Headphones not detected [SOFTWARE] - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Dear community
I have a Zenfone3 and after update to stock Android 8 (via OTA) the 3.5mm headphone jack is no longer recognized by the phone. I thought it needed a reset, so I made a factory reset and the result is the same. Then I thought it was a hardware issue but is not. I downloaded an app called Sound About but it didn't work, then I downloaded Audio Router and it worked! There is sound in the headphones!!! :highfive:
The downside is that I don't really know how to configure it so I have to manually switch between audio jack and "speaker" so i can take calls without the headphones (some times i dont have the hands free headphone).
I have to say that in any case the Bluetooth works fine not problem at all. But my question remains: what could be wrong in that Oreo update that I need an external app to have headphones working???
I hope someone has found a real fix for this or maybe until next stock update? Thanks and have a nice day!

Exactly the same situation for my Zenfone. Headphone plugging and unplugging is not detected. I started using an app called Audio Output Switch which has a homescreen widget for switching between headphones and speaker.
I feel like it's a hardware problem as it's been the same across different roms and android versions.

In Samsung I used SoundAbout and the problem seemed temporary. However, Asus headphone port seems to be quite easily exposed to dust, so I cleaned up inside of headphone jack with cottonbud with a bit of alcohol (be careful it might get caught inside). Wipe cache partition might also help.

I agree with the first reply, you should bring this up with Asus in their ZenTalk forums. They could solve your problem in their next update if it came to their attention, I like to think it helped in my case.
I had a similar problem with my ZE520KL back on Nougat, the 3.5mm jack would work on every other use - it would detect headphones one moment and then it won't in the next. Though it was all fixed with the Oreo update, kinda the opposite of your situation.
The mods at ZenTalk do usually respond and commit solutions to people, so good luck to you.

I will try that app in the mean time. As they said, it is a good idea to bring this issue to the Asus forums. Hoping they take this seriously because this phone is a great one!

I can confirm that Audio Router fixed the problem for me too.

Same here! Had to install Lesser Audio Switch to be able to use my headset again.
Hope Asus fix this soon.

Actually, I think I found out what is happening.
Go to Settings -> Sounds -> AudioWizard
First time you open that, it will ask for PERMISSION! After it was given, my phone resumed to recognize the headsets when connected.
Best regards!

faulty Speaker

Hi everyone
My o2 mini speaker dead last week , does not work at all , I installed the image but no diffrence , any suggestion ????
I also had a problem with the speaker. It occured after using the headset. The problem could be solved with plugging the headset again and detaching it with a quick movement (the phone was working cerrectly with the headset plugged). Don't know what is the reason, but sometimes after long use of the headset the problem turns up after unplugging the set. Try this, maybe it helps you too.
hi
i read about it somewhere in the forum.
its just because of a switch inside.
no need to worry about a major problem.
just like what Szilu said, plug it in and out firmly.
hope this helped!
regards
chester
-edit-
oh and its not due to long usage
i suffered this situation too...but O2 Centre can fix it within 1 day...real quick!
it's just because of the very FRAGILE audio jack that is installed in ur MINI. When u unplugged ur headset, the phone "doesn't know u unplugged the jack" so it assumes that it is still plugged in...so no sound will be channeled to the speakers...
try on...put in ur headset again, u will hear everything thru headset but not the speakers.
what u can do is VISIT O2 Customer Centre...small case...dun worry!
Same problem with me too
hi. i'm having the same problem - and - i don't have any JAM service centre near my place....or in the entire state....so i was planning to open it up and see if i can fix it from the inside...

hello..i also can't hear phone calls from main speaker,i've to activate every time hands free speaker.but 1 month ago it worked for 1 day.i can't understand,it seems software problem;and i normally use bluetooth headset, not wired...can somebody help me???..bye
Thanks for saving me a few hundred dollars, hassle, downtime
Wow, what a resource this has been! I came here months ago when I wanted to upgrade my system. Now it just saved me who knows how much in service costs. My speaker stopped working as well and I was sure my device was completely messed up until I checked this forum.
I tried what you suggested and it worked perfectly! I had to plug the headset out twice, I guess the first time I didn't do it fast enough. You really have to give a quick tug.
Thanks for the valuable advice!
P.S. Now I have lost my excuse to upgrade to the imate K-Jam. Oh well, all in good time.
Put my money where my comment is
I've made a donation to the forum to thank you for this helpful advice.
Ok, so I didn't donate as much as I would have paid a technician but...hey, it's something

[Q] Microphone not working? (no sound)

Hi, I just stumbled upon an HD2 on Sunday. Very nice phone!
Unfortunately, it seems the microphone isn't working. I have no sound on video recordings and people can't hear me on phone calls unless I use a headset.
I checked it with a phone call when the phone was on stock WinMo and the issue is the same now after I've hacked it and put Typhoon_CM7 on it (nand).
Is there anything I can try to test if this is hardware related? Is it hard to replace the mic if that is necessary?
I searched the forums as well as google but didn't find anything that helped. I'd really like the phone to be fully functional so any help or suggestions are welcome.
TIA
You can assume with confidence that the issue is hardware related if the same thing happens regardless of what you flash or install on to it.
It probably is
If u are not getting sound on the stock windows mobile 6.5 and not even on the android, it is sure that the problem is hardware related. You should go to a HTC center to get it fixed.
Hope it helps.
Give me a thanks if you found this post useful
Thanks for your replies. Any idea how hard it is to replace the mic?

Sound on my galaxy note 2 is muted

I just bought the device yesterday new, and from the first use i had a weird issue, the sound is muted, all sounds , music play, calls with speakers on and screen sound, sometimes it works and sometimes not, when i plug the headset i can hear everything
Any solution ? i won't wast my time to go the warranty, is it software or hardware issue ? i did factory reset and still the issue come back
Seems much like software issue, have you downloaded and installed latest N7100 firmware? With odin you can do it "officially" without losing warranty.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I will do it hopefully it solve the problem
i did it and told me PASS, but after booting up the device i found the same background and all my settings still there like nothing happened , and now the the all mobile sounds are gone forever even with restart not working
Please guy i need a solution !!!
Still no one to help ?!!! where's the experts ... can anyone at least tell me for sure is it software or hardware issue ? and the warranty can detect that issue ? cause sometimes the sound working fine for hours

Wow, this stinks. If it were my brand-spanking new phone, I'd return it. It almost sounds like a solder issue. My Note 2 has a very loud speaker with excellent quality (nice bass) while listening to podcasts. When on a call using the earpiece, it's actually too loud. I haven't figured out how to turn it down yet, not a critical issue.
Do you get sound at the Samsung logo when you restart the phone? If not, it's a hardware fault and exchange it.

The weird thing , sometimes the sound of Samsung logo working at the start up and sometimes not ... when i just got the device and start to unbox it and turn it on .. it didn't make a logo sound .. but later sometimes it does !!!
i gave it to Samsung today and they told me it will take 5 days .. they will make new software format and then check the hardware . i hope they detect the problem cause sometimes it works fine for hour and the sound disable just happen for minutes !!
Any Ideas ?
Thanks for reply
Also, go into the dialer, type in *#0*# and go to the Speaker to see if it works.
I went to the warranty and they told me it will take 5 days for troubleshooting, they said first we are going to install new software then you will have 48 hours for testing, if the problem persist they will change it for me , i don't know if they can discover it, Also here's some link for some users have the same issue :

Thanks
I received it from Samsung Maintenance and they implemented new software installation and told me the problem solved, anyway i took it and just going to my car the issue happened again, i back to them they told me they will troubleshoot it again !!! to be sure that the problem persist !!! WTF
Any ideas will be appreciated

try pressing on the main speaker, the point of contacts of most phone speakers are just behind or sides of the actual speakers just to rule out loose contact. also try to master reset if it doesn't work try reinstalling the rom to rule out software problem. Otherwise, I would return it for a replacement. Good luck.
Edit:
If pressing on the speaker temporarily solves the problem, I would still ask for replacement.

Anyway , so you saying it's mostly a hardware issue , right ?

[Q] Speaker no longer working on 5 hour old Nexus 4.

Hi guys,
I just want to ask about this problem in case anyone has a fix for it.
The speaker on my N4 no longer works, but the sound works through the headphone jack. All volumes are fine and I've done a factory reset.
Anybody have any ideas what's going on?

What apps do you have installed? Vonage used to mess with sound, had to reboot phone to get it to work again.
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but did they send you a good device? Mine is 10 hours and now stopped.
Did you guys try a factory reset?
Sent from my shiny new(bought last Nov), scratch less Nexus 4!
I have the same problem too, speaker stopped working but headset is working fine, mine is 2 weeks old and I can't RMA it as I'm out of the states! Any help would be appreciated and I tried a factory reset to no avail!

Please Help- No audio on Moto G4 Plus (Completely zero sound)

Hey Guys,
Now my Moto G4 Plus is facing a weird issue. No Sound from speaker and headphone. The microphone is also not working.:crying:
But the bluetooth headset is working Fine.In the first time of occurrence, a restart solves the issue. But after some restarts, the method of restarting is not working for gaining or achieving sound. Now my phone have zero sound. But some times the phone's speaker, headphone and microphone(everything works fine).
I thought it was a software issue. Therefore, i tried all ROMS including Stock(Marshmallow & Nougat) and Custom ROMS. Unfortunately the flashing didn't fixed the issue.
You guys may think that it's a hardware issue. But if it's a hardware issue, then how the phone was completely operational without any single bugs at sometimes(Perfectly fine at those times).
What's not working now:
*External speaker
*Headphone jack
*Microphone
Please Help Guys

The problem is after the June Security Patch update which have upgraded the Bootloader (bootloader once upgraded can't be downgraded). Therefore I can't relock the bootloader(still there is no firmware from Motorola built with June security patch).I have warranty. But if the problem is with the motherboard, it'll take 60% of the phone's entire price to replace it
Just to confirm, you've performed a factory reset, cache wipe and without any apps (besides the stock apps), and you still get the speaker/microphone issue?
Is the headphone jack clean as well?

I did the same on a friend's XT1644 and still no sound.
I think the problem is worse. Sometimes the phone boots with the Hello Moto bootanimation, with sound. Other times, the same bootanimation without sound. Most of the times, the phone boots with a static blue motorola logo.
Sometimes audio work on headphones. Most of the time doesn't.
I've flashed the stock ROM with june security patch and I can't downgrade because the bootloader is new.
Any tips?
I had the same problem in my moto G4
My problem was a hardware problem, earphones plug did not have contact because I polished my camera glass with toothpaste and all inside was a toothpaste mess, I cleaned all contacts and magic! It works! Maybe you have a hardware problem, issue in the plug or speaker
I'm having the same problem, phone boots with a static blue motorola logo, no sound, no mic. I just got the phone though and it worked for about 2-3 weeks. I would have thought if it was a security patch in June I would have gotten it sooner and had problems right away.

I have what appears to be the same problem. I have an XT1625 running Android 7.0, security patch level 1 April 2018, build number NPJS25.93-14.7-8. The phone is bone stock. Bootloader has always been locked.
My problems began when the phone began to reboot on its own two or three times a week, then I noticed I had no audio from time to time, and a reboot restored the audio. Then I ended up with no audio at all, where I am now.
I have booted into safe mode with no improvements, then performed a factory reset. The phone boots most of the time now with a static blue motorola logo, and I notice that the screen dims about halfway through the boot process. When the phone finishes booting, I get the following notification: "Configuring your mobile network retry x of 5" after it retries 5 times, that notification goes away.
No application requiring sound works. I can send a text via Hangouts, but when I try a voice call using hangouts, nothing happens.
I'm thinking the phone is now a toy for my granddaughter, but I thought I'd check in here in case anyone has any related information.
Thanks for any help.
