With what will Flyme 8 come? Android Oreo Treble or Android P that is almost reality? - Meizu Pro 5 Questions & Answers

Google's strong hand against defragmentation, manufacturers can only launch new phones with Android Oreo
Since you have to put the batteries, make Flyme for our Meizu Pro 5 or let install roms by opening the code. Flyme skip if they want Oreo (you have a few months left) and start with Android P
Hopefully someone can make a ROM for the Pro5, because if not nothing, darkness with Flyme. Change of mobile in a year or two (with 4 already well amortized) :fingers-crossed:
Google closed Nougat certification in March, all new Play Certified devices must launch with Oreo..clic here :good:

Android oreo will come to meizu in 2029 don't wait.
Go and buy another phone because Google kicked Meizu's ass i think.

Totally agree!!
Meizu Pro 5 with Flyme dies:
Flyme 5 .. Android 5.1
Flyme 6 ..
- Chinese version: January 2017 based on Marshmallow (Android 6.0)
-Global version July 2017 based on Lollipop (Android 5.1)
Flyme 7 .. based on Nougat (Android 7.1.2), are there a beta version now, I think (May 2018)
Flyme 8 .. based on Oreo, far far away
Flyme 9 .. based on P, I do not think we'll see him in this life!!
------
PD:
Nougat .. June 2016 (Meizu level now)
Oreo .. Agoust 2017
Android P .. Agoust 2018
-------
you wait seated or better don't wait!

I've been observing that Meizu decided to abandon Global market and concentrate on local Chinese market. And it is not that they are very up to date in the Chinese market. Also abandon Android rate
Chinese versions (A): Flyme 6.3.0.2A (Android 6) (2018-4-12)
It's not stable. Battery drain. Many chinese apps (they are easily deleted) and Google Play Store is a simulation. *The applications hang, the firmware is not friendly with google apps, "No suitable appstore found" in some apps. Stay on 6.1.0.0A if you can! but it's very old version based on Android 5.1. You have to returned to the old version of the firmware, becase this 6.3.0.2A can not be used.
International (global) versions (G): 6.1.0.0G (Android 5.1) but from Flyme 5.1.11.0G Google Mobile Services (GMS) was removed....
Resurrecction Remix with Android 7.1.2. very good, the best we have!! Thank you, Faust93!! Good job!!
Meizu oficial firmware (that running ok) is on Android 5.1.. It's very sad!! No?

Ahahahaha Flyme 8 on our PRO5 ?!
More probable to see the end of this world before this happens...

It is frustrating when you spend a lot of money on an Android mobile and you see that the "little time" becomes obsolete. In the next mobile that I bought I will look for a very good policy of updates both by the manufacturer and by the Xda community. Technology is like that, in two years any phone is already very old.
In our case we have three options: settle for what we have, resort to the only ROM if we do not have money or buy a new phone if we have it.
That your Android phone does not receive the latest updates both system and security yes, it is very bad. I am against all brands that do not.
The easiest thing is to buy a new one, but I'm going to try to extend the life of this phone a little longer, at the moment it's not bad with Nougat, to see if a ROM release or a new ROM with Oreo comes out. I do not expect anything new because it is old and almost nobody has it. While It's working, I'll continue with him. I also do not like the phones with Notch
I currently feel that the purchase of this mobile phone has not gone well, how I feel like changing it but I do not want to throw away the 400 euros that the Pro 5 cost in the trash.

Upgrading from Redmi note 2 to Redmi note 3 pro?

Hi everyone,
I have a redmi note 2 prime, buyed 4 months ago.
I like it much, except for the camera and the community development: they ported the cm 12 and other cool things, but I come from a nexus 5 and I miss it a lot from this point of view. I know the nexus is the most modded phone, but from a phone which sold that much (redmi note 2) I was expecting more development (I know that the kernel source is needed for this...). Also helio x10 was a bit disappointing: good battery, but it's slower of the sd800 (I compared both) of my old nexus 5 and it gets hot when playing.
That said, I saw the new redmi note (redmi note 3 pro) and now I want to buy that.
I would sell my redmi note 2 prime (let's say for 130-40€) and buy the redmi 3 pro for 210€
So for 70-80€ this would be the main improvements:
Helio x10 -> snapdragon 650 (from 45000 to over 70000 on antutu)
2gb ram -> 3gb RAM
13mpx rear camera -> 16mpx (hopefully does better)
Single flash led -> dual tone
3000mah battery -> 4000mah
No fingerprint sensor -> fingerprint (I really like it)
Plastic body -> metal
Now the questions:
Very important to me, will this phone be more easy to development (because of snapdragon instead of mediatek) and will it actually have more development? (Will the kernel source be public as for other xiaomi snapdragon devices?)
For you, is it worth to upgrade from rn2 prime to rn3 pro for 70-80€?
It has passed one week since the launch of rn3 pro and still there is no reviews (not a single one). Why?
Other thoughts about it are welcome.
Thank you.
Yes, buy it. It has no sd card support which sucks but rom development is more feasible.
There is sd card support!!u can put one sim and sd card at the same time!!

i think the most interesting in reno 3 pro for me are volte and global band support (including cdma2000). i would like to switch to this phone which volte is widely adopted in my country.
whether or not mod exist depends on ..
1. the sales volume and most important 2. source code availability. xiaomi will never opensource as you wish.

1. Sales volume is very hard to predict. Maybe tomorrow they announce the redmi note 4 and nobody buys the redmi note 3 pro anymore.
2. This is what I want to fully understand. I know that xiaomi doesn't release the kernel source, but I also heard that snapdragon socs have public code which help developing ROMs (I am a noob about this, so I'm not sure what I'm talking about).
For example, redmi note 2 kernel source is not public, but other devices with snapdragon socs have more roms and development (for example mi4iand others). The mi4 has even an official CyanogenMod and windows 10.
(3) Bootloader? I know that xiaomi blocks the bootloader of their devices now. If I order the rn3 pro from China, will I get a Chinese ROM or international? (I would love in Italian, but English is good too). Anyway I would request the code to unlock it after a few days/weeks.

There are the kernel sources of other dmartphones wirh helio x10, but we miss the sources of device-specific drivers. So if xiaomi doesn't release the source it will be hard too.
For the bootloader/language question.
You will get the phone with locked bootloader and with the chinese-english rom. The global rom may be release, but it's not confirmed.

Maybe they'll release the driver sources for the 3 Pro as it's being sold in India. Don't know if it has the same hardware, though. Screen, sensors, etc might be different from the RN 2 and 3 in the 3 pro.

Currently using Redmi Note 2 Prime, but with the release of Redmi Note 3 Pro i'm also considering change my phone
I'm also an owner of a RN2 Prime and considering an upgrade to the RN3 Pro. But not immediately, about 6 months from now. This should be plenty of time for these 3 things to happen:
1. The RN3 Pro's price to drop to a stable point
2. Reliable user feedback to be available online
3. Custom development activity to (hopefully) start
I'm going to China in March (10 days, from the 2nd)... If I manage to get one (or two for my friend) redmi not 3 pro 3/32gb for the original chinese price (about 180€), I will definitely buy that. I saw from reviews a big improvement in camera performance, cpu performance, battery performance. And the lovely metal body with fingerprint sensor... I saw photo/video/gaming samples and review here: http://gizchina.it/2016/01/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-pro-la-recensione-di-gizchina-it/ (it's in italian) and I want it so much. Still, I'm scared about the amount of development that the device is going to have.

Face-to-face with Flyme's System Manager

We are going to introduce several important members of Flyme. And the first issue of this series would be----- face to face Q&A with the System Development Manager --- Pony Chou.
Introduction:
Pony Chou, joined Meizu in 2007, is one of the key developers of Flyme. After several years of hardworking and brilliant performance, he became the Technical Director of Flyme in 2013. And this year, after a major department structure adjustment inside Flyme, he is appointed as the general manager of Flyme System Development.
(FF would be Flyme Forum)
FF: Hi Pony, thank you for your time to do this interview. I think most of our forum users are not that familiar with your work, can you briefly describe your work so that they can know a little more?
Pony: OK. Greetings to all Flyme Forum users. As you can see now I am the general manager of Flyme System Development, which means my main job is to make Flyme a better system, to lead the team --- actually we have several teams for different system modules --- to build a system that is more smooth, stable and power-saving.
FF: That sounds an incredibly complicated job. What part did you work on, when you first join Meizu?
Pony: Well, like everybody else, I started with the very basic work, coding, solving bugs... When I joined the project of Flyme, I was in charge of the multi-media part, like music, video, etc. And after 2 years I was shifted to do the system frameworks and apps, and after that I was appointed to supervise this whole Flyme project.
FF: As Flyme's technical director?
Pony: Yes.
FF: So, I got a few questions about Flyme that are concerned by our forum users. The first one would be when Flyme 5 is going to rollout Android 6?
Pony: The new models which will be released in 2016 will all built on Androd 6.
FF: And what about those models before 2016? Will Flyme provide an update?
Pony: I think for previous models, the main task for Flyme is to keep the firmware as stable and smooth as possible. Android 6 has not much modifications or highlights in functions. Some functions sucn as permission control, fingerprint, fast charge, etc are actually already acheived on Flyme 5. If we cannot upgrade to Android 6, we'll do our best to add more features to Flyme to compensate that.
FF: That's really exciting. Then when would Flyme 5 be available for models other than MX5 and PRO 5?
Pony: We actually have done it in Chinese mainland, but for global version, we need to do more testing for compatibility and performance. So please feel assured because Flyme 5 WILL be available for every device after MX4.
FF: So MX4 and MX4 Pro are also getting Flyme 5?
Pony: Yes. It might take longer time, but it will be available for these two models.
FF: As long as we are here, I think many users would have the same confusion as mine: why global version is always way too behind the Chinese version?
Pony: Flyme was not that internationalized before, but as we are getting more and more users around the globe, we have to consider more about users outside China. Thus for every version that is going to be released, we have to test the compatibility first. We got many feedbacks that some apps are not working properly on Flyme, that's the issue we're going to fix here. And also, we need time to translate the system languages.
FF: So will it still be several months gap between A and G versions?
Pony: There will be, but much closer. This year we're trying to release G version only 1 month later than A version.
FF: That's great. Our users will be delighted.
FF: There is another issue related to upgrading. What is the updating cycle for every device model?
Pony: You mean Flyme monthly or weekly firmware upgrading?
FF: No I mean after a model is released, how long will Flyme provide upgrade for each model?
Pony: Well, it is safe to say that we guarantee the updating for each model will at least last 24 months.
FF: So the models get upgrades in at least 2 years. What about the open source issue of Flyme? A lot of users were asking about that, will Flyme be open-sourced?
Pony: The kernel code will be released, but the Flyme part will not be open-sourced. We are an OS with system-level customization, it's not likely to open the source code.
FF: Flyme did adaptations for other brands, will we be doing that in the future?
Pony: Yes, on some popular devices such as Samsung, OnePlus, Mi or other brands.
FF: About the Flyme versions, what's the differences between A and G version, or IN version?
Pony: The system features are basically the same. What's different is the content provided in each version. Right now we have few multi-media content in G or IN version, but we are now contacting international content providers, try to bring more services to our users.
FF: Then compare to other smartphone operating systems, what do you think is the highlight of Flyme?
Pony: The first impression of most users is that Flyme is very light colored, and the visual design is nicer than most of the other operating systems. And for the perfomance, Flyme, especially Flyme 5 is really smooth and some users joked that it's so smooth it does not resemble any previous Meizu or Flyme product. And the features are easy to grasp, users can learn it instantly because the interactions are also very simple but effective.
FF: Thanks for your patient answers, one more, we know that Meizu will be having a launch event in India around April, will we be expecting your attendance?
Pony: I might. Maybe I can be a mysterious guest among all the fans.
FF: Great! Can you say something to our forum users?
Pony: Thanks for continually contributing to this forum and to Flyme. We'll listen to you, and cherish every feedback and suggestion. Flyme will be better! Thank you.
FF: Thank you, Pony.

From the interview I understand that all the devices before 2016 will not have Marshmallow!

A Forgotton Device *Honor 9i*

hi guys i think huwaei is busy in developing its new deices and as a market strategy ,its continue and focusing on new devices. As after 4 months thereis no update for our device and newly launch devices like 9 lite and 7 x which is cheaper in price and have almost same specs as we have.but for themhuwaei have update and our device doesnt getting a face unlock feature.i think its my big mistake to jump from mi to huawei.very slow or say no updates.shame on them.
i feel that we are cheated.
Never too late to sell your phone. I was blinded by the quad-camera hype as well and sold my Redmi Note 4... Now I'm sure as hell am going back to Xiaomi. Took them long to release the Note 5 Pro.
4 months????
Huawei gave Face unlock and AR Sticker just 2 months ago. There's beta testing going for Oreo in some regions. It has highest chances of getting Treble support, it bootloader can be unlocked, TWRP is available. Huawei will likely give it 2 major upgrades (O and P). Even after that you can flash GSI (with Treble support) of latest android (say Q). As Google is modularizing most stuff there will be a time when we can flash latest android version just like we flash latest Windows on old PCs.
If you feel cheated then think about us with a Samsung S8, Note 8 which is high end device and there's no treble support for us. We can't unlock BL (US models). We won't get exclusive S9 features through update (Huawei is giving face unlock through update, EMUI 8).
Still you think it's abandon..

[Tracking updates] EMUi 10 for Honor 8 Pro

I just got EMUI 9.1 update. There are no visual changes - I was expecting dark mode, but na-da. I hope this device gets EMUI 10 update and Huawei includes more phones for OS updates just like how Apple does :cyclops:
The objective of this thread is to share verified updates on EMUI 10 for Honor 8 Pro/ Honor V9.
Not going to happen sorry
None of kirin 960 devices are on list for android Q.

Looks like it's not happening due to the so-called ‘hardware limitations’.
Even Huawei Mate 9, 4 year old phone will be getting emui 10. Official twitter handle of Huawei posted it that development is already under for mate 9. It has same processor as honor 8 Pro, i.e 960.. Don't know why they are not providing it for honor 8 Pro.
Update : Huawei denied the update for mate 9... So nevermind.. Time to upgrade our phone.
Still no ROM with Android 10 right? Wouldn't have been as bad as what. It's a pity that you can't upgrade anymore, since the hardware is respectable
4 years on going strong without any problems!! Man this is such a good phone, it sucks this did not get the love of development. The hardware is pretty good and sure it can run Android 11. Is there really no hope?

Android 10

Do you guys think we will get Android 10 update?
Yup. Asus has confirmed that max pro M1 will get android Q. They made this statement during release of 9 pie.

Its not confirmed and honestly don't keep high hopes.
I remember Asus promising two major updates to ZMP M1 at launch. A Q&A session with one of their official also indicated this. BUT "major system update" cannot be conclusively termed as Android P & Q if we go by the track record of companies. In fact, we have seen brands go back on their solemn promise (Moto ?) only to face backlash and then provide a delayed update.
Long story short - we have a good probability of getting Q but don't bet your life on it - not yet !
yes definitely we will get Android 10 on Pro M1 but in 2020 when google is about to launch android 11....remember android pie released officially by google and asus gave that after almost 10 months passed....with beta program and still too many bugs....we all know that asus camera result is so poor....IT IS STRICTLY NECESSARY ASUS SHOULD COMPLETELY CHANGE THEIR SOFTWARE ENGINEER TEAM OTHERWISE IT WILL LOSE MOBILE BUSINESS...
What about custom Rom development of Android 10, it has been officially launched today.
Here I have found an easy way! Unlock Bootloader Asus ROG Phone 2
If we get android 10 (no hopes though) camera2api will be enabled by default as Google made it compulsory in aosp. Possible?
