Upgrade stock 34.3.A.0.252 to Oreo or downgrade it to root - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I just received my xperia X compact and i would like to root it, I saw one thread explaining how to root it from Oreo (https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/stock-8-0-root-recovery-t3747479) but unfortunately my phone CDA is 1305-2001 (Generic LAM) and the Oreo upgrade is not available i'm stuck in 34.3.A.0.252 (checked on XperiFirm and software upgrade)
What's the best way to root my phone ?
I was wondering if i can directly flash the Oreo firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/android-8-0-0-oreo-released-xperia-x-t3745129) then root it ? Would it work ? (I don't have TA backup)
Or maybe use this guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/guide-root-custom-kernel-clean-rom-ta-x-t3583183) to downgrade my phone (again shall i just flash an old firmware from stock ?) and made a TA backup ?
Thanks a lot !

you can pretty much take your pick. If it was me, I would flash an ftf from Flashtool of latest version, (even if not the region you want), then root with rootkernel method. Having a different region fw shouldn't affect anything.

Upgrading from B170 to B313/Downgrading back to earlier version

Hi guys,
New to the forum here. I've flashed B170 a while back to get the most stable Lollipop edition, but I'd really like to try Marshmallow. The thing is, I can't figure out how to downgrade it back to B100/B121/B130 or to Upgrade it to B313. Is it possible to do either of those two things without an unlocked bootloader? There doesn't seem to be a way of flashing any packages on the phone, so I've sort of resigned myself to having to flash it via adb, but is this possible when I don't have an unlock code for the bootloader? Thanks for any help; I've really read through all the threads, but I couldn't come up with an answer.
Hi !
In order to upgrade to MM, you will have to downgrade to an upgradable version like B140. All the things you need are in the MM Upgrade topic of this forum.
In order to rollback from MM fo Lollipop, everything is explained in the same topic but you'll have to download a temporary system (B300) and then you'll be able to downgrade. Anyway, everything is in the MM Update topic.
I don't think you have to unlock bootloader to do all that but it would be easier because you would be able to use Honor 7 Multitool which is a software that does everything for you in no time
Good luck (MM version of the Honor 7 is awesome !)

Thanks for the reply! However, you can't use the B300 rollback on B170 (which is a Lollipop rom), can you? I've read the Marshmallow topic, and I was none the wiser - I can't seem to figure out if there's any way to get back to an upgradable version without flashing with the Honor tool (which requires an unlocked bootloader, non?). Sorry for the n00b-factor!

so many treads around here described the solution to do! Please use the search engine too
read following from there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64673136&postcount=74
and...
try to flash the B313 Rollback file first!
Maybe it will stop with "not successful!" nearly ~93% but THIS DOESN’T MATTER! a reboot should bring you to interim B300. Then you should be able to flash the B121 Full update out of your dload folder from your internal SD. If this work, you should be able to update to B313. You do not lost your personal data, but make a backup to be sure!

CO2 - vodafone branding
C432- generic (non-branded)
after some reading on XDA it's seams that 432 will become 900, I have first to "unbranded", change from 02 (vodafone) to unbranded 432
I found a tutorial on XDA but only in spanish, does it exist in english ?
thanks

Hello and thanx will it also work for the VNS-L31C02B123 verion .. I have been looking everywhere .. My phone is rooted and unlocked .. Thank you
Hello,
I know this thread is a little old but I have some follow up questions since I'll trying to achieve the same (also have L31C002B125 and would like to upgrade without bricking, if possible).
Where is that Spanish guide you found to unbrand your phone (Spanish is fine by me) from 02 to 432?
I've found several treads that talk about jumping to 161 but with a procedure that doesn't inspire much confidence for me. Something requiring preparing a dload folder with B161, flashing oeminfo/custom.bin for my location (that still is C02 and cannot find any file with that) then realizing the firmware is corrupted (what??) and letting it repair using the dload files via 3keys/dialer code (wich one?)... etc etc. as you see not very noob friendly.
At this moment I have already unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP recovery... Can't I do the usual flash with latest rom as with other phones? To afraid to try. Please help.
First, you need change oeminfo. Flash oemiffo from c432 and other step -flash firmware c432b160 ( dual sim) 161 ( single sim).
Very easy make this is via twrp. Flash zip with vendor and firmware.

Is it worth upgrading to Nougat from MM ?

Hello,
I have L21C02B122, branded by Vodafone. I didn't get Nougat so I was thinking of changing to C432. Is Nougat worth it ? How buggy is it ?
How easy is it to change to C432 ? Can you point out a thread...
Thanks

Its still in development, in my opinion it is more valuable to save the varranty. Nougat is faster but wait for official OTA since with third-party ROM providers you dont know if youre going to be able to install new upgrades.
Nougat is so fast!! Interface and browser I love IT!

I came from Vodafone too.
Used this toolkit to debrand:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...pe-vns-l31-toolkit-bootloader-t3432873/page67
Later upgraded to Nougat via OTA and everything is working fine. I do not use any root or TWRP modifications.
it is worth it. i don't know if the official ota for c432 is out yet, but if it's not, you could install b370 from one of the guides here. i don't know if that's beta or not. if you want to receive ota updates you could always flash back to stock mm and then install the official ota to nougat

You'll find all needed information in the first part of this tutorial (just skip the rooting part):

Remember to flash your last used stock firmware or a newer one, available latest firmwares for reteu/retus are 93-4 (january security patch) and 92-8 for retin (march security patch). There's also a tutorial to relock your bootloader if you wish to:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5...der-moto-g5-plus-indian-t3638835/post73082304
It has to be said that a lot of users coming from 64bit custom ROMs are losing their voLTE, 4G or even IMEI when returning to stock.
If you have a nandroid backup of your stock ROM (you better have one) restore it, that would be the safest way. Or at least restore the EFS partition.
If you don't have a nandroid make one of EFS from your custom ROM and restore it if you run into one of the mentioned problems after flashing your stock firmware.

Edit.
Correction: Indian firmware is named 92-8 for march security patch not 93-8 which is for europe and US.

Do you know if i can relock bootloader. I unlocked it while i was on 93-8 reteu, that firmware is not available anywhere, i have full nandroid backup of it but when i restore stock firmware i still can't unlock bootloader? Is my only way to wait for 93-8 firmware to come up?

Yes. Without the firmware you are going to flash (or restore) there's no way to relock the BL.
You could try to use the indian variant which is uploaded (92-8) but that may cause trouble, the inability to receive and install future OTA or other software related issues.
The best way should be waiting for the 93-8 firmware.

[Firmware] Which firmware should i use to update to emui 5.xx with VNS-L31 C432 B226?

My phone had to be repaired last week, and the Huawei repair service changed everything in the phone except for the backplate.
However, I am now stuck with emui 4.1.2 in firmware VNS-L31 C432 B226, and i can't find a replacement firmware for the system.
The phone shows no update available in stock.
I have TWRP and magisk installed atm, just so i could try and get a different firmware with emui 5.1 or 5.0 at least, which I did to no avail.
Is there any way to find the correct firmware compatible with this phone?
Googling this firmware gives me no clues as to the correct path to updating this phone.
Should i use an adb/fastboot command prompt to update it, or use the dload method, or even the extract the SYSTEM.img from UPDATE.app method?
I just don't want to revert to an "earlier" version of the firmware with the dload method just to have my phone bricked.
These are the firmware i tried already:
[TO BE UPDATED]
TL/DR:
I have a Huawei P9 Lite repaired to a stock:
Firmware: VNS-L31 C432 B226
EMUI: 4.1.2
in Portugal.
I want to know a compatible firmware or series of firmware patches so i can get
Firmware: VNS-L31 C432 Bxxx
EMUI: 5.xx
Thank you for your time.
Hello,
it's strange that with an unbranded european firmware your phone didn't upgraded to android 7....
Anyhow i never done a forced upgrade but if i were you i wil try with HWOTA update, like explained in this thread.
So first make all your necessary backups, then unroot and finally follow the guide to upgrade.
P.S.: If your phone is dual sim try install B370, if single sim try with B371.
All the best

I tried a bunch of firmwares for emui 5.1 that didn't work, or which had NFC and bluetooth not working. I ended up downgrading to B160, and am now reupgrading to B370 after checking that both of the previously mentioned are working properly. I will update on this issue asap.
Also, it seems like the firmware I originally had was updated in march 2018, so it was really an updated official firmware with emui 4.1. What a weird setup. Could it be to make sure the NFC and bluetooth would be working? I just don't know...

I did it and it worked, however i flashed the recovery partition of version VNS-L31C432B380 with TWRP and now can't do a OTA update to B388.
Should I extract the recovery img from a b380 FULLOTA update and flash it to my recovery partition with fastboot?

Hey,
surely without stock recovery OTA updates won't work,
so yes try flash it with fastboot, then update to the latest/wanted firmware and finally unlock bootloader,
flash custom recovery and root (even if wanted).
Best regards
