UPDATE: A guide to rename our /factory partition as /vendor so that you can flash OLDER Android Oreo treble builds! We do not need this guide on Android Pie custom ROMs or for Stock ZUI WE ONLY NEED THIS FOR ANDROID OREO TREBLE BUILDS REQUIRING /factory renamed as /vendor

As you all know that we now have TREBLE, and Zuk-devs are working hard to improve it further so that when the time comes we can move to GSI builds of future Android versions.
Recently, Zuk-devs have renamed the /factory partition into /vendor partition previously we were mounting /factory as /vendor but now it has been converted(renamed) to /vendor partition with this you'll be able to use a Proper Magisk zip, and you don't need a modded/edited Magisk, etc and lotta other kinds of stuff that we will discuss and come to know in the future.

This 'New TWRP' will work for both Latest Treble and Non-Treble RoMs
For ZUI also no need to flash any patch, New TWRP shall work (Needs to be tested)
You can flash Non Treble RoMs and Nougat Builds or other builds with the new TWRP and no patches need to be flashed
Once you flash "factory2vendor" or "vendor2factory" you do not need to flash again unless mentioned in the build
or if you want to revert back to Old Treble RoMs where /factory was mounted as /vendor

Thanks zuk developer

I just tryed to flash Vendor 2Factory_pro..zip but I get following error "failed to mount '/vendor' (invalid argument)". I was in previous version 5.4 (1104). After restart, it does not load the rom but the bootloader. problem is the devices is not recognized under "adb devices" when in bootloader. Any ideas will be very welcome

In bootloader (fastboot) you must use
fastboot -i 0x2b4c
ADB works in twrp or with system . Just follow this guide .

Thanks. I flashed last rom and after that updated twrp with twrp app and now I get no error about partitions.
I thought that to flash a twrp image with adb, I should do into fastboot mode. Can I also do it into recovery or system just with command : fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash recovery twrp.img?
Which guide do you mean? I checked on this thread and could not find a guide about adb.
Many thanks!

You can install twrp.img in any twrp .Just go to install/ install image and choose new twrp.img , then mark recovery and flash it .

I test a lot of systems . Last I was on mokee 7.1.2 with redwolf twrp with vendor partition ( not the latest ) . I install f2v.zip then twrp https://github.com/cosmedd/android_...eases/download/20180413/20180413_recovery.img . After that restart to recovery . Finally install to the latest Aex . No problems at all . First of all start with 2018.03.11 twrp , then install f2v.zip , 2018.04.13 twrp , restart to recovery and install aex or rr . That's all

Hy bro,
Can you send me the twrp version 2018.03.11 link?

failed to mount 'vendor'
After following the previous steps. TRWP start to show "failed to mount 'vendor' (invalid argument)'" message. I'm able to install the AEX 5.4, but the google apps do not crashes.
Any help?
Solved: wrong TWRP.
Nice boot animation

Kernel with buildin Recovery for Xperia Tablet Z Wifi (SGP311)

Hi,
a User in an other Thread here in xda said that i can't flash twrp on my TabZ with the command 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' because there is no recovery partition on the TabZ. All i've tried, flashing twrp 3.x failed. I can install XZDualRecovery, but here the Recovery thinks my Tablet is the LTE version (SGP321) and not the Wifi version. So i can't install custom Roms because if the "wrong" device.
Is there a Kernle with buildin Recovery out there that i can flash on my Tablet? I'll tried LineageOS 14.1 and for that i need twrp 3.x, XZDualRecovery is TWRP 2.8.x. The DoomKernel Downloads doesn't work, instead of downloading the files it opens some pages to casinos and online dating services.

Hello,
All latest custom ROMs have built-in TWRP recovery (3.0.2.0 or 3.0.3.0).
flash boot.img of any latest custom firmware like LA/RR/CR by "fastboot flash boot boot.img", reboot and enter recovery from where you can flash any custom ROM, gapps, etc.
as i've written 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' doesn't work on my xperia device. i've tried this more then twenty times with two xperia tablet z. thats why i'm asking for an alternative. a user here posted that on some xperia devices there is no boot partition so the only way is to flash a kernel with custom rom.
the only way for my to flash a recovery is XZDualRecovery. But here i have the problem that twrp and philz think they are installed on a xperia tablez z lte (sgp321) and not a xperia tablet z wifi (sgp311). i have this problem with both tablets.

I too am having issues flashing a recovery. A lot of the posts are old. There are posts that say to install the newest TWRP on the fota partition but I have not found a good tutorial on how to do that. I can root and unlock the bootloader. Just the dang recovery. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
This post is old but i found a solution. Not for flashing the recovery partition. It fails (command not allowed) despite the bootloader is unlocked.
The solution is first to flash the boot partition with TWRP V3.2 using "fastboot flash boot twrp-3.2.3-0-pollux_windy.img".
Reboot the device and you shoul'd be under TWRP.
Wipe data and dalvik cache (important !)
Using TWRP, install Lineage.
Reboot and Lineage starts.
The problem is that TWRP disapears after installing Lineage because the boot partition is re-formated by the install of Lineage. So, you can't install other Zips, like gapps for example. But what i made was using aptoid and i can do everything i need. The SGP311 under Lineage is a real pleisure except the fact that the IR connector is no more recognized.

You can flash TWRP to FOTA partition, and it will stay there permanently (=forever). Also you can use kernel for LOS with built-in kernel, so you can install zips whenever you want.

Thank you.
Considering the TWRP zip is on /sdcard i used :
adb root (important)
adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/twrp-3.2.3-0-pollux_windy.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/FOTAKernel
And success !

New TWRP is for New Treble ROMs where /factory partition has been renamed to /vendor partition and It is for all the Non Treble Builds
Old TWRP is for Partial/Full Treble ROMs where /factory partition is mounted as /vendor partition
Thanks for the detailed instructions!
I was before on non treble builds and as instructed on AEX thread (Davide recommendation) I flashed Zuk stock ZUI rom (Oreo)
Than I flashed partial treble rom with new TWRP he instructed, and also future full treble roms.
Now I'm on latest 5.4
I once did revert to 5.2 but before that I wiped everything and installed old TWRP and made come back to 5.2
But as new build came out fast with fixes I flashed again TWRP with treble support and flashed 5.4 rom
My question is do I need to do any step here explained or not?
Everything working fine here, TWRP saw and flashed vendor partition.
Thanks for answer in advance
I couldn't understand completely
Im on latest AEX With developers twrp
Should i flash New Twrp first and then the factory package
Or its the opposite
And which factory zip should i flash
To be on the next AEX version
The steps mentioned above applies for the new builds that are going to come.
Now I'm on AEX 5.4 with the treble TWRP from #2...
So with the next build I should flash the Factory2Vendor.zip then a new (official?) TWRP img and then (after a recovery reboot) clean install the new build as usual? @kubersharma

Further can you advice best way to flash Oreo zui and revert back to latest AEX? I assume bootloader gets locked when you flash back to Oreo zui? Do advice.
Will flashing the mentioned zips on AEX 5.4 do any harm ? It's official one and treble TWRP only.

TWRP Android Pie black screen & white led

Hey there all,
I have a OnePlus 5 which is already rooted and has TWRP from here ( sourceforge [dot] net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/15.1/cheeseburger/recovery/twrp-3.2.3-0-20180822-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img/download ) which works. I have OOS 5.1.5, magisk manager and magisk root, OEM bootloader unlocked, basically, all required stuff for root.
I want to update to Android Pie (OOS 9.0.4) but when flashing either TWRP from here ( sourceforge [dot] net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/16.0/cheeseburger/recovery/twrp-3.2.3-0-20190311-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img/download ) or here ( github [dot] com/engstk/android_device_oneplus_cheeseburger/releases/tag/v9.96 ) by booting into fastboot, then doing:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.96_treble-op5_op5t.img
(or other image name)
and then booting recovery.. first oneplus logo, then black screen and white led. On both TWRP's.
So I reboot back into fastboot, flash the android 8.1 TWRP and I can boot into TWRP, but the 8.1 TWRP cannot flash OOS 9.0.4 (error 7), so I need to flash TWRP for android 9, but that TWRP won't boot.
How can I proceed? (without deleting my data/apps, and yes I did make a tar of /data and a TWRP backup of the phone). I know upgrading without wipe *should* possible as I've upgraded from 7/nougat to 8.1/oreo this way (flashing 8.1 twrp, flashing oos 5 zip, wiping cache, reboot - worked fine).

Can not install any Custom rom_ TWRP/OrangFox tested

I am trying to install some custom rom, below roms are tested and no way to done it:
Xtended, Pixel experience, PE, MSMXtended!!!
all of them is not possible to install via TWRP or OrangFox!
after zip installation in recovery mode, the device will be on loop on fastboot and/or recovery and nothing happening on this type of installation!
I tested to sideload system.img, boot.img etc...
any help will be welcome.
You NEED to "Format Data" (not "Wipe" > "/data", it's the "Format Data" button).
EDIT: You may need to install a good firmware too, just follow installation steps of the custom ROM...
Im having the same issue did the format fix it?

Guide for install custom ROM
1- boot to recovery
2- select format and type "yes"
3- reboot recovery
4- now wipe data, catch, dalvik catch
5- install ROM and reboot
** Some ROM work only with global vendor. You must first install vendor zip file with twrp (or vendor img with fastboot comment in your pc/linux/mac)
For example: My Mi 9T firmware is (Russian Gobal). I got error when try install Pixel Experience Plus. I install Global Vender with TWRP, then install rom zip file without any problem. (I am on stock miui with locked bootloader now)

Will this be able to format data on Android 10 encryption like SHRP?
Flashed it from fastboot but doesn't come ,only comes fastboot mode ?
Only Sharp works in 10 properly.

Your not doing it right because everyone else is able to install all recoveries it's only you who is having these issues. Without a proper bug report nobody can help you though

It just won't boot. You can still recover from this by enabling the setting in twrp and reformatting data.
You will lose data regardless of this being enabled because this is only used for formatting data. That's what formatting data does

can I install shrp recovery zip and then miui12...
what I will do is -->
1. install this recovery in b slot through minimal adb
2. boot in twrp
3. install shrp recovery zip file (phone is still in b-slot)
4. change slot to a
5. reboot recovery
6. format data
7. install miui12
8. reboot
will this steps safely boot my device???
hello. first thank you very much for your hard work. i really apreciate.
so, i was on stock rom, freshly unlock the bootloader and flash twrp unofficial for android 10.
then in twrp i flash the zip installer and reboot to recovery.
once again in twrp i, like i'm use to, wipe successfully dalvik/system/data to erased all of stock rom.
then i format data (the one typing "yes" for confirmation) but it broke internal storage.
twrp does not show any file or folders. i rebooti in recovery but it won't show anything
i reflash twrp and the same... nothing.
so i went to fastboot mode and flash shrp, boot up in recovery but it was still not showing files or folders of internal storage. i wipe dalvik/system/data and reboot to recovey.
and this time it show folder but with codes like "QRGHQ9R4HGVUQE4RNG98TH9324HTG923" OR "66EFQ3KFK4TK34KT3K4K34K2KK2" and so...
what do i 'm doing wrong?
can i format data with out breaking internal storage?
the only thing i can do to get internal storage was flash stock rom again, i have not encrypted anything, i don't use microsd card, even i don't use password to unlock screen.
thanks in advance for your comments.

Ok you performed Format > And type "Yes" , actually this will Format your internal storage as well, RIP for your Data now else you took a backup earlier.
Now connect your phone to your PC with data cable , in mount section check if MTP is enabled if not then enable it , now your phone's internal storage shows in PC transfer Rom flash Zip files to internal storage, disconnect from PC and flash that rom.
Recovery choice is yours SHRP or TWRP
Note - Do not perform format > yes before flashing that zip.

Not able to flash recovery
I am on the latest stock android patch, probably that's why not able to flash recovery.
First I tried TWRP 3.3.1-2 Unofficial by Nikesh Kataria from the other post. As it said it supported android 10 with decryption and everything. But it didn't work.
Now with version 3.4.0-0, I am able to boot into recovery using platform-tools. But the files in /sdcard seems to be encrypted (judging by the codes shown instead of readable folder names).
Could someone please help me suggest any recovery which supports latest stock android 10 with decryption?
Is there a way around this?

Decryption will only work if you format data first. This is with every recovery. Has to be a factory reset of stock ROM or fresh install of custom ROM and from then twrp will be able to decrypt if it is installed, you're not installing it either by the way just temporarily installing it to inactive slot which will get wiped on reboot. For twrp to decrypt you must install it using the installer.zip by flashing it in you're temporarily installed twrp.img

Thanks for the help.
But after booting into twrp, how do I install twrp.zip. I even tried sideload that also errors out "Unable to find partition for path /cache".
May be I am missing some step. But here is what I have done.
Unlocked bootloader.
Booted into TWRP on inactive_slot(i.e. slot_b , in my case) with command fastboot flash boot twrp.img
Trying to install twrp.zip (failing at this step itself).

Put the zip on an SD card
Some ROM has some recovery integrated within the OS. If i install that and then the ROM, will the ROM's recovery overwrite this?
