1541 (non-rooted), but I'm not too happy about it. Had twice issues with network connectivity and it generates a bugreport every 2 hours or so. Haven't had the time to look at a report to see what crashes...

Somehow you were suggested to download full 11.0.11.0 OTA (it's size is 1.34Gb) instead of incremental 11.0.10.0 -> 11.0.11.0 OTA (24,19Mb).
While http://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1700353 still points to full 11.0.10.0 OTA .... probably some dummy instead of updating link in Community Web server accidentally updated link in OTA server ?
Hi all. I've recently updated my newly acquired A2 to Android 10 from Pie. I tether my phone for many hours per day but the phone's Data Usage measurement of Hotspot & tethering is only ~20MB when I know I've used a few GB for the same date period. I don't know if this is a problem introduced in Android 10 or a problem that was there with Pie, as I've only recently started to use the phone. Does anyone else have this problem or know what's going on? thanks

Android 10 version of Mi A2 still has all bugs from January it was realeazed, they don't fix anything. The only thing that maybe they have fixed is the performance. So I guess another bug.

Yes. It's such a shame - it's a well made and good value phone, but these small bugs make it annoying to use. Going custom is probably the best solution, but I don't think I'm ready for that jump yet. The choice of budget to mid range phones has increased a lot in the last couple of years, and Xiaomi no longer have the market to themselves, so it's their loss.
Does anybody have patched boot image?
There in information about call recording added in this update for MI A2. True?
@jorikello, I've applied the June update but there is no recording option when I make a call. Perhaps it's region specific because of local laws on recording - I am in the UK.
Somebody to report call recording availability after June update? I have not this option unfortunately... For me it's important functionality update.

Would you happen to know of a direct download link for this update? Or might you be able to post a copy of the file that you downloaded for others to access?
Many of us in areas where updates are often delayed for long periods, such as here in Canada, use a VPN to download updates from India as soon as they're available. However, this method doesn't work so far for participating in / downloading the beta.
I think is not possible to acess update's file, so, we have to wait till stable release...
Got coloros11.1 update on 27 jan

Today should be the release of coloros 11 final in India and Indonesia. Did someone receive it?
Received..
they just changed the March 3rd beta update to official.
That's it no additional download required.
If you already received the beta update of March 3rd 2021 you are running the official version.
I am trying with Speedify India and Indonesia servers, but nothing
It seems Oppo won't release the full Android 11 ROM on their support site for a while (Find X2 Android 11 was available since last Nov but the full ROM is still not available for download as of now).
For us non India/Indonesia variant users might need to do the region change trick to get the download working, saw that on Find X2 Pro forum but haven't try that out myself yet:
[GUIDE] Switch software region to Upgrade to ColorOS 11 and enable Dual Sim.
I want to write this here so it's all in one place and not scattered around different threads. Apologies for the bad formatting in some parts as this is on of my first contribution. Most of this is copied from this thread: I am adding onto this...
forum.xda-developers.com
Update:
I was able to swtich my Taiwan variant (CPH1919TW) to India version using the method above, and has upgraded my phone to Android 11 successfully. Not even VPN is needed, just click the apply trial version in settings after reboot.
Overall some nice improvments here and there, not as huge improvement going from Android 9 to Andorid 10, but still a nice upgrade. System is smooth as usual (I didn't do a clean install, just upgrade).
Considering there is still no confirmed upgrade schedule on other regions, it's worth to try the above method, it's not that difficult neither.
Holy ****, it works. Many thx to you squallho1
After switch to India version, apply trial version and now downloading in Czech republic without VPN.
Working in The Netherlands! Changed to Phone to India with above mentioned tutorial and now downloading coloros11, thanks!
And now that the phone region is India I finally have the dual wifi option available in the settings
Using the above guide Android 11 working fine. But now the phone has some bloatware on it - the Oppo App Store - though you can hide Hotapps & Hotgames in the AppStore settings.
I thought changing the region back EuropeEx might get rid of it - but I get the error 'Connection problem or invalid mmi code', instead of the region screen appearing in the dialer.
Anyway around this?
The dual-wifi works fine - its connects to my 2_4ghz and 5Ghz bands simultaneously. Overall Im more than happy with the Android 11 upgrade and would recommend it.
