MIC problem with Google assistant S8 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello.
I have a problem that i can't get my head around.
Bixby voice recognition is working fine.
When i use google assistant "let me talk to Todoist" and it doesn't undrestand me, for 4th or 5th time, the bars in the middle (voice level) show that i am "constanly yelling", meaning that it is recording some loud voice and is not undrestanding me.
After this has happened recordings in voice recorder play a loud static noise.
Tried using both samsung and google voice-to-text engines.
Everything is fixed with a restart or making a phonecall.

Same issue here as well. Super annoying

I have the same issue.
I have the exact same issue as yours. Did you ever have any fix for it yet ?

I have the exact same problem.
Video recording with just white noise yesterday.
Never had the issue before.
And found out others had that problem related to the Google Assistant.
Force closing Google helps out for a while or until you run the Google Assistant again, then the problem is back

Same problem here. Force close Google app resolves it, but 4-5 voice commands later it's the same again. The assistant can't hear what I say. Google assistant is totally unusable on S8 for now, hoping for a fix. I'm investigating the problem but nothing works. If someone know about something we can do, please tell us here!

I have the exact same problem as well...

Happened to me as well. When I opened the Audi Recording app it recorded some disturbing loud white noise. Happened only once, I don't know what the hell it was

I have the exact same problem by using google assistant. Any solutions?

Severe audio/video lag in Snapchat

This just started happening today. When I record a video with the front-facing camera on Snapchat, it plays back with audio and video unsynced. This wasn't happening when I first bought the device.
Any ideas? This was a common problem in the S6. I read that Nu-Player was the culprit in that device, but there's no option to disable Nu-Player in Developer Options in the S7 Edge like there was in the S6. Very frustrating.
UPDATE: After exhaustive online searches, it turns out the culprit is "OK Google" being enabled from "any screen." I have to limit it to just the Google app to get Snapchat video and audio to sync properly. Sucks that I have to limit OK Google but I'm glad that fixed it.
There really needs to be a permanent fix to this though. I have OK Google enabled from any screen on my Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and it doesn't disrupt Snapchat video/audio.
Same issue I was having! Thanks for the information, worked for me. Sucks I can't have "ok google" from any screen though.
Same boat
Yep! Same with my s7, had to deactivate the Google now from every screen and snap works perfectly again.... Maybe (since Google is incredible about fixing bugs) they'll read this and fix it
Ok google and google now
Disabling google now and ok google did nothing at all. Snapchat is still laggy as all hell on both cameras... Frustrating!
am gonna try to dissable it now on my S7 because i was really trying to look for a solution to this, its been making me mad not been able to properly record my videos.
-edit , i tried it and it worked
Ho do you out doing this with OK google? My video and audio do not match up on Snapchat. Will this help?
BUMP! Disabling 'OK-google' doesn't do the trick for me :/ any service that I should disable?
Does anyone know why my snapchat chat voice changer isn't working on my galaxy s7 active? Or have the same problem...

"ok Google" voice detection*Issue

Have a issue with Google now not detecting my voice. It's also present in other apps like maps and YouTube. When I press the mic it doesnt pick up my voice.
I have to restart my phone then seems to work fine.
Any other people with similar issue ?
I just updated yesterday too
It's m on the T-Mobile g6 variant

This is an issue with Google Assistant. Seems to happen every once in a while for some reason, at least it did on my G5 after it updated to Assistance. Retrain the voice model.

I am as well facing the same issue on my G6

I've had this. It's a big where Google thinks the mic is in use. Only fix is reboot that I've found
Either reboot or force close the Google app. Sometimes closing all apps in your recent apps menu works but I just force close the Google app
My "OK Google" voice detection keeps turning itself off in the settings. So I have to go in, turn it on and retrain the voice model. Super annoying.

I saw an article on Android authority that advised users with the "ok Google" voice detections problem to go in to apps and clear all data for the Google app. Then reboot and retrain voice. It worked for me so far.

I've done that and it still happens randomly. Force close the app or wait a little it comes back. I'm like 99% positive it's something to do with either Googles servers or some bug in the app somewhere
Yeah, it's a Google assistant issue. Happens across all three of my devices. My Google Homes have been acting wonky today, too.

I had this issue up until the last update.
Clear the Google app data by going to Settings – Apps – Google app – Storage – Manage Space and tap on Clear all data. Then restart the phone and you should now be able to retrain the voice model. Go to Settings – Google Services – Search – Voice – “OK Google” detection – Retrain Voice Model. The voice command should now work as expected.
Hi,
I also have the LG G6 and unless I literally shout 'OK Google' it will not active Google assistant. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? I have tried everything already suggested.
Thanks,
Sam

Same here.
I have to say ok google at least 6 times before it works.
Its an lg g6 problem...coz on my s8 plus it was perfect.
I have tried everythng to get my mic working again. It work fine if i record video. But calls, and whatspp, skype and other apps cant use the mic. Anyone...I contacted LG and they said they have to fix it? But to me it seems software related.

Google Maps voice volume going up and down?

I have the T-Mobile S8 (G950U with Snapdragon) and I have this strange issue with Google Maps navigation. It's totally stock and not rooted. The volume of the turn-by-turn navigation voice gets soft, then loud, then soft, seemingly at random. Some phrases are spoken loud, then a few minutes later the next phrase is spoken soft. This happens whether I use the speaker on the phone or if I connect to my car's Bluetooth. Has anybody else experienced this behavior?
Seems like no one replied to you sadly. I have the exact same issue. It sounds to me as if they are actually two different sets of recording types. The older and more robotic sounding one seems to not obey the "louder" voice level setting. I have also occasionally had them both start speaking at the same time, or immediately after each other - almost like I had two navigation systems up. It's very annoying, and sometimes causes me to pull over to check proper directions when I am motorcycling and listening inside my helmet with music on as well. This problem has been occurring since my Galaxy S6 and still appears on my S8+. I haven't found any solution yet.
Hi
Exactly the same for me, and it has been for my last few Samsung phones, it really must affect loads of people,
it seem as though one voice is Google and the other is Samsung conflicting with each other
Trev
Did you try to change Samsung text-to-speech setting to Google?
same problem with volume
I have the same problem, with Google Maps using (at random) either a low and a normal volume. Has any of you found out a solution since you posted? Is this a Samsung, Android, or Google Maps issue? (has anyone noticed it with other apps?). Thx! --Dan
I have the same issue on S7. It is not an android issue I think, because I never had anything similar on any other android device. This problem really bothers me and I cannot find a solution. I am using Google Maps almost every day and this issue spoils all my impression on S7 which I bought recently.

Google Assistant not responding to "OK Google"

Hello, I have had my V20 for a couple of months now but seem to have an odd issue with Google Assistant responding to "Ok Google". Basically it does not respond unless the phone is a bout 10cm away from my mouth but when it does eventually respond and starts listening it picks up my voice flawlessly.
I have re-registered my voice multiple times.
Registered my voice from different distances
Wiped the google cache.
Tried it just the stock google launcher.
Excluded google enrolment from the optimised battery settings.
Had a search round XDA and cant find any other suggestions
General phone calls are working without issue.
Phone - H990ds
Software - V10f-TWN-XX
Build - NRD90M
So before I go and wipe the phone any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Hi I've got the same issue have you found a solution yet.
Hi I have the same issue.
Have you always had this problem or is it a recent change?

Microphone Not Working

Hi, I have a strange problem with my Oneplus 8 Pro. After updating to 10.5.10 the microphone is not working for all the apps. I can place calls normally, call using messenger and record videos but it does not work for Google Assistant and the official Recording App or Facebook messenger when recording a voice clip. I even tried it in safe mode but still the same issue. I have also checked that the apps have access to the microphone. I reinstalled 10.5.10 hoping to fix this issue but still the same happens. What can I do? I am also rooted with magisk but I don`t have any new modules that can interfere with the microphone. The phone has previously worked normally with root so I don`t think it is the problem. Does anyone have the same issue?
So you did go all the way back to factory reset correct? If not you're going to have to do that or start uninstalling one app at a time or if you have Titanium Backup you can freeze the apps. I'm sure it's a rogue app somewhere or something got switched in your settings.
I had same problem , i got my problem solved , just blow air on mic at the bottom , and also clean it , issue will be fixed !

Also install magisk module for enabling factory mode and test the mic , go to single mic test , there you test all the three mics seperately , enjoy !
Experiencing the same problem
I'm experiencing the same problem. OnePlus 8 Pro, except it's not rooted or running magisk.
The microphone works for some applications but not for Google assistant at all. I have tried all known fixes I could find by searching. Clearing Google app cache and storage, etc.
Also I find that the first 5 seconds of WhatsApp voice message recordings I make are silent. Not sure if that's related..
Any suggestions?
Hie, even I am facing the same problem. My google Assistant was working well but after I updated, it is not responding also my official recorder app and my Instagram video call works well but videos don't have any sound ...
Have you got a solution to it? Please lemme know I am just too stressed.?

Hey @ananya_arora157. I'm not having an issue with sound playback, just sound recording. Maybe your video sound issue is a seperate one?
Just came here to also say that recently I have had my microphone working in assistant without doing anything. However it's now not working. I have this intermittent issue in other apps too, like DuoLingo. Sometimes when it asks you to speak what has just been spoken to you it works, other times it doesn't.
I'm convinced this has something to do with OxygenOS not providing access to the correct microphone for the app, or the app not using the right microphone. This happens with WhatsApp as well, as mentioned above. Please can someone on the OxygenOS or OnePlus team respond here? I've seen a few comments here and there of this happening to others as well so it's a known issue. It's a real problem with this happening to a flagship phone. Why are we just getting silence in response?
This also happened to me

This also happened to me. All microphone related applications fail for the first 5 to 7 seconds. Then it works normally. Some applications such as Camera, Messenger, ...[/U][/U][/B]
I had almost the same issue but with my last xiaomi. The reset to the factory settings didn't work for me, so I had to change the microphone.
Same here. I can make calls, and voice to text with gboard works.
But hey google, alexa and all other voice recording apps stop working since two days on my op 8 pro
I'm getting the same problem. Anyone found a fix for this?
Exactly same problem here after the OS update
Microphone is working for some apps but not for others. It was working fine earlier but stopped working for phone recorder app and for ok google..any resolutions here?
It seems to be a common issue among many others, so OnePlus team should take it into account and must provide a fix ASAP.
Might be a good idea to state what OS you're all on and perhaps what mods you have installed then maybe a coming fault can be identified.
Also if a custom kernel is installed.
I have the same issue. Phone calls and video recording don't seem to have any problem. Only voice messaging for all apps are error. Go as far as doing factory reset but it still doesn't work.
Any idea how to solve it?
I just bought it for few months and the experience is great except this one.

Yes I found the fix. After all factory resets and downgrading OS didn't worked. So I tried to blow bottom mics from dust and it started working. So stupid but effective.
Has anyone found a fix for this, I recently started having issues.
Stock cam video does not have sound.
WhatsApp cam video does not have sound.
Signal app cam video has sound.
Calls, call records, voice messages have sound.
Google assistant is working.
I am running 11.0.2.2 IN11DA. All issues are there in safe mode.
I cleaned all mics.
Please help.
Well, in my case (and I would bet that in yours too) it is the Google application. Once disabled everything returns to normal. I will have to do tests if it allows to use it by touching the microphone icon in the search bar, but activating the voice command OK Google makes the microphone not work in any other application.
