How's the overall performance? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

hi guys I'm getting the g6 870 unlocked for 260$. I just wanted to confirm if it's worth it? does it lag? How's the camera performance and most importantly is that how's the battery life? Is it as bad as LG g5? Please tell me no! I'm using Xperia x currently and it gives me like 5-6 hours sot. how's the speed n battery of g6? Thanks

The performance on mine for the first day was pretty rough as I think everything getting set up and downloaded had an affect on performance. Also, the carrier chose to set it and move files from my iPhone which pissed me off a bit. I haven't gotten around to setting it up new but I will say now about 48 hours into it, it's running a lot better. I think I will actually factory reset and set it up as new though at some point.
You're not going to get the smoothest phone compared to something like a Pixel but it's a great phone for the value. I got mine at $150 so you can't beat that. On Wifi you can easily get 5-6 hours SOT. On 4g probably an hour less.
A couple things I'd recommend:
- Download Gcam - much better pictures and Portrait mode
- Download Nova Launcher and turn that **** into a Pixel!

After few minor updates it does not lag at all. Battery is good when comes to Wifi , but on LTE network it performs poorly.Bluetooth is also bugged. I hope we will finally recieve Oreo and that may solve all existing problems and make LG great again.

It's the other model but it's through Cellcom, a local carrier in Wisconsin. They had a special deal!

You won't be getting anywhere close to decent performance in any graphically-intense game on this phone without messing around with Game Battery Saver and ADB. Everything else is pretty snappy to me.

I do think I may need to look at a fresh restore. I'm pissed that the guy in the store used the mobile switch. I'm just too lazy to do it. The phone is working pretty well but there's been a slight lag here and there that I think I could eliminate if I started things over.

Don't do it!!!

[Q] Is this the best phone for 400€?

As the topic title says, i'm looking for a new phone to replace my boring xperia s (bootloader loocked...) and the maximum i wanna spend is 400€. So,for this money the oppo find 5 is the best option? The feature that i most apreciate is taking photos, and my xperia s do it very well...

The camera is OK but nothing amazing in my experience which is fine for me and Faux kernel has done wonders my battery life (+30-40%). Not sure the camera can compare to the Xperia.
Despite those niggles, I'd recommend the F5 above others to friends if asked but it depends on your needs. I certainly prefer it over the Note 2 and Nexus 4. For me is the sweet spot between size, screen, performance and design.
What else is on your short list?

Exactly the switch I made XS->Find5. I thought about getting the HTC One or the S4, but since I planned on running a custom ROM, I didn't want to pay for features I wouldn't use anyway.
Regrets? No. The Find5 has a Sony Sensor as camera, AFAIK the same as in the XZ. On stock ROM, the cam is pretty good, not so much on custom ROMs, though, usual closed source binary blob problems.

Hi!
If you are looking a brand new one, maybe this is the one with best camera for this price (I dont know anything about Nokia and WP) you can buy for that amount.
If you dont mind, maybe you can take a Xperia Z (same sensor, but better app) in the second market.
P.S: Yes, this is my first post in about 3 years LOL! (I prefer reading)

at the beggining i was thinking about xperia z (i'm a huge fan of the xperia line) or htc one (i don't like the samsung plastic), but i reconsidered that ... 550€ or more for a phone? i think it´s to much, so i stablished the 400€ limit, and for that money, and new phones (not used) i'm in between nexus 4 or the oppo find 5 ( i believe they are the only with superb specs and not so expensive phones ). But the nexus 4 is 4.7 inch screen, and an 8mp camera ( but i guess the 8mp i just a number).
3 things that i consider in a phone : camera; battery; development.
So, what you guys say?
If camera is a priority then you may be better looking elsewhere.
The Find 5 camera is OK in good light but struggles otherwise. My wife has a Nexus 4 and I don't rate that camera either.

I agree the Oppo is nothing to get mad excited about. The camera is very noisy. Actually in HDR mode my pictures on the Nexus 4 turned out way better!

Never had the chance to compare to a Xperia S.
But for the claims made by their commercial it doesn't live up to the promise.

I too am interested in this phone, one of my main concerns is battery life.
When you say you have about 30-40% more battery life, how many screen on time are you talking about? 5-6 hours?
Thank you.

Well you can forget the Stock firmware even with fauxes Kernel it will suck you dry. The best experience as far as battery life i had so far was with Cyanogenmod. Even so it is not running an optimized Kernel it seems to handle power mangement way better!
5-6 hours screen on is way over what you will be able to achieve with normal day 2 day use. For sure you will max out at the moment at 4 hours screen on time.
If you are looking for a new phone with lot's of battery life i would hold of another 1-2 month and see what others have to offer because Oppo didn't even release 4.2 yet but they are planning on in early August. Until then don't bother!
so, in conclusion, despite the problems with the camera ( which i think it's a software problem, not hardware ) for 400€, and with a custom rom, the oppo it's the best phone on the market?

stock camera and stock rom only thing i've done is root and kill the stock launcher, thats it no editing on those either straight out of the phone in full res.

Sorry just saw this... I've tried most of the stock/beta ROMs and as a light to moderate user, it lasts me about 24-36 hours. Without faux kernel I would get around 3 to 3.5 hours screen on (email, twitter, browser, Tapatalk, watching a TV show, taking pics/video and a few calls).
With faux setup for battery life, I can get 4.5 to 5 hours doing the same stuff and there isn't really a performance hit as I'm not doing much needing the phone to run at full speed for long.
It was really the idle drain that was killing it at around ~1.5%-2% per hour rather than ~0.8% with faux. Usually, I'm on wifi and have GPS on and leave them on when sleeping so it was overnight that saw a big improvement.

Yeah I used Stock to for a while and when you do close ups the camera makes some pretty nice pictures. But as soon as contrasts aren't really there anymore it gets potentially noisy.
I mean how much can you really expect from a smartphone camera sensor without any optics to adjust depth.
Your pictures are nice. I made some nice ones myself but they don't measure up to HTC One's Ultrapixel contrast and light condition abilities.
Funny part about all of this is probably that drivers neither on Stock or Custom are really optimized.
I do though still think the state the phone is in right now it is not worth it. Neither Stock Software nor Custom give you a really great experience with the device right now.

After trying numerous stock and custom ROM/kernel combinations, I have to disagree. Last week's Chinese Firefly is, IMO, very usable in terms of performance, battery life, and reliability.
I posted some findings here:

[Q] Coming from a Nexus 4, will the switch to the G2 be a good thing?

I've had my nexus 4 since it launched in late 2012, is been great but I can't put up with the bad battery life anymore. Even under clocked it, changed kernals, used other ROMs then coming back to the latest stock. Nothing I did could improve it without significantly crippling the phone performance to the point of making it unusable! But besides that, it's been a nice slick device, bit on the simple side but it delivered
Anyway enough on the nexus 4, I'm getting a refurbished G2 tomorrow, paid an amazing price for it same as the nexus 4 when I bought that.
Is there anything I should know our expect coming from someone who is very used to stock android, and the nexus 4 in general hardware side? Have I got lots to look forward to, or should I keep my expectations low and for those that come from the same device as me and now own the g2, let me know!
It will be good I also switch from nexus 4

Also switched from Nexus 4,got Phone now for a week, very happy with it, still on stock 4.4.2 rom, rooted and using xposed, great battery life and Realy smooth
I was thinking of installing the Nexus 5 based rom you can find in the development section, but I am happy with the stock rom

I agree, I think G2 is perfect size though. Anything bigger is just too much.
Thanks for the replies! Will do a quick review of it when I get it in the morning or late at night after I come home from work, well see when the postie arrives hah. Been really looking forward to it! Will I miss the build quality of the Nexus 4?
G2 stock is fast and responsive. The custom roms make it all the more smoother.
I used to do all the tweaks to conserve battery in my previous phone, in G2 I'm just trying out all the new roms, not worrying about not having enough battery at all. The focus has turned to performance, since battery is no longer an issue

I came from a Nexus 4 as well and I find the G2 better in every way...there is no comparison it's in a different league. The only thing I miss is the quick OS updates.
I wasnt sure how I would like running a phone with it's own spin on the UI, and had intended to flash a ROM with a more Nexus type experience, but I actually really like a lot of the extra features that LG has baked in to the OS.
Cheers,
Faugly

Came form a Nexus 4 as well. Had the G2 months now, and it is by far a better phone. I kind of miss the glass feel of the Nexus, but it's a very minor whinge is that.
As for first thing to do with it . . . . Set it up, and run it in, may as well leave it completely stock to see how you like that first. Then start tweaking, Nova launcher + Root + Custom Recovery + Xposed + Custom Kernel + Xdabbeb camera mod. I've got all that done, getting around 40-46 hours battery life with 5-6 hours screen on time at 60% brightness permanently and plenty of normal usage and still have 5% battery life left. If I was a very very light user, getting 3 days out of it would be easy.

Awesome, thanks for the tips! I'll run it on stock for a day or 2 then But I'm sure I'll be itching to try all the mods that you listed hah. I just discovered that it weighs almost the same as the Nexus 4?! Amazing phone really Hurry up ParcelForce and bring it to me, this is my day off work, don't let it go to waste lol.

I will admit that even though I stayed completely stock for ages, as in using lg launcher etc, I always disable things like qslide and all the other things they added, apart from knock on obviously, as that is now something I couldn't live without.
Alright got it I've played around with it for about an hour, messing with settings and setting up my accounts on various apps, all ready to go.
First impression is wow, its beautiful Such a nice screen! And it actually feels lighter then my nexus 4 because of the weight distribution of it in your hand, its spread out more across your hand so it feels lighter then it really is. Great job LG! I do miss the glass feel a tiny bit, I don't mind the plastic feel to be honest, I have dry hands so it actually has a good grip compared to glass for me! I realise I need root already though, because of my precious Titanium Backup going to figure that out next!
Overall first impressions of the hardware and software is very good, glad to see the standards are raised up so high these days, and this is the result.
Oh man the first thing I wanted to do was change that default notification and ring sound STRAIGHT AWAY! So cheesy and blaaaaah! I liked the 'Pick up your phone' choir though, had a good laugh from that one

May be Switching from Note 3 to Moto X Pure

So obviously it's about time for me to get a new phone, considering mine is never going to make it past 5.0 lollipop and various other reasons. I just want to know what to expect if I do end up getting the Moto X Pure. Will I be happy/satisfied with my purchase? Will there be a huge learning curve?

I would say go for it if you don't care about the Spen. The Note 3 is a great phone but I enjoy the Pure alot more. There is no bloat to speak of and you can unlock the bootloader and flash whatever you want. Camera wise the Pure is better. I especially like the Moto display where you can wave your hand in front of the lock screen to see your notifications and unlock it instead of pressing buttons. I would suggest to get at least a 32GB or more model. I currently have the 16GB one and find it too small so I have a 64GB on it's way. It makes things easier when flashing ROMs because you don't need to format the external SD to adaptive storage.

Im not sure why those reviews say that.
I constantly get 4 - 5hrs screen on time, occasionally it'll get 6hrs screen on time, that was on stock non rooted.
I've also recently rooted and flashed xposed with gravity box and still continue to get very acceptable battery life.
i have the US version of the Pure. Not sure if my phone just got a good battery.

I came from note 3 as well. On it since it came out. I've seen quite a spread on what people get. I'll low ball and say definitely 3 1/2, 4 1/2 with some management. Better build than 3 (expected). You'll have to get used to the color changes. Samsung saturates, so remember that. Someone posted getting 32 at least. I definitely agree with that statement. Don't bother with 16, even with the availability of SD card. Great radio. Unlocked for carriers. Price can't be beat. Only other option would be Nexus 6P.

I was running stock until a couple hours ago and decided to try AICP. So far it's running great.
Def agree with everyone to get 32gb or above. What took me by surprise is this phone has no LED notification.....unless your rooted and running a rom which supports it (most do). Also when you root you will be able to control doze much more efficiently and get much better standby battery. This has the brightest screen I have ever seen (have it on 5%-10% while indoors), great audio jack/speaker sound/reception/camera and battery charges ridiculously quick. It's safe to say you will love this phone.

@spookykidmm, don't listen to this clown. Xposed doesn't affect battery life. If you're running some janky modules, you could run in to issues, but that's not Xposed. Additionally, normal battery life is not pathetic. Battery life on the Galaxy S6 is pathetic. I usually average between 5-6 hrs SOT depending on usage (with or without Xposed). Typically the people on here that complain are in the minority... that's true for nearly every phone. And a lot of times, they screw things up on their own and blame the phone

Since battery depends on many variables like screen brightness, signal strength, apps installed, sync frequency, etc....your setup could be giving you horrible battery life, but explain to me how xposed makes battery that much worse....you must have many modules incorrectly configured.
My girlfriend upgraded from her Note 3 to the Moto X Pure when I upgraded at the same time from my LG G4 to this and we're both EXTREMELY satisfied. Dev support is on the rise so you'll have a few choices in ROMs. I'm currently rockin' TruPureXMM v2.5 with Franken Kernel using his Battery Profile settings, xPosed with GravityBox, Amplify & XGPM and can honestly say I couldn't be much happier with the experience overall.
We have the 64 GB models and neither of us use an sdCard since it's been more than enough for us. Google Photos keeps our photos stored and Google Play Music is our choice of service (Family Plan for $14.99 a month) which lets us stream our over 23,000 song collection and gives us access to any song on Google Play with no ads and since we have T-Mobile the music streaming isn't going against our high speed data, which is very nice. As other are saying, you will enjoy the dual-front speakers, the screen is great, and battery life is within reasonable acceptance. You can squeeze more out of it fairly easily with some tweaking and the quick-charge is INSANE. You can't beat the charger that comes with this phone.

Mi 9T Review - Your opinions?

Hello everyone, recently i picked up mi 9t. What a phone...
I can say that i am more than satisfied with how phone performs and what i got for 300 bucks. I decided to make a short video review and give my opinions about it. I am decent user which means that i am usually using my phone to browse around the web, instagram, watch youtube and some movies. I would be more than happy if you can give me your opinions and if you have any question do not hesitate to ask me. Also, i will make some ROOT/TWRP/ROM review videos so support is more than appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

I really think the Mi 9T is a great phone with the latest Urnyx Gcam without unlock the device. This phone takes beautiful night photos and using astrophotography setting compared to Miui's camera. It has been about 7 days that i own the Mi 9T. With certain reviews i have seen about how Miui's bloatware (and google) crippled the battery life can perform and by using this phone in real time. I think the phone can truly shine with custom rom or by using Miui EU Rom's. I have the 6GB version and this phone is running very smooth. Messenger can be hit or miss when answering, the front camera tends to not pop up at time. (So far 3-2 ratio of the camera popping up verus not) I jave not try gaming because i use my Mi Max 3 for that and also to keep the integrity of the Amoled display. As far as youtube goes, few videos take full potential of the whole display ratio and some not. When it does, the display is amazing.
That is my opinion about this phone. Tomm. i will be able to unlock and use the Xiami EU finally and can go further on what can this phone do.
For Xiomi.EU to work.. just format data and then enter "yes". If not force encryption will stay on and the phone will be rebooted back to TWRP Recovery. Also don't mount system when installing magisk.

Yeah, indeed.
I am also very curious how Roms are working and what can mods improve in terms of speed and battery. I cant say its not good but i think that this phone can do atleast a bit better in those terms. I applied for bootloader unlock 2 days ago, i will need to wait 5 more so i can unlock my phone and get my hands on rooting, installing twrp and so on. Ty for ur opinions.

Well i am going to use Xiaomi.EU first. I don't like the custom roms only because the gestures have lines appearing at the bottom and the bottom sides of the screen. Can only make the side arrow gestures dissappear only, on that note, i swtich to Xiaomi.EU for full finger gesture w/o them white lines appearing.
I would recommened Extended Ui Rom if you want to go in that direction.

Yes I would agree with your ROM choice from reading on XDA, but what about full screen gestures (I think it's called) in magisk modules? Doesn't that remove the lines at the bottom and make it MIUI like?

I have not tried any magisk modules except for YouTube Vanced Black. I found the module, i guess i can try it out once i switch to a custom Rom.
Yes, the full screen gesture works.
Can confirm i really prefer the device.
Owned couple of flagships like the oneplus 6, but i like the mi 9t a lot more. The full screen is amazing and everything just works and is fast enough... Even the battery outperforms every device i owned. The phone is a bit on the thicc side... But that isn't a bad thing.
For the price, you get more for the money.
I had one screen failure, that resulted in sending it back and received a new one after the same weekend. Suffered from "ghost touches" in the area where the statusbar sits... After a couple of days it resulted in screen failure considering the top area unusable. Now i got the new one running no problems, even the fingerprint is faster.
I have been rooting around, runned HavocOS 2.9. i really liked the rom but i preferred stock due to slightly less battery drain. The downside of rooting this device is that there is a lot of stuff scattered around xda and the rest of Internet with not the best description about for which version its made for (redmi or mi 9t) or what it modifies or does... Which resulted in flashing a stock rom that made my phone think it was a Redmi K20 instead of a Mi 9T... It did boot tho.
Now i don't do much anymore with toying and flashing around like i used to. i just use audio enhancements, certain themes and adblockers. I mainly use the phone for whatsapp, youtube, android auto and music.

After I saw notch of OnePlus 6 I understood
Thought it was tear drop notch but more like iPhone, but still.... Pretty impressed to hear that!
Looks like good customer service too, I haven't even unlocked it, it's fine for me and will personalise more when I unlock it like to icon, nothing too major cause like you I prefer stock. Better battery life is all it take for me, if the ROM is not a trash experience of course.
For me it was manageable to navigate through the threads and see what's up.
Oh and also about the description I believe it is meant to run on both, and Dev decides it to be named K20 or Mi 9T depending on their device... I'm pretty sure if you asked them to change to your device's model name they would be more than happy to help out.

The notch on the oneplus 6 was not even that bad, i liked that phone but battery life was not good enough, and i go to a lot of festivals so battery is important, and sound recording quality which also sucked.
The Mi 9T on the other hand succeeded in everything i want on a phone. Android auto works, music is good, wireless audio also, battery is very good, recording quality in both sound and video is good enough (seems cheaper devices can record more bass ).
I am not going to bother with the devs, staying stock with a few magisk mods which is enough
Btw for people trying to flash stuff on this phone, make sure to read on about encryption because it can screw you over when flashing goes wrong. And maybe use a USB OTG (or something similar) so when you soft brick your device you can still flash stuff in that way... If you're usb drive isn't encrypted
By the specs one might think that this is a great phone. Actually its the worst xiaomi phone i ever had (and i had a few). I am really disappointed by it, mainly because of the software. Many people have issues with battery drain. Mine is randomly crashing, no idea why. Sometimes it suddenly drains the battery completely within 1 hour, randomly, without any announcement. My girlfriend told me once that she tried to phone me but it woas not possible. I did not believe her first. I had no notifications about missed calls. A few weeks later i got a SMS from my mailbox service - 13 people failed to phone me.
It could be a great phone but you cannot rely on it. So it's basically useless.

I don't know if you are on stock software... But maybe try to reset or re-flash its stock firmware those problems can go away. I have no battery drain, no problems with calls either, maybe you got a faulty device like i did.
I have no problems with my device, besides returning it for screen failure once and it got replaced within a few days.

I agree, i actually miss my Note 5 Pro (6 GB version). The camera on the Mi9t has GREAT specs but it don't take too much better pics than the Note 5 (both without GCAM). Not to mention that most cameras are useless, only 2x zoom is not good enough and the other cameras are too much of a low resolution that make the pics even worse (so the cams are useless). The popup camera sound as a dream, but it isn't. It already gave problems to me (and many others) and the ONLY fix is to re flash the persist partition, where we lose DRM for Netflix. The popup also make the phone too heavy and thick for my taste. MIUI actually run smoother on the Note 5 than on the Mi9t, the community also is bigger still on the Note 5 so we have MUCH more ROMs and mods... This device has still buggy TWRP on backup and restore plus decryption error on TWRP. The amoled screen also has terrible color calibration. Oh and the fingerprint sensor is the WORSE i ever had
I'm not too happy with it. One thing i learned with the mi9t is to NEVER buy a smartphone with moving parts, either popup cameras or folding phone. It is asking for middle term problems.

That isn't a small problem, though.
Also about flashing, i see many people who brick the device for no reason
Well, had it for 2 months and sold it, and got a used Mi8 instead. I couldn't stand fingerprint scanner which is really not so good, and battery life was ok but not good enough for a 4000mAh capacity. Even with debloating, dark mode etc. there was always some drainage. Mi8 is a lot more optimized in my opinion.
Recently I dropped my Mi8 and broke the screen, and decided to skip Xiaomi for the time being due to Miui 11, which looks nice but it's animations are overkill, and they are really annoying.
Got Huawei Nova 5t instead (although I hate Huawei), but it's the one of very few devices that still has physical fps scanner, and can easily get up to 10 hrs of sot.

Good choice. Sadly, perfect device doesn't exist. I would prefer Samsung with snapdragon (in my opinion OneUI is the best skin right now), but they are too expensive. I've been checking out the new S10 Lite, seems good, probably fps sensor is cr*p as in all Sammy phones, but who knows...
The only two downsides I can think of is camera crashing in pro mode and screen which got scratched with a fingernail
What can I say about this device is that I have some mixed feelings about it... The phone it's amazingly fast, I can do anything in a few seconds, but I have a big drain on the battery... I tried every ROM possible, any battery tips, nothing seems to help me, I can barely get 4h SOT with mi band 4 constantly connected, wifi/mobile data always on, location on... Other people are getting 7-8h SOT and I can't get more than 4h SOT... I'm somehow disappointed at this chapter but I really enjoy the smoothness of this phone, the amazing photos taken by the gcam, and the support of the community. Overall it's a great phone but a great downside it's the battery life if you put the phone at work

Yeah, unfortunately yes, and they're not doing something about this... ?

Question How is everyone enjoying their nothing phone 1?

Give me all the details you guys!
I'm in North America and hoping that future releases will come to us and I think this will be our OnePlus reborn but I want to know what the actual users think.
Enjoying it so far.
Camera is decent, battery im getting about 8hrs SOT, the build is lovely but does feel like the iPhone.
The sound is decent, could be better... same with the Nothing OS, its decent but lacking a lot compared to other OEMs skins but its only the first version of it.
The lights are a head turner. One person loved what it does and now wants one and the other one wanted to know what light case I had on my iphone lol
All in all its a very good first go at making a phone, updates will come and had a big one last night which added and fixed a few issues that I had. Its very much worth the money.

Can you please tell me how many steps the volume rocker has when playing music and if it has a oleophobic coating? Some reports say it doesn't....
I'm enjoying the device from about 12 hours. Very well made phone. Sw is the first version (1.0.2) but it works fine and I really love stock experience. Just one note: mine become hot on heavy usage (gaming). Normal usage very very smooth and responsive. Camera not yet tested in deep but first impression is good. For now I'm satisfied.

I have a constant full signal. Not many apps installed, (no social media rubbish) dark mode, 120hz, location off, WiFi scanning off.
Got over 7 yesterday.

No problem, think theres a bug with location being on which drains the battery more.

Took the screen protector off and yes it does have the coating, least the UK version does.
I really like mine, feels quality and I like the look, not really tested the camera extensively yet.
I have seen some minor lag at times that I am going to keep my eye on, I am using Nova launcher thoiugh which could be it. The stock launcher is just a little too basic for me.
