Substratum Alternatives (Oreo) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Are there any alternatives to substratum theming on Oreo? The Andromeda and substratum package is a little too buggy for me , and constantly requires you to connect your phone to a PC upon reboot.
Thanks guys

I've used Substratum too but had problems with the battery, don't know why.
Anyway, i've discovered theme Galaxy on play store (can't link right now) and it lets you customize your phone pretty much.

I use ThemeGalaxy from the app store.

I'm having the same issue...What kernel are you guys using? Is permissive required?
You need to delete vendor/overlay if you previously tried installing Layers. This is what fixed it for me.

Hey man, I saw you had Coalesce and Figlio. I was actually trying to decide which one of those to buy and try for Nougat. If you don't mind, which one do you prefer? Or think works better with N?
Guys N just dropped some most Substratum themes are not working perfectly on N. They can be used but everything won't work perfectly. Also since we are on stock rom we are using Substratum Legacy you need a custom ROM with the oms commits in order to get Masquerade and since N just dropped there aren't any at the moment

Came here to say this. Non of the themes are really compatible with N yet. I tried about a dozen different ones. Ran into issues with apps force closing after applying themes. I had a few crash Documents, a few that would crash settings when you go to change certain settings. Give it a little bit for the themes to update. Might have to wait for the factory images to go live for the 6P. All in all, substratum does work in legacy mode so you need to reboot after changes are applied. Just note that you may run into errors and FC's.
Deity theme works in legacy mode with no issues, using theme ready gapps though

Dark theme for Dialer? ICS style?

Is there any way to dark theme the stock Nougat dialer. It's very harsh on the eyes. I have seen standalone dialers and flashable ones....any other choices?
Thanks!

If you are rooted, you can use substratum theme.
But theming Google apps is a nightmare.

With the Andromeda add-on you don't need root to work with substratum. Just run an ADB command to grant permissions

Works fine on my essential phone running oreo. Do you get an error of any sort
OK...no more Nougat. Now I'm on 8.1 so Hoe the hell do I get rid of the nasty bright blue dialer without resorting to an entire them or adding substratum?

Might just be the theme you're using then. Sometimes some components fail on some themes. You usually have to reboot after compiling the theme and then run Andromeda again and enable the themes after the reboot

Did you purchased Andromeda from play store?
I Just followed the andromeda guide and the status was connected and substratum started right away.
Now I'm currently using Pitchblack Theme and its working flawlessly.
I am using Andromeda only for theming the navigation bar. Did you purchase Andromeda through Google Play Store?

There is no way of using it without buying, and I request you to purchase apps that are paid as it helps the development. Cheers!

Tried right now, same as System Mod, when I try to install an overlay it fail the installation.
Maybe the problem is that Substratum is not compatible yet with the S10? It worked on the S9 with OneUI
Maybe with ThemeGalaxy? Anyone that have the paid versione can check if it works?

From pinned post in their telegram channel:
IMPORTANT NOTICE
On Exynos S8 & Note8 One UI Pie beta builds Samsung has blocked 3rd party overlay installations through the Package Manager. This is a security patch made by Google last year.
Wings Fonts v3 and other theming apps like substratum unfortunately don't work anymore for unrooted users. This is also expected to change in the future for other Samsung devices like S9 & Note9.

I guess no fonts through overlays then...

Substratum on OOS 11

Hey all, currently using rooted OOS 11.0.1.1.IN11AA on OP8P and I've downloaded the Flux substratum theme that I used to use on OOS 10 without any problems. The Dev has mentioned that it is OOS 11 compatible. I have no issues with the system apps, but I get FCs on themed third party apps like Instagram, Youtube, Gmail, etc. Do you guys know of any work-around for this? I just thought it was strange that the system apps worked fine but not the third party ones. I tried applying overlays for those specific apps from another substratum theme that's meant for Android Q but they still FC'ed. This occurred in both light and dark modes.
Any help appreciated thanks!
Can you eliminate those said apps from theming?
I've been looking at substratum theming but was concerned about bootloops or a broken launcher/settings situation.

My understanding is that he is slowly adding better support for apps under 11. I'm using his Liv Dark theme and had the same issues as you for a while. Slowly but surely it's getting better with the 3rd party apps.
I would just turn it off for the apps that are force closing for now. Make sure you are using subs lite as well.

So does this allow theming of system settings? Quick settings etc??
I don't mind apps so long as they can be whitelisted

How can you boot twrp? In Android 11?? There is no twrp for OnePlus 8 Pro on 11.
You would have been forced to MSM or wipe your system

Do you know if themeing the notification shade background is possible? That's the only thing I need to theme since OOS11 has an ugly grey color in dark mode. I want to make it black
