New fire tv help with apps2fire - Fire TV General

I recently bought a new fire tv presume it's a gen3 without looking it's running 6.2.1.2 I'm trying to get the apps2fire to side load ott player and swiftstreamz, the apps are irrelevant really as I cannot get the app to connect properly to the ftv, I first attempted while watching a film in terrarium where the app on my phone told me it could not do this as I'm running a movie player (I'd forgotten this occured on the firestick too) I had to close the app to get control of the remote back.
Now after this I get constant errors in the app on my phone saying cannot connect to ftv usually mentioning a Java error, apps2fire sometimes finds my ftv and recognizes it as so and sometimes it just finds the MAC address and ip under devices ta either way it does not connect and fails to side load the app.
Oddly also in my router there appears to be 3 different android Mac addresses with different ip's (one of which is only seen by apps2fire) but all 3 can only relate to my ftv, I have restarted the ftv, phone, and router several times I've made sure they are both in the same network 2.4ghz (ftv will not see the 5ghz and I also do not know why).
Is there a way to backup my current setup on the ftv for a factory reset? I really don't want to have to reinstall everything after a factory reset if I don't have to?
All help and advice really appreciated thanks..

Semi solved it by using Es file explorer, and changing the channel in my router for 5ghz ..

[Q] Help! My acer A500 no longer accesses the Internet

Guys a week ago I bought my acer a500 Iconia yesterday I updated it to version 3.1, it was fast hands, much improved, I turned on my wifi connected it more often when I was browsing it does not access the Internet more and more strange I I can even access my router. Then I saw in that topic if you give it a reset back 2x the wifi to work properly. The more I did it and did not work, so I found the website of acer patch to fix the problem, I used more problem remained, so I downloaded another update.zip to update it to version 3.2, more el is still with the same problem does anyone know how to solve this?
First thing I'd do is try a hard reset the device..see where that takes you. Have you tried other routers, or tried connecting a different device to your router (to make sure it's not a router issue...)? If not, try restarting your router and modem first.
I take it you're running stock/not rooted?
I use the stock 3.2 ROM, I think the problem is the router, I used a program to use my laptop as a router and it worked, but not yet tested on a real router, but I think it's IP.
had this to
I had this when I bought my tablet (back when it had 3.1).
as fast as I got home and tried it the first time all networks around me could be found except for the one in our house.
I did a factory-reset on the tablet but it didn't work.
then i did a factory-reset on my router (since I lost the admin password). this seemed to work and after reïnstalling the ISP's things it functioned completely again.
I would suggest you change the channel of your wifi, the protection and retype the SSID.
also clear the logs and the firewall blocks.
If you retried connecting with these instructions leave a message here with your results
i try make what you says, but dont workink , my probleme is my router...

[Q] Can't connect to Nexus Q after initial configuration [SOLVED]

Hello,
I bought a Nexus Q off eBay and it came in today. I got it plugged in to my TV but after the setup was completed, I'm unable to connect to the device through both my phone and tablet. The TV just outputs a blue circle. In the Nexus Q app, it has "Living Room" and underneath "Not available". When I try the "Update Network" option, it's unable to find it via Bluetooth although it sees it in the bluetooth device list as "3 Nexus Q" (#0099cc-#0099cc)
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 running CM10.0.0 and my tablet is an Asus Transformer tf101 stock image (v4.0.1 iirc). I've even reset my router, an Asus RT-N12B1.
I've tried flashing with the factory image provided here developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#tungsten
and still nothing. I can reinstall the app and factory reset the device and go through the setup successfully, but once it's done, it doesn't see it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Did I just buy a pretty paperweight?
Did you happen to try and reset the Q power the orb on and place your palm over the touch sensor. The ring should turn red hold your hand on it until the ring turns blue and release. It should now be reset to factory setting and you can try and repair with the phone.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yep, I've done that. I'm going to take it to work to see if it's my WiFi to rule one more thing out.
EDIT: Tested at work on a different WiFi and it's the same result.
I had this same issue.
I fixed it by removing the device from my account via the app on my phone or tablet.
A simple reset of the app won't remove it since it is tied to your Google account.
After successfully removing the Q from my account, I cleared data for the app, and restarted my device.
Before I repaired it to the Q, I preformed a reset on the Q by placing my hand over it and plugging in the power cord.
Lastly I repaired the Q with my device as if it was a brand new device.
I noticed that there were problems if trying to do an initial pair with 5GHz WiFi. I had my phone connected to the 2.4GHz band when I pro formed the pair.
I don't believe the Q supports the 5GHz band, so don't try to pair with it.
You can shift to it on your phone or tablet after you pair, but if you don't have a 2.4GHz network connected to the Q, it won't see your devices once paired.

Some routers have a firewall built in that doesn't allow devices to talk to each other through the router, which the Q requires. I can also set mine up at work, but because of this firewall (which most workplaces implement) i couldn't actually play with the Q. Are you familiar with the "ping" command? In your tablet and your phone you should be able to find your ip addresses, hopefully something like 192.168.1.102. if you get an app from the market (terminal emulator will do i believe) try pinging one device from the other. Even if its successful you shouldn't see anything on the pinged device, just a response from the pinged device on your pinging device. If this says "response timed out" or something similar your devices cannot see each other across your wifi, and thusly not see each other once the bluetooth connection is terminated after initial set up.
If that doesn't work I'll buy it
brain dump on Q connectivity
Connectivity is a problem with the Q no question - but once you finally get it connection it's fine. I have 2 of them, and one seems to work much better than the other for some reason.
Here are some things I've done to troubleshoot these issues (some of this may be completely unnecessary but it works for me)
1 - Completely uninstall music, youtube, play movies, and nexus q app from your phone. It seems like this actually has some impact although I'm not sure why.
2 - Factory reset the Q - do this by placing your hand over it and then unplug and plug the q back in. Eventually it will do a factory reset.
3 - Check if your router supports DD-WRT by typing your model number in here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
If it does flash it! This was the single biggest improvement in connectivity I observed but this might just be an issue with my specific router.
4 - Try again and again and again. I've seen it not connect to the Q the first 25 times and then suddenly work. Ridiculous.
A note on DD-WRT - I am using a DLink DIR-615. I constantly have connection issues and also 'there was a problem with the network' when trying to play youtube videos at times. I tried tweaking settings in the router for hours and finally flashed DDWRT on my router. As soon as I did, the network connection errors went away and it seems to have made connectivity much better as well.
It's working! Thanks, everyone!
I flashed DD-WRT on my router, something I've been meaning to do for a while. I uninstalled the Nexus Q, Google Video and Music apps, and the updates for Market and Play Services on my phone. Factory-reset the Nexus Q and finally reinstalled just Nexus Q app, and let it prompt me to install the other apps. It worked the first time. I'm certain it was the router firmware as I've done everything else before.
I'm having similar issues. I've been trouble shooting now for a few hours and I have a headache from it all. Factory resets, uninstalls, nothing. I download terminal emulator to ping a packet and it looks good.
Sometimes the "My Home" collection is found sometime it's unavailable. When it's showing unavailable I click on the notice, and then click more, and it immediately says "the collection has been found on the network".
My bedroom nexus q is not available. I hate networking ****. I'm beginning to understand why they killed this thing, it's a shame it looks so beautiful.
Well I called the nexus support hotline, and they are all but incompetent. "If you tried a master reset and it's still not working the unit must be defective." The guy also tried to tell me the "My Home" collection was my wifi. I'm thinking about just throwing it back on ebay.

Netflix connection issue on Sony Google TV

I have a NSX-46GT1 & have had no issues with it at all. About a week or so ago I started having connection problems with the Netflix app. Now, I've done the usual cleaning cash/killed process/even reset the whole TV. My other apps like YouTube & Chrome work fine. Now here's the interesting part; if I change router ports or switch to WiFi it will connect fine. It will only have issues as long as I don't close the app out or keep it idle for too long.
I have exhausted all possibilities from the router by opening it up as much as I can (disable firewall etc.) Even tried changing the DNS ip's bit still come across the same issue. The TV is not rooted & I cannot find a working Netflix apk atm, any ideas guys?

Losing SMB shares for Shield/Plex Server

Every night the Shield will lose its connection to the SMB shares that my home server is feeding media content to my Shield/Plex Server. I've used these same SMB shares on Kodi(XBMC) for years. They work, I verify that they are still working after Shield/Plex loses connectivity to them with other devices; all access the shares without issue.
A reboot will instantly reconnect the shield to the SMB shares without any configuration changes, only to be lost again the next day.
Any/all help greatly appreciated.
Create an account on geforce forums, send feedback from the shield's seetings, including your geforce forum nickname on it, and create a thread there to report this problem. This is probably a bug with the nvidia's smb client application specifically.
I've been working with an Nvidia rep via their nvidia.custhelp.com So far the rep has been pretty useless:
"This could be an issue related to the network configuration." Umm yeah, 13 other devices wired and wifi working flawlessly
"Unplug all the cables and keep the SHIELD ATV off for good 2-3 minutes. Plug the Power cable, Ethernet cable and the HDMI cable. See if the issue persists." I realize rep has a SOP checklist to go through... But it just exacerbates my frustration!
I'm considering just finding a way to auto-reboot nightly until a real fix has been released. That or just transfer my media to a large USB HDD, keep a mirror on server which will be an extra backup I guess.
I finally got another response from them. They re-asked me the same exact questions... So glad I asked for their assistance.
Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same problem.
No, I did not. Since the last update it happens less frequently, but it does still happen.
I'm building a new home server that I will be transferring my Plex server to once completed.
Hi there, I had the same problem with my Nvidia Shield TV, SMB didn't work propperly.
The solution that worked for me was:
In Windows I created a new local account. Then I shared the folders I wanted to share withe the new account. After that SMB (Samba) was working fine on the Shield (I had to enter the accountname and password of the new account in Kodi).
I have this problem as well with Synology NAS. Anyone else using Synology?
I have the same probleme but i find the answer. disconnect your server on remote access and never push claim server. My plex on my shield reconnect automatic.
I had similar issues and what helped for the last week (fingers crossed still) was (on my router):
- Wifi "Group Key Rotation Interval" set to 28800 (8 hours). Not sure if this is the main solution.
- "Force as Master Browser": Yes, this makes my router the netbios master browser (maintains list of network names), this might be the actual solution.
I have an asus router with merlin firmware

Sorry to bump this thread, but I have the exact same issue.
Plex on my Shield 2017 Pro will lose the connection it seems to my Synology NAS after 12-16 hours it seems.
Since I also have an ASUS with Merlin firmware, I was curious if your fix helped?
Hi everybody, I have a similar problem with my new nvidia shield tv pro (2017).
I successfully connect to my Synology NAS (DS214play) media share and get all my movies in PMS library. But after reboot the Shield, the SMB share is gone!
I can't play any movie, before I manually reconnect to NAS.
Furthermore while plex can't play any movie (it says that the files are not available) other applications like KODI or Network Browser work perfectly, ie they are able to see the folder in to the NAS.
Any news!!!!

Recently I requested assistance to NVIDIA Customer Care, and I show you their reply below:

Hello Harish,
thank you too!
My NAS is connected by ethernet gigabit to the shield, and I have 2 HDD of 3Tb each connected as JBOD volume.
Best regards
Gianfranco
PS: if of interest I can act as betatester for larger disks, since I have ordered 2 HDD of 6Tb each for the Plex server on the new shield. After what you said, I’ll connect them has BASIC volume, do you agree?
Response By Email (Harish) (02/19/2017 10:41 AM)
Hello Gianfranco,
Thank you for the reply
This NAS is 8TB in size and it works on wireless technology, we recommend only maximum 4 TB HDD for this SHIELD TV and we have not tested wireless NAS device for the SHIELD and we cannot assure you that it will work, Please get in touch with us, if you need further assistance and I would be happy to help you

Hello Harish,
the model is DS 214 play, you can see details below:
Synology DS 214 play
I can’t send a screen shot because today after a full reset the shield was definitively bricked.
I forget to tell you before that the shield it often freezed and that forced me to do a reset.
Best regards
Gianfranco

Two things.
1. This is not happening to me since the 5.0 upgrade. Not sure if it is coincidence or not
2. Maybe more important, it is not happening since I reinstalled DDWRT on my router which performs a type of local dns, similar to WINS, but for all devices, windows computers, macs, androids, HDHomeRun, . So, when my Synology comes online as "SPACE", I can always "ping space" from any device and it "just works". It's kind of magic to me, as I used to build DNS forward and reverse services, DHCP servers, RAS gateways, RADIUS, and so on, etc. No idea how this works so well.
So, my R8000 router, (and my prior R7000) have these DDWRT settings
Use DNSMasq for DHCP
Use DNSMasq for DNS

I think these are what makes everything work amazingly.
So, for everyone with a NAS, can you just ping by the machine name?
If not, I think you will have to set you DHCP to fix the IP for certain devices, at least the NAS.

Voice commands via google assistant no longer working after switching out router

I replaced my old Tp-link archer c59 with an orbi mesh system. I use to be able to say commands to my google home like ''launch netflix on shield'' and it would work. After switching out the router, I just get ''I dont know how to do that yet''. I still see the shield in the google home app. Im still able to control it through the google home app with the ''play music'' function so I know its still linked. Casting works fine. If I set the shield as my default speaker, my hub will play music directly to the shield. Whats confusing is that its defiantly linked up.
Things I tried already are clearing data on google play services and chromecast built in on the shield. Clearing data on the google home app on my phone.
Side note: The shield is also no longer discoverable on a windows PC. I use to be able to access it under ''network''. I tried disabling and enabling sharing on the shield already.
Update. I was finally able to fix this issue after a month. I turned offer IPv6 on the shield, a now GA is able to launch apps with voice command. My PC is also able to see the shield under network. Ive always had IPv6 enabled before switching to the Orbi system and never had a problem. Not sure why a newer router would screw everything up.
However, there are couple of new problems Ive encountered. Casting from my PC lasts for a second and the picture freezes while the sound continues. Second, I can no longer connect to the shield with my phone or tablet with file manager apps. I can still connect to it with my PC just fine.
