There is no way the bootloader can be unlocked currently, the decision was made by the carriers to lock the bootloaders I think as all exynos versions can so there has to be influence from somwhere, that's why the only other sd that can is the Chinese variant.

It doesn't really matter, you'll be using a carrier one way or another. The reason why I say American and Canadian carriers is because China has the snapdragon variant and there bootloader can be unlocked, so influence is coming from somewhere other wise the Chinese variant would be locked also.

[Q] is the bootloader going to be unlocked?

Has samsung announced that they will unlock the bootloader? was the s4 with locked bootloader also?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Verizon may be the only one with a locked bootloader.
I actually don't know... if it's only verizon then that's cool.. i am going to buy the unlocked carrier version.
edit: seeing no custom rom, I thought the bootloader was locked
Yea, I'm pretty sure it's just the Verizon model. Every other model has plenty of roms.

The bootloader is already unlocked. On my phone and most other S5's as well. You are apparently making some assumption about some particular S5 variant. A minority of carriers do lock bootloaders, but you didn't even tell us what model of S5 you have or are referring to. You should give some context so that we know what you are talking about.
edit: I see that you implied in a follow up post that you meant Verizon. The bootloader on a Verizon S5 is locked at the behest of Verizon, not Samsung. Samsung doesn't lock the bootloader for TMobile, Bell, Rogers, Telus or hundreds of other carriers. Pretty much just Verizon and ATT and a few sundry CDMA carriers that are that restrictive.
There are tons of custom ROMs for carriers that are more reasonable. You can use Safestrap to emulate a limited number of ROMs on Verizon but it's your choice of carrier that is hampering you here.
.
ok thx guys I am getting the unlocked/carrier free version .. so should not be a problem thx

China variant bootloader querry

As china is also getting the snapdragon variant, will it be possible to unlock bootloader on those devices, unlike the US variants(yet) ?

Is there any information on when an unlocked US exynos S8 will be availabl for use o

There is a lot of discussion right now about the pre-orders unlocked US version of the phone most likely shipping with a locked bootloader like the S7 did.
Does anyone know when the exynos ones will be up for grabs? Will that be international and compatible with ATT?
You can buy Exynos right now. EBay, Amazon, etc. Or order straight from company in UK that will region unlock before shipping your phone.

Research first, buy second.

Can Lineage OS be installed on a Canadian SM-G950W in 2022?

In the developer options, there seems to be no OEM unlock option to let me install TWRP with odin.
I am currently on Android 9 and Baseband version G950WVLU8CUF3.

No. There is a limited root method, but no, custom ROMs cannot be installed without an unlocked bootloader.
Interestingly enough, the S9 *can* be unlocked (albeit via paid 3rd party service only)

I heard that the Canadian models are the ones that can't be unlocked. I had the same issue with my LG V20 and what fixed it was replacing the Canadian firmware with a US one. Do you think it is possible with Samsung devices?

Firmware is cross-flashable, yes. But that doesn't magically make the device bootloader unlockable.
The OEM Unlock function is removed from all (well, I think there are 1 or 2 exceptions, mostly crappy phones in the A series) USA and Canadian devices
