[ROOT] Enable ALL Lock Screen Lock Options - Fire General

I have been trying to find a way to reactivate the full options for the lock screen. There is a way to do it with root access, by editing the settings menu...I just haven't found a way to do it yet. With that said, I have found an Activity Launcher that runs with ROOT access and have also installed it into /system/priv-app. In doing so I have been able to find the settings to enable ALL the lock screen lock options. In addition to the PIN number and SLIDE to lock methods, you also get to:
- Enable lock pattern
- Enable lock password
- Disable lock screen
In order to activate these options, you have to be rooted. However, these are items I believe reside somewhere on the Secure Settings level (system, secure or global). Amazon just does a good job of hiding these settings and the launcher application is the only one I have found that is able to access these options. If you don't have root access, you can still visually see the settings fragment. I do believe this feature can be enabled without having a rooted tablet. If the right fragments can be found, the activity could possibly be launched via ADB or ADB shell. It's also possible another activity and intent type launcher can perform these actions.
1. Download, install and open 'Activity Runner' from the play store.
2. Scroll the list until you see 'Settings' and tap on it. Scroll down the list further, until you see the SECOND 'Unlock Selection' item. It will be in listed as red and the fragment/activity/intent below it will say '.ChooseLockGeneric$InternalActivity'. Tap it.
3. Profit!! :highfive::good::victory: These tablets are so much fun to 'hack.' Thanks again for following everyone! :highfive:

Not yet. This launcher won't tell me the fragment so without that I can't tell what the intent is aka android:action. I'm going to have to search the source code for this one.

Just ran the unlock method on my 5th gen, installed the revamped Fire OS rom and Magisk. Now trying to remove the lock screen. Got Activity Manager from the above link but cannot find the option for the lock screen (other than the pin/password) and do not see "Unlock Selection". Any ideas? Is it maybe under a different category on this OS?
Thanks for this!

This will work until amazon sends another update that breaks root if on stock rom. After, you'll have to do these steps again after re rooting.

This shouldn't be in development, it should go in general.
For some reason I'm not able to get to the data/data/com.android.settings/files point. It should be easy to get to, but it's not.
I'll keep looking. I'm fairly new to all of this.
I found this in another thread...
1- browse to "/data/data/com.android.settings/files"
2- change "wallpaper" permissions to be writable
(in ES file explorer: if the directory is empty make sure you checked "root explorer" and "mount file system" in the settings)
Unfortunately it would not allow me to make these changes.
This is my guide for changing and keeping wallpapers on rooted stock with any launcher...
Step 1: change your wallpaper to what you want it to be.
Step 2: hurry to your computer (without turning your fire off).
Step 3: connect your fire to your PC.
Step 4: go into KFU and go into extras, then choose lock wallpaper.
Step 5: you are done! Good luck.
Is "KFU" Kindle Fire Updates? If it is, I don't even have an "extras" folder.
KFU is Kindle Fire Utility, you can download it in the development thread of this forum

Update to Android 8: two issues (do not disturb + unknown sources)

Just updated to 8 and...
... When I select "do not disturb" icon the options do not show any longer: gotta slide down fully notification bar and click on small arrow next to icon
... When using vume keys the do not disturb option s are not shown, even if enabled from settings
... Cannot install anymore APK from unknown sources from solid explorer, must use downloads
Thanks
For Solid Explorer, go to its App Info Page. Look for Install Unknown Apps, set to Allow.

Yes, this I know, but under Solid Explorer info I cannot find the "Install Unknown Apps" option, not even under Advanced.
This has changed in Android 8: has moved from system wide to app specific, so i believe the developer has to update app by adding a subscription to the service.

very very strange!!!! I have the same version...
did you install from scractch or from OTA?
tried uninstalling and installing again and clearing cache, to no avail...
Are you using the " App Viewer " on Solid Explorer, or the Package Installer?
Also, are you missing that entire option in the screenshot above?
"Are you using the " App Viewer " on Solid Explorer, or the Package Installer?"
What do you mean?
Under ADVANCED I only have "modify System Settings" and missing "Install Unknown Apps"
Ok problem solved... This was tricky...
I opened SE, selected an APK by long press, then OPEN WITH and I got a choice between APP VIEWR and PACKAGE INSTALLER, chose PACKAGE INSTALLER and got prompted to enable unknown cources for SE, enabled it and now option is there...
Thanks

Retail Demo Mode - RDM

I was contacted by a user who discovered a 'secret code' that applies to the FireOS search bar (Unified Search). When you type it into the search bar, you enter retail demo mode.
Code:
;demo
There are several major problems with this once you enter it. One: you can't get out. You can resell the device when you're done, but one of two things happen: On the fire 7: it powers off your device, reboots it and erases it. Then it reboots...into a logo loop. Fire HD 10: When you resell, your screen is blocked by an amazon logo overlay. It just sits there. You can reboot and the overlay remains. You can't disable it through ADB on either of them it doesn't do you any good, because you stay in demo mode. I forgot to mention the countless demo apps it tries to download. This code also worked on the HD 8, but I didn't go past the splash screen. Only way out is a factory reset via recovery.
I got a screen cap of the debugging menu. There is an application version have never seen before. Is this the retail mode application version? If not, what is it? No the device is not registered.
Code:
1.1.906.0-tablet_424010

Yes I think it is the retail demo application (see attached)
In the secure settings table, there is a setting called retail_demo_mode. I once changed the value to 1. The tablet itself worked fine, but most of the settings were missing and all of the app icons on the home screen reset to alphabetical order. All I did to reverse this was go back into Settings Database Editor and change the value to 0. No problems after that, other than my neatly organized apps that got rearranged.

You want to got rid of this lock screen?
Using Activity Launcher:
1. Install Activity Launcher from Google Play or APKPure
2. Open Activity Launcher
3. Scroll down, select Settings and find the activity Settings$ScreenLockSuggestionActivity
4. If in lock screen settings, select None
Or if didn't find, try another way:
Disable via ADB:
1. Enable ADB in developer options
2. Connection your Fire tablet to your PC
3. Enter this command
Code:
adb shell
settings put secure lockscreen_disabled 1
4. Reboot
Code:
adb reboot
Or you want to watch a full tutorial on YouTube:
Disabling it via adb didn't work for me on Fire HD 10 2019.
Setting Keyguard to off in Tasker works for about a day. Running the task on device boot, you may need to wait a few seconds, and then running it every few hours should keep it off.

That did the trick, tried the adb thing before but it didn't work.
activity launcher helped me to get rid of the lockscreen. Unfortunately, I tried the ADB command before, this did not work and either disabled the activity entry. So i had to revert the ADB command with value 0. But anyway, thx a lot for the hlp here in the forum.

For what it's worth, this is a copy & paste which is my solution for non-rooted devices:
I use the Gravity Screen app on a non-rooted Fire HD10 (2019) which uses motion to unlock/ wake up the device which you can get here.
I have the app set up to "Turn Screen ON by Motion" and under it's "Special Settings", I have "Disable Lock Screen" checked:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
What worked for me on my 8th gen HD 8 was:
Step 1: Disable screen unlock in the official system settings:
Step 2: Run this:
Code:
adb shell locksettings set-disabled true
I got some error messages from locksettings once when I was trying this. If that happens to you, try this more elaborate version:
Code:
adb shell
settings put global LOCKSCREEN_AD_ENABLED 0
settings put secure lockscreen.disabled 1
locksettings clear
locksettings set-disabled true
exit
Interestingly, after a reboot LOCKSCREEN_AD_ENABLED goes back to 1 and lockscreen.disabled goes back to 0, but the lockscreen stays disabled.

which is sold under various names from vendors @AliExpress.
I'm trying to match this unit with one of the threads here and it seems like no one is dealing with it, but I may have missed some relevant posts, can you please help me with that? Or maybe you know about other forums where they discuss the unit...
The device has several issues (bottom line: do not buy it, the hardware is okish but the software is horrible) and I'd really like to explore ways to customize it but I'm not even able to connect to it via adb, let alone become root or install a custom firmware...
Seem like no one heard of it. Bad luck.
I'm trying to gain root access and fix some of the bull***, but I'm running short of options.
What I know so far:
Invoking "su" from the command line (or via adb) returns a "not allowed" message;
I have no firmware to patch with magisk;
the amazing temp root does not work, the device is patched.
What else could I try?
I may try the MTK Droid Tools, but I think they use the same exploit used by the amazing temp root so I guess this is not a solution. Moreover they need Windows and I can't connect to the unit with adb in windows, only with Linux (heavens know why, the Universal ADB Drivers says it's all "ok" but adb does not see the device).
Did you get anywhere with it? I just got 825x_pro for my R56 Mini.
Nowhere. There seem to be some info in the 4pda.ru forum (in russian) but I did not dig deep into into.

Hi,
You have to go to:
- The settings
- "Car infotaiment" and click in the high right corner on the "cogwheel" and you get a little window where you have to type the numbers (example: 5678; 8888, ....etc ) And you get the hidden menu !
